Yeah, there are some overlays that Guild Wars 2 loathes when booting for some reason. I can see mumble’s overlay causing this problem which is why Guild Wars 2 crashes on launch when mumble is open, whereas Guild Wars 2 is fine with mumble after the game is already launched. There are some other overlays I have heard that Guild Wars 2 hates, like the OSD for afterburner where it shows the FPS in the corner. Although I had it working on my machine, I heard others had problems with it. It just seems to be more luck of the draw than anything. Not that there isn’t more than enough of that already in game cough black lion chest (thanks NCSoft) cough

All PCIe 3.0 cards should be backwards compatible with 2.0 slots, so I don’t see that being an issue. Your power supply is fine if it runs the GTX 285 since that consumes like double the power than the 7750.
I don’t know the details of how gift giving works in your place of residence, but I too had a problem where I would get parts that were more or less meaningless besides the emotional value attached to it because it was a gift. I don’t want to sound aggressive or anything and I don’t know your feelings about this present, but the way I went around getting computer gifts that people knew little about was just giving them a link to what I wanted. If it was cheap enough they could get the part and everyone would be hunky dory, or, more likely than not it was an expensive part, so I just had them chip in towards it and I would throw the rest down. Just a thought!
Just out of curiosity, what did you upgrade from? Was it an AMD card? I know you mentioned that you completely got rid of the old drivers, but what tool did you use to ensure that the old drivers were completely gone?
Next up is temperatures, make sure that the new GPU isn’t overheating and make sure that the new GPU isn’t causing your CPU to overheat. If you don’t already have software that monitors the CPU and GPU temperatures then I would recommend using HWMonitor to check your temperatures. You can find HWMonitor here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
Lastly, what power supply do you have? Perhaps your power supply just can’t generate enough juice to feed all of your computer with your new graphics card. This is another reason why I wanted to know your old graphics card so I can accurately depict how much more power your new card uses (if any since newer cards typically have had power go down).

@Ismail Ali
From the sounds of it you are experiencing what Chan is describing. As for why this happens I’m not sure since I’m an Nvidia user and not an AMD user so I don’t have much knowledge with the Catalyst Control Center (CCC). There might be options in the CCC that you should check out that might put the card into some energy saving mode. I would disregard the warning that Chan said about setting the card to max. As long as it didn’t come close to overheating while playing GW2 before the screen flickers and the clock speeds go down, you won’t have any temperature problems. Typically GPUs can get very hot and can operate at hot temperatures. I don’t worry about mine until it reaches the upper 80’sC At that point I make a point to investigate what the problem is and drop my overclock down to make sure I don’t damage my card.
Something I live by when it comes to temperatures with computers, if it doesn’t boil water, you’re still in the green. However, I live on the safe side right now, hence the upper 80’s comment, because my budget doesn’t include a new graphics card.

Two things, are you sure nothing is overheating because of the new card? I would check your CPU and GPU temperatures to make sure everything isn’t closing in on 90C. If you don’t already have software that can monitor these temperatures, I would recommend using HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
The second thing is that you have downgraded, the GTX 285 is a better card than the 7750 unless you’re trying to save on power.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
So you have checked your temperatures for your GPU…what is it when playing Guild Wars 2?
I should have specified that you should be running the game for at least 5 minutes to let the temperatures rise to their normal game play levels. Those temperatures are awfully low under load. Or better yet, check them when the screen flickers and when you get the terrible FPS.
If I were you two, I would run a check disk on the hard drive that GW2 is stored on. Then, if that passes, I would run memtest on your RAM to make sure your RAM is functional.
You can get to checking the disk by going to ‘My Computer’ then right clicking the hard drive and clicking ‘Properties’ and then going to the ‘Tools’ tab and click ‘Check now…’.
You can find memtest at:

Maybe its not a stable overclock for GW2 anymore.
Check your temperatures of your CPU and GPU. They might be overheating and causing these problems you are encountering. If you don’t have software that already monitors these temperatures. I would recommend using HWMonitor which can be found here:

If I were you I would get a nice AM3+ board and a FX 8350 (AMD) or wait a few weeks and grab an socket 1150 board with a i5 4670K or i7 4770K (Intel). Then, overclock the processors to 4.5Ghz and you’ll be loving the game with a GTX 680 and a very solid processor. The AMD solution is probably cheaper, but the performance of the Intel processors are better for GW2. However, the only difference will be around 5 frames per second.

So it looks like you’re using the embedded graphics on your processor which is the bare minimum to play the game. Your processor is pretty nice though.
Native settings with full shaders…are you trying to say you want to play at max settings? What resolution do you play games at/what is the resolution of your monitor(s)? What FPS do you want to achieve while playing the game at your desired resolution and graphics settings? Do you have a budget?
You might also want to pick up another stick of DDR3 RAM since you only have 4GB of RAM and I wouldn’t recommend a machine of that caliber with less than 8GB. What is the current speed of your RAM? You’ll want to match the speed of the RAM along with its timings (ie: 9-9-9-24) so that you won’t have too many hiccups when adding the RAM to your system.

Looks like the game is having a hard time reading the hard drive. If I were you, I would run a check disk on the hard drive to make sure there is no bad sectors or anything that might lead us to this type of error. Basically right click the hard drive in ‘My Computer’ click ‘Properties’, then go to the ‘Tools’ tab then hit ‘Check now…’ and let the utility program do its thing.
When the fire elemental spawns, my frame rate goes from smooth to something absolutely atrocious while it materialises (though it’s fine once it’s all there), and whispers agents dropping their smoke bombs causes my frame rate to drop quite sharply as well.
Is this a problem on my side or is it the game itself? Apart from this my game works fine, it’s just those two gfx seem to be really computer intensive.
I have the same issue as you describe, runs fine, starts lagging pretty bad as fire elemental manifests, then runs fine again after he’s fully spawned.
Intel I7 2600k 3.4 ghz
Evga GTX 560 TI
8gb DDR3 ramLatest drivers, double checked as writing this. All windows updates done and I’ve previously tried file checking gw2 just incase maybe a graphic file was corrupt. I’m not the only one who has this issue, my roommate experiences this too.
In this case where the CPU and GPU are meant for gaming, this is a game engine issue, a lot of people have this problem, including myself.
The reason I ask is that sometimes I find someone that has a computer that they expect to work wonders when it was never designed to.
Does your system meet the minimum requirements to play the game?
I would make sure that your hardware isn’t overheating and that your graphics drivers are up to date. If you don’t already have monitoring software to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures, then I recommend using HWMonitor which can be found here:

Yeah, there are programs that when launching the game cause it to crash immediately. I recommend running the game by itself without anything else running. I would also recommend grabbing the latest graphics drivers for your system.
Clean out your laptop from dust and reapply thermal paste if the overheating issue is really bad.
Perhaps its just that instance of Hoelbrak that is giving you issues. Try guesting to another server and hop on your character and see what happens.
I would check to make sure you are not running into overheating issues. If you don’t already have software that monitors these temperatures, I would recommend using HWMonitor which can be found here:

More than likely its the game engine causing issues. Just to be sure though, what GPU and CPU are you running?
Perhaps this belongs in the suggestions thread. A solution would be to purchase a second monitor and dual-screen. Or grab a laptop and watch the channel chat from the laptop.

There is no setting for this. This is out of user control due to limitations of the game’s current engine.
I’m assuming this defrag was done using the built in windows defragger. I would suggest trying mydefrag, in my opinion its a much better defragger than the built in one that Windows uses. Mydefrag can be found here:
http://www.mydefrag.com/Manual-DownloadAndInstall.html
Make sure your laptop isn’t overheating, check your CPU and GPU temperatures. If you don’t already have software that can do this, I recommend using:

I recommend making a thread on the Mac sub-forum for a better answer. Perhaps the re-installation was a new version of Kaspersky that is no longer compatible with Guild Wars 2. Or perhaps the re-installation requires you to add Guild Wars 2 to the white listed applications.
Are you sure that since you installed the TITAN, that the GPU and CPU temperatures haven’t changed at all?
Yeah, it should exist in your Windows.old folder when you reinstall the 64bit version of Windows 7.
So I’m assuming you fixed your issue or do I need to go into a little more detail?

I can see them adding all sorts of neat options that are available in modern day games, but until they get a modern day EFFICIENT game engine, I don’t see this happening. Give it a few more years when DX12 comes out and they might update to DX11 because the current generation consoles will support it and Windows XP will finally be dead, totally and utterly dead.
I doubt you’ll get any noticeable performance from using 64bit, but I would recommend it anyways.
It depends what you want to keep concerning your data question. When installing over another operating system, the old Windows install will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. This should hold all your user data, but data that is just out and about on your hard drive will disappear. Guild Wars 2 and other programs in your Program Files folder should be preserved, but you’ll have to move Guild Wars 2 into your new Program Files directory and create a new shortcut. As for the other programs you have installed, you will probably have to reinstall them on the new operating system.
There are likely more in depth and better explanations out there on the interwebs if you Google around for them.
Are you plugging in the VGA cable to your discrete graphics card or the port on the back of your motherboard?
You obviously don’t love him that much :p
The game will run on these laptops, but you’ll rather watch paint dry than play Guild Wars 2 on these machines. They may meet the minimum requirements, but the minimum requirements are only there to tell you that the game will launch, not that the game will be playable in any sense of the word.
Have you checked the temperatures of the CPU and GPU to make sure that they are not causing any heat related issues? If you don’t already have software that monitors these things, HWMonitor work well. You can download them here:

Personally, I would recommend running check disk on your hard drive from the hard drive’s Windows Properties page.
I would also recommend testing your RAM using memtest. You can find memtest here:
http://www.memtest.org/
I recommend using the USB key installer found about half way down the page. Memtest sometimes picks up bad sectors of RAM that games might not. Much like overclocking, overclockers use memtest to test the stability/validity of their RAM even though they might not encounter errors during normal computer use, or in your case, when running other games.
Any luck Faun?
I too have been hit by a sudden and unexpected lagfest. I can run around Wvw maps like Tom Cruise in Times Square in Vanilla Sky and BOOM! I am suddenly a splat on the floor.
I tried this: (WARNING! I am techno useless and have no idea if it is detrimental to your hardware, and is advisable. Do it at your own risk. In fact, I would prefer it if someone more PC savvy gave it the nod before you tried it.)
Once GW2 is running, control-alt-del to the task manager. Find the GW2 process. Right click it. Set priority to high.It improved performance no end for me. Your mileage may vary.
Good luck.
This will have no detrimental effect on anything, I’ve been doing this since last year and it won’t cause the computer any harm.

I believe there are a ton of other threads out discussing this problem already. You might want to check in those threads for solutions.
I think I unraveled that English correctly and I suggest you should make sure your drivers are up to date. The drivers should be able to be found here:
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/beta-legacy
The next thing after that to check is temperature problems. Make sure your CPU and GPU are not overheating. If you don’t already have software that monitors these things you can download HWMonitor to assist you with finding what you need. They can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
Specs please, it’s always easier for us to help you when you give us what type of parts we are dealing with. Another helpful tidbit is what operating system you are running.
Things you can check are making sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
Another thing to check is making sure your CPU and GPU are not overheating. If you don’t already have software that monitors this I would recommend using:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
Also, if you are overclocking anything, I recommend tossing the overclock back to stock and try playing Guild Wars 2 again.

Did you perhaps do a clean install of the driver when it started working?
Haha, I would be surprised if the people who paid for monthly data usage on the internet was over 5%.
Normally I see people run into this problem when updating the game and something bad happens, not when they’re already in the game. Anyways, like I have said before I’ll say again:
Make sure to have a back up of the gw2.dat file somewhere else. Whether this is on the same hard drive and a different directory or on another hard drive entirely makes little difference. When something like this happens, all you have to do is toss the backup gw2.dat file in the same directory as the other, thus overwriting the bad data. Then, instead of downloading the entire game all over again, all you have to do is patch up from where ever that back up left off.
Ok, according to GPU-Z one is running at x1 and the other is at x8 instead of being x16…any idea how to fix this? We may be onto something! fingers crossed
I have no experience with SLI in laptops, but I’m pretty sure the PCI link speeds (x1, x8, x16) should still be the same between desktops and laptops. I would expect them both running in x8 at least.
As stated above, the fix for a desktop would be to move the cards around on the motherboard. However, this obviously won’t work in a laptop, so I’m not entirely sure how to go about fixing this. You did take those link speed readings when you were trying to play Guild Wars 2, right?
If not, go back and take the readings while playing the game and actually putting the system under stress. If the link speeds don’t change, I would suspect there is a problem. Like I said though, since I have no experience with SLI in laptops, these link speeds might be normal even though they look really abnormal.

What card did you have before your boost? Perhaps there is a driver issue conflict between AMD and Nvidia if you had an AMD card before.
Hy.
Im playing on
Acer aspire 5250(mac)
AMD Dual-Core Processor E300
AMD Radeon HD 66310
4 GB DDR3 Memory
Cant play, have permanent 8-9 FPS,anny tips would be a gift from heaven![]()
P.S. Im a total noob when it comes to computers, mac and instaling things… sigh
Congrats on getting the game to run on a computer it shouldn’t be running on. I believe the minimum specification was a dual core running at 2Ghz. Your CPU is a dual core but it clocks in at 1.3Ghz. Also, the embedded graphics lies just above the minimum graphics requirement.
A tip I would give is if you actually want to play games, get a real computer.
This isn’t very accurate, I would expect you to get higher FPS at higher settings. What resolution are you running at?
You might need to get the latest drivers to increase performance. Drivers for your card can be found here:

@Creest
The ‘backup’ plan is basically what you described. Once the gw2.dat file is in a fully working order, simply copy it to another directory. This takes up another 15GB or so, but it is worth it if you have a slower internet connection. Then, when something happens to the gw2.dat file and needs to be redownloaded, you can simply copy the version that you saved in another directory into the original directory again.
@Savaunte & Creest
You can try the repair switch. To add it simply follow the instructions here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments#-repair
There are a ton of other switches as well, some of them you might find useful.

I don’t think anyone can do it for you unless they VPN into your network/onto your computer. What YOU can do though is try deleting the local.dat file. This is typically located in your ‘my documents’ directory inside the Guild Wars 2 folder.

Well, In all my time playing games. I’ve never had a problem with my system.
Guild wars 2 however, I’ve had multiple problems, Beginning and relating to extreme abusive lag to my machine. I know the game, has optimization problems and I would like to ask when these will be fixed, I’m thinking of taking a break from the game as well as most of my many over friends will be simply because, this game is not good for our hardware, and is not optimized to work with all computers.Multiple friends of mine, have had this problem so I know I’m not just being singled out here, the lag on the game is Unbearable sometimes, but it never dips below 10 FPS. It usually just hangs around there in big battle scenes such as “The Shatterer”, or “Tequatle the Sunless” or multiple events in World vs World, also the scene from The mists, where you’re a charr back in the old war for ascalon.
You’ve lost multiple player base because of this issue, such as TotalBiscuit announcing it on his review.
I ask of you, to please consider optimizing the game in a future patch soon, many of your old loyal players will return because of this.
Sincerly, Monti Ráypé
Not to be blunt, but you have three options;
1) Overclock
2) Buy better/newer hardware
3) The issues have been present for 7+ months, the issue isn’t getting resolved in 19 days. Continue waiting for Guild Wars 3/move on.

I’m not sure if they fixed the issue with the authenticator, but I know a friend of mine used it and it booted him off every 15 minutes or so. Once he disabled the authenticator he was never booted again.
