I have 5 characters with 4 of them having no issues when starting to play, but when I choose the one who’s on fields of ruin, it gives me a network error!
(code=5:11:3:159:101)
halp!
Try guesting onto a different server, then logging into the character that gets the network error. If successful, move that character to another map, then you can log off and play on your home server.
So I would like to know who the bill goes to for the new mouse, keybord and replacment window goes to?
Send the bill to your parents.
Indeed, though it probably would have been cheaper to buy a better computer that can play the game.
You are probbaly right.
I go look what I needWindows® Minimum System Requirements
•Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
•Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better
•2 GB RAM
•NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
•25 GB available HDD space
•Broadband Internet connection
•Keyboard and mouseI have Windows 7 = Better
AMD Phenom II 64 X4 3.2Gz = Better
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 = Better
500 Gb HDD Space = Better
100 Mbit Broadband = I would like to know what speed is needed?
Keyboard and mouse = In the post hahahahahaThanks for your comments
)
I have a new question.
The above requirements are the minimum Specifications reqiured, (I can only think ppl who have that play the game in black and white)
What would be the minimum required specifications needed to have to be able to turn all the options on maximum?
btw
I Don’t Expect An Answer, I don’t think anyone knows.
What you are looking for is what some games call the ‘Recommended System Specifications’ which don’t exist for this game.

Define your definition of ‘smoothly’. What resolution do you play at? What FPS are you expecting to get? At what level of settings do you wish to play (low/med/high/mix of some)?

Alright, you’re getting a BSOD error that points to a problem with your pagefile file. You have 16GB of RAM and are somehow using 12GB while playing, yet you list yourself having 4GB. You have a 4GB GTX 680, but your report says you have 16GB of RAM which is nice and good. With that amount you really don’t need a pagefile if you’re just playing Guild Wars 2. I would suggest changing the amount of pagefile you have from the 4GB or so that the report mentions, down to maybe 1GB (if that).
To change your pagefile size, simply right-click on ‘My Computer’, hit ‘Properties’ then a new window pops up. There should be a link titled ‘Advanced system settings’ on the left side of the window. A new window pops up, head to the ‘Advanced’ tab if you are not already there, then hit the ‘Settings…’ button in the ‘Performance’ section. A new window pops up, head to the ‘Advanced’ tab. Hit the ‘Change…’ button in the ‘Virtual memory’ area. A new window pops up, uncheck the ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’ checkbox. A list of drives appears, for simplicities’ sake hightlight the ‘C’ drive by clicking on it, then farther down the page, hit the ‘Custom size:’ radio button and set the ‘Initial size (MB):’ and the ‘Maximum size (MB):’ to ‘1024’ without the single quotes. Hit the ‘Set’ button and hit the ‘OK’ button, hit the ‘OK’ button, hit the ‘OK’ button, close the last window. Reboot for the changes to take effect. Try playing the game and see what happens.

Well at least maybe next time you can toss it in a more correct sub-forum, like the bugs sub-forum. This has to deal with real computer problems, not design flaws.
The optimal WvW setup doesn’t technically exist. However, you can grab either a i5 4670K or i7 4770K and overclock them to 4.5Ghz and that will likely be the best you can get. Then, while you are at it since the 5770 isn’t exactly blazing technology, you can grab a new graphics card. If you want to run supersampling, you might want to grab something at the very top end of either AMD or Nvidia. That is, the HD 7970 or GTX 770, anything beyond that is a little excessive IMO.
Nothing is overclocked, I can’t find CPU-Z’s Temperature, and my GPU averages 58 degrees Celsius and doesn’t go over 62.
For some reason I was under the impression I was using CPU-Z to monitor my CPU’s temperatures. I was so wrong, I’m not really sure what I was thinking. Goes back and changes the 30 or so posts with correct information
I have a Razer Naga that I bought just for Guild Wars 2 since we can move and use skills now. I guess I’m more of a ‘person who never loses track of hand/button placement’ because I turn the lights in the mouse off since they’re distracting and actually warm the mouse up noticeably. Most of the time you’ll notice yourself smashing ‘1’ over and over, but having to use other skills isn’t hard. The two buttons I don’t use on that mouse-keypad are 11 and 12 since they’re a little harder to reach and I don’t have 12 skills in Guild Wars 2 to use.
Its pretty easy to clean if you got yourself some q-tips.
Hey i just got a new computer and the second cd doesn’t seem to work so im just asking does it download starting from the second cd or does it just restart the download? and how long will it take since the second cd doesn’t work?
It will start the download from where you left off, it shouldn’t redownload everything. It might look like that when you start the download again, that it starts over, but its really not. The game is checking which files have already been downloaded, which is why if you watch your ‘Download Speed’ during this phase its likely much much faster than what you are paying for. Then, once this phase completes, it’ll jump back to your normal download speed and resume the download. Be prepared for quite the download, the current game is about 16GB large and that isn’t including all the patches that have changed files in the game since the induction of the game.
I’m getting some graphic issues, I don’t really know how to describe them so I just recorded them. 2 Example links below.
Example 1 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBY_XMrLIOw
Example 2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T5wvDH8o_c
Getting about 45fps average. dips down to 20fps goes up to 80fps and WvW is around 10fps.
AMD FX 6300 3.5 Hexcore Processor
500gb Sata
8gb DDR3 Ram
GTX EVGA 650
Driver Version 320.18 (Up to date)
In both cases it seems like you are getting some artifacting going on, which is likely what those white flashes are. Lets start with the basics, are you overclocking anything? If so, lets make sure we set those OCs back to stock for now just to eliminate any issues those might be causing.
Then, I want you to check your CPU and GPU temperature while playing the game for a while. If you don’t already have software to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures, I recommend downloading HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
I’m guessing you are running a radeon 5850 1gb. I have the same card and I keep it at default 765/1125mhz and the game runs just fine. My CPU is i5 760 with no overclocking and 4 gigs of ram. I don’t know how you are monitoring the GPU usage and heat, but if you are alt tabbing and to check the Catalyst control panel then that is inaccurate. As soon as you alt tab out of the game, the card powers down to lower clock speeds. I believe your overclock speeds are near if not the max setting that Catalyst allows.
I can max every setting at 1080 with rendering at native and the game runs 30-40. I find the 2 biggest things that eat up performance is best texture filtering and reflections. Reflections for some reason eats up FPS with no real quality difference except around water and FPS still goes down even when theres no water around. I thought it might be armor shine, but that comes from shaders settings. Turning those 2 off I get 50-70FPS. Zergs eat up a lot of performance as well in WvW or Southsun champ farms. It will drop to 20ish but not unplayable. My WvW culling settings are at medium/low. There’s no need to see everyone in the zerg, you just need to know it’s around you.
This is slightly off topic, but useful information and still relevant AFAIK. The reason that when you change the reflections settings even when there is no water around and still get dramatic FPS changes is because the game’s engine incorporates Umbra’s software:
http://www.umbrasoftware.com/en/
however, something has screwed up where instead of not actually rendering stuff that you can’t see (like under the ground where water likely is) it still renders it and causes you to make reflections, etc. etc. I actually glitched underneath the ground in Snowden Drifts while next to a sound turret thing from F&F. All that was under the ground was water, the entire map is initially water (presumably to set the sea level to a certain height) then the land is built above/below the water (below for lakes/ponds/etc) and everything is above.
Perhaps overclocking is your issue. Your GPU is getting old , especially if its a 5830 so I would be expecting your GPU to be using everything it has to play the game at highest settings. You are right though, the game should be using more than the percent of GPU you are stating. I have a feeling something might be up with your hardware, I’ve seen more powerful GPU’s sit at 100%. Cut back to native speeds on your GPU and see what happens, overclocking might have harmed your card in some way.
Also, lets make sure your GPU is actually reading the full 16 PCI-e lanes rather than 1 or 4. An easy way to check this would be to use GPU-Z and check the ‘Bus Speed’. If its 2.0 x16 we’re good, anything other than that might warrant some investigation.
Out of curiosity, what is your ‘powerful’ CPU that you have going with your GPU?

So, the gw2.dat file was likely located on the E: drive. Just start over, delete all file associated with the game (your shortcuts, any Guild Wars 2 folders, etc. etc.), download the installer from ArenaNet’s website, place the installer where you want your game, and start downloading.

We have no idea for sure, but we can take some educated guesses. Lets start off simple, what CPU/GPU do you have, and what operating system do you run on?
What you can do is pay ArenaNet and/or NCSoft enough money to redo the Guild Wars 2 engine and make it work right the second time around.
You can buy better hardware.
In reality though, if you’re getting 60 FPS in chaotic WvW battles, you’re pulling some voodoo magic out of the mists and I wish you to teach the rest of us how to achieve such FPS.
The joking aside, it might be that your hardware is thermally throttling itself down which is why after a while your FPS dips. I would monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures while playing the game and see where they go. If you don’t already have software that monitors the GPU and CPU temperatures, then I would recommend grabbing HWMonitor here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
No offense but that is about as bad as asking if the game will run on my phone. The processor in the Pro is an Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor that likely only has both cores boost to 2.1Ghz and that is assuming the thing isn’t thermally throttled down. I would imagine the game to run like garbage on a Pro, this is performance you should expect.
What is your graphics card and is it up to date with the latest drivers?
You don’t lose the star.
Also, wrong sub-forum, this likely belongs in the Players Helping Players sub-forum.
Off topic but still relevant:
Anyone been looking at the recent “performance patches” to see if they are using more threads and/or what anet is doing?
Yup, they don’t give any detail to what they’re doing exactly. It could be something as small as a “we made the engine use 1% more CPU efficiently” which gains almost no benefits to “we’re overhauling the system guys and making the engine the way it was supposed to be made the first time around” which would make them super heroes in my book.
Alas, I have a feeling that they’re only putting those messages in there to quiet the storms. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they’re mentioning something since they’re becoming more transparent, but my gut says there isn’t much weight behind that bullet point in the patch notes.
It might get you a handful of FPS at most, and that is pushing it.

You have a socket 1155 processor which can be upgraded to some other popular models in the same socket family. The i5 3570 (or the i5 3570K if you want to overclock) or the i7 3770 (or the i7 3770K if you want to overclock) are good choices. Judging from your current processor, I doubt you do any hardcore video and audio encoding, so the i5 3570 (K) will work well for you. This chip usually runs around 215 dollars from most retailers. If you live near a Microcenter (US Only) then I recommend going there to get one which will save you 25 dollars.
The only thing we’ll need to make sure of is that your computer can handle the extra power needed by the new processor. I imagine it would be ok, but just to be sure, what power supply do you have and what motherboard do you have?
Check your computer’s temperatures. If you don’t already have software that monitors the temperatures of the CPU and GPU then I recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
It’ll also be helpful to know your operating system, CPU, and GPU.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
There are tons of other threads about this issue, check them out for solutions. I heard something like changing the language to German, letting it download, then changing it back to your native language or something resolves the issue.
Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. If you post your graphics card and operating system I can point you in the right direction to get the latest and greatest.
I would make sure you hard drive that the game resides on isn’t near full. Same goes with the hard drive with your pagefile. After that make sure you have enough RAM to actually play the game well, that is make sure your RAM usage isn’t close to 100% while running the game.
When talking about temperatures we want to know both GPU and CPU temperatures. This is likely related to something with the graphics card, so I would make sure the GPU temperatures are not too high. If you don’t have software that monitors this already, I recommend checking out GPU-Z which can be found here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2244/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-7-1/mirrors
Hi redkite, are you using a 32-bit or a 64-bit operating system? From what I can tell you’ve got some Out of Memory crash errors in the crashlog and this could be a limitation of your 32-bit operating system if your overall system memory exceeds (about) 3.5 GB.
He is indeed using a 32-bit OS according to the crash.txt that was linked. I do find it strange that some systems with 2GB of RAM, like my siblings’ computer, can run the game without a hitch, but then systems like this where they have more, but run into issues.
Also, the RAM used in that crash.txt is approximately 1.5GB of the 3.5GB available, but I’m not sure if this is RAM used by the whole system or RAM used by the game itself. Also, whether if this is RAM used just prior to the crash or just after the crash (which would seem pointless) but I’m not the one who knows the inner workings on how these crash reports are created. =P
I have to say though, there is no reason to not be on a 64 bit system now that the transition is basically seamless as long as you have 64 bit hardware…which you should have for Guild Wars 2 anyways since 32 bit hardware is likely under or close to the minimum specification for the game.

I’m not gunna lie, this is my first time examining .dmp files. It looks like a 124 BSOD which equates to the processor wanting more voltage. I encountered this error a lot during my overclocking testing, but I’m not sure how that translates over to an AMD processor, if at all. You don’t happen to have your processor overclocked or have your motherboard set to automatically overclock, do you?
I shut off overclocking in the catalyst manager because I seen somewhere that it could cause issues. But the switches on my mobo are still set to overclock. So I don’t really know if anything is overclocked atm. Even if they are, I’ve played with the current settings of my computer before. I don’t know why its having issues now. How would I increase the voltage to my processor to see if that’s the issue?
Well, I haven’t touched AMD’s overclocking abilities yet, I’ve only done Intel so far. However, parts do degrade over time and sometimes an overclock can be stable and eventually turn unstable. I imagine that an older part like the one you have is more susceptible to change due to its age. Hopefully someone else drops in and can better explain how to set voltage levels for overclocking AMD parts.

Well, assuming your resolution is 1920×1080 and you want 60FPS in the areas of the game that aren’t CPU bound, you’re likely looking at a GTX 660Ti/GTX570/GTX 760 (doesn’t exist yet) or HD 7870XT.
Not CPU bound I would guess even less than that, my 670 does not hit 40% load in most cases, I gave my GF my old GPU (560Ti) and gets better than that, however she hits a CPU limit often (WvW) because its a non-OCed 2500k, and she runs with everything at max I believe, I will have to ask her again, but last I remember that’s what she was getting.
So what you listed I would say are way more than safe bets on not being GPU bound, and would probably do fine with a 560Ti or the like, rest will probably be CPU bound. Good thing about the 560Ti is they can often be had for a good deal 2nd hand, but if you have the money to spare, getting the bit higher end cards suggested would not hurt by any means.
I hit up 100% often on my card prior to me hitting my frame limit of 60FPS and this is without supersampling turned on. I have a GTX 560Ti-448 OCed a bit, which is why I recommended the GTX 570 which is slightly better (when overclocked a bit like my card), then naturally the cards that would easily handle this in the Kepler architecture would be the 660Ti and 760 when it comes out.
With a normal 660, I would wonder if you could rock a solid 60 with supersampling on.
A dual-core is a dual-core on either laptops or desktops. Typically laptops have lower frequencies to make up for the lower power requirement and heat generation problems.
My rule of thumb for graphics on laptops for Guild Wars 2 is:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7670M.69483.0.html
Then, search the page for your card on the right-hand side. If it’s listed physically above Intel’s HD 3000 graphics you’re most likely in the green. If it is just below Intel’s HD 3000, then I would give it a coin toss on whether it actually would work or not.
As for the processor, I’ve seen sub 2.0Ghz C2D processors work (1.86 worked for me). It should also be pointed out that Intel dual-core 2.0Ghz != AMD dual-core 2.0Ghz. To be on the safe side though, if you’re looking at Intel, follow their minimum specification, if you’re looking at AMD, shoot for a slightly faster frequency (not bashing AMD here, its just a fact that Guild Wars 2 loves higher frequency and AMD’s single thread performance is worse than Intel’s).
I’m not gunna lie, this is my first time examining .dmp files. It looks like a 124 BSOD which equates to the processor wanting more voltage. Even at 720p I don’t think this will be excellent. The 7670M is between a GT 630M and GT635M which are very media-type graphics cards. The processor isn’t bad, so I would say your limiting factor in this rig is your discrete graphics card which is nothing to be desired. I don’t have much experience with laptop specifications but if I had to take a stab at this:
PvE:
60FPS?
45FPS?
30FPS?
WvW: (assuming large chaotic battles of 100+ people)
35FPS?
25FPS?
15FPS?
You copied over the big old gw2.dat file from your ‘Program Files’ folder to where ever you keep all your Guild Wars 2 files on the new system? It should just work since the game only consists of the gw2.dat file, all 15.5+GB worth. I would check where your client is trying to re-download the game to and toss your old gw2.dat file where ever this location happens to be.
System specifications please, give us everything you can. BSOD errors and dump files, give us all the niddy griddy stuff about your computer.

Well, have you done what it implies you to do?
-Make sure Guild Wars 2 is allowed through your firewall.
-Make sure the proper ports are open to allow Guild Wars 2 network traffic.
-Make sure you are on a network that typically doesn’t suck (covers the campus network part of that message).
Sadly, when you said you met the minimum requirements for the game, you weren’t aware that the minimum was Intel’s HD 3000 and you have Radeon’s X1200 which is worse than Intel’s HD 3000. Simply put, your old laptop does not meet the minimum requirements to play Guild Wars 2.
If you’re in the market to buy something better, there are a lot of people here that will chip in and guide you to what would suit your needs best hardware wise. Just make a thread titled something along the lines of, ‘What should I get to play Guild Wars 2 at so and so FPS?’
People around here seem to love answering to those threads (myself included).
Alternatively you could search the previous pages of the forums for similar threads since there are quite a few and judge based off what people have said in the past. With Haswell just launched this week, its an exciting time to purchase something new.
I’m a monitor freak too, do you watch your upload and download rates to make sure they are within the norms for what you are doing on your computer?
For something as strange as this, I would submit a support ticket like Kyllaa said and see what ArenaNet says.
Your specifications far outpace the specifications for minimum requirements to play Guild Wars 2. Perhaps what you can do is copy the gw2.dat file when you successfully launch the game to a back up directory for when this happens next. Then, instead of re-downloading the entire game to fix it, all you would have to do is copy over your backup gw2.dat to the game’s directory and update it to the most recent patch. This is a band-aid fix though since it doesn’t really fix anything but just expedites the being able to play again process.
Hah, yeah I wouldn’t either at that temperature. Good luck with the overclock if you do. I hear with a solid CPU cooler you can reach the sweet spot at 4.5 Ghz.

oh i was also getting the 711 error and dcing everying 4-5 minutes getting rid of pando media booster fixed this for me
Just to let everyone know, Pando Media Booster is a program that is bundled with some games (not Guild Wars 2) that is similar to a bittorrent client for uploading and downloading video games. Some publishers use this as their way of getting the game to you. In the case of my siblings who ran into this issue on their home network, Pando was using all 5Mb upload to someone else downloading the game from our computer (instead of downloading the game from the company’s servers) and making everything network related kitten slow. Uninstall this program as it likely isn’t needed and is only there to lessen the impact on whatever game’s servers Pando is connected to.

No problem, if you’re looking for help on what to choose there are a ton of people on here that will gladly help and give their opinions. They’ll also likely let you know what FPS to expect on certain settings.
With that said though, Guild Wars 2 likely won’t run very well no matter what graphics card you get. Your CPU is like at the minimum requirement as well. To be fair, the PC you bought was not meant to game at all besides playing Line Rider and Angry Birds. The PC you bought was more for generic web surfing, keeping up with social media, and watching random YouTube videos. If you wanted a decent gaming PC you’d be spending about 600-700 dollars and not the sub 400 dollars on this pre-built HP box.
My ‘GTX 560Ti 448 edition’ will play on a 1080p screen with mostly max settings at 35+ FPS in areas other than crowded cities, more chaotic WvW battles, and large dynamic events. I don’t have supersampling on and I turn down the reflections from ‘All’ to ‘Terrain and Sky’ in some areas like the swamplands because my FPS tanks in those areas.
Things people usually ask when they will suggest a new system is:
What is your budget?
What resolution monitor do you have? (normal for most people is 1080p)
And finally, what settings (min/med/max or a mix of those) would you like to play at and achieve a certain FPS.
I’m sorry that you bought a new PC and expected it to play Guild Wars 2, but its always best to check the minimum requirements and get people’s opinions about how well the game will play on whatever hardware you have. There have been a bunch of threads of people asking what hardware is recommended and which pre-built system is better than another.
The resources are here, all you have to do is ask =)

Soooo much antivirus, I would use at max one program because antivirus tend to conflict so much.
Anyways, your real problem is that your graphics module isn’t cool enough to play Guild Wars 2. Time to upgrade!
Minimum requirement is Intel’s HD 3000 and your AMD HD 7340 is worse.
I agree, its normal for your CPU to rock out all the way under certain situations in Guild Wars 2. It’s at times like this that I recommend overclocking to get the additional performance required to play the game and not max the usage of your CPU, or upgrade to something a little more beastly, like a 3770K.
Try deleting the local.dat file that normally resides in the Guild Wars 2 user documents folder. I would also make sure that your desktop has internet access.
If that didn’t fix your issue, I would change the language in the corner of the launcher to ‘German’ and see if it starts the download.
Other than that, I’m not really sure how to help. Your best bet is to probably create a support ticket to have ArenaNet try and resolve the issue.
Hard to say, but I can help make some few educated guesses. I would try running memtest on each individual stick of RAM in your system. You can find memtest to download here:
http://www.memtest.org/
I recommend using the flash drive installer version which makes using memtest really simple. memtest essentially checks your RAM for errors which is sometimes where c0…05 error comes from.
You’re welcome and good luck with the downloading.
So, when closing the launcher mid patch, the launcher will resume where it left off. It might not look like it at first because the launcher checks the files it has previously downloaded. During this phase, the download speed will likely look what Barcelona gets (incredibly fast) but in reality its not downloading anything and just checking files. Once that phase completes, the client resumes the download as if everything was normal.
With you being so close to crazy internet speeds, I would grab a laptop and toss Guild Wars 2 on it and download the patch while at some Cafe or Pub or whatever places have public internet with fiber (if any). Then, when you’re back at home at your desktop, copy the client from your laptop to the desktop.
Other than that, there really isn’t much you can do.
Well its likely larger than 16-13.5 because I’m sure a lot of files have been overwritten since the inception of the game. I would expect at least 4-5GB.

It looks like your packets (data) are never quite reaching ArenaNet, they obviously get close because the IP address before it starts timing out has NCSoft written all over it. This is likely a problem with ArenaNet’s internal infrastructure dropping packets. I’m not sure there is much you can do besides report the problem in a support ticket.
