Thanks Avelos.
Why do you recommend keeping GW2 on the HDD?
Any suggestions for motherboard, case, or power supply?
No idea for a good motherboard, but I would stick with ASUS and Gigabyte since every motherboard I have bought from them has outlived the useful life of the processor tied to it.
Same goes for a case, I made the mistake of getting a Thermaltake V3 which is a mid-tower. I find that it is far too small for poking around inside the case.
As for a power supply, if you ever plan on expanding your computer to add another graphics card, you might want to grab something like a 750W power supply. If not, a 600W or so will do. Brands I recommend are Corsair and Seasonic.
Personally, I keep Guild Wars 2 on an older SSD (original OCZ Vertex series 30GB) and not on my fastest drive. I would rather use the space on my main drive for just the operating system and keeping the drive relatively empty for maximum performance.
However, in your case where there is just a hard drive and an SSD, I would toss the game on the SSD.

For a good while now my client has been inexplicably crashing. I have tried contacting support who asked me to try a variety of options, changing ram clock speeds, verifying the client, creating a new windows user account and reinstalling the game. All to no avail, my guild wars folder in my documents constantly gets filled with “Corrupt-random string.dat” files. The arenanet.log file contains various crashes such as:
Assertion: No valid case for switch variable ‘submodel->type’
File: ..\..\..\Engine\Gr\Model\GrModel.cpp(199)and the most popular of all:
Assertion: A file was corrupted in the archive. Please run once with ‘-repair’!
File: ..\..\..\Game\Main\MainCli.cpp(594)Verifying the client never fixes the problem. I have tried various hardware diagnostics, removing ram sticks and trying the game, running memtest86 overnight (test had no errors after 8 passes).
I’m at a loss here and I have come to the forums hoping for some help with this issue.
I’m going to assume that ‘verifying the client’ was a -repair, and that various hardware diagnostics is not a disk check. To perform a disk check do the following.
Open ‘My Computer’ and right click the hard drive that contains Guild Wars 2. Click ‘Properties’ and a new window opens up. In this new window go to the ‘Tools’ tab and click ‘Check now…’. Then, just follow the wizard from there to guide you through the completion of the disk check.

Intel Core i7 2600K Temp: Core #0 46-50C, Core#1 48-51C, Package 47-51C
AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Temp: 75C
HD6900 Bus Interface is still PCI-E 2.0×16 @ x8 2.0Just checked bus interface, It says the card is capable of running 2.0×16 but is at 2.0×8
All of this was taken, 5minutes after starting the game, in open world.
Those temperatures are fine, that bus interface is likely the culprit. I would reseat your graphics card on your motherboard. Make sure the graphics card is in the slot closest to the CPU. The slot closest to the CPU is normally the primary slot that has the most lanes dedicated to it (x16 normally).

My GPU-z states “PCI-E 2.0 × 16 @ 16 2.0” in the bus interface box. It’s also got a question mark beside it. Would you know what that means?
Edit: That was taken in-game a few weeks back.
@ x16 2.0 is the desired result. As for the question mark, I have no idea. However, it shows the question mark you mention in a screen shot on the application’s main website page:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
picture:
http://tpucdn.com/gpuz/screen1.gif
Fourth one just arrived. It’s slightly different, but still, it’s a crash, and it’s annoying.
I would preform a -repair action on the gw2.dat file. To do this follow this guide:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
I know its for the original game, the premise is the exact same, this one is just easier to follow than the Guild Wars 2 wiki version. Use the -repair switch.

Hi, thanks for the fast response! I checked to see if my GPU is using all 16 2.0 PCI-e lanes here’s what it says “PCI-E 2.0×16 @ x8 2.0”
Is that when you’re playing the game? Not at character select, but normal game play.

Went to do Ascalonian Catacombs earlier today (I think most or all of us were from TC in this case) and somehow we got a really broken instance: the entire party was getting lag and disconnects, in spite of being fine before we entered. I didn’t even notice anything weird out in the world after 1 disconnect and 1 restart of the router just in case, but upon returning to the instance it was just as bad as it had been before, both times. Eventually we had to just close it because it was impossible to play, and after replacing some people who went to sleep, we started a new one which worked fine.
I’m not really sure what that indicates exactly but something seemed pretty messed up and I don’t think it was on our end(s) given the way it was limited to that one instance.
My theory on some of the lag issues with Guild Wars 2 is due to server loads. Whoever starts the dungeon creates an instance of the dungeon on their home server. Then, everyone from the party essentially guests over to the creator’s home server when they hit the button to join them in the dungeon. This is why, when in the party with people in a dungeon, you hover over their portrait to check out their location, its always ‘CoF (Fort Aspenwood)’ if the person who entered CoF first (in the party) was on Fort Aspenwood. This is all back-end stuff not visually shown to the player because it would likely create questions like, “why can’t we guest on more than 2 servers (every 24 hours) if we can ‘guest’ when ever we do a dungeon with someone from a different server.”
There are certain servers I have lag/skill delay problems with, luckily my home server is not one of them, but when I’m doing certain things that are more efficient when being able to use three server’s spawns instead of just one, I find that some servers have skill delay and others don’t when I guest.

I’ve played this game on my older rig and keep a constant 40-50fps on all low settings. I’ve been wanting to get more out of this game so I built a new rig and barely manage 25fps on low settings, any ideas?
Here are my new Specs:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz (OC to 4.3GHz)
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4078MB RAM
Page File: 2297MB used, 5854MB available
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Chip type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0×6719)
Display Memory: 2798 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1015 MB
Shared Memory: 1782 MBI have NO idea what could be causing the game to lag so bad on my rig, maybe bottlenecking. I really do enjoy this game and any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Two things;
First, I want you to check the temperatures of both your GPU and CPU while in the game after five minutes. This will allow the load temperatures to settle in to their maximum temperatures. If you don’t already have software that monitors your GPU temperature and CPU temperature, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe
Secondly, you’ll want to make sure your GPU is actually using all 16 2.0 PCI-e lanes on your motherboard. I usually do this by downloading GPU-Z, which can be found here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2252/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-7-2/mirrors
here, a wordpad copy that im hoping will work!
You said you have a recent driver, but your file says otherwise, I would download this driver:
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/64632
and give it a test run.
I would make sure your graphics card is not overclocked in any way. Make sure it runs at stock clocks. If you don’t already have software that monitors your GPU, then I recommend getting MSI’s Afterburner to investigate the clock speeds. You can find Afterburner here:
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

I upgraded my video card from a Radeon HD 7750 to a Geforce GTX 660 ti.
After the upgrade Guild Wars 2 will often freeze on start up. It will go to a blank screen and then nothing will happen.
My specs are attached.
Try updating your graphics driver:
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/64634
Well, everytime I try and sell stuff on the Trading Post it tells me that “Error has occrued” and won’t let me list my item. This happens with all my items on each character on multiple computers. I am able to buy things from it but I am just unable to sell them.
When I try and send mail it says “Processing previous mail”, I have deleted all the mail in my mailbox and have tried to send it but it hasn’t work, I have typed in the characters name for example when I send the mail I type in “Blue Moon Buttercup.5614” but it won’t send to the character.
Transfering, yes I am able to guest but me and my friends don’t play PvE, all we do is play WvWvW and you can’t guest and play that. When I try to transfer it keep the transfer screen up for about 20 minutes and then it logs me out saying that the server is full and puts me back into the server I was just in with my gems.
If opening the ports does not fix your problem, I would submit a support ticket to ArenaNet to see what they have to say. It almost seems like an account issue. Can you test whether you can sell and send mail on another network?
Ah, right. So, as Bill Feist mentions at the bottom of this page:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Official-response-on-the-Lag-issues-please/page/4
There may a positive in that FPS could be increased in a future build? Perhaps some code optimisation?
I don’t like to speculate but… we’ll have to wait to find out :p
You could also try Speccy. This one was recommended to me by the Anet team and gives you a stack of info about your rig:
I’m not sure Speccy shows what the GPU usage of the GPU is. I know it doesn’t for Intel’s embedded GPU solution.
So would culling have an impact on FPS?
Very much so, the more people/objects shown on the screen, the more the CPU has to do all sorts of calculations. Eventually, there comes a point where the CPU just can’t do enough calculations on all the people/objects fast enough. This makes is so the CPU can’t feed the GPU enough data fast enough to produce a smooth FPS.

This is actually not an Asus laptop, it is a desktop that I just recently built and here are the specs
Radeon HD 7790
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
AMD Phenom II Black Edition 3.4 GHzI’m about to try updating drivers and see where that gets me. I thought I had done it after installing a new harddrive and starting from scratch again but apparently I missed at least one. Thanks!
That log you posted earlier is not picking up any 7790. You might want to make sure it is properly connected with any external power and in the proper PCI-e slot. The log shows you using something that looks like some onboard motherboard graphics. The motherboard should know to let a discrete card take over when it is properly installed, so there shouldn’t be a need to change any settings in BIOS. It is never harmful to look in BIOS though just to make sure.

Indeed. As i said back in Jan on this thread, software cant ‘cause’ it.
It can show up an existing hardware issue, but it(software) wont be the route cause. The route cause will be hardware related.
TBH imo its common sense logic. Though that may just be a biased view as i already have the knowledge.
But I cant see any sense in coming to the conclusion that software can somehow cause a piece of hardware, designed to run akittens max load, to suddenly start overheating whilst having adequate cooling.
The ONLY software that can influence heat on a CPU or GPU is software that controls fan speeds and voltages. GW2 is neither.
Therefor its hardware related.
As the last few posts have said, software can’t overheat hardware…
Maybe people are thinking that Guild Wars 2 is overclocking their hardware which then turns it into a software problem. However, that is not the case and when overclocking the user takes full responsibility for knowing the consequences of running hardware are higher than rated performance.
Hmmm yea, have to start the game to complete the patching lol
Interesting, I feel like that is a huge mistake on ArenaNet’s part D=
You should be able to do what you have explained above, patch and then close when the patch is complete, then come back and expect it to work.

Drivers are:
AMD
3/28/2013
12:104.0.0
My Dell download manager indicated they were the latest. Also checked them with Steam and it also says they are the latest. The video before it enters the area looks fine – once I enter an area – Cursed Shores, Labrynth cliffs – any place – the image just sort of stutters. Not sure what happened on Thursday, but it hasn’t been right since. Been doing dailies for the whole month until then.
The ISP offered to send in a tech to check everything out -at a cost of course – rather not do that and find out it’s just a game setting – or a game software problem.
Re-installed, ran – repair, deleted the local.dat – all suggestions of the forum. Maybe it will just heal itself – yes that could happen.
Next thing to check would be the temperatures for your CPU and GPU. If you don’t already have software that monitors the CPU and GPU temperatures, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe
Make sure to measure the temperatures after the game has been running for a few minutes so that the temperatures reach their load levels.
Hello,
I haven’t played Guildwars in four month and my laptop was wiped whilst away. So today I go back to log in and have forgotten my password; obviously I went to reset the password and as it turns out I need the serial number for my game which was lovingly sent to my e-mail address, the problem being I no longer have the e-mail containing the number, so the question is, where do I go from here?
You can try sending a support ticket to ArenaNet and see what they have to say on the matter. Maybe they can verify you and your account via different methods.
Hello OP!
Okay so now that you mention you don’t care for 60 FPS, I can make some alright recommendations on some upgrade parts.I took a look into your current processor’s socket connection and the list of similar processors seeming compatibile (ultimately determined by your mainboard’s manufacturer,) an upgrade to your processor may be pretty costly. (An AMD Athlon64 X2 6400+ is $450 brand new and it’s OLD! Although I never looked at the price if it’s changed over the past couple years) But from what I can see, your best bet may be for purchasing new hardware. Mainly CPU, RAM, motherboard, and GPU if that matters to you, if you currently have a dedicated graphics card. However if you want a new graphics card, you may have to consider purchasing a new power supply unit as well (along with Windows IF YOU NEED TO)
So, here my suggested recommends are,
AMD A10-6800K. This processor may be a bit on the pricier side of things, however it’s the top of the line for AMD APU. the reason I picked it is because of the graphics hardware that comes onboard with the processor itself. The graphics hardware that is integrated into the processor should be powerful enough to let you play your games at a casual enjoyable pace with fair frame rates. It also comes with a huge base frequency of 4.1 GHz with a 4.4 GHz turbo so there’s no real need to overclock. For mainboard, I recommend, MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 AMD A75 (Hudson D3).
I don’t know too much about it, but the price is low and it looks good with a lot of features and a lot of positives on the site I usually buy from. It’s only 62 dollars I think.RAM, a single 4 GB stick G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066.
If you need or want a GPU, I recommend any of the AMD Radeon HD 7700 series graphics cards. They’re great on price.
If you need to upgrade your power supply unit,
Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply.
It’s very inexpensive but it should power all you need. It’s like 50 dollars for me I know that much.I hope this list gives you some ideas or some help!
[EDITEDITEDITEDIT]
Okay so I just noticed someone said that OP may have an AM3+ board. If that is true, then I recommend at least going for a processor upgrade of say an AMD FX-4170 or 4350. They’re not expensive. Just a thought!
I would skip the bulldozer part and go with anything viscera, FX 43XX, FX 63XX, or FX 83XX.

Started with low FPS on Thursday July 25th (running 5 FPS to 8FPS). Submitted a ticket and ran trace software as requested. They told me that I was losing packets and to contact my ISP. Ran Chat with ISP support where we reset the modem and checked everything – nothing was found. Connected direct to the Cable modem, bypassing my router and still low FPS. All drivers and system check out OK. Uninstalled and re-installed GW2 – no change
I can run GW1, Steam and all Steam games without issues (running Bioshock Infinite now). Rather frustrated because I have been playing since Dec with no major Issues. Don’t see a solution anywhere. I think my GW2 days may be over for a while
Alienware Aurora: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz
Video_Caption: ATI Radeon HD 5900 Series (dual)
Video_AdapterRAM: 1024MB
Video_DriverVersion: 8.762.0.0
I feel like those are two very unrelated issues, FPS should not be impacted by your network connection. I can see the dropped packets affecting your connection and how stable the connection is, but not your FPS.
What graphics drivers are you running, and are they up to date?
Heat is fine (68c max CPU temparature, GPU aroun 60c), tried uptading drivers, but it still had the old problem (the one that slowed me down randomly) so I just formatted it and it worked fine for two days, then this fps drop, sometimes it gets high fps for the first seconds I enter the game, then they horribly drop.
On medium-high it is around 4-8 fps, on low it is 10-18, if I also put subsample it gets to 25-30 but it is really horrible to look (before the drop it used to get around 60fps with subsample)
What clock rate is your GPU running at when playing Guild Wars 2? If you don’t already have GPU monitoring software, then I recommend getting MSI’s Afterburner and checking the clock rates and GPU usage.
My game keeps crashing everytime I try to get to Divinitys Reach. I’ve tried with 3 characters, fine else where.
I’ve sent off the crash report that was automatically generated, what should I do next.Thanks.
Submit a support ticket to ArenaNet.
Repair your game client.
Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. I can point you in the right direction on where to download the latest and greatest if you let us know your operating system and GPU.

Prob gonna pick one up soon thanks again. Still unsure what card I’ll get thinking I’m leaning towards the 7790 or 7850.
I hope I find just as helpful people when I need to upgrade again.
Just to verify though there will be no in game performance difference with a new power source correct? However it will help my computers over all performer as well as allow me to use a stronger graphics card that will give my game much better performance.
Shoot for the 7850. Also, you are correct, there will be no visual increase in performance, but you will now have avenues to pursue when you upgrade, such as a better graphics card.
I quoted the other thread to keep all the information in the proper sub-forum.
Anyways, either of those GPUs can push 1080p at 30FPS, but I would look at the GTX 760 rather than the GTX 660Ti. Just make sure the HD 7870 is the XT version since its the version worth getting.
The real problem is getting any CPU to do large WvW battles at 30FPS. For this you will need to overclock either CPU you mentioned to something like 4.5Ghz to see close to 30FPS in large WvW battles. You’ll likely also want to turn down character detail in WvW and maybe culling as well depending if you want performance or visibility.
Depending on what else you use the computer for, an i7 3770K would make sense, but for most people an i5 3570K works. If you do lots of audio/video encoding or stream the game you’re playing, then the i7 3770K would be a better choice. It should also be noted that Haswell came out and you can get the replacements of the processors I mentioned (i5 4670K and i7 4770K).
Thank you for your reply. Can I ask you a little bit more explanation?
Firstly, what is a good motherboard for the build? And secondly, how do I overclock a processor? You might think I’m really stupid and I am possibly ignorant of these things. So, kindly help me understand. And does HASWELL improve performance a great deal over the IVY BRIDGE?
I can’t really make a good recommendation for a motherboard, I haven’t really chosen one for a long time and am out of the loop with those.
As for the differences of Haswell and Ivy Bridge, performance wise, Haswell is on average 5% faster clock for clock. So its not a big deal. If you purchase an Ivy Bridge, you are buying into an end of life socket (LGA 1155) while Haswell (LGA 1150) may have minor upgrades coming to it in the future. The upgrades likely won’t be very exceptional. I don’t see Intel making any huge leaps and bounds here for another couple years…Which means that by the time you upgrade from a i5 4670K or i7 4770K the LGA 1150 socket will likely be end of life.
As far as overclocking goes, I find it easiest to follow a guide and learn from there.

I have everything patched and I played with no issues since last week, but now I can log-in perfectly but after hitting the “Play” button client freezes, a black background appears under the client and if I click again anywhere a message pops from windows stating the program does not respond, after which Guild Wars 2 is shut down.
I have seen a post similiar to this from 5 days ago saying it was solved by removing ASUSgamerosd from the pc, I already did it and it hasn’t worked, please I don’t know what could be malfunctioning I was playing smoothly last week and I don’t think the patch has anything to do with this. I attach the Arenanet.log but i don’t know if it will be useful.
Thank you
Eh, the log only has dated crashes from 2012, so we won’t be finding the answers there. First, make sure you are not overclocking any part of your machine, we’ll eliminate that first. Make sure no other on screen displays (OSD) are on. I know there are ones in MSI’s Afterburner and Mumble.
You’ll also want to make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Assuming you haven’t upgraded your computer since September of last year, you can find the latest drivers here:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_win8-64.aspx
Thanks for the suggestion, but no dice :/
Is there a keyboard setting for closing all windows in the controls settings? I would double check thakittens been a really long time since I have been in the controls settings.
I would also try to repair the client.
As of two days ago, my Escape key does absolutely nothing in this game (and only in this game, it functions as normal everywhere else). It doesn’t bring up the game menu, which is only a small hassle, but much more importantly it doesn’t close any other in-game menus, or dialogues, or the world map, or trade windows, etc. You never really realize how much you use this key for these things until it stops working.
“Disable closing windows with ESC” is not ticked; a topic from a while ago recommended enabling this option, relogging, and disabling it again, which I have tried. This did happen to me once before but it went away after about a day; no such luck this time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Try deleting the local.dat file which can be found in your user documents under a directory named something along the lines of ‘Guild Wars 2’.
This file typically holds user settings and is known to cause all assortments of problems. I would try this and see what happens (this will reset some of your settings in game).

So, last time i played GW2 was about 6 months ago, and, in that time i always had 50/80 FPS with every option in High.
Currently I’m stuck between 8/15 FPS…
I placed everything on low, and it’s the same, i just used the repair tool and nothing changed.
I keep playing my other games exactly how i used to, this is only happening with GW2 and i really have no idea why.My setup :
Windows 7 Ultimate 64x
ASUS M5A99X EVO
AMD Phenom II X4 965 – 4core 3.4 ghz
AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB DDR5
8 GB DDR3I already checked for drivers and that kind of stuff.
Thank you for reading, any tip will help me here
Have a nice day
Let us start by monitoring your GPU, if you don’t already have a program that monitors your GPU, then I would recommend GPU-Z, which can be found here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2252/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-7-2/mirrors
Make sure your GPU is being utilized 100% and is running at stock clocks (no overclocking). Make sure the GPU is running at least PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 2.0. Anything other than @ x16 2.0 is likely the culprit hindering the speed of your graphics card.
You might have to reseat the graphics card to the motherboard to make sure its using all 16 lanes of the PCI-e slot. Usually it is just a bad connection with the motherboard that is causing the problems.

Hi all,
I just recently transferred from Tarnished coast to Maguma and I’m experiencing huge lag/skill delay.
Are the servers located on different places? or do i have to wait a few days for my transfer to be stable?
Thanks!
My guess is that some servers experience a higher amount of people playing on them and require additional pylons (resources). I know that when I guest to some servers I have laggy input and skill delay. I’m just lucky I don’t have it on my home server (FA).
I just got a new computer. And im running around when the games lags, and some times stops for a few mins. I dont think this is server side, think it might be my computer.
Any ideas or help would be nice. Also, every so often the game in window mode changes the text at the top of the window from “Guild Wars 2” to chines or something. dont know if they are related though.
Just to clarify, when you say lag, do you mean low FPS or actual input delay. Input delay could be like pressing a button to use a skill and 4 seconds later the skill is actually used. Low FPS is low frame rate, meaning choppy game play.
Ok, here is the log file.
I will let the devs answer this, not going to blame you, me or my cats, lets just solve this.
I find it interesting that your RAM usage is really low when the crash report is generated, and you’re using virtually none of your page file either. Something might be wrong with Windows since normally just the operating system takes more than 114MB of RAM and 5MB of page file…
I’m not really sure what to check here, it might be the RAM as the culprit, but then I would expect your page file to be excessively used, which it is not. If I were in your shoes, I would try installing Windows 8 again. Something just seems off, maybe your RAM was polled for measurement right after it released everything from Guild Wars 2 and didn’t have time to populate the operating system stuff in it again. However, I checked the first entry from back in 2012 and it shows the same thing, low memory usage.
Hello, I recently had to move, and left my old desktop behind (I was going to replace it soon anyway). I still have my laptop, but it’s not powerful enough to run WvW, or most of GW2 for that matter.
I’ve been saving up a little of my pay checks each week, and am looking at buying this build:
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/CCameron/saved/230wI’m looking for some feedback, if anyone thinks anything needs a little upgrade, or if I can afford to cut back a little in some places. I building this to run GW2 at, or near, 60fps most of the time and, hopefully, never dropping below 30 (in larger groups).
If you do have any suggestions for changes please discuss the pro’s and cons of doing so.Here is a helpful link that might let give people a little more information:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/guild-wars-2-performance-benchmark,3268-6.html
I can see your build getting close to 30 FPS in the larger group areas. You’ll need to overclock your processor to achieve this, so hopefully you know that ahead of time. Perhaps you can purchase a better CPU cooler to get a better overclock, something like a Noctua NH-D14 if you’re wanting top of the line air cooling, or you can grab a Corsair H60 for an AiO water cooling solution if you’re into that.
Dear MODs/Players,
Pardon my dust for I posted in the wrong section. Kindly answer and move the thread here please.https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Building-new-Rig/
Thank you very much for your time and answers.
Hey All,
I am a new GW2 player. I have two level 40 characters and one level 5 character. I’m doing what most new MMO players do – you know, staring around, being awe struck at the shiny stuff people wear and simply being silly around 80 chars just to befriend them.
So, I’m doing all this from my old lappy – Core i5 2510E, GT 540M and 8GB 1333Mhz. I get as far as 14-20FPS in normal gameplay, 9FPS in PvP/Champion/Dungeons/Events and 2FPS in WvW. :P Somehow I was living only with that for three months now.
Now, I have saved up some money to upgrade to a desktop probably by the 20th of August. I have decided to spend a maximum $1000-$1100 on this rig. My research for the past two weeks have brought me to the following specs:
1. Intel Core i7 3770 or Core i5 3570K (Confused help needed)
2. Kingston HyperX or Corsair Dominator 2000Mhz DDR3 RAM
3. 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (already have)
4. GeForce GTX 660Ti or AMD HD 7870 (Confused help needed)
5. 24" Samsung Monitor (already own one)
Kindly help me decide on the parts and also suggest a good Motherboard in my budget.
My questions are:
1. Will the above rig give me a constant 30FPS in Normal World (PvE) as well as WvW?
2. Will the above CPU/GPU combo be able to handle the bottlenecks and throttles better than my laptop in 720P (1280 × 720) resolution and graphics at HIGH (not ULTRA) and still give me 30FPS?
3. Will the throttling of FPS to 30 better the performance of the system greatly?
Thank you very much for your time and answers.
This sounds a lot like overheating, or a power problem. I think it’s just a coincidence that it happened after a patch.
I have been playing guildwars 2 fine on my laptop since release.
Specs are
i5@2.5 Ghz
radeon 7730 card
4gb’s of ram.I did recently install windows 8. Basically i’m playing on a fresh install.
Just to be on the safe side, like was mentioned above, you should check your GPU and CPU temperatures. If you don’t already have software that monitors your CPU and GPU temperatures, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe
1. I’m gonna buy a laptop and I wanna know how well it will run gw2, if I’ll be able to run it on high or on the highest graphics, etc. Here are the specs:
- Intel Core i5-3230M
– 2.6GHz-3.2GHz
– 6MB Cache Memory
– 4GB, can be upgraded up to 16GB.
– 750GB
– 7200RPM
– NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M, 2GB DDR3
– 1920×1080
– 15.6’’2. And another questions is, is it necessary for that laptop to also expand the 4GB to 8GB in order to run things better? Or is 4GB enough? Because I won’t be running that many programs at the same time. I’ll probably run GW2, Skype, TS, a browser and iTunes simultaneously and that’s it. So do I need to buy an expansion?
You’ll likely be able to run the game at a very average setting profile and get 60 FPS. Your processor will suck, so don’t expect high FPS in crowded areas like large dynamic events and large WvW battles.
8GB of RAM would help and it is what I recommend the minimum for gaming machines.
For the past 2 weeks I have been unable to send mail or sell anything on the Trading Post. My friends have transferred to another server and I am unable to join them. Can I get some help on how to fix this problem?
So you can’t guest on to another server? I feel like you have two different problems. Why can’t you join your friends?
I would get the HD 7790, but I can’t say how well the game would run with ‘Supersampling’ and reflections set to ‘All’. If you set it to ‘Native’ and ‘Terrain and Sky’ and likely get 60 FPS or close to it. Turning on the two aforementioned settings will likely kill your FPS since those two are the most GPU intense settings in the game.
You’ll experience lower FPS in more crowded areas like LA, large WvW battles, and large dynamic events because your CPU is very low end.
I just got an email from “arena-net” saying this :
Greetings!
It has come to our attention that you are trying to sell your personal Guild Wars account(s). As you may not be aware of, this conflicts with the EULA and Terms of Agreement. If this proves to be true, your account can and will be disabled. It will be ongoing for further investigation by ArenaNet Entertainment’s employees. If you wish to not get your account suspended you should immediately verify your account ownership.
You can confirm that you are the original owner of the account to this secure website with:(Not gonna post the real website name)
If you ignore this mail your account can and will be closed permanently. Once we verify your account, we will reply to your e-mail informing you that we have dropped the investigation.

Account Administration Team
Thanks! —The ArenaNet Team"Is this a scam to keylog me and get my PW?
Likely, I would just delete it and move on. The closing part of that letter looks awfully thrown together by some program. It probably should have read:
’Regards,
Account Administration Team’
or
’Regards,
The ArenaNet Team’
not both with an added ‘Thanks’ which just looks very out of place.
Mainly a question to any Direct TV internet users, I’m trying to find out if there is a data limit or cap with this provider? If there is does that mean the internet is cut off (offline) till the next cycle of billing?
Googled over the last couple days and I could not find specific data bout this, even on their site. Guildies I’ve talked to don’t have it and use other means of a provider. 10 years ago didn’t have to worry bout data plans but this day an age seems to be a price on it now.
I know some are gonna say to just call the provider but personal experiences would also help before do sign up with them or someone else.
Thanks
I’m not sure how much of a response you’re going to get. I would just call them and see what they say. The worst that can happen is that you find out the truth and its not a truth you wanted. You can also threaten to leave their service unless the limit (if it exists) is extended or removed entirely.

this is unrelated to nkey rollover. it’s a bug with the game.
Nice necro…
Submit a bug report and maybe bring the bug up in the Bugs sub-forum. The Tech Support sub-forum is the wrong one.
had already done and not resolved
Is there anything else you have done so that we know not to suggest it?
After approximately 10mins in game, the screen would start bugging out and eventually resulting in the bug report appearing. I would really appreciate anyone’s help with my problem! I have attached the crash report. I have ensured that my gpu driver is updated also. Thank you for your help!
Nice machine, when I was scrolling through your crash report I totally thought you had a desktop with some i7 with 24GB of RAM. Then, I saw the 770M and my mind was blown. Something suspicious is the amount of RAM being used, you have almost 20GB used of the 24 available. Do you use a RAMDisk or something like FancyCache? If not, can you account for the amazingly high usage of RAM?
Since this is a laptop, could you check your temperatures of your GPU and CPU? If you don’t already have software that monitors your CPU and GPU temperatures, then I would recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe
deleting the GW2cache worked, now the game has not had black screen since. i am ever so grateful Ashley Segovia.
Thanks for replying back about this and the end result. I’ll have to add this to my repertoire of fixes to suggest to people.
here’s the error in full
I would try and do a disk check to see if your hard drive is the problem. To perform a disk check go to ‘My Computer’ and right click on the hard drive that Guild Wars 2 is on. Click ‘Properties’ and a new window should pop up. In the new window, go to the ‘Tools’ tab and click the ‘Check now…’ button to begin the disk check. Follow the guide from there to finish the disk check.
Hello i accidentally sold an item to a vender that i thought could not be sold or traded and i was not aware of buy back until someone told me about it after it was too late. the item i sold was the gift of battle and i was wondering if there is anyway if I could get it back.
By getting 500 more Badges of Honor and another 50s, other than that it is unlikely ArenaNet will restore the item. You can always try with a support ticket and see what they say.
this morning but there was a similar problem on the launcher for about a week before hand.
Have you made sure your graphics drivers are up to date recently? Might want to do that:

I think it was the auto aim and attack, But I still can’t get an attack with the mouse button 1 or two. If I push both buttons at same time the character moves just like pushing w of w,a,s,d. I’m stuck
Just to clarify, mouse button 1 and 2 are what most people call, left click and right click, correct?
I’m not sure why this feature isn’t working with your setup. Perhaps a support ticket to ArenaNet could shed some light on whether this is a bug in the game with your specific hardware or some other freak accident. Perhaps deleting your local.dat file will resolve the issue. The local.dat file is located in your user documents inside a folder named something along the lines of Guild Wars 2.
Ok, seriously, I don’t get, I changed stuff such as postprocessing and shaders from low to high and the fps went UP, from 15 they passed to 25.
I’m not even sure the problem are the fps themself, I wouldn’t know how to explain it, for example: I’m running normally, and then at some point it’s like if my pg and the whole world would slow down for a second or two and then go back to the normal speed, if I’m using a speed buff it’s even worse.
It’s not like a lag, it really looks like if it is “slowed down”, I wouldn’t know how else to describe it.
It sounds as if the graphics card is switching between a low power state(s) and more full power state(s) randomly while you are playing the game. I would go make sure your laptop’s power settings are set to highest performance rather than power saver. Perhaps there are other settings in some Alienware bloatware that are also power saving and you might have to change those as well. I’m not familiar with what bloatware comes packaged with pre-built computers now a days.
