Everything is watercooled and running at stock speeds.
Currently winter here in Australia and I monitor my temps vigorously, nothing in my PC has tipped past 30C in a long time. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I’m not sure what else it could be, I would try sending ArenaNet a support ticket and see what they have to say on the matter. Most likely they’ll blame your ISP, but I’m curious to see what they say.

I cleaned thermal paste and reapplied with a new one I bought along with the fan, and when I check the temps while in the game, the GPU temperature is stable around 60 degrees celsius and the CPU is stable at around 55 degrees celsius.
Perhaps there is some other program running in the background that is taking up enough CPU to cause something like this every few minutes.
I am running windows 7 2.5 gb ram. The original client closes when the second one pops up.
I should have been more specific, Windows 7 64bit or Windows 7 32bit? What CPU do you have and what GPU do you have?

What’s up guys, noticed a lot of people are having this problem and have found no solution…
I get a random black screen and have to force close the gw2 process.
I constantly disconnect when I hop to another map and I cannot logout to the character select screen…
Sometimes when I waypoint to another map my loading screen flicks between the map I was on, and the one I’m going to a few times then the game just crashes.Things I have tried:
- Reinstalled it completely (even deleted cache folder in appdata)
- Reinstalled video card drivers
- Repaired directx
- Changed the anti aliasing mode in the nvidia settings
- Ran the NCSoft Game Advisor (attatched)
- Port forwarded my router
- Disabled AVG anti-virus
- I am running 2 GTX 570 cards in SLI which power 3 monitors ( I have tried to play with just one, still crashes)
- No other game has issues like this at allAs you can see I’ve basically tried everything under the sun to no avail…
If anyone has a fix for this it’d be greatly appreciated, it’s super frustrating and I just love the game to bits!If you need any more info, I will provide it.
Thanks in advance!
Just checking here, but you don’t overclock, do you? If so, set everything back to stock settings and try playing the game.
It may sound dumb, but lets make sure your temperatures on the CPU and GPU are alright. If you don’t already have software that monitors the GPU and CPU temperature, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:

Aren’t there other ways?
Yeah, instead of using auto detect, just manually search:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22628&keyword=HD3000&DownloadType=Drivers&lang=eng
So let me get this straight, you open the client to download the game, after 30 seconds another client pops up to download the game and then closes itself after 3 seconds? Does the original client also close or stay at 0KB/s?
Also, what computer specifications are you trying to run on and what operating system are you running on?

Screenshots attached below, upped the settings and FPS drop during battles.
As said above, the lower FPS is because of your CPU, everyone gets this, though with stock AMD you’re seeing it worse than people with overclocked processors or Intel processors due to Intel’s architecture having better single thread performance.

Hey James, what are you using to get your fps and temps as an overlay in-game? I want something that can do temps, because I plan to overclock my GPU some since I too am running into similar problems after purchasing a new GTX770. I found out that the GPU is my bottleneck so I want to get every bit of juice out of it that I can.
I seriously doubt the GTX 770 is your bottleneck. Maybe in other games, but not Guild Wars 2 unless you’re running a triple monitor setup at 5760 by 1080. Likely its your CPU that is your bottleneck with Guild Wars 2.

Yeah, it says you are running out of memory…what is the amount of RAM used when you’re playing Guild Wars 2 on your computer? With 8GB that is plenty normally, your graphics card (presumably having 2GB) should be enough as well. Perhaps you having a lot of other programs that need to be closed or some kind of malware using up a lot of memory. Check your memory usage before booting up Guild Wars 2 and after logging into Guild Wars 2.
Hmmm… so i’ll try it tommorow. I hope that it would help me to get FPS increase. My power supply is IBOX SL-8400BTX
Looks like a 400W power supply from what I can see on the translated pages from Google. Depending on the graphics card upgrade, you might need a new power supply as well.

Not sure how to post complete system specs, but I’ve played GW2 on medium-low settings for over 200 hours on this laptop prior to this sudden change.
Here’s some info though:
i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz; 8GB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M
Check and make sure your temperatures are within the limits of the GPU and CPU. If you don’t already have software that monitors the CPU and GPU temperatures, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:

Thanks for your reply. I know that my spec is very old but i don’t want to waste money on new computer while i’m going to buy new laptop in around 1-1.5 year because i’m going to study. So i’m trying just to play the game with at least low because graphic doesn’t really matter for me. I just want to have fun in this game with stable fps around 35-40 at 1440×900 or if it would be able at 1680×1050. And my power supply is (wait i have to open my PC)
Well the best you can do then is overclock your hardware, there are guides on how to do so online all over the place. Just realize that overclocking has the potential to lower the lifespan of hardware. While I have not encountered any issues with overclocked hardware going bad, others have.
With or without overclocking and regardless of graphic settings, you will see a decreased FPS in crowded areas like large WvW battles and large dynamic events simply because your CPU is a dinosaur.
that’s is so dumb, hope they fix that asap!
Get in line, some of us have been in line since before the game released…
In other words, don’t expect a solution any time soon since it would basically be a brand new engine for the game to run on.

Hi guys good day. Im having a problem during zerg at wvw I dunno why even i put it at the lowest settings, still my FPS drops at 15-20 “during zerg” and i just noticed that i only experiencing this when lots of people came to my screen.
Here’s my PC specs, i really appreciate for those who will give suggestion in this one…
Processor: AMD Athlon™ II X3 435 (3 CPUs), ~ 2.9GHz
Memory: 6,144MB DDR3 RAM
Video Card: GeForce 9800 GT 512mb (256 bit)
OS: Windows ultimate x64During normal worlds, I can max the full performance for gw2 without freezing having a45-60 FPS any suggestion hopefully the moderator on this page or any experienced technicians will give suggestion on this one
No offense but, you do realize how old your hardware is right? I’m assuming you’re running at a much lower resolution due to the graphics card you’re using in order to achieve those frame rates.
Anyways, likely its your CPU you see bottle necking your system which is why when you get to more crowded areas you’ll see your frame rate drop. The only solution really is to lower your settings that affect CPU usage (resolution included) to the lowest settings and see how that fares out.
If you hate playing at such kitten settings, you can be adventurous and overclock your processor to get a little boost in performance. Likely not enough to warrant too much attention to performance increase, but there will be some.
If you don’t want to try overclocking, you can upgrade your system. At that point, if you still want us to help, we can give advice about what parts to get and what performance you’ll get with said parts. For that, we’ll need a budget though so we can go window shopping for machines we wish we had. :p
Hello guys,
i am a new player that started today playing Guild Wars 2, i’ve bought it today.
Now i just reconized that everytime i create a new character the screen flickers blue.
The screen is everytime flickering blue. What can i do about this problem?
You can start by telling us what hardware you are running the game on that is causing said issue. You’ll want to make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. I can point you in the right direction if you let me know what graphics card and operating system you have/run on.
I am having a similar problem. I posted on a seperate thread. I just recently purchase a Nvidia 770 4GB video card and got zero performance increase, and this is at a relatively low 1680×1050 resolution:
Maybe I should have just purchased a better CPU instead and spent the rest on gems in-game, had I known…..grr. What is funny is that I can change the shadows and rendering from medium to high or supersampling and see no drop, but I cannot seem to get my fps over 20-30fps in certain areas. I will try to turning off the shaders and shadows all together tonight.
What kind of CPU should I be looking at to get a constant 45fps or better with my current specs and resolution?
You’ll want to overclock your CPU to get close to being able to do that. Since you have an 1155 motherboard, we’ll just say Haswell isn’t worth upgrading to. So this leaves the i5 3570K or the i7 3770K. The i7 is just a hyperthreaded version of the i5 giving you an additional 4 virtual cores which helps with truly multi-threaded tasks, like audio and video encoding. It’ll also help if you stream your gaming sessions, but if you just game, might as well stick with the i5 and overclock it to 4.5Ghz.
Even at 4.5Ghz on the latest hardware, you won’t see 45 FPS in places like large battles in WvW and large dynamic events. The game’s engine floods the CPU with stuff to do and top end hardware can’t keep up. The higher the overclock, the better the frame rate, but most people have said 4.5Ghz is the sweet spot for large WvW battles and large dynamic events where the CPU is really bottlenecking the game’s performance.

I’m planning on buying an ASUS N56VB-S4022H, and I was wondering whether it’ll be able to run GW2 smoothly or not. Here are the specs:
- Intel Core i5-3230M
- 2.6GHz-3.2GHz
- 6MB Cache Memory
- 4GB, can be upgraded up to 16GB.
- 750GB
- 7200RPM
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M, 2GB DDR3
- 1920×1080
- 15.6’’Thank you very much for the help!
You’ll need to help us out with some things in order to answer your question. What is your definition of smooth? What settings are you expecting to play at, and what FPS do you want to be able to get?
If we take into consideration for what I consider smooth and what want to play at; I want to play at highest settings besides reflections and supersampling at 45 or so FPS at 1080p. Will that computer be able to do it, nope.
What if i switched to windows 7 64 bits ? Will it solve my problem ?
It would help in the long run for sure. However, I doubt its the issue causing the problem here. 64-bit would allow you to use all 4GB of your RAM, which might help your system overall, a slight amount in terms of performance.
and lately when i attach my monitor to the card and restart the computer it simply doesnt do anything, it goes black. before it was working but now its not. ive upgraded the card from nvidia geforce 8600 gt to geforce 240 gt
You likely need a better power supply, like I hinted at before since you have a prebuilt system.
Also, while the GT 240 is an upgrade, you’re still playing on a super low end card from 4 years ago, so good luck running the game with halfway mediocre settings.

You sir just got unlucky. If something unexpected happens, like if your computer crashes or a power outage happens while Guild Wars 2 is updating/downloading, then there is a very high chance the game’s data will corrupt and need to be downloaded again. For the future, if this happens again. Create a backup of the gw2.dat file so that you can paste the backup gw2.dat file over the corrupted gw2.dat and patch up from wherever you left off with that backup.
Yes, deleting the local.dat files sets the resolution back to its default state, this should allow for you to use your TV as a monitor with Guild Wars 2. The local.dat file is located in the user’s documents Guild Wars 2 folder IIRC.
Laptop’s specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 2670QM (2.2 Ghz)
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 555m
HDD: 750 Gb(It’s an alienware M14x)
Anyways, my laptop can’t run GW2 really well even on the lowest settings which is running GW2 on 4-6 FPS (Which sucks a lot!!!). Also, when I played GW2 during and after it’s release, I can run GW2 on high on 30-40 FPS. So anyways, my question is: What happened?
Thanks!
I would make sure that your CPU and GPU temperatures are within their limits when under load. If you don’t already have software that monitors the GPU and CPU, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:

Hello all. I just recently replaced my GTX460 SLI setup with a single GTX 770 4GB card. I am only running it at 1680×1050, so I expected a huge increase in framerate. In LA I am still seeing a drop to 35fps and in battles it drops to ~24fps. This card should be able to handle 1980 or better. Is there something bottlenecking the video card or is it somehow not connected correctly or an options I forgot to set?
I have the following:
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (PCIE 3.0) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293
Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo)
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 × 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
Thermaltake W0106RU 700W Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version SLI Certified 80 PLUS Certified
SSD, Windows 7 64bitThe oldest component is my powersupply. Also does it make a difference if i use DVI-I over HDMI or visa versa? It is suspious that both the video card setups seem to have very similar framerates at each location. This makes me wonder if I’ve been bottlenecking the video card this whole time by something else in my setup or Bios.
The GTX 770 is a nice card, but Guild Wars 2 isn’t driven by a good graphics card, its very CPU dependent as well. So the bottleneck you are likely seeing is your CPU. Using DVI-I or HDMI shouldn’t affect your FPS.
Things to make sure of:
-Make sure the graphics card is in the slot closest to the processor on the motherboard.
-Download GPU-Z and make sure that it is running at a full x16 speed:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2252/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-7-2/mirrors
-Make sure the temperatures of both your CPU and GPU are within their limits when under load (playing Guild Wars 2). If you don’t already have software that monitors the CPU and GPU temperatures, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe
Your CPU temperatures are kinda close to their maximum, 6C away, so I would make sure your heat sink is cleaned, proper airflow is present, the heat sink is fully attached, and the thermal paste hasn’t gone bad over the years.
http://products.amd.com/pages/desktopcpudetail.aspx?id=586&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
As people have said above, I would suggest something similar, just in this order:
1) If you feel confident in learning how to overclock your CPU and don’t mind purchasing an aftermarket CPU cooler, I would overclock it. The primary reason being that your CPU is old and not giving you the desired performance in higher end gaming anymore. If you burn it out due to overclocking, no harm no foul, since the aftermarket cooler can likely be ported to a new computer system. Just make sure its compatible with socket AM3/AM3+ (AMD processors) and socket 1155/1150 (Intel processors).
2) The same can be said about your GPU, its so old that if you overclock it and it dies, its time to purchase a new one anyways. Just don’t buy an after market cooler for your GPU, it doesn’t need it since its maximum temperature is 100C or so, so you have plenty of headroom on your GPU temperature.
3) If you choose not to overclock or the overclocking has not given you desired results, then you need to purchase a new computer. I’m not sure if you’re the DIY kind of person or one who is willing to spend extra money to have it prebuilt and might not have the desired components. If you’re the DIY kind of person, the first order of business is upgrading your graphics card. A new graphics card will be compatible with your current system and a new system. So for now, we’ll only upgrade the graphics card and see what you think with the performance of the new card with the old processor. A few things that should be known before I can suggest something is what resolution do you game at? What level of graphic settings do you want to play at? What FPS do you expect to get with the graphic settings?
In addition, we’ll need to know what power supply you have so we can figure out if you’ll need a bigger/better one for a new graphics card.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
GW2 only uses 2 threads, so your best bet is just OCing your CPU as high as it will go. Although, a GPU upgrade could help if it’s being maxed out, but CPU is definitely more important.
No its not, it was using atleast 3cores last time I checked.
Indeed, Guild Wars 2 has more or less 50 threads it generates, however, only a few are really large and noticeable on the CPU usage. These few are the reason behind why you’ll see FPS drop in WvW and other large crowded areas of the game. They are too large for one CPU core to handle and bottle neck the game.

As title above shows I’m looking for a new desktop. The laptop i have used for the past 8 yrs has died. I know very little about computers so plan to have it built by a local pc store. The specs you see below are what they are recommending for my budget of 1k. I appreciate any advice you guys can provide.

i5-4570 3.2GHz

and nothing else is included like a power supply or DVD/CD/Blu-ray drive, your grand total without shipping and labor is: 789 (without rebate). So if you are fine spending 211 on shipping and labor (shipping can be free from Newegg if you make a trial account on shoprunner). If you know the ropes, Windows can be acquired for a decent price as well that involves four characters instead of triple digits. I’ll give you a hint, the first character is ‘f’ and the last two are ‘ee’, but even if you do include the 100 dollar cost of Windows, 111 on labor for at most 2 hours worth of work is kind of steep. If I got paid 30 bucks an hour (the rest going to profit for the shop) to build computers and install an operating system, sign me up.
If you plan on learning more about computers and building one yourself, you might want to consider a change. Instead of a 4570, get a 4670K. That way when you are adventurous enough to learn how to overclock, you have a processor that is easier to overclock and can achieve higher overclocks than the 4570.
(edited by Ilithis Mithilander.3265)
just did a quick search on my computer performance vs minimum specs for gw2 – I’m above min specs – maybe it’s time to update the minimum specs – because 3-8 fps with major lag spikes, is not playable.
Minimum specifications for a game don’t tell you how well the game will run on the respective system. It will only tell you the game will actually launch. To be playable, there are settings called ‘Recommended Specifications’, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a list here because there isn’t a system that will run the game at 60 FPS in 100+ man WvW battles.
Uhh, is your graphics card at 100% usage when the drop to 10ish FPS happens? If so, upgrade your graphics card. If not, overclock your processor. Other than that you can start petitioning to get a better engine created to run the game D=.
Oh, also make sure WvW character detail is set to lowest, and perhaps at that resolution you might need to enable culling.
Hello. I m currently on the look out for upgrading my rig since 2013 is going to be a good year for gaming AND the release of PS4 and Xbox 1 signifies the transition of pc ports to (finally) much better results in terms of graphics.
So, with no further ado here is what I m currently running on:
Motherboard – Asus P3Q SE/R
CPU – Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0 Ghz
RAM – 2 × 2048 DDR2 (I think corsair, but I can’t identify their model)
GPU – ATI Radeon HD 4800
Power Supply – Some brand I don’t even remember at 630W
Hard disk 1 – OCZ Vertex3 60GB (placeholder of OS and the essentials)Hard disk 2 – Seagate ST500DM002-9YN14C 500G (aka Seagate Barracuda but it’s probably refubrished or aftermarket or something like that. If you know for sure that this long – kitten name is an indicator of aftermarkets please verify)
Hard disk 3 – Seagate Freeagent 1GB (external)
With that being said, I m currently on a budget. There is about no way I ll give 1-2 thousand euros to build an ubber-rig that plays GW2 on ultra with 60 fps on a busy WvW night while cooking me pasta. All I really want it to do is give me a nice performance in new games and be able to keep up with new releases for the next couples years.
If there are solutions that will help me accomplish that without renewing certain parts I ll be a happy man for the next 10 seconds..!
On a side note, I know my CPU can be overclocked effectively and there are comparisons that put it in the same level as an I3. However I ‘ve never done that, and I don’t know if it’s worth it and what parts am I required to get in order to achieve this. If you can guide me through it, please feel free to do so.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ is a good place to start for putting up links of hardware and http://www.skroutz.gr/ is a search engine in my country that goes through online stores’ products.
Thank you in advance, and when we are done with this feel free to post your rig needs.
Who knows?! This might even go sticky.
Firstly, I doubt this thread will go sticky since there are countless other similar threads asking about upgrades and all the sorts. If you compile them together and get a general consensus of what people are saying to upgrade to, then that might get a sticky.
As far as PC ports for console games, I wouldn’t expect too much excitement on that end until 2014. If 2014 doesn’t show any good PC console game ports, I’ll doubt there will be as many as people suspect in this console generation lifetime. I however, do hope good PC ports are made due to the increased similarity between this generation’s architecture and the PC. It should be much easier, and hopefully AMD gets a solid boost as well since everything is under their roof for this console generation.
Personally, I don’t see overclocking doing much. If you overclock on your system, the ONLY thing I would consider purchasing is an after market CPU cooler. Something that sockets to both an LGA 775 and LGA 1150/1155 and AM3+ system so that it carries over to your new system when you do upgrade.
Some after market coolers worth noting are the Noctua NH-D14 as a high end air cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 as a budget after market air cooler, then Corsair’s H-series of all in one water coolers, like the H60. Of course there is the option of getting a custom water loop.
I would try overclocking and see how far that gets you and if that doesn’t make you happy then you’ll likely want to upgrade your graphics card next since that would carry over to your next computer as well.
One thing you didn’t mention is how many monitors you use and what resolutions they are. The higher the resolution the prettier the image but more horsepower required to run the game. Basically, the questions that need answering are the resolution you game at, the type of settings you wish to game at (low/med/high/mix) and what FPS you expect to get at those settings. Something like this will likely do, but I just want to make sure since one size doesn’t fit all:
http://www.skroutz.gr/s/3078865/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX650-Ti-Boost-2GB-OC.html
The 2GB of RAM (double the normal) is what I would recommend due to me running into troubles with some games at 1080p on only 1GB of RAM.
I’m not sure if the CPU or the GPU is your bottleneck, your GPU is pretty old though, so its a good time to upgrade. If that GPU doesn’t give you the performance you want, you have a CPU bottle neck which requires you to get a new CPU/motherboard/RAM.
http://www.skroutz.gr/s/3405078/Intel-Core-i5-4670K-Box.html
http://www.skroutz.gr/s/292410/Corsair-CLASSIC-XMS3-8GB-DDR3-2000-Hz.html
Then, the motherboard is more or less something that depends on the user’s needs. Whether you want to eventually overclock, etc. Just make sure its a socket 1150.

I’m unable to connect to the server after installing what looked to be a patch a few minutes ago. No error code, just one red line: “connection errors detected, retrying.” Restarting my computer does not solve it, nor does attempting to run the repair utility.
Connecting from Canada (east coast) to the NA server Sanctum of Rall.
Possible problems are that everyone is hammering the update server and can’t give out enough connections or that maybe you need to open some ports on your router that Guild Wars 2 requires to be open. Search around on the forums for the exact ports, I don’t remember off the top of my head.
My computer froze up with 60% of the game downloaded. Now when i launch the downloader, “Repairing archive data” comes up and the download has restarted.
How can i fix this? I’m not redownloading the entire thing, so that’s not an option.
Thanks.
If you won’t download the entire game again, then you better find someone who plays Guild Wars 2 who lives close to you so they can copy the game to a flash drive and let you borrow the flash drive to copy the game to your computer.
Your computer had something unexpected happen to it, whether it was a crash/lock up or some power outage. The game’s data file has a high risk of being corrupted during an unexpected event and requires to be downloaded again. When the game is done being downloaded I highly recommend that you make a backup of the gw2.dat file so that if this happens again when you are updating the game, you can simply paste the backup gw2.dat file over the old corrupted one and start updating the game instead of downloading the entire game again.
An observation. What do you make of this? Firstly, I ramped every graphical option up to maximum and took a screen shot of the resultant FPS – in case the image is too small, it reads 25FPS. This was taken in a WvWvW area near the Asura gates and turned away from any structure:
Next, I left the graphics settings as is and turned back towards the gates and towards some structures. In case you can’t read it, the FPS is 9.
To me, it looks like some increase in bandwidth to display structures has increased. Would that be a fair point?
Cheers.
Likely to do with the fact you are practically staring at the ground in the first picture and away from everyone and everything that your computer has to render in the second screenshot.
I’m not really a new player, but haven’t made it to max lvl or higher content. Reason being is i couldn’t find any friends to play with. Right now i don’t really care atm. I was just curious as to which server i should join? Anybody got a guild thats willing to welcome me into a family? I just want people to play with
This probably would warrant better reception in the Guilds sub-forum. However, I happen to be part of a nice guild: Select Few [SF], we’re on Fort Aspenwood. Our website is here:

I’m puzzled how you even played on your graphics card. I wouldn’t expect anything to run that doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. I would also like to take the time to point out that the processor you plan to get is more of a side-grade component, you’ll get less than twice the performance of your current processor likely. Twice of a little is still a little. If you’re tight on budget than you should still consider AMD and not Intel.
I would wait and save for a computer worth getting. Something like the FX-4300 on an AM3+ motherboard is something you should shoot for for low budget gaming systems. Then, you can hop on a GTX 650Ti Boost or something similar.
Thanks for the tips. I was hoping to just get that CPU as a placeholder until I upgraded to something nicer, but now I’m thinking that may not be a good idea. If I’m going to upgrade, I might as well do it right. I can play the game now with what I have, so I can wait a little longer. I will be sure to take a look at AMD as well. Thanks for the tip.
I just see the 50 dollar celaron as more of a waste than anything. You are right, you can upgrade to a nicer processor, like the i5 3570K or i7 3770K, but those are some costly upgrades AND not the latest from Intel anymore. The 1155 socket dies with Ivy Bridge and the birth of the 1150 socket came with Haswell. So your upgrade path is very limited on the Intel side.
The upgrade path is much nicer on the AMD side with an AM3+ socket. The FX-4300 is only a quad core, but you can upgrade to a FX-6300 (hex core) or FX-8320 (or FX-8350) for an octa core processor. Then, down the road AMD has plans for an FX-9320 and FX-9350 which are buffed up versions of the FX-8320 and FX-8350 respectively. In addition to that, the next incremental architecture upgrade will still use the AM3+ socket.
I drink the Intel Kool-aid, but its hard not denying the limits of the sockets on Intel chipsets. I’ll likely always buy Intel since I’ll make sure I have money for it upfront without upgrading because by the time I need to upgrade I’ll have to buy a new motherboard because the socket and chipset have changed. Unless AMD dethrones the single thread performance crown Intel holds, I’ll stick with Intel. However, for people who need cheap and decent computers with potential upgrade paths, AMD wins.
I encountered the same problem last year, the problem was that I had a bad stick of RAM. I recommend checking each stick of RAM by only using one stick at a time and testing to see if memtestX86 fails and if you encounter the same problem with each stick of RAM.
Last night I was playing Guild Wars when my internet cut out for no real reason. The downtime was about one minute but when It had come back up and I tried to launch the game it logged me in, launched, then just sat at the white screen that pops up before character select until I clicked somewhere and then it would freeze. It would not crash so that I could send a report, also when I finally would manage to get to task manager to get the process closed, it would terminate the actual visual but the process would linger and not leave until I rebooted. I did this about three times in addition to resetting my router but no luck.
Then this morning (The past few hours) When I tried to launch once more, after resetting the router, the login screen pulled up and began to patch. It was going well until about 30% into the patch when it froze and would not patch anymore. So naturally I closed it out to try to restart it so it could finish patching (The process actually vanished this time) but when I restarted it, it froze before it could even log me in. Then once more I would eventually terminate it, the process would linger and I would restart the computer and the router.
I finally managed to uninstall it and am currently reinstalling it. I have done a full scan of my computer and found no issues as well as made sure that it has enough CPU to run. Does anyone have any suggestions or a solution? Because I’m out of ideas.
Run a check disk on your hard drive. Maybe the hard drive done kittened up a little bit and screwed up the installation of the game which required you to either do a -repair or download it all again. If this reinstall does not work, then run a check disk to make sure the hard drive is fully intact.
Since a few days ago i have had to open my ports to get into lions arch. Is this a problem on my end or arenanets? I have been playing the game for the past year without opening them.
The problem with lions arch that ive been having is a never ending loading screen, i have a good internet connection. 65 mb dl 15 up. 25 ping 0 packet loss 1 to 0 jitter.
Having certain ports open is on your end. Do you get the never ending loading screen with the ports open? If so, then you have a problem. If they’re closed though and you have the never ending loading screen issue, you have to have them open irregardless of what settings you were using previously. You were simply lucky before
Right now I am playing GW2 on its lowest settings with my amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 5000+, and Geforce 8400 GS, and 4 GB of ram. From what I understand (using http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ as a reference), my graphics card is below the official “minimum requirements”. The game is playable, but sometimes lags and takes a while to load.
I am looking to upgrade my computer, but saving funds for this endeavor is a slow process. I have enough to get a new mobo, and the intel celeron g1610 processor. Unfortunately, the new mobo doesn’t have the right slot for my video card. The processor, from what I understand, runs Intel HD 2500 graphics, which is also below the requirements. But I have heard is better than my current graphics card.
What I am wondering, is does anyone have experience running the game with Intel HD 2500 graphics? I want to know if I should upgrade a few parts now to improve my gaming experience, or wait until I can save enough to get a new video card along with the other parts.
I’m puzzled how you even played on your graphics card. I wouldn’t expect anything to run that doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. Wow, thanks for really informative answers!
Two buddies of mine have third generation i3 and i5 mobile processors with Intel HD 4000. They play at medium with good frame rates.
Core i3 with HD4000 integrated?
These are minimum requirements. My PC also meets minimum requirements (core 2 duo, nvidia GTS450, 2GB ram) but GW2 runs just terribly (35fps max, 15-20 lion’s arch, unplayable in WvW and bigger events).
You know, i do not have high expectations. Other games I want to play are dota2 and diablo3. Maybe, for example, an ultrabook with core i3 and 4-6gb of ram would be enough to run smoothly on low?
My next question is if it is possible to play games on these laptops on external monitors? I have fullHD monitor from my PC. Do you think amd hd7670 is able to run games in this resolution?
I can’t speak for how well other games will run on the hardware, but an i3 with 4-6GB of ram isn’t much to go on. I’m assuming we’re talking about using Intel’s HD 3000 or 4000 which are slightly above the minimum requirements to play the game. You’ll be able to launch the game, but playing smoothly is a different answer. What to you is smoothly in FPS? 30? 60?
Assuming the resolution you haven’t mentioned for this desktop monitor is 1080p, it likely won’t go over very well with the 7670. You’ll be forced to play on lower settings and it’ll be a toss up whether its your GPU or your CPU being the limiting factor. Your CPU is more critical in more crowded areas like Lions Arch, WvW battles, and large dynamic events. Out in normal PvE the CPU is used less and the GPU becomes the limiting factor.

@ilithis and @Kyllaa well thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. However, it looks like it isn’t going to work.
Eh, I’m not done trying to fix it yet. What are your computer specifications? Lets start from the bottom and see if we can’t find a problem. Main things are the GPU, CPU, and RAM capacity and speeds.
I downloaded the HWMoniter you told me about
Processor- Intel i7-2670QM CPU @2.20 GHz
Ram- 8 GB
System- 64 bit
Graphics- When I run the diagnostic tool it says I am using integrated graphics but that doesnt make sense. I should be running a GeForce Gt550M i believe. I hope this helps. Thanks once again!Hmm, well that MIGHT be a problem, not related to not being able to play, but still a problem. You should be able to set which graphics module you are using in BIOS. If not in BIOS then there might be some Intel graphics utility that allows you to swap between the two when you are booted into windows. Your best friend for this would be Google.
What are your GPU and CPU temperatures while idle and while the game has been running for 10 minutes?
Ok well I have been traveling and my computer has been off for a while. Right after turning it on it was at 111 degrees F after a few minutes it maxed out at 134. After playing the game however it maxed out at 185! Is this the problem. Also how do I access BIOS?
185F isn’t bad, when converted to Celsius its only 85C, which is under load and you are on a laptop. Although, anything much higher and I would start to worry. 85C is what I regard as close to the safe max limit. I like to leave myself 10C+ so that if my fan dies, I have time to kill the computer before it over heats. When you get close to boiling water, around 90-95C, is when I consider something wrong and needs cleaning.
To enter BIOS, restart your computer and before Windows or whatever operating system boots up you’ll want to repeatedly smash ‘Delete’ on your keyboard until the BIOS screen comes up. ‘Delete’ is normally the key used to get to the BIOS screen before the computer boots to a consumer operating system, sometimes it might be an ‘f#’ key. Once in BIOS, you can change a bunch of settings for the computer, one of them might be which GPU the laptop uses primarily, either the discrete GPU or the GPU embedded with the CPU.
Either of those cards will work, neither would I recommend for Guild Wars 2 because they are overkill. If you plan on playing other games they will be good, but Guild Wars 2 is more CPU dependent in some areas than GPU dependent. You would see a huge FPS increase in areas of the game that are not large WvW battles or large dynamic events because those areas of the game are more CPU dependent than GPU dependent.
Well, the thing is, my CPU is at 4ghz and before the 2nd July update everything ran fine. I’ve now had to change some of the settings but in LA, I can only move around @ a max of 7-12 fps with “best performance” selected.
Are you saying that 4ghz doesn’t cut it any more?
Nope, I’m not saying that because that is new information you have brought to the thread. I am not familiar with the performance you were getting before, I was simply answering the question you posed. 4Ghz on an antiquated architecture like our own is not going to cut it for large WvW battles and large dynamic events. Our FPS will suffer more than those with an updated architecture, like ivy bridge and haswell.
However, your FPS that you stated is quite low for what your hardware spec is. Perhaps checking your thermals would be a good place to start.
Any of my characters that are parked in LA I can not log into. The loading screen comes up but the Map Completion data at the bottom of the loading screen never appears and it continues to try to load until it times out and disconnects me. I can log into any character that is parked outside of LA fine, but when I try to zone into LA with them I get the same problem.
I have ran a repair, I have deleted my local.dat file, I have tried guesting to a different server besides my own (TC), I have flushed my DNS, I have changed my DNS, I have sat here trying over and over and over (it’s been about an hour and a half of troubleshooting now), and without fail I can not log into LA, rendering any of my characters who are parked there unplayable.
This is the error I get upon timing out from the LA load every time:
“Network Error. The inability to connect to Guild Wars 2 may be caused by internet routing issues or a server network failure.
If the problem persists, please visit our support website. (Code=5:11:3:159:101)”What else can I do? What is going on?
While I have no idea what is going on, the only thing left to do is make a support ticket for ArenaNet to respond to and see how they can help.

So in my Windows 7 Installation, I’ve moved my User folder off my ssd because I download a ton of crap there and I didn’t want all that temp crap taking up my SSD. But now I have the gw2 cache there and I would prefer that on the SSD for performance reasons.
Help me, ArenaNet. You’re my only pope.
Let me know if you ever hear a response about this. I have a similar setup as yours and would be interested in this change as well.
Your almost Star Wars reference was good. I don’t think popes were around though.
Well lets get some computer specifications and see what we can’t figure out.
You should also make sure your GPU and CPU are not overheating, if you don’t already have software that monitors your CPU and GPU, then I recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe
I have this mobo:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/
I’m currently running a Radeon 5970 GPU. Can the above take a 7990 or a Titan and, if so, could I see a significant FPS increase?
Other specs:
i7 980x @ 4ghz (cooled on air)
6 MB DDR3 @800mhz RAM (9-9-9-24)
C: drive 10K Velociraptor
D: 60gb SSD (Crucial C300 and this is where GW2 resides)
Corsair 1K PSU
Corsair Obsidian 700D case
Creative Titanium Fatal1ty Champion
Win7 64bit Pro SP1 OEM
Couple of optical drives
Couple of extra Apache 120mm fans
Either of those cards will work, neither would I recommend for Guild Wars 2 because they are overkill. If you plan on playing other games they will be good, but Guild Wars 2 is more CPU dependent in some areas than GPU dependent. You would see a huge FPS increase in areas of the game that are not large WvW battles or large dynamic events because those areas of the game are more CPU dependent than GPU dependent.
….i had to run chkdsk after restart which showed everything as fine.
I tried re-updating gw2 and it made me redo the entire gw2 even though my .dat file has 18+gb in it
So i -repair the gw2 file and it still made me install the entire game again
So, what happened?
So, you computer had something unexpected happen when the game was updating whether it crashed/hanged or there was a power outage. When this happens, its highly likely that the game’s data becomes corrupted and requires a full download. I highly recommend to make a back up of the game when you have downloaded it so that if this happens in the future, you can simply paste your backup over the old gw2.dat and update from whenever the last time the back up file was updated instead of downloading the entire game again.
Interesting. Are you still on Windows 7 or did you reinstall 8?
I’ve actually been swapping between the two very often and what I’ve noticed is windows 8 is a RAM kitten. It’s also as I mentioned completely useless when it comes to running games. Might as well be running games on a macbook. It would suck just as much. I was thinking of dual booting since I’m switching so often. If I do, when the new windows updates come out, (which are basically a reversion to windows 7. lol oh you so funny microsoft), I will test the game and update.
Oh yeah and I’m considering overclocking for that individual core speed increase. My idle temperature is 35 right now so I’m a bit worried but I might just try it anyways.
Considering we have the same processor and you have a better CPU cooler than my own, I can help you with overclocking and perhaps provide some tips for what I did to get my 4.1Ghz. With my high voltage setting, I see temperatures around 50-55 C in summer and a little lower in winter. Then under loads like Guild Wars 2, the cores being used see around 70-75 C. So 35C idle isn’t bad at stock everything.
