PC Build...Thoughts?

I think that build would do fine. I would just recommend a 660ti instead of the normal 660.

Get a GTX 760, not a GTX 660Ti. The GTX 660Ti has been phased out as of yesterday.

Usually when you see artifacts and weird textures its a sign that the graphics card needs some help. Try installing the latest drivers, if that doesn’t fix it, make sure the graphics card isn’t over heating inside your case. If you don’t already have software that monitors the temperatures of your CPU and GPU, I would recommend grabbing HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe
If your thermals are alright, then I would try reseating your graphics card inside your case and making sure all the extra power cables are attached in a secure manner.

Nope, but a potential solution is to guest to another server on your thief just to see if that fixes your loading problem. If it does work, try getting to another map and then you can log off and go back to your home server.

Since last patch: 99% GPU load / FPS lags

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

99% GPU usage is normal if you don’t have a frame cap or V-sync enabled and don’t already hit your frame cap or 60FPS for V-sync. 99% GPU usage doesn’t harm your card, using your card to its fullest isn’t a bad thing unless you’re getting subpar performance expected from your graphics card at which point its a problem with the game. The things that damage your card are excessive temperatures and voltage which are usually culprit of a poorly cleaned system or overclocking.

CPU optimization

Behellagh as i said above I know that the game uses only 3 hearts.
Here I ask if they want to use more hearts (4/8) to better optimize cpu?.

GW2 runs on the original GW engine which was made back in 2005 or earlier. For them to make it run on more cores would require a totally new engine.

Which in turn means mo money and mo time. Neither, which I think, NCSoft want to give ArenaNet more of right now.

Simple question about changing processor

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

I wouldn’t upgrade for Guild Wars 2, the higher end hardware simply just doesn’t justify the cost/performance for this game since high end hardware doesn’t scale well with certain parts of the game. I’m not sure what frame rate you get right now, but the 3930K and other processors of its kind won’t be using all their cores to play Guild Wars 2. You’ll be lucky to see a quad-core max its resources out on Guild Wars 2.

Now if you do a lot of video/audio encoding and stream yourself while playing the game, then it might be worth it depending how much non-gaming you do. Just for the game though, no.

In addition to that, if you are running OSX and using the Guild Wars 2 Mac Beta client, I hear it runs worse than the native Windows client because of the wrapper around the client to get it to run in OSX. There are some people around here that do play on the Mac client, but from what I have seen, some would rather run a dual-boot setup or something similar.

Hi everyone, this issue is a little difficult to explain. I will try my best.

This is more of a minor issue, and im not sure if it is the result of gw2 or other software interaction. I play in windowed fullscreen all the time, as i have dual monitors this makes switching so easy. but lately ive noticed that if im playing gw2 for a while ( i honestly have no idea of a time frame) the only things i can get to show up on my primary monitor with gw2 are gw2 and the taskbar.

Ive tried dragging windows over from the second monitor, and they immediatly disappear, even though they are being shown as the active window. Ive had limited success with show desktop hotkey (win + d) though sometimes it takes multiple presses to minimize gw2, then i can pop open a window, but always with gw2 in the background which is fine. what usually happens then, when i reactivate the cllient window, the only way to bring those windows back up is to force hide everything to desktop. Restarting the client always seems to fix this, but sometimes needing to do this comes at awkward times.

This doesnt always happen and i havent been able to notice any pattern to its occurrence hence the difficulty of explaining it. it has no affect on the secondary monitor. the only software i have running, that im aware of, that modifies the settings of display windows is Display Fusion which ive had running since i first installed the game.

I’ll have to test to see what you are talking about when I get home. I too run dual-screens and Display Fusion, but I haven’t played Guild Wars 2 in a while. I’ll post back with results of moving windows across the screen.

It seems as if the window you are dragging to your main monitor is somehow loosing focus. Mine doesn’t do this and I can’t replicate it no matter how long I am on for (minutes to hours). Perhaps submit a bug report to ArenaNet and see what they have to say on the matter.

Thx SolarNova.1052 for explanation. I will only buy graphic card for now. So is this: SAPPHIRE HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB GDDR5 maybe better choice then AMD 7770 or should i go for Nvidia 650ti like you told? And yes you are right i need something good or average with low cost.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1159&lid=1&pid=1452

Personally the lowest card I would buy for gaming on Guild Wars 2 is a GTX 650Ti like SolarNova mentioned. I bought my siblings this card and they run a dual-monitor setup (play the game on a single monitor though) at 1600×900 while maintaining a mix of medium-high settings while getting around 30FPS in town and more like 45FPS outside in Gendarran Fields.

Airflow aint the problem cuz with side case off temp stays the same. Got it for 1 year now and my screen never flics or anything. Il just fry this card up and upgrade to an gtx 660

Hahaha, that’s one way to justify getting a new card, or you can reapply the thermal paste between the heat sink and the GPU itself to lower the temperatures. Alternatively, you can buy an aftermarket cooler for your GPU and use that instead of the stock cooler you’re likely using.

In addition to that you can down clock the card (not what people want to hear), to reduce the voltage and frequency to lower the temperature.

You may want to take a gander at the Filter Keys option in windows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FilterKeys

This is great but I do not want to use this I want to turn off the que in game. It is a useless addition to the game mostly for people on low end pc’s and internet speeds to make up for there lag by implementing a que. I build my own pc’s and i do not have lag issues. I run the game at 200-400 fps and I have a T1 business internet connection(for just myself).

I just want to know how to disable the que.

I appreciate the timely response though

You might want to start a suggestions thread about adding this feature in the suggestions sub-forum. There is no in-game option to turn this off.

It does not lag in PvE (25~30fps best appearance)

Help? I asked the game-debate.com dudes and they said it shouldn’t lag

The game-debate.com dudes obviously don’t play Guild Wars 2 WvW. It’s likely a CPU bottleneck as others have said. Time to get a new CPU if you don’t want to play at those frame rates.

How do i disable cutscenes ?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

cutscenes are really only necessary the first time you run an instance.

since you have to grind for gear / tokens, you really should be able to disable them for an instance after you’ve run story mode.

it gets in the way and can cause deaths, since adds are still present when cutscenes begin.

even offering a way to quickly cancel them would be great, although preventing them altogether would be preferable.

This is turning into more of a suggestions thread at this rate. Nice necro btw…

HD5870 FPS issues

Posted by: Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

It’s not a laptop though, it’s a desktop GPU and I’ve done almost everything to try to fix this and it’s seriously starting to annoy me…

So far I’ve tried:
- Repairing GW2
- Deleting local.dat
- Updating drivers
- Checking other intensive games to see if my GPU is broken (it’s not)
- Tried the absolute lowest of settings (38 FPS average)
- Tried the absolute highest settings (20 FPS average)
- Tried the auto-detect feature (20 FPS average, all High)

I’m starting to think it’s because of horrible optimization. If this is the case I’ll just play another game because this is quite saddening.

My CPU is an i7 920 clocked at 2.67 GHz and is not the bottleneck (never above 25% usage while playing)

First things first, FPS varies a lot depending where you are. A reliably controlled area would be to run out of LA to the North in Gendarran Fields and check your FPS there.

A CPU bottleneck will occur well before your CPU reaches 100% utilization, welcome to the Guild Wars 1 engine. Guild Wars 2 only has less than a handful of heavily used threads resulting in performance caps on an 8 thread processor of around 50% give or take some percentage. Never seeing above 25% utilization worries me because I wonder if something isn’t wrong with your hardware. My CPU generally shows an overall utilization of greater than 50% when playing Guild Wars 2 and I just have a higher clocked version of your processor (much higher clocked).

I would check to see your GPU and CPU temperatures are still in the green. If you don’t already have software that monitors these temperatures, then I recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.22-setup.exe

ArenaNet has been stating that they have been releasing performance patches which means that they’re possibly tossing more CPU code to the GPU instead which could be why an older GPU like yours is seeing its age now.

Kyllaa – yeah i got that thanks :P

Ashley – thanks for the reply. Any chance you could expand a little on that? Or if anyone else could? I’ve never had to repair CRCs before, and its on my OS drive so cant really move it elsewhere, at least not easily

A CRC check is simply just making sure the data got to you without any modifications due to transitioning from where ever it was to your hard drive. The only way to fix it is to redownload the game. Sometimes though the hard drive has a bad sector that corrupts the data thus making the CRC fail. Perform a disk check by doing the following:
Open ‘My Computer’
Right-click the hard drive Guild Wars 2 is on and click ‘Properties’
A new window opens, go to the ‘Tools’ tab
In the first section of this tab is a section labeled ‘Error-checking’ hit the button labeled ‘Check now…’
A new window pops up, check both boxes and hit ‘Start’

Asus P8Z77 motherboard
1000W PSU
2x 256 GB SSD
2x 3TB HDD
Creative Recon3D
32GB DDR3 1600MHz Quad Channel memory
46" 1080p/24 LEDTV

I can run in 3D mode with 24/25 FPS (take note that is the highest FPS I can get while in 3D mode due to the Hz, the FPS also does not drop below that.)
But I have lately been running in fullscreen window mode, due to a second monitor connected. But my frames are always 60-100+ I’ve never seen anything below 60 frames, even in the largest of WvW battles.

Vids then please becouse no1 has been able to show fps like that in wvw zergs.

still worth it though, software will eventually evolve ……when they do take advantage of the additional threads then its like a free upgrade lol – so for long term I still like that chip – everything above that seems to be a small increase and not really worth it. although some of them have some advanced technologies in them. but I guess those will lower in price as we figure out how to make quantum computers heh ….. to think in 5 years the highest specs now will look like a beeper :x

I agree, I hopped on the LGA 1366 platform for the higher end processors and will hop up to the 2011 platform come Haswell-E (if I can last that long). However, we don’t know if he/she can salvage anything from their current build and having something as nice as the 3930 laying around would make me cry if their budget is only 1k.

I appreciate that information, Ilithis! I have a better understanding of what’s probably going on now. Thank you.

So it sounds like I basically need to just work on OCing this thing until I make the move to a newer-gen processor. If I can get this CPU to work well with GW2 I may not worry about upgrading the CPU until the next line is released.
I will look into those coolers you mentioned — although I’m scared to mess with water cooling lol, if I go that route it will be because I convinced a buddy of mine that has worked with that stuff before to help me. :p

Good to know what kind of performance you’re getting with your card, gives me an idea of what to expect from the 660Ti.

Wish I would have known this stuff before building this PC lol, I probably would have coughed up the extra cash for an intel CPU or the 8320/8350. But ah well. Guild Wars 2 really is the only game that I have trouble with so this hardware isn’t a complete loss I suppose.

About water cooling…custom water loops are really the only thing you have to worry about messing up. My H50 has been in use ever since the summer of 2010 (working on 3 years come July 18th) and have moved 5 times now (thanks to being in college). Never had I leaked anything anywhere, its a very solid design and I can only imagine they have gotten better over the three years I have had mine. Basically you attach the pump and metal (normally copper) block to the CPU following the instructions provided with the unit. Then bolt the radiator and fan somewhere. I like to think I have stressed mine more than the average user since I have a unique setup where I have the tubes in an ‘S’ bend and the radiator is attached to the side of the case that allows me access to the inside of the computer. So whenever I’m inside the computer I have to open the side of the case like you would a hood of a car. I have only taken off the copper block once and that was because I thought I needed to repaste from the default paste provided by Corsair. I only gained a couple of C in doing so. I’ll be taking it off again come mid July lapping my processor and H50.

If he’s interested only in gaming, a faster Phenom II quad core is better than a slower Phenom II hex core. The GTS 450 puts it in the same ballpark as an HD 7750.

I’m going to assume you simply forgot to mention the RAM.

I would assume the HD 7750 has more horsepower than the GTS 450 judging from the following post.

Well, I don’t think those small errors affect my pc, but I have a modem. NetCom. My network card is named Atheros AR8121/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller. It is my adapters, etc. It says that Winwows can not download the required drivers for this unit. (Code 31) I found those errors on the device management. I don’t know what those errors can cause, but I want to fix those still. I click on the “Search after solutions” button, but then it shows up "Could not load driver software.of searching, the page closes and then I am back on the “Device management” tab. I live in Norway. I have another question. Since I have a Windows Vista 32-bit I can’t seem to find the Anti-aliasing. I have read on some forums that I need to disable it since I cannot play the game ArcaniA Gothic 4 beacuse of the Anti-aliasing. I think I need to go on the Catalyst Control Center, but I don’t know where to go next.

So we need to figure out what adapter you actually have. Go into ‘Device Manager’ and expand ‘Network Adapters’. Give me a list of the objects in here. Then we can update all your drivers manually.

I think this is where we’ll need to go but I want to make sure:

Select your proper OS and the download should begin shortly. Hopefully that works…

Besides the ancient, barely gaming graphics card and a lack of RAM, its an alright machine.

If you can push that graphics card to a GTX 650Ti Boost you would love yourself much more since you can then push most of the graphical settings to a higher value on a 1080p resolution. That and you can SLI two of these cards together in the future for when he/she wants to upgrade. In addition, you’ll want to grab an AM3+ motherboard, not an AM3 motherboard so that you can eventually upgrade the processor to something like an FX 8350.

I would recommend getting 4GB of RAM @ 1600Mhz+ to start, upgrading to 8GB total in the future.

The GTS 450 will likely play things on a mix of low and medium setting for GW2 on a 1080p resolution.

Everything else looks alright for a budget build.

Hm… I did some twisting on the “option” in gw2 before joining the server and now I can see the things in this game, but I don’t trust that. I want to solve the other problems. I’ve noticed that my network card have some errors. There are some problems with the adapters which I cannot solve.

Well, I found out that Subway by me is still just an alright place to go to lunch. Your graphics card is quite old, even if it was the top end 4800 card. However, that also meets the minimum requirements, so we’re all clear there. On such an old card, I wouldn’t run the game at the prettiest looking settings. It sounds like you ‘fixed’ your graphical problems by changing the settings to presumably lower values.

Now you speak of other errors, lets investigate those. What type of errors is your network card having, what type of internet connection do you have (broadband, satellite, etc.)? Who is your provider? Where is your physical location, don’t give your street address, just the country (there are a lot of people over in EU that are having connection issues with Guild Wars 2 servers)?

What adapter problems are you having, can you go into more detail?

Computer build for WvW high+ settings 60+fps?

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

this is the highest performing cpu according to benchmarks under $1,000

Intel Core i7-3930K @ 3.20GHz
list price – $583.00

this is the board you get for it…
ASUS Rampage II Extreme Republic of Gamers – Motherboard
List Price: 409

you only need 4 gigs of ram because gw2 is 32 bit. – corsair

and everyone is raving about a solid state drive.

then you need a good cooling system, for the cpu since you may have to overclock it.
about another 150

a case …about 100 – depending on what you want.

a 650+ watt powersupply

you don’t need an ubber video card, so you can go with a GTX 460 for 100 or titan for 1.2k

Well I’m going to assume he is going to need a whole new system, not just the CPU and motherboard.

If I were you, I would get the i5 4670K or if you don’t want to ever overclock (required for WvW though to get anywhere near the framerate you want) the non-K version. If you plan on streaming your gameplay or doing a lot of video and audio encoding, I would grab an i7 4770K instead of the i5.

Buy a motherboard that suits your needs, I recommend brands from ASUS and Gigabyte.

I wouldn’t get anything more than say 8GB @ 1600Mhz or higher speed.

Your graphics card, if you want to play at 1080p and highest settings, I wouldn’t get anything less than a GTX 660Ti if you want 60FPS in the places in Guild Wars 2 that people can actually get 60FPS in.

Currently 60 FPS in WvW is only possible if you manage to avoid everyone else playing WvW. You would be the ninja in the night stealing camps at 60FPS but in the real battles you’d be the marine in the open jacking camps at 25-30 FPS. Even on the best machines you simply can’t get rockin’ framerates while in big battles in WvW.

Well, If I am supposed to take a screenshot of this I ain’t that sure. Beacuse almost everything here is on Norwegian. And the only display tabs that shows up is: “System,” “Screen,” “Sound 1,” “Sound 2,” Sound 3" and “input.”

Well I’m not sure why it asks you about your audio stuff. That is a different problem altogether.

It shouldn’t matter if the language of Norwegian is not English, numbers are the same and Nvidia and AMD/ATI are more or less universal. It might be the difference between Windows 7 and Windows Vista, or maybe because I’m running multiple displays which is why I have ‘Display 1’ and ‘Display 2’ while you have ‘Screen’. I’m assuming the information we need is inside ‘Screen’. Either take a screenshot of ‘Screen’ or type out the information displayed on the ‘Screen’ tab.

Alright, I’ve suggested this in the past and no one ever confirmed if this ever works. I’ve never tried it myself since I haven’t been in your situation yet, it just seems like something that might work.

Start by guesting to another server and login to the ‘stuck’ character. If it succeeds, then make sure to travel to another map somewhere else and then you can log out to get back on your home server. Then, hopefully you can log back in on your home server on your previously ‘stuck’ character and try getting back to the map where your character was previously ‘stuck’.

Hehe, what is GPU? I can’t seem to find it.

Judging from the age of your processor I’m going to take a stab and guess you’re running Windows XP. Confirm this as well for us since we might need this later anyways.

Hit the start button, click ‘Run…’
A new window pops up and you want to type in ‘dxdiag’ without the quotes which opens a new window
Go to the ‘Display 1’ tab and give us the ‘Name’ of the device in the ‘Device’ section of the screen. Or better yet, just take a screenshot of that window and post it. I’m not sure if the ‘Name’ will give us what we need since I’m running on a laptop and don’t have a discrete graphics card like you do since you have a desktop.

hey guys

i bought the game yesterday and of course there are was many many updates after the launch
1-so the game cant be playable without some of the updates ?
2-and icant know how many GB still to download how can i know
because i got a really bad connection .
3-if the PC turned off while downloading it will restart again ?

thank you for reading and i hope to get an answer

Correct, the game cannot be played without being fully updated.

See Kyllaa’s post about how much left you have to download.

This last question can go down one of two ways. If the PC turns off from a power outage or some other interruption that is unexpected, then you might have to start the download all over again because of corrupted data. If your PC turned off in a controlled manner, than the launcher will likely just have to check all your existing files you have downloaded already and then the launcher will continue downloading the rest of the updates.

I’m trying to determine if your computer meets the minimum requirements, your processor passes but I’m not sure about your graphics card.

In addition, I want you to check your CPU and GPU temperatures while playing the game. If you don’t already have software that checks the GPU and CPU temperatures, then I would recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:

– What is the exact crash that is happening?

Thank you for your support.

Nice necro!

Judging from what you attached to your post, you’re getting an out of memory error. A few things that have been known to help are:
-Make sure nothing else is running except Guild Wars 2
-Lower your graphical settings
-Buy more RAM and a 64bit operating system

By file check, I’m going to assume you meant the files for Guild Wars 2. To do this you will need to add the repair switch to the shortcut you use for Guild Wars to. Follow the instructions here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
to get the desired results.

I can’t speak for the performance you are seeing or what you should be getting because I don’t have any experience with Bulldozer processors. I imagine it should be slightly more than that. I’m assuming you’re in combat in WvW with about 100 other people duking it out as well. These battles do take their toll on your system and because of this, modern day CPUs just can’t handle the load given to them. 4.2Ghz is a respectable overclock, but given your processor’s single thread performance the lower frame rate is to be expected, maybe not that low, but in the 15-20 range for sure. I for sure can’t really do much better than 20-25 in battles that I mentioned above with my processor.

Suggestions:
Push that overclock some more and lower the texture settings from whatever you have them set to to the absolute minimum allowed, its what I do. Then, I have the maximum setting for visible characters, but you might need to step this one down a notch and see how well it performs.

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Firstly, posting this in the Tech Support thread would give you much more and much faster advice than this sub-forum for this topic.

Secondly, I’m going to assume you have an older computer to grab the useful spare parts from.

CPU: i7- 4770K ~ 280 (if you live close to a Microcenter) otherwise 350.
ASUS/Gigabyte Motherboard Socket 1150 (pick what you need on the board and make sure you have enough space for future expansion) ~ 75+
GPU: GTX 770 ~ 400
8GB of DDR3 1600Mhz+ RAM ~ 80+

At this point you might need a new power supply depending if you can grab an older one. I would suggest a Corsair TX 750W.

If you need a new case someone else can pipe up and suggest one, I was never very good at finding good case designs.

CD/DVD/BluRay drives salvage or purchase if you really need CD media (gross).

If you don’t want to go over the 1k budget and need to buy new everything, you can get a GTX 670 instead of a 770. It’ll still run Guild Wars 2 at max, it just won’t play other games in the future at max as long as the GTX 770 will. This downgrade will save you about 65 bucks after a mail in rebate. If you don’t plan on overclocking (highly recommended for Guild Wars 2 WvW) you can save a couple bucks by getting a 4770 (non K version) instead. Another option would be to get an i5 4670K (or non K if you don’t want to overclock) which would be just as good for gaming right now, but lacks the extra 4 threads you can run. Basically without getting too deep into the differences, if you play games and do minor multitasking, like web surfing, the 4670(K) will do fine. If you do stream your gaming sessions and do a lot of video/audio encoding, get the 4770(K). Getting the i5 over the i7 saves you about 70 bucks.

Drastic FPS breakdown

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Hi everybody, i noticed a huge fps breakdown while playing wv3, i wonder if there’s something i can do about it. I tried playing at the lowest graphic settings, but 1st i don’t really like it, 2nd fps gain is quite low compared to higher grapic options. The worst situation is when more than 100 players are in the same area, like keeps, i start losing fps even if i’m far from the battle (aside from skill lag). My internet broadband is not that good, but i don’t think that’s the reason of my low fps. It’s a bit disappointing, i assembled my pc 10 months ago with an intel i7 3770, a sapphire 7870 ghz edition and a crucial m4 ssd, and i usually run at 25-40 fps in LA and 10-30 fps in wv3, it’s not possible! can someone explain me if there’s a bottleneck in my hardware or it depends from my graphics settings?

I’m going to assume that you haven’t overclocked your 3770 at all. You are getting lower frames than expected in WvW. I would peg your system to get 20-25 in the scenario you described above. The CPU is your bottleneck even though you have a top tier CPU. The game’s engine was never designed for the kind of stress WvW creates for a system. To get better performance, overclock your CPU and maybe start boycotting the gem system until performance issues are addressed. Nothing gets things done faster than when you cut off a source of income.

Personally, I’m a firm believer in Samsung’s Pro series even though I have a bunch of other Corsair gear, they just don’t make them like Samsung does. In particular, you’ll likely be interested in looking at the 840 Pro.
