What should I buy to get more fps?

Hello,
I run GW2 on computer with:
i5 3350p
4gb ram
nvidia gtx660

To be honest, I bought this PC about 2 moths ag, and I thought that it would run every game. Rift and even Metro: Last Light run smoothly without fps drops.
In Gw2 i got high settings, not ultra and still got sometimes frame drops. WvW is not playable on high settings, i have to change it to medium.

What should i improve in my PC to get more ans stable fps?

Thanks in advance

Your CPU is what needs help, but the cost to upgrade to an i5 3570K or an i7 3770K isn’t worth the money just to be able to get 25-30 FPS @ 1080p in WvW battles. WvW and other crowded areas of Guild Wars 2 are very CPU heavy and rely on a powerful CPU to keep up with all the characters on the screen. Your GTX 660 is fine, it should be able to set most, if not all settings to their highest values besides Supersampling and maybe All reflections.

What you can do for free is try overclocking your current processor and get a few extra hundred Mhz out of it which might get you a frame or two more in large WvW battles.

@ilithis and @Kyllaa well thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. However, it looks like it isn’t going to work.

Eh, I’m not done trying to fix it yet. What are your computer specifications? Lets start from the bottom and see if we can’t find a problem. Main things are the GPU, CPU, and RAM capacity and speeds.

I downloaded the HWMoniter you told me about

Processor- Intel i7-2670QM CPU @2.20 GHz
Ram- 8 GB
System- 64 bit
Graphics- When I run the diagnostic tool it says I am using integrated graphics but that doesnt make sense. I should be running a GeForce Gt550M i believe. I hope this helps. Thanks once again!

Hmm, well that MIGHT be a problem, not related to not being able to play, but still a problem. You should be able to set which graphics module you are using in BIOS. If not in BIOS then there might be some Intel graphics utility that allows you to swap between the two when you are booted into windows. Your best friend for this would be Google.

What are your GPU and CPU temperatures while idle and while the game has been running for 10 minutes?

I restarted game many times and i still cant use trading post. It is disabled for me from 2 days. Anyone can help me?

I hope you also have tried restarting your computer, assuming you have done that, the only thing I can think of that might be blocking the trading post from you is if you have some firewall that is blocking a port that it uses or the awesomium.exe process which is the trading post since it runs in a different process.

Connect issues with one of my characters

I have a similar issue, where just one of my characters can’t access wvw while the others are fine. I’ve already filed a support ticket, so that’s fine, but I’ve now been asked to reinstall my graphics drivers.

Does anyone have an idea why I’m being asked to do this, since it’s just the one character that has the issue? I’m very curious.

Probably just starting with the basics because perhaps the character in question is in a graphical environment where your graphics driver is corrupted or broken in some way. Not saying I have any experience in what ArenaNet does and for what reasons, but that would be my guess as to why they are asking you to do that.

So i buy Guild Wars 2 about 4 days ago and i have already have had problems with the game. I will be playing and the game the screen will freeze , the sound is still going but the game stops. After force closing the game i cant get any other program to open and when i try guild wars again i get this error message saying " Unable To Open Archive File" and it tells me to locate File “Local.dat” its on my computer. S

Someone please help me , i have already re downloaded it, set the program as a admen program and have played it on my admen account, tried repair to. My labtop is only a year old and it out dues all the requirements to play the game so no problem there. Help

I have the same problem man. Did you ever find a solution?

I’ll need your computer specifications and we can start to try and help you.

In the mean time you’ll also want to make sure that your CPU or GPU in your laptop is not over heating. If you don’t already have software that monitors your GPU and CPU, then I would recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:

Patch Failed, Downloading 250.000 files.

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Hello,
Since the 09-Jul Patch hit, I allowed it to download but then had a nasty crash after it finished, being forced to restart the computer.
When I logged back in, a repair tool popped and I left it alone until it finished. Now the my client wants to download 250.000 files even tho my gw.data file is already at 16GB!?
Is there any solution to this or do I have to redownload the whole game from scratch once more?

Are you sure the client finished updating the file? It sounds as if it wasn’t quite done yet and became corrupted when the crash happened. When the gw2.dat file is unexpectedly interrupted when updating there is a very high chance that the file will become unusable and need to be fully downloaded again. Next time, make a periodic backup of the gw2.dat file so that all you have to do in the future is delete the corrupted gw2.dat file and paste in your backup gw2.dat file. Then it will update from when ever your latest backup was from.

This seems to have fixed the issue. Don’t know if anyone else had this problem, but this could be useful to others if this problem ever comes up.

Yeah, if something happened unplanned to the computer, as in a crash or a power outage, while Guild Wars 2 is updating…the gw2.dat file will corrupt and have to be downloaded again. Unlike most people though, you were smart enough to already have a back up in place to be dropped in for situations like this, so A+ for you.

Super sampling doesn’t make a difference in FPS in my experience. But as for the new computer, you should be able to like, copy and paste the game directory over. I have a feeling it can work. If not, just install. As for what you can expect graphics wise, max it ALL. lol60FPS all the time with v-sync on. You’ll get wicked performance and playable performance in zerg vs zerg

It depends on the graphics card in question. I don’t have much experience with anything beyond the performance of a GTX 570. My graphics card’s usage jumps from upper 80s to 100% when I turn super sampling on from native. With higher end graphics cards you’re likely using like 60% on native and jumping to 85% on super sampling which won’t show you any performance degradation due to the fact you’ve still got some card left to use where I am maxing myself out. (numbers were pulled out of my kitten, besides the 80s and 100% since I can actually see those on my card)

What laptop can u suggest me ? >> around 800 euros

With me being in the states and don’t have much experience on where to go when buying things out of country (VAT) I would feel better if I deferred to someone else. This guide looks pretty solid from a glance, they have listed laptops in categories and you can see what best fits your needs from that list of laptops.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/14099-guild-wars-2-laptop-guide/

With that said, I’ll come out and say right now, gaming on a laptop is the more expensive way to game and you’ll pay more for less (unless you really like being able to game while moving around a lot, at which point the battery will only last a couple of hours).

The only way I can recommend a laptop is if you are out of town a lot due to work and are still an avid gamer. These people are out there, but besides them, I recommend everyone else get a desktop since you’ll get more power for less money.

actually i have bought one, but it was a while ago so i will just say i know nothing. i previously bought a geforce 8600 gt. by nvidia but it says evga or something on it. i have 2 monitors. one i will most likely use more for gaming, which is the bigger monitor. the resolution is normally 1680 by 1080. its the highest option. and i would like to play the game at best settings but i doubt it can happen on this computer. im not sure what amount fps was good. i think like 59. i just want it to run smoothly at medium to high graphics, im not too picky. and i recently installed hawken, so id like to check that game out. and my budget isnt too high, around 70-80 dollars.

EVGA is the reseller, Nvidia designed the card. EVGA likely put a custom cooler on it to differentiate it from other resellers like MSI, PNY, Gigabyte, etc.

The resolution you stated is not a standard resolution. You likely meant 1920 by 1080 or 1680 by 1050. Judging from the monitor size you mentioned, and the relative position of the ‘5’ and ‘8’ keys on a standard numpad, it was probably a simple typo.

Hmmm well 70-80 USD isn’t going to do much, to really get performance worth noting, you’ll have to spend about double that to get your med/high settings at 1080p. Then, to play at highest settings (besides supersampling and all reflections) you’ll be looking at double and a half your budget.

At that point your CPU is going to hold your frame rate back. I doubt you’ll ever see 60 FPS with a C2D (core 2 duo) processor that you have at 1080p unless you can overclock it beyond any reasonable frequency. The best you’ll likely see is 50 FPS which is still smooth in my book. However, this 50 FPS will be when no one or very few people are around. The more crowded the area, the more the CPU will have a hard time keeping up, thus lowering your FPS. So when you do large WvW battles and large dynamic events expect your frame rate to drop like a rock because of your processor. The only way to solve this is either by upgrading or turning the culling settings for WvW on to their most restrictive level and turning the WvW character detail to its most bland setting.

Game freezes then crashes when in action

I love playing guild wars 2, but a recent problem has made the game almost unplayable and not very fun for me. Whenever I get into a highly populated zone or there is a lot of action on the screen (like World vs. World), I get a noticeable framedrop, but that does ruin anything, until…my game suddenly freezes and does nothing. I have to ctrl + alt + delete to get out of it. It says not not responding. ??? I don’t understand why it would be doing this. My brother and I play together a good amount mainly in W vs W, but he performs just as bad as me with the framerate, but he doesn’t crash. I have another computer at my mom’s house and have not tested whether I will get the same issue there. Is there any way I can fix it or know what might be causing it? Thanks to all helpers!

No idea with that information. If that is the only indication/log if what went wrong, you might want to submit a support ticket to ArenaNet. Anytime, one suggestion is when you are in WvW is to turn the culling settings on higher so that you see fewer enemies. This will help the frame rate but could make is so you walk into an enemy force larger than what you expect since some may not be rendered on the screen.

New PC

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

Hi,I want to buy new PC
How many fps I will have with this components?(also in WvW)

Processor: Intel Core i7-4770k
Graphic card: Radeon HD 7970-GIGABYTE R797TO-3GD
Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z87X-UD3H
Memory: Kingston 8GB KIT DDR3 1600MHz CL9 HyperX X2 Grey Series

And there is next question:
How can I transfer the game to the new PC?Can be it?Can I simply uninstall the game?

So,that will be all for now:)

I love people that make it easy :p You’ll likely be able to toss everything to max and maybe even supersampling and still be able to play at 60FPS at 1080p. Without supersampling, you’ll for sure be able to do 60FPS at 1080p.

In WvW and large dynamic events, things change from being GPU intense to CPU intense. With the processor you have chosen, you’ll likely see 22-27 FPS in places populated with many active people. If you overclock the 4770K to 4.5Ghz, you will see 26-31 FPS likely.

For me its ok even 1240×1024 res…..i am not that kind of player that wants everything fancy around himself ….. but i want to be able to play in wvw with at least 30 fps stable … until now i was playing on 800×600 with subsample and i had 22 fps on normal play ….. XD

I’m going to assume you meant 1280 by 1024 for your display resolution. However, the 2 options available are 1280 by 768 which is slightly ‘worse’ than what you have right now or you can get 1920 by 1080 which is better than what you have right now. With you saying that you don’t want everything fancy around yourself, then I assume you would go with the lesser resolution screen (1280 by 768).

However, 30 FPS stable in large WvW battles on a low/mid end mobile CPU probably won’t happen, even at 1280 by 768. You’ll need a better CPU than the one in the laptop you have chosen to get good frames in WvW.

This is a tough one, for now we’re going to assume you meant 45 on medium not in WvW or large dynamic events, just in normal play.

If you are going for the 1080p screen option, probably not. The 650M which is about the same as the 740M, can’t push all those pixels and make them pretty at the same time. If you get the 720p version of the screen, then I would say that you’ll likely get the performance you desire.

Crashes on start-up (after use with HDMI)

Last night I decided to play on my TV screen through a HMDI cable. Everything went fine and after about an hour or so of enjoying Tyria on the big screen I logged off.

But since then, whenever I try to log in the game freezes after I press the Play button. I don’t even get to the character select screen, my cursor changes to the little hand but my screen stays black and my whole computer freezes. I can’t even alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del my way out of the it.

I seem to remember a lot of posts about a ‘black screen of death’ right after launch but my game always ran fine (apart from some lag issues) so is it possible something went wrong because of the HDMI connection? Like my computer tries to go into ‘hdmi-mode’ whenever I launch the game? (idk I’m just grasping at straws here…)

Well lets try experimenting here, don’t use your tv and see what happens. If it works, then its the HDMI connection, if it doesn’t work then its something else. I have a feeling its the tv though. Might be as simple as just resetting the connection between your graphics card and the tv by simply unplugging the HDMI on both sides and plugging it into the graphics card, then the tv.

Ilithis, do you somehow think his file is set to read only? I mean, if he’s running the client as admin and MSE shouldn’t be affecting it, what else could be in your opinion?

He had already uninstalled it before any further troubleshooting could come about lol, so just in case the issue still exists post-install.

I doubt it, but you can always check the attributes of a file by right-clicking the file and going to ‘Properties’. Then go to the ‘Details’ tab and there should be a list of characters signifying what attributes that file has, ‘R’ being read-only.

I just checked the attributes and it was A.

AKA read only is not a problem.

Archive: When set, it indicates that the hosting file has changed since the last backup operation. Windows’ file system sets this attribute on any file that has changed. Backup software then has the duty of clearing it upon a successful backup.

No worries, my computer probably really shouldn’t even be trying to run the game, but it’s all I’ve got. I run a custom made machine that I was going to upgrade, but lost my job around the time I would have, and don’t make enough to do so now.
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @2.20GHz, 3.5GB usable RAM out of 8GB installed (because it’s 32bit), and the 650 Ti as I mentioned above. I use Speccy and my temps are all below 85 degrees fahrenheit while idle, and never rise above 105.
I’ve also gotten rid of the old drivers, installed the most recent ones, repaired the GW2 client, and defragmented. After all of which, I restarted the machine, and still get the same results.

You run a machine very similiar to my siblings machine, the only difference is their C2D is at 2.0Ghz and they only have 2GB of RAM. When you said 85 idle and 105 load, you likely have some heating issues which cause funky colors to show up. I highly recommend cleaning that computer of yours. Under load you should never approach 95C, upper/mid 80’s is what I still consider the safe zone that allows time to do something in case some crazy accident to happens where my fan’s controller decides to rock at 40% instead of 80% speed which increases the temperature to unsafe levels. Hopefully the excess heat has not damaged any of your components permanently.

You shouldn’t need to do that.

Are you running any antivirus/firewall software or anything else that may be blocking access?

But let me know how you go after re-installing. For future, you’ll want to backup gw2.dat so you won’t have to download the whole ~17.5gb file every time.

I am running Microsoft Security Essentials by the way. I will let you know what happens after I re install. Thanks for the help by the way. This has been a very frustrating experience!

MSE shouldn’t interfere if you are using default settings. I run MSE and my client runs fine, so I would say you can safely eliminate that from potential problems.

I understand the book unlocks the level of tiers you can apply points to but it also says points will be refunded can this only be done one time, thanks.

It’s been a while for me since I have retraited, but I’m fairly certain that the books are one time use and to retrait you talk to the profession trainer and they just reset the points for a fee and its not tied to the book item at all.

Graphical issues, crashes, system freezes

in Account & Technical Support

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

I’ve had graphical issues since release, so I updated my RAM and graphics card (To an Nvidia 9800 GT) back in October, and still had many graphical issues, errors, freezes, and crashes. I was having menus and AoE ground target skills turn into green and blue grids, as did cutscenes, character models, and environment textures.

I upgraded my graphics card again, to an EVGA NVidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti, and for 45m-1hr, I was running most of the graphical options on high with some on medium. It was absolutely beautiful, and I knew why so many people had recommended using those settings. Then, out of nowhere all of my previous problems came rushing back tenfold. I am having the same problems with this card, as I had with my old one, with an added bonus, yellow!

I know I need to upgrade my entire machine, but I’m broke. I don’t have cash on hand for even a cheap quick fix, so I am wondering if there’s anything I can do, beyond lowering all graphical settings to low as I’ve already done to no avail, or if my situation is completely hopeless and I should just find another game.

Perhaps you can give us a better idea with what is going on if you supply us with what your computer specifications are (besides your GPU), things like the CPU tend to be helpful to know along with the amount of RAM you have and its speeds.

However, something that can be a common problem across all systems is heat. So lets make sure nothing is overheating in your system. If you don’t already have software that monitors the CPU and GPU temperatures, then I recommend grabbing HWMonitor which can be found here:

I am level 80 and have distributed all my points and I tried double clicking the middle book for 20 points but nothing, I do not remember using these books but I may have forgotten but if they or one use only it should say so in the description.

So, you already have used all these books. The most possible points you can have to spend are 70, which you get by leveling up. The skill books are there only to unlock the tiers of traits. For instance, the adept book allows you to allocate points in each tree up to 10 points in a tree. After you have 10 points in a tree, you have to put points in other trees or get to level 40 and buy the next book to allow for points to be allocated up to 20 in each tree.

yo peepers, im having trouble deciding about the best graphics card for my inspiron 530. i was going with http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A6173020&mfgpid=223429&chassisid=8455, which is just “VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 – Graphics card – Radeon HD 5450 – 2 GB DDR3 – PCI Express 2.1 x16 – DVI, D-Sub, HDMI” but i dont know.. ive always had nvidia and geforce stuff. can yall help me out. if you know about it.

I’m just going assume a few things and I’m basing my information off this:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-530_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf

-You never purchased a video card before for this machine and you are running on its original graphics module, which is integrated to the motherboard and cannot play the game.
-You are aware of the requirements for the new graphics card since you only have, at best if you have not upgraded the system’s power supply before, a 300W power supply (you might need a beefier power supply to handle the increased power draw from the GPU AND you have the proper cables to supply extra power to the GPU [6/8 pin PCIe power]).

Assuming the above is known information by you, we can move on. The HD 5450 isn’t exactly a graphics card to game on. Will it launch the game, Yes. Will it play it well, probably not. The only way we’ll know if it plays well is based on a few things:
-What resolution does your monitor natively use?
-What settings do you want to play the game at?
-What FPS do you expect to get at the wanted graphics settings?
-Do you play other games (besides Guild Wars 2) that you are considering wanting to play on particular settings?
—-
BONUS QUESTION:
-What is your budget?

After that the forums can get you a really well put together answer for what works best for you.

slow download speed

I have to say, I am having this problem too. However, in my case it is not just my internet connection, I tried patching and got a horrible speed of < 100kbps, closed the download, then took a speed test confirming I should have 2mbps. Any ideas?

Nice necro, but let us get some terminology straight here. The Guild Wars 2 client shows you speeds in xxxKB/s while speedtest.net shows you speeds in xxxmb/s. Capital ‘B’ is Bytes, while lowercase ‘b’ is bits. There are 8 bits in a Byte, so if we do some basic math we can show that 2mb/s =~= 250KB/s. Since you’re using under half of your connection speed this can be attributed to a few things.

Perhaps someone else is on your network using the bandwidth for other things, or maybe your own computer is using the rest of your ~150KB/s for downloading something else…

Another possibility is that the Guild Wars 2 servers are under stress and can’t upload the absolute maximum what you can download. No where do they state how fast they have to get the updates to you, so any speed is reasonable.

Your firewall might be slowing down the download rate by having to check all the data that goes through the Guild Wars 2 client. You might also have to open up the 3 ports Guild Wars 2 uses to get the fullest speed you can. If you search around this sub-forum, you will be able to find the ports.

Finally, you might be on a wireless connection that happens to be ultra terrible and you are not getting exactly the best signal to your router, therefore not using all the available bandwidth.

I bought a skill book and double clicked it and nothing happens, I am a Norn guardian but I do not think it is a class or race, my dad has a Sylvari hunter and the same happens to him on a different account and computer.

This isn’t really a tech support issue, but could be a bug or should be in ‘Players Helping Players’ depending what really is the case here.

For your characters, are you sure you are the proper level to use said skill book? You also cannot skip skill books to save money, all 3 must be bought in order to unlock tier 3 stuff. If your character is the proper level AND you have already purchased and used the prerequisite skill book(s), then I would go into the bugs sub-forum and post there.

Could someone have switched to my IP? was i hacked you think or just an error?

Unless you’re paying your ISP for a static IP address (used for hosting websites and always knowing how to access your computer outside your local network) then they can change it on a whim if needed. Normally they don’t but on the rare occasion they will if they’re doing maintenance or a power outage happens that affects the ISP.

I have to agree with HadesNuutz thakittens highly unlikely that someone knew your IP address as well as your account information. Needless to say though, you did the right thing by changing your password right away and letting ArenaNet know what happened. If you aren’t missing anything in your account I would let it go for now and make sure your new password is ‘strong like bull’ so-to-speak. Then, while you are at it, make sure the email account tied to your Guild Wars 2 account is also secured down hard with a bullet-proof password.

something that will isolate video card issues, from os issues from software bug / memory leak issues.

Perhaps expanding on this more would help others get a better idea what you are trying to suggest. It would also help ArenaNet in the long run if they do decide to implement such a feature.

HD 7970 or GTX 770?

I just checked the page on the 760 ti – and to their defense, they have a “rumored” next to it and guestimated the stats heh! http://gpuboss.com/graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-760-Ti

from the benchmarks though, it seems the 760 was a disaster – plus it goes for the same price as the 660 ti on amazon.com- so I suppose that’s a good reason it’s not coming out lol

I see quite a different story from gpuboss…according to their stats the GTX 660Ti does better in benchmarking, but this is a forum for gaming. In the tests for gaming, the GTX 760 does better and costs less according to gpuboss.

@OP
Either card (GTX 770 and HD 7970) are overkill for this game. However, you mentioned that you’ll be getting an i7, hopefully you’ll be getting one capable of some serious overclocking if you want to have decent frame rates in large WvW battles. If I had to purchase one GPU or the other, I would toss my money at Nvidia simply because it’s what I have been doing since the 7xxx series oh so long ago, prior to that I was AMD.

Personally I’ll be skipping the 7xx series and waiting for Maxwell to come out and see what Nvidia does with the ARM CPU that will be on board with everything else you would expect with a normal GPU.

Both Gpu and CPU are running at stable temperatures and not overheating, i monitored them straight away, its as soon as i get into the game. I’m also running this on windows 7 64bit. Its only since i patched the framerate has dropped through the floor!

I got one more idea, lets make sure the graphics card is in the proper PCIe slot on your motherboard (normally closest to the CPU), and make sure it’s reading all 16 lanes of bandwidth available to it. GPU-Z has the ability to easily monitor this. Normally when the graphics card is idle/not doing much, it will read 1.1 @ x4 or something of the like, then when you start using the graphics card, it should jump to 2.0 @ x16. If its not, you might need to reseat your graphics card on your motherboard.

HD 7970 or GTX 770?

Ilithis Mithilander.3265

check out this site I found yesterday – http://gpuboss.com/

It compares benchmarks and features of video cards. Surprisingly the 660ti beat out the 760, and the 770 was only marginally faster. 780 and Titan ruled the charts.

this is a wish list I’ve been putting together for my next computer – I grabbed a bunch of the best low cost gtx cards to compare prices and features – devise different price point computer build designs – http://amzn.com/w/AIJUZVJNMG13

also, if you decide on the GTX line, be sure to compare the different manufacturers who make it …for instance a gtx 770 from msi, may have completely different specs and features than a gigabyte, asus, or pny – at times extremely different specs.

For a website that believes the GTX 760Ti will exist, I’m not sure I would take whatever gpuboss is offering at face value. The GTX 760Ti simply does not exist and likely will never exist according to what Nvidia has said about the 700 series.

The two attached screens illustrate the difference. Also of note: the texture loss has not increased or decreased performance.

I’m fairly dumb, so talk like I’m six.

Thanks for any help you may provide.

First off, make sure the game’s settings have not changed even though you have not physically changed them yourself. Then, I would try deleting the local.dat file. The file is located in the user documents folder I believe.

If none of that works, maybe your graphics card is throttling itself down due to excessive heat and in turn, Guild Wars 2 is set to automatically adjust the settings based on your graphics card. Lets check your CPU and GPU temperatures, if you don’t already have software that monitors these temperatures, then I would recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe

Make sure to let the game run for 15 or so minutes before reporting the temperatures back, you’ll want to make sure the temperatures have reached their peak temperature under the load of Guild Wars 2.

With such a graphics card I thought that single frame FPS was expected. My siblings had a 9800GT and on lowest settings was able to get the game to play at max 10FPS when staring into the ground. Since then, they got a GTX 650Ti and can play the game on mediumish settings at 1600×900 at 35ish FPS in most areas.

Personally, I think its time to get a new graphics card, you are 6 generations out of date on the Nvidia line.

what creeped me out most about the corsair dh100 series was the complaints from users that it was leaking, one guy mentions how he opened his case one day after it was malfunctioning only to find his video card corroded from enduring those leaks. Corsair did reimburse him …but still not a good experience. Then comparing it to the koolance line ( superior water coolers ) the hoses on the dh100 look frail, – I can picture them cracking after about 3 years of heavy OC use – the bad thing about the noctua is that it’s so big – on some boards it overshadows the ram ..so some sticks that are designed tall will bump into it depending on certain mobo designes …..then there’s the case issue that Noctua recommends atleast 15 mm of overhead clearance space in the case. – Then the point that you have to get an adapter kit separately for the 1150 sockets – either purchased or free from the company after you show them proof of purchase …which can be a pita when you have all the parts in front of you but need to wait a few more days for the adapter kit. – the very cool thing about the noctua is that you can remove the fan from the heatsink to clean them off from dust. – It would seem that you get more benefits with the noctua for long lasting use – where as the DH100 is more likely to wear down / become brittle and harder to clean as dust gets lodged in the radiator.

I’m not sure if the hoses are the same for the H50 versus the H100, but I’ve had my H50 for 3 years now and haven’t had any issues with an overclock for about half that time with what is in my signature. Perhaps there are some bad eggs out there, maybe due to shipping even which Corsair should take into account for (at least a little IMO). It just always seems since bad eggs smell bad people comment about the smell more often, but when an egg smells normal or good, it goes uncommented on.

I’ve also got my H50 crammed in the same position for the past 3 years in an ‘S’ curve where the top of the ‘S’ is the processor side, and the bottom of the ‘S’ is the radiator attached to the panel of the case that comes off. Since I wanted the radiator inside the case, the hoses make some fairly extreme bends to create the ‘S’ curve.

Personally, I think Corsair’s products are well made, at least 3 years ago they were. I know their power supplies have gone downhill since then.

The time of that report seems kind of outdated…like before the game even came out.

It’s mainly the game’s engine that gives everyone problems with getting high frame rates in WvW. If you search around there are many threads about WvW performance. You’re running an older processor that doesn’t have the best single thread performance. If you upgrade to Haswell which has better single thread performance and a higher clock frequency, you should see frames in the 25ish area. If you overclock you can get more frames, but I doubt you’ll see 35+.

Things you can do:
-Overclock your current processor, won’t help too much, might get you a handful of frames.
-Make sure your WvW settings are set the lowest character detail and maybe add some culling.
-Buy a processor/motherboard with better single thread performance.
