Well that happens to even the top computers, the best FPS I’ve seen in a clash of two zergs is about 30FPS. For some, this is fine, for others…you’d probably get more responses in the tech support sub-forum.
Have you tried to repair or redownload the game? Maybe you had a bad install.
No, the stuff they are implementing next week if ONLY for world versus world. Those culling options will not be available for open world dynamic event content, like the dragon events.
I think I would be more excited about the living story if it updated a little faster. It seems like a really long wait from my perspective to release such small modules. I would think that trying a 3 week release schedule for the living story updates would be more reasonable and keep people more interested in it rather than aggroing people towards it, then losing aggro because there was too big of a gap between content updates. The problem with this would be one of a few things, they would have to prepare another patch per month, or they could move the monthly content updates (like all the WvW stuff coming next week) to the 3 week schedule instead of the monthly schedule that it is on right now.
Personally, what I would like to see in the future is a patch every fortnight. It would seem its just enough time to start losing interest in the previous patch’s contents but long enough between patches, that if you are too busy, you will still have a chance to get in on the action. These fortnightly patches would be smaller than our current monthly patches obviously.
The short answer is get better hardware.
However, that is not what people want to hear, so I would suggest unparking your cores. If you search around this subforum you can find a half dozen explanations and methods on how to do this.
One thing you should be able to do is upgrade for free to Windows 7 x64 bit. I’m not entirely sure how to do this, but I have heard it mentioned around this subforum.
Make sure your graphics driver is up to date.
Overclocking your CPU would help, but since you are on a laptop, I’m sure you would generate too much heat and things would start to malfunction.
None of these things will really net any big performance, if any at all, but its a start to making your system a little better.
Also, realize that you are playing on the MINIMUM requirement graphics card. Meaning the game is able to launch, but nowhere does ArenaNet say how well the game will run. My guess is that your graphics card is holding your system back because its the minimum spec, and since you have a laptop, you can’t upgrade. My advise is to grab a desktop to play GW2.

Thanks for the help everyone
I indeed was playing on max quality sound settings. Yesterday I did the Clawmag event and right after I thought it was going to be fine, it crashed..
Anet, can we please get a fix for this?
I would just keep lowering the audio setting until its at a minimum, then I would hardcore complain that the game is really broken (since there is no minimum specification for sound).
I know 16GB of RAM is more than I’ll ever probably need, still, it doesn’t cost much to get. Also, I know it’s better with desktops to get the best single graphics card you can afford and later down the line pick up a second if you need it, pop it in, & add SLI to get the equivalent of a next gen graphics card…but can one do that with laptops? My understanding is laptops are less flexible, so unless I get a laptop that can take two cards now, it will never take two cards. As for the power supply, that’s not a giant concern as 99.9% of the time my laptop is plugged in.
As for Sager, I read lots of reviews and checked them out on the BBB…apparently they are a very poor company for buying computers from. It sounds like their parts are sketchy, their service is terrible, and most of their machines have a very short lifespan. I’m inclined to believe those reviews since Sager notebooks tend to be around 10~15% cheaper than an identical counterpart from another brand. You get what you pay for, you know?
Moving on, would it be possible to run the entire game on high with WvW on medium then on a laptop? If so, what would the specs be to make that happen? Should I go single or SLI graphics? How much processor power should I aim for since the game tends to rely on that a fair bit more than most other games?
In the worst case scenario, you will not get 30fps in WvW on any laptop on any level of graphics setting because in reality the graphics card is NOT what is the limiting factor in this game like it is in most other games. Unless the laptop is using a desktop processor and overclocked to the same specs as SolarNova has already mentioned, 30fps is not doable. Then, to dissipate all that heat in such a small area, I would recommend playing outside during the winter and when its summer, move to a winter home and play outside there.
However, if you’re fine with sub 30fps in the worst case scenario (100+ man battles) then the specs that SolarNova already mentioned will work.

A fix, not yet. This isn’t related to your graphics card, its an audio bug. I hear people can mitigate the chances it happens if you turn your audio quality down a notch. It happens because there are so many people around making so many sounds that the system can’t handle so it gives you a whoooing noise. It’s a known issue that has been around since the the game has been released.

I’m going to assume you and your brother live in the same household. A work-around would be to just copy the gw2.dat file from his computer to your computer. The gw2.dat file can be found at its default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\GW2\gw2.dat) IIRC.
Do you happen to have another drive you can play the game on to see if it works 100%? I don’t want to say the drive is bad, but maybe there is a sector that is bad and GW2 just happens to be in that sector. You can check for disk errors to ensure drive integrity.

Yeah, stuff like that you can’t buy. You’re going to have to make the gift yourself in the forge.
/agree to all of the above!
Another idea is to have different colored nodes on the mini-map to indicate what tier ore/tree they are. I’m not sure how this would work with plants, but the other two should be pretty easy to come up with a color system for.
Copper/Aspen, Ekku, Kertch: Brownish
Silver/Gummo, Mimosa, Snow Cherry: Silver
Iron/Gummo, Mimosa, Snow Cherry, Fir, Tukawa: Red
Gold/Fir, Tukawa: Gold
Platinum/Banyan, Inglewood, Pine: Grey
Mithril/Baoba, Cypress, Red Oak: Blue
Orichalcum/Ancient, Orrian: Orange
Some colors are too close, like Silver and Grey, but one should grasp the idea. Perhaps Purple can be used for one of them instead; I was trying to go with the color of the ore, but some are too close in color.
I’m a sucker for the utility infusions. However, in case they decide to make infused versions of the amulets and accessories, I would only toss a basic versatile infusion in the slot (if you do fractals) so that when you upgrade your item to an infused version, you don’t lose the expensive infusion. I have no idea if they are planning on making these newer ascended items infusable or not, so be careful what you slot it with for now, just in case you can upgrade it later on.

From the default specs of the 1500 dollar model, the only changes I would make from the default (besides any of the random crap you want past the hardware selections) is upping the processor to the next tier and upping the RAM to 12GB which will give you a grand total of 1774 (under your 1800 dollar budget).
As Jand mentions, the hardware inside this laptop is inferior to hardware you can get for 1800 on a desktop. Personally, I think desktop gaming on a laptop is a joke right now. The price to performance ratio is really bad, you’ll be paying much more and receiving mediocre hardware. As it is, I couldn’t upgrade the graphics card and screen with what I really would have liked to do. You also don’t get an SSD with the selection I made. The 12GB is overkill but future-proofing a bit, and having only 8GB did not free up enough money to upgrade anything else.
Personally, I’d grab a desktop.
If you’re interested in getting information about new hardware and are willing to build your own PC there are a lot of people on these forums who are willing to help.
If you’re not interested in purchasing the individual parts and building the PC yourself, I’m sure people will still chime in with suggested prebuilt computers, infact there should be a lot of threads you can already check out to get a better idea of what level of hardware gives what level of performance.
Awesome – my own search didn’t yield that vid – will definently give this a try – thx,
just watched that…a 2nd chest?? what?? – must.load.game…now!
Hahaha, that first chest is like only part of the way done I can see why you were confused now.
As for finding that video, head to the GW2 wiki and search for the jumping puzzle. There are pages for each of the jumping puzzles to help you figure out what is going wrong, if anything at all.
Your hardware basically just meets the MINIMUM requirements to play the game. The minimum does not mean you will get anywhere near decent frames per second. Basically get new hardware if you want to play; the processor is about as close as your can get to the minimum and your graphics card is a shade above the minimum.
Does this happen when many people are on the screen or just yourself? If it happens when its just yourself, then this is odd behavior, but if it only happens when you are in a crowded area then things seem amiss.
Might I ask, have you checked your CPU/GPU usage during these anomalies?
For me it would be when fighting Kholer and you are in the perfect place so that when pulled, you get flung really high into the air and upon landing die from fall damage. It’s happened to me twice and it was awesome each time.
I just followed this video to complete it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO9sJtpnr7o
Fractals scream content that could be awesome like the bonus mission pack missions from GW1. Gwen’s escape from the Charr as a little girl, etc. etc. Those missions were so awesome but there was no real reason to keep doing the missions if you didn’t want the skins associated with them.
Perhaps the current fractals would be better if we actually knew what each one was. There is a lot of speculation, but I haven’t heard any hard facts besides the attack on Ascalon City.
I agree with the shimmer effect for stealth. I play a main Thief and I think this would be awesome. Perhaps give one or two seconds of pure stealth and have the last one or two or X seconds be a shimmer effect. The only reason I give one to two seconds of complete stealth is to give the Thief some advantage to those who can spot the glimmer effect with ease.
Halo CE did camo really well where if you had a trained eye to see the distortion, you can find the cloaked enemy.
I would say the Gilded Infusion because eventually the 20% more gold will add up while the 20% MF is put on faith that its doing something.
Yeah, if those are load temperatures, then that is fine.
If by lagging, you mean low FPS, that is going to happen depending where you are with a CPU that scrapes by the minimum requirements. Upgrade your hardware (or overclock) or wait for something to happen that optimizes the way the game runs.
If by lagging you mean latency times, then have you tried rebooting your router/modem?
You graphics is not Windows Areo. Hit the windows key and type in ‘dxdiag’ without the quotes. A window pops up with some tabs at the top, one should say ‘Display’. Click that and gimme the name of your graphics device. This is your graphics card.
I’m not exactly a big contributor to the Dungeon forums, but I gaze at a lot of the posted topics. This would definitely be a SotG I would pay attention to.
Dearest Rob:
You are already fabulous for being on the forums and teasing us with things you and the team are doing each month. Let us start taking it to the next step with a SotG. You would be even more stellar than you already are! I’m not sure how I can bribe you since I live a little far from Washington; perhaps one day I will be in the area and give you a pat on the back.
Sincerely,
Ilithis Mithilander

I got my PC custom built by a friend but my GF wasn’t so lucky, I need help in upgrading what she needs so I can play GW2. What do I need to upgrade so that I can play (minimal settings is fine, atm it won’t let me install for some reason).
Not sure exactly what to put here, so ill just list off some stuff.
Specs:
Win7Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz (2 CPUs), ¬2.7GHz
Memory: 3GB RAMG Card: Intel® G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
Chip type: Intel® GMA 3100
Approx total memory: 256MB
What resolution do you want to play at?
What is your budget?
What is your minimum acceptable framerate?
Firstly, if you live in the United States, don’t switch it to 220V. You’ll only break things because most of the states use 110V mains.
We have no idea what your setup is…besides your GTX 280. If that graphics card is any indication of the rest of your system…upgrade.
That aside, without extra parts, its going to be hard to say what works and what doesn’t. If you see any capacitors with black stuff oozing from the top then its a sign that the capacitor is going or is already gone. I had an ASUS motherboard with a few capacitors with black stuff on the top, but it still chugged along as if it was alright.
Personally, I’m on the faith system at this point for this issue. Like a lot of other things in this game that are incorrect and/or possibly bugged, its something I look at and have the slightest hope that it works. I run mostly MF gear, some of my accessories and back piece are not MF gear, but I play more skilled so I don’t have to rely on stats to do well. One day I’ll bend and get another set of gear that has real stats, but I doubt that will happen until ascended armor comes out (if it does).
Max your thirst slayer title.
This will cost you ~700,000 karma.
There was a way to complete the thirst slayer title relatively easily without actually paying anything for it. There were drinks at the end of the game celebration party that you could continually get and max the title that way. It would take a few hours of spamming the tables though. I’m not sure if this still exists or not, so when I get another character to max level I plan on finishing the title. I got too tired the night I was there the first time.
Never heard of this, if it was ever true.
I knew that Hero’s Elixirs would give you drinks (the ones you picked up off the ground)…. but they don’t anymore
This was within the first month of the game’s launch. I got tier 1 done and saw that the next tier was 6 times the amount I just consumed so I did a couple hundred more before listing it as something to do on an alt much later. The food tables and drink kegs looked a lot like the ones for feasts and what not if that helps at all.
I didn’t know that the ones off the ground don’t work anymore D= I used to drink them all the time when farming bandits in Queensdale.

In the worst case scenario of 100+ man battles in WvW and that amount of people doing a DE, you will get sub 30 FPS. Even the biggest and baddest processors from Intel and AMD can’t handle that amount of people without dipping into the upper 20’s and lower 30’s.
The 660M should be able to do a mix of medium to high settings, but since you’ll be playing at a lower resolution, I think you may even be able to pull everything to max besides maybe supersampling.
The 3630QM is pretty solid, but only 300MHz faster than your previous CPU. That said though, the i7 is a true quad core, doubling the amount of real cores you have available which should help our your FPS some.
Personally, laptops used for desktop gaming don’t make sense…Not yet at least. My guess is you would see a minimum of 15FPS and go to 25FPS. I have no experience with either this processor or this graphics card, so take my word for what you will. I’m just basing those parts off what I run and guessing at the outcome.
I’m not sure if this will help or not, but I encounter a significant FPS drop when fighting Bloomhunger because of the amount of reflections that are generated in that area. To reduce this, I simple turn reflections off for this fight. I would try that as well and see how that fares out.

I will bet on language and localisation files. If you change the game language it will most likely require extra files for both the current and the newely selected languages.
To think about it, i think i messed around with the audio language before logging out last night. I guess that explains it.
3GB in just localization files seems kinda high… I can’t see 20% of the game size being because of a language setting.
Well since we can’t click to move, I’m curious as your thoughts on how you are going to move around in a touch environment. Unless you just mean to use touch for skills and other UI commands.
Using both buttons at once allows you to drag-move.
Both buttons being the mouse’s left and right click buttons? How does one do this on a touch screen though? Most of the time the right click is leaving your finger on the monitor for an extended period of time, while the left click is just normal tapping. Do you mean to use a mouse as well as the touch screen?
There is no ascended gear that you can only get from guild missions, you can get earrings, rings and amulets from laurels and ectos. The ascended back pieces are still fractals only. There are some certain of the newer stat combinations that can’t be infused yet, though they can still have an infusion added in the infusion slot. I assume that is a bug and will be fixed at some point.
Ah, thats right. I totally forgot about the laurels and ectos for the accessories. I would never go down that route which is why I forgot about it. Personally, it makes more sense for me to do guild related stuff to get the accessories.
Your information is not true. Or I am not interpreting your info correcly. I got an Exotic Guild Defender Backpack from completing the Guild Bounty mission. so you can get back piece from Guild missions
Yeah, my bad… I had assumed that when we were talking about Fractals that people would assume ascended gear since its superior because of AR. Even so, ascended gear is better, since it has larger numbers, but the only downside is that I’m not sure if all stat combinations are represented in ascended gear.

The short answer is both.
Guild Missions are for accessories.
Laurels are for amulets and rings.
Back pieces can’t be gotten through either of the two above mentioned methods.
Well since we can’t click to move, I’m curious as your thoughts on how you are going to move around in a touch environment. Unless you just mean to use touch for skills and other UI commands.
Some skills are Combo Fields, aka combo starters. I play a Thief, so skills that create fields are like Shadow Refuge, 4 on SB, and Smoke Wall. These fields usually have some adverse condition they apply to the enemy within them, like blind and poison (Shadow Refuge is an exception to this).
Then, there are certain skills that are combo finishers that activate certain combos when they are activated inside or when the skill passes through the combo field.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo
sums it up pretty well.
I have to say my initial thought from the title of the thread when clicking on it was, “someone found out how to multibox really well D=” (I did not actually frown IRL).
I would shake your hand in congratulations for what you have accomplished and I hope these ideas help others who have the same problems. Perhaps someday down the road you won’t need to use pedals and will be able to fully use your left arm again or maybe Google Glass can allow you to use your eye movements for actions.
Dungeons is where I make my money. CoF P1 is ultra farmed, but if you also want tokens without getting DR, then TA all paths, HotW P1, and SE P1 and P3 are good paths to run.
Ahhh, so that’s where everyone from FA hangs out. Thanks.

If I were you, I would try reinstalling the graphics driver. I would link you to where you could download it, but I don’t know your computer specs.
Make sure to do a clean install when you reinstall your graphics driver. There is a checkbox during the installation process that you click to do this.
Do FA guilds that do Guild Missions browse these forums? D=
You can use both together, but only the main hand one will ever trigger. Sigils of the same type never stack. Having two Sigils that stack stacks like that will not work. I have heard that if you use Bloodlust on both 1 handed weapons, then the stacks build twice as fast, but I haven’t tried this myself. I would suggest Sigil of Force or Sigil of Accuracy with the flat 5% rates in conjunction with Bloodlust or Accuracy that give the stacks.
If this would be true I will be rather sad tbh. I loved expansions to original GW and the speed with which they were released.
I thought they came out far too quickly. I was ready for Factions when it came out, but Nightfall I wasn’t ready for. I think I ended up starting to really play Nightfall 3 months after its’ initial release. TBH the population wasn’t enough for all the games. When Nightfall came out, the populations in the towns were much less than when everyone was localized to only Prophecies. Heroes was their solution to this, and they did a pretty good job at it.
Haha, I totally forgot about the change in time for server resets when this happens. I was aware of the time change, I just forgot it makes my dailies reset an hour earlier, like it was at launch. Thanks for the reminder.
I have to agree with BioFringe on this one. I love my scrolls far too much, however maybe someone could tweak the script to run other functions of the mouse.
I can also vouch for AutoHotkey, I used it in GW1 to drink a bottle of alcohol every minute for the 10,000 minutes that were required for that title. It was much better than having a one minute sound clip on constant loop while I was playing.
