I agree with the OP… Titles are extremely cheap content (once you already have the systems in place to reward and display them of course), requiring only localization to roll them out.

Healing Cleric bomber "tank" for PVE?

Imperatora.7654

I’ve actually used a similar build (30/0/30/0/10) and clerics… it was rare, not exoitc, but I can give some feedback

1) It kills fast for a tank. You will never keep up with a zerker however, but they will be long dead by the time you notice you were even hit.

2) full clerics is overkill. Between smoke bomb, shield 4&5, CCs from other kits you just don’t need that much defense most of the time. Honestly, you are a better tank by using your skills smartly than relying on healing power.

3) that said… bosses. Can’t be CCed, can’t really be blinded. You lose about 3/5ths of your survival as soon as something gets kitten stacks of Defiant

4) keep something ranged ready, too many bosses hate melee users

Honestly, if you want to be a big supporter, go for a better mix of gear (some knights is nice) and pick kits/utilities that are able

Well, high healing on 1 spamming might be nice for turning some dungeons into speedruns, where Berserker doesn’t cut it. Maybe.

Not really… EIB works best on long battles (where the + healing comes in handy) which precludes speed runs

Should we be allow to tp gemstone stuff

in Black Lion Trading Co

Imperatora.7654

No and here is why:

BLT chests (mmmm… sandwiches…) and all other gemstore items are already available for pure gold through the gem exchange. This buy/sell split is able to be controlled and easily monitored (by players and far more importantly by devs). If all the items are moved to the standard AH they would lose that control (devs have zero market control on the buy/sell split of say… mithril ore).

While this is merely “problematic” for things like the infinite harvesting tools, where it really comes down is on the chests.

Things like the elixers, boosts, etc are great “filler” items on the chest’s loot tables. They are of varying worth depending on who gets them (a glory booster is personally worthless as I’ve never sPVPed, however to some in my guild they are a godsend). They work well to give the chests a nice random value. By moving these filler items to the standard AH, those like me with “worthless” sPVP boosters will be able to sell my stock to people like my guildies who really want them. My “filler” is their “reason to buy”.

So rather than selling one key to me in the hopes of getting a rare PVE skin, and a key to my friend in the hopes of getting another glory booster… they sell one to me and I market my booster.

Nightmare Court and Mordremoth

in Lore

Imperatora.7654

If nightmare is Mordremoth’s corruption, I think another question that would need to be answered would be why does it affect no other races?

Every single example of dragon corruption we have seen has been very indiscriminate in its effect. There are risen Quaggen, Branded devourers, and Icebrood wolves… why would Mordremoth only be able to corrupt a single race (and a very new one at that)

Also corrupted people have all been shown to “lose their personality” upon corruption. The lutenists still show intellect, but the rank and file do not. This would greatly point against Nightmare being a form of dragon corruption. Courtiers are still very obviously extremely smart, unlike an icebrood, risen, branded etc…

Malyck kinda disproves that theory. He was born from a completely different Tree, that in no way had Ventari’s influence, and he is completely against the Nightmare Court and what they stand for.

Admittedly, they were trying to enslave/kill him.

I think/hope the 10k thing is a once off for this event. Players have an absolutely ABSURD amount of corn, to the point where I don’t think it left the “most supplied” list of items since last year. There needed to be a sink and it needed to be a big one.

That said, I hope the drop rate balance passes for future events don’t result is such a huge glut on the market that it requires a big adjustment.

Imperatora.7654

ok, a lot of stuff I wanted to talk about has already been mentioned, so I’m going to go with the ones that havent (or that I didn’t see)

1) Charr armor. Even the cultural light t3 clips the tails. This is a absolutely MASSIVE reason I don’t play my engineer as much as I otherwise would… her armor looks the same as it did at lvl 40ish because the Rascal set is one of the few mediums that really work with the Charr bodytype. If you want me to buy gem-store armor, it NEEDS to work!

2) Titles. Wow, so much content for so little work! By adding more titles to more achievements you can easily hook people like me into doing absurd things just to get a really cool title under my name. Look at Rift, their achievement system is littered with titles and players would grind and play and do all kinds of things to get a cool title for RP, or a really rare one to show off while in town.

MORE TITLES! You already have the system and code in place, just make more!

3) Lack of need for control or support in dungeons. Right now most dungeons are “go zerker or go home” because damage is absolute king, there are very few (if any) fights that can’t be solved by simply piling on enough DPS to negate the mechanics. I would LOVE to see a complete rework of all paths (obviously not in the same patch as that would be insane) to require control and support roles. I know why you don’t want the bosses to be able to be CCed to death, but no reason adds can’t be. Same with support in the form of condition management, heals etc. Some kind of control needs to be placed on projectile reflects as they are currently absurdly overpowered.

Give me a reason not to stack dps

so…. 6 years…

Rotational (day/night) and orbital (seasonal cycle) are independent. Since no seasonal changes have been observed (outside of a freak snowstorm in LA) we have no gauge by which to measure the orbital cycle (and thus years).

Think about what you just said…no really, think about it and then hit your head on your desk a couple of times.

Anyways, this should be an option in EVERY game – who the hell cares what people wear. Heck, some heavy armor in this game looks like leather…some light looks like medium…etc, etc.

Actually when I mixed armor (prepatch) before they removed the option. I had no problems with clipping. Except on a very few sets.

Imperatora.7654

(and before you jump on me for “maining thief!”, I actually have an engie main but I played a lot of thief and mesmer)

1) The big issue with this change is the raw number of targetless AOEs in the game. Grenade kits, necro staffs, ele’s, mesmers, rangers… I can’t actually think of any class off the top of my head that doesn’t have easy access to quick cooldown, targetless AOE damage. This change to revealed would be devastating with skilled players, when the mesmer/thief goes poof, just pop an AOE on their location to bring them back (and keep them there for 4s). It would be a massive reduction in the power of those skills.

I’m unsure if you also intend to include condition damage.

2) “partially visible” is a tricky target. GW2 works on many video cards and different cards handle transparency to various effects. A player on ultra may have a far harder time spotting a stealthed player than one on low, or nVidia players will have an advantage over AMD players… This totally ignores the issues with your change #1 where a single hit would cause the loss of stealth. Since this game does not require a target to deal damage (even with single target attacks), this change would mostly invalidate the use of stealth as an escape tool (since you would still be taking most of the damage you would without stealthing).

3) I’m actually ok with this, however it will require some serious re-balancing to mesmer and thief (namely their access to stability).

going to actually vote that one down. LOTS of that “unused space” is used quite heavily by the roleplaying community, to the point where finding a spot that isn’t a) part of an event chain, b) frequented by non-rpers (jumping puzzles) and c) not already used by another major guild can be extremely challenging.

If anything I would support MORE little cubbyholes and interesting little knooks and crannies with “nothing in them” to give RPers somewhere to go and play without being trolled all the time.

Now someone thougt that “playing the market” should be another “minigame”.

Well its nice indeed but this minigame is TOTALLY broken in risk reward and its like FREE pvp even for people who don t want to play it.

Its like if glory would be awarded for minigames like crab toss and 1000% more than normal PvP then adapt PvP rewards at crab toss points ratio.

Something have to be done fast for TP risk/reward.
Something similar to crystalline dust but MORE often and MORE fast.

Give speculators the message “if you are too greedy you WILL lose everything”, rather than giving them advices and defending them.

Just because the risk isn’t meaningless character death doesn’t mean there is zero risk. I’m not aware of a single other activity in game that can result in hundreds of gold losses in a single day.

There is no other activity even remotely as economically risky as plying the TP, so there should be no other activity as rewarding.

Do you hate Trahearne?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Imperatora.7654

Imperatora.7654

What I don’t like about Trahearne is not the character himself, but the poor execution.

In writing, we have a saying: “Show, don’t tell”. If a character is a great painter, don’t write “he was a good painter”, you show other characters reacting to it, you show the awards they won, you show them covered up to their elbows in paint with little flecks of it stuck in their hair. You show them painting, you don’t tell the readers that they paint.

Trahearne is the opposite. We are told he did great things, but never shown him doing great things. We are told he spent years in Orr, sneaking around trying desperately not to get killed to smuggle out vital knowledge to the other races so they could confront Zhaitan… but when we return he gives it all the emotional importance of going to the grocery store. Where is the psychological damage? Where are the physical scars?

We are told that he “can’t do this without you”… but at every turn, every time we choose path A, we find out that path B happened just fine without us. This lack of agency on the part of the player, the lack of repercussions for our choices, shows that things CAN get done without us (and shows trump tells in story writing).

I think a lot of the Trahearne hate also stems from the comparison between him and the mentors. The mentors were written amazingly, all three were good examples of “show, don’t tell”. We are shown Sierans’ love of life and desire to experience as much as possible before she dies. This makes her final lines so much more impactfull. We are shown Forgal’s sense of honour and duty, his desire for a meaningful death and fear of growing too old and useless to do so. Lastly, and likely the easiest and most direct comparison happens for Whispers players between Tybalt and Trahearne.

Both Tybalt and Trahearne have massive self-esteem issues, they both feel they will never be able to live up to the tasks they have been given in life. However, Tybalt shows this by shirking taking on new responsibilities in the order, we are shown other character’s surprise when he takes on a new partner and starts to actually advance within the order. This makes his death a great character development as he is finally taking the ultimate responsibility to save the lives of others. Trahearne on the other paw… we are just told (again and again and again) how he “isn’t a soldier” and “I’m no general”… but that telling never amounts to anything, it just kinda dies.

Oddly enough, part of what makes the death of the mentors such an impact is that we KNOW they had amazing stories to tell, we know they would have went places and done/seen interesting things, thus their deaths were really cutting not just their lives, but their stories short. It hurt because the players felt they only got to the middle of an amazing book before it was torn from our hands. Trahearne however had half the game and did little with that time. We didn’t get a great story out of him (mostly due to poor characterization) so there was no impact when it ended.

TL;DR: Working with Trahearne is a shock change from the amazing writing of the mentors, which I think is where a lot of the hate comes from.

Imperatora.7654

The problem is not blind, the problem is that Thief can fart blackpowder anytime they want to at the cost of being able to take any other action and you were still unable to beat them despite the fact they basically autoattacked you to death
The solution is to play better.

ftfy.

Black Powder takes 6 init, half their pool, and takes 8s to recharge that (baring a build specifically made to generate init).

If you are getting destroyed by a thief with little to no init, the problem is not the thief.

Except, Blind is buffed. You can’t just remove blind by hitting the air.

In order to remove blind, you have to hit something to remove it. The moment you get away from BP, the thief chases you down and strafe around you. When you finally get the blind off, the thief can fart another blackpowder.

If the thief is getting dangerously low on hp, he can just HS away to stealth.

Nope, Blackpowder needs nerf, Blackpowder deserves a nerf.

Again, it takes HALF their init each and every time they drop BP to avoid a single hit from you. Two BPs’s and they are autoattacking. If you are losing to an autoattacking thief you are losing to anything and blind is not the issue, you are.

Use a range attack, use a leap, an offensive shout, use anything to clear the blind. If the thief is able to melee you and you can’t hit them due to strafing, well then you couldn’t hit them without the blind so your point is moot (and be glad they are wasting init on BP instead of using it on offensive abilities while still dodging around so you can’t hit them). If it takes you 8s to land a single hit (time it takes to regen the init needed to “fart another black powder”), you are simply being outplayed.

Now, if they are p/p so they can fight at range, and if they BP again the fight should be yours (assuming you can beat an autoattacking thief), if they don’t then sleep well knowing they blew half their init on stopping one of your attacks.

You are complaining about an autoattacking pistol or (if they swap) shortbow thief, those weapons hit like a wet noodle without using a large portion of init.

Warrior should be immune to blind.

Unacceptable. One level 80 character could just change races to get all of the achievements racial stories give. I stillwonder how is it possible that people choose a race, play that same one for days and realize not to like it, only when too high level to be willing to restart.

Well, take Charr for example.

When I started I assumed that the massive clipping and stretching issue common in low level armor was limited to the crappy stuff that no one cared about because the real cosmetic goodies don’t come in until max level. So I kept playing her, there were very few cosmetic armor guides at the time that showed the back so I had no idea what was waiting for me.

Now I have a lvl 80, with the same armor I got her at lvl 60 because it’s the only armor that suites an engineer that doesn’t look horrid from behind.

I would LOVE to be able to change to a humanoid race to be able to get rid of the clipping and stretching issues from the armor.

The only way for anyone to get close to 5s of fear is a Necro traited and geared for fear duration with a skull environmental weapon. Without the skull, they cap out at a base of 3.4s (2s for Wave of Fear (underwater only) or +1s for trait, +0.4s for 6 Superior Rune of the Necromancer). Baring that, 3.6s for a runed warrior (Fear Me), or a runed thief (stolen skull ability for their F1).

So the only way you will see anything near a 5 sec fear vs a necro trated and geared for nothing but fear duration and using an environmental weapon, otherwise it caps out very similar to a full adrenaline mace f1 (3s vs 3.6s) for the same class that your are arguing buffs for.

Fear is also affected by -condition duration and can be cleared by condition clearing abilities in addition to stun break abilities and is thus astronomically easier to get out of (especially in a large group).

Anyone who uses the words “permastealth” and “combat” in the same sentence clearly has never played a Thief.

Also, you talk about stealth and lords, and then your suggestion is transparency? Stealth does not drop aggro in PvE, so changing it in any way because of PvE mobs isn’t exactly a valid argument.

Permastealth is for the hiding bit – to avoid any combat with human opponents.

The tactic (I would imagine) for killing the lord is to kill a guard, stay in stealth long enough to recover or completely reset the fight. Then re-engage to kill another guard, recover/reset. And finally kill the lord, too.

Stealth not dropping aggro allows you to keep the lord in combat while you recover. You only need to out-damage his self-heals.

Stealth is non-issue in PvE. NPCs don’t get annoyed. And nobody cares if someone is able to defeat opponent that does not learn, adapt or change tactics. Just press buttons in same order you pressed thousand times before and you get exactly the same result.

If the lord is in combat, so are you… so you can’t regen either.

The only build that can allow long term stealth is dagger/pistol with traits picked specifically for maximum inint regeneration at the cost of all else. Any thief who wants to stay stealthed must a) not hit ANYTHING and b) use every single init point they have to do so. This means that a thief using this tactic can open combat with 3 to 4 init points, this means they get one heartseaker OR one shadow shot (only if they time it such that they get their bonus 1 init per 10s to come up while they are waiting for the stealth to wear off). If they want to backstab, they cap at 2-3 init and can only do one heartseaker.

That’s it.

Staying in stealth long term represents a MAJOR commitment in build and init. It also requires not a small amount of skill to pull off (seriously, try doing it in the mists, see how long it takes you to be able to reliably stay stealthed for 30-60s it usually takes for a tower to clear, or 2-3 min for a keep.
