Overflow for World Chest Events

The solution I would like to see would be to make event chests “native only”. If it’s not your server, you can do the event, but you won’t get a chest. A secondary solution would be to have the event pop in overflow at the same time.

I too am more than a little fed up with not being able to do events on my own server.

There is no proof whatsoever that your overflow servers at events are due to guesting any moreso than they are due to high home server population.

Guests or not, if you get enough people in one place, an overflow is created.

I realize the plural of anecdote is not “data”, but before guesting I might have seen a dragon overflow once or twice a week, and ONLY on peak hours. After guesting I’m only able to get into the main playfield once or twice a week, if I show up 30-45 min before the spawn window, and it’s 4:00am (seriously, last night I was up at 3:30 and got overflowed showing up before the spawn window on The Shatterer).

Something needs to be done. It’s to the point where I can’t even do events on my own server anymore.

Whekittenone is in overflow, put any guests at the end of the list and prioritize players native to the server. This is primary an issue with dragon events on highly populated servers. We attract a LOT of guests because it is well known that we will fill up the zone and thus have an easy event… however this is a problem for natives as we can not get out of overflow to do our own events on our own servers.

Any guests who are already in the zone when an overflow is spawned would of course stay there, however the overflow list should give priority to players native to the server.

Could grenades please get a target toggle?

The targeting issue is the one and only one reason I wont use grenades. Underwater they are fun all a kitten on fire, I use them even without talents, but on land they are the single most annoying weapon in the game.

I won’t make any claims of massive fractals or pvp ranks on my engie because that would be a flat out lie… but for those with that experiance I ask one thing:

Is there a trait set up that, without a respec (IE: only changing majors, gear, and abilities) can go from tanky, to support, to dps like most all other classes can? I’m not asking for top of the line in all three, but it should be able to do the job at least average.

I’ve tried making builds that can be swapped out to do all three and I’m usually only able to pick two and utterly fail at the third. So I would really love some advice from the pros. I know we can make some amazing builds, but since they nearly all require a total respec it makes them nearly pointless for when you are not sitting in LA/Mists.

I agree. Grenade kit is so much fun underwater. I still believe 2-5 should be ground targeting, but please save me from the carpel tunnel and boredom invested in spamming “1” on land.

I don’t even use an explosive trait build, and I use grenades underwater because they are so much fun.

because most kits have traits that make them mutually exclusive. Bomb needs deep Explosives and Inventions, Elixir gun/flamethrower needs deep firearms and alchemy, Toolkit is burred in tools.

Grenade kit is one of the few that can be effectively paired with another kit since all it needs is deep explosives (thus only pairable with bomb)

While I believe the intention was to have us swap between two or more kits in a build, the trait lines make this impractical (along with the lack of stun break).

Economically it’s ok, but “player satisfaction” wise it seems not to be (at least judging by how many complaint threads you see here and on reddit every day).

Seeing prices increase hundreds of times ones income rate in an afternoon is discouraging, especially when those prices don’t seem to come down nearly as fast. It contributes to burnout and players leaving. The only question that ANet needs to consider is: does a 700g precusror keep more people playing to get it than it does drive people away out of frustration?

I fully agree that if the market will support a price, it is the right price (given sufficient compitition among sellers)… however if player happiness will not support the price then even if it is economically sound, something needs to be done.

Syeria.4812, as I also said, it was a quick look. I did not check all the precusors. Your “example” also happens to pick one of the more currently expensive markets to corner. I think you will find that Kudzu or Colossus would be far less than 8k (closer to the 2-3k range). While I agree that this is a large investment, it is not out of the realm of reality. Add in the fact that any trader wise enough to amass that kind of capital would also be wise enough to pick the best time to spring their trap, and you can quickly see that your 1200g each example is far from typical.

While I agree that supply can never be 100% controlled, that is not required for one to coner the market (at least in the short term).

A price increase of 15%+1 will give a profit, and many of these manipulations are on the order of 100% increase or more. Because supply is so amazingly slow on these items, the risk of having someone undercut you to the point where none of you items are sellable is as near to zero as you can get. By buying up all the items, you have effectively controlled the supply (in the short term) as it could be days until another item is added to the system. This is why we see this kind of “scoop them all up and relist them for twice the price” manipulations on precursors but not loadstones, their drop rate is high enough that one can not sufficiently maintain dominance before the supply undercuts you.

So while I agree that a true monopaly is not possible due to how supply is handled, because supply is so low, monopalistic behavior is both extremely easy, and rewarding.

Define “slow.”

We know for a fact that an average of 7-9 Dusks/Dawns get sold in a day. It’s still small, but it’s still quite significant.

slow enough that, with only a minor investment of time and a lot of up-front gold, one person is able to keep all sell orders <15% of their newly desired price off the market. Dusk and Dawn are also two of, if not the highest supplied precursors due to the mistic toilet. A quick look on spidy puts the others at 5 or less, anything below 20-50 is easily manipulateable by a dedicated player (and anyone with the funds to do this is going to fit in that category).

Ultimately, this whole “economy” can be boiled down to one, single, goal: a retention mechinism to keep players playing. What really needs to be asked is, is the current time needed to get a legendary precursor aiding or harming retention? Are more players sticking around (and potentially spending money) because of the price, or are more leaving because of the time needed?

That is the question we need to address, not price value, not manipulation, but does the current system help or hinder?

the lack of autocast is the sole reason I avoid grenades on land. I like the feel, I like the abilities, and just love the damage… but only when underwater and I don’t end up losing a tonne of both due to lag adding a 0.2s here and a 0.1s there to every one of my casts.

I would love to see at least the #1 skill be target centered, 2-5 can stay gtaoe. Or, as digiowl.9620 says, allow the continuous casting by pressing and holding buttons.

The point is to encourage players to be in multiple communities at once. And in that regard, guilds are working perfectly.

no, they absolutely are not.

The main issue with why repping fails is the guild chat (imho and all that). I’m only in two guilds, but I nearly always rep only one because the guild chat is more active. This of course leads the second guild chat to be even less active and it goes into a death spiral.

Because I can only see one guild chat at a time, I can only see what’s going on in one of them, I can only ask questions in one of them, and I’m only aware of guild events going on in one of them. As I get more and more interested in one guild over the other I get even less inclined to check the other.

If I was able to see multiple guild chats, this wouldn’t be as big an issue and I could actually feel like I was part of the other community, rather than popping in rarely to see if anything is actually happening.

Yes, MF is a selfish stat.

Inspecting won’t change that.

It also won’t change the Prisoner’s Dilemma nature of how MF works, nor will it adjust the Nash Equilibrium.

Inspection is a solution in search of a problem, and MF has enough problems that can not be solved by it.

Thing is, with how MF is currently set up, an inspect feature would not solve the issues (prisoners dilemma + nash equation).

IMHO a higher priority should be placed on fixing those problems, then an inspect feature becomes unnecessary.

This example, mean nothing… how much time you lose just for this challenge? if the naked player was at fully potential maybe the others die less, and maybe all of you finish the dungeon in less time.

I agree when you say that player skill is important, but all of you are totally wrong when you think that the MF user is skilled then the others. At parity of player skill, an MF user is a burden for the party.

If you’re the “GO GO GO GO, WHY ARE WE NOT GOING?!” guy, I don’t want to team with you no matter what gear you have on.

The problem with MF isn’t the lack of inspection, it’s that using MF is a pure Prisoner’s Dilemma with a Nash Equilibrium for it’s use, and the addition of an inspection will not change that.

my biggest gripe with rifles is that unless you are fighting something that will close to melee (or that you can close to them), it is <i>so dull!</i>. 1 attack and net shot…. everything else is either gap closer or close range.

There is just so little to do with it that I prefer the more dynamic and exciting p/s or the various kits that are fun in both long and short range.

That would only make the inflation worse.

ANet filling orders creates gold out of thin air, whereas player to player trade through the TP actually sucks gold out of the economy (listing fees). Having ANet fill an order would not only eliminate the inflation fighting listing fees, but make it even worse through currency generation.

Not that great for the micro, and horrible for the macroeconomy.

Engineer Versatility Challenge

So, we are meant to be the most versatile class… let’s see what we can do with that. Engies are some of the most creative and intelligent players I’ve seen, let’s see what builds we can come up with to support that.

The Rules:

1) Please post or critique a build, I would like this thread to stay on topic.
2) http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_Engineer_bugs They suck, but we need to work around them
3) there is no three.

For the actual builds, we will work on the following assumptions:

1) You have access to any and all gear for stats (and can swap as needed out of combat)
2) You have access to all skills (and can swap as needed out of combat)
3) You get ONE trait layout selection however you can swap between any individual trait (IE: a 30/0/30/0/10 could swap out Rifled Turret Barrels for Elixir Infused Bombs, but couldn’t change to a 0/30/30/0/10 for Juggernaut)

The Goal:

A single trait layout that gives solid DPS, support and tanking options.
Bonus Points for not requiring to leave combat to change roles.

I’ve very interested in seeing what people can come up with!

shield, oh man… the lols of reflecting a guy to death alone are worth it. They make any of the large wurm type mobs an absolute joke (reflect the rock spit, do a free couple K damage, laugh as it just stands there while you stack bleeds)

I run mostly with a high condition, p/s/flamethrower build.

healing power, even on guardians, scales BADLY. You are FAR better off going for additional sources of healing (traits like AH, or similar from your team) and stacking vit/toughness than stacking healing power.

There are exceedingly few situations where HP will scale better than vit/toughness would in its place.

So to answer your question: whatever you get from traits + runes that have a good auxiliary bonus you want.

try and pick up talents that support stealth and go */d. That’s what I did. When I picked up Assassin’s Reward in Accrobatics, it made things a LOT easier.
