Here’s an crazy idea that’s a little out of left field:

What if any profession could use any armor type?
With this one change you would instantly have access to a wider range of aesthetic choice for their character. Not only would your characters get a wider aesthetic choice, but you could have some really crazy builds with it but it would completely squash the idea of the “trinity”.

In order to assist with balance, you could perhaps give certain advantages/disadvantages with each type of armor. Heavy armor would give you increased armor rating, but decreased movement speed. Medium armor would give a healthy dose of both. Light armor would give you the most movement speed, but lowest armor rating. The ability to mix and match would significantly widen the range of builds and survivability.

Bizarre use cases!
Guardians could switch to medium armor to focus more on DPS, then survivability. Ele’s could wear heavy armor to boost their survivability and perhaps encourage more melee Ele’s in PvE. When was the last time you saw a D/D ele in a dungeon? (It’s rare!) And imagine what would no doubt be everyone’s nightmare? A necro in heavy armor! Good lord, it would be glorious!

One thing to keep in mind how our system works is you can’t mix heavy, medium and light armor together the way we lay out the texture means these items can never be mixed. After that while it would open up some options you always have to be careful with making profession all feel the same. This is all ready a big struggle as we want all professions to fill multiple roles but it’s important some professions have weakness that they can overcome if you let your weakest character be a toughest as your toughest then they both lose some some of what makes them different

Would a potential solution to this be to restrict the armor to all be from the same type? IE: if you put on a leather coat, all your non-medium armor is removed? (Think like how the preview works when you look at armor outside your type)

I would LOVE to see a wider variety of gearing choices (yeah, this is more horizontal than vertical, but it’s still awesome).

Here is a crazy brainstorm idea, not in anyway indicative of our direction.

What if there was vertical progression in the Fractals with gear that increased in stats but when outside of the fractals defaulted back to BiS numbers?

I am asking this because it is going to generate some left field conversation not because I think it is or isn’t a good idea.

This could be done by decreasing the normal damage and upping agony damage for most/all attacks. At low AR, damage would be similar to the way it is now but at higher AR it would make earlier fractals a lot easier.

I hope this post won’t be too long but I would like to explain why the Ascended vertical progression failed for me.

I actually like the idea of Ascended gear. It is a nice, medium term goal that fits in well between the near instant “I just dinged 80 and now I’m in full exotics” short term goal and the “dudes, I just crafted Quip!” long term goal, the problem however is how it interfaces with the horizontal progression of multiple builds.

I LOVE to make builds, try out cool, strange setups and I would change talents like I change underwear IF I could change my gear just as easily. That is why I’ve capped my progression at exotics (and in some cases, rare), I simply can’t see myself putting in the time and resources needed to craft a full set of Ascended gear only to get bored of that playstyle and want to change it a month later.

This is not even counting my alts. I will disagree with Izzy here for a second and say that I don’t find leveling up to be a grind at all, even after my 6th 80… what I do see as a grind however would be to try and get them all into anything higher than Exotics (and honestly, prior to the price crash that came with Ascended armor I thought they all would never get out of the rares).

About the only armor type I feel I can get enough out of to eventually build ascended versions of is ’zerker since that is nearly universally good for PVE. Even then however I would still like to be able to fiddle with my build by swapping out a few pieces of gear and not need to commit a month or more to a simple test.

Ascended takes too long and are too restrictive for me to be able to commit to. I want to be able to take more and more advantage of the horizontal progression without locking myself in. If legendary armor comes out with the same feature as the weapons, I will dedicate all I have to getting a set on each toon ONLY for the ability to change stats no matter how it looks.

I actually like the new change… with a little pause to get a couple ticks of SoS I can now have perma-swift without needing shouts like “Retreat!” in my build (which is ironic as I’ve never once used it to run away from anything)

ok, so I finally have a guild that runs fractals, the only issue is that I have zero AR and I’m tying to pick one of my 80s to gear up to run with them.

The big problem is that I’m a class-A alt-aholic and have trouble picking just one class to do anything. .

My current 80s are: Thief, guardian, mesmer, engineer. All are roughly geared equally for PVE (theif slightly better than the rest) and I really only have the funds to make one of them into a fractal runner.

So, I ask the wisdom that is the forums, can you give me some advice on which of the above classes tend to make the most versatile fractal runners? I’m not always sure what classes we will get to run with, so being able to do a lot of different stuff is going to be of greater value than “teh dps!”

Anet could just put a lot more objectives on the map and force zergs to separate into smaller groups.

They wouldn’t separate though. They would just clump together to take down these objectives faster one by one so everybody gets credit.

They wouldn’t be able to do that if there were too many objectives and far away from each other.

If there are enough objectives, while the enemy zerg is taking one of yours, you’re taking 5 of theirs. They try to take one back, you take 5 more. Ultimately, they would either need to divide or lose the whole map.

Right now, when the enemy realizes that one of their keep is getting attacked, they have all the time in the world to come defend. If you make the objectives so far apart that when they are all the way in the west they can’t get to the east fast enough to defend, they would have to divide and leave a team in the east for defense.

So make the maps way bigger and add a lot more tower/keeps. That’s it.
Of course, that’s not gonna happen because Anet’s servers are too flimsy.

That just creates a WvE situation where there are too few fights going on. the problem with spreading everyone out over a huge map is that, well, everyone is spread out. You need a high enough density of players for there to be actual PVP

T3 Human Cultural armor should remain exclusive to the Human race. It’s highly insulting to see a Sylvari, a Norn, an Asura or a Charr with a skin that looks 95% as the original Human Cultural Armor. There is nothing else to say about that.

kitten , I want a life where someone getting pixels that kinda sorta look like the pixels I have is classified as “highly insulting”. Sounds like a very easy lot if that’s all it takes.

Neither were Humans, Norn, or Asura. According to this the only major races around for their last awakening were the dwarves, jotun, forgotten, mursaat, and seers.

Now, you could find arguments for the proto-Norn and Asura races could have been around at the time, and I would give you that point (evolution is not THAT fast), but humans are the sticking point…. they didn’t show up until over nine thousand years after the dragons went to sleep.

One thing I also didn’t see mentioned in your post (and if I missed it, I’m sorry) is the absolutely explosive population growth the Sylvari have shown in the last 18 years. Remember that until the secondborns began there were exactly 12 Sylvari. Since then, their population has grown to the point where they are a major race. This would be similar to the entire nation of Kryta popping up in under two decades. I’m actually kind of surprised that none of the other races seem overly concerned with this… in another decade or two the Pale Tree will have a standing army over twice the size of any other race, and by the end of the century will have enough to crush all other nations combined.

I completely agree on the sale portion, but for the bidding I wouldn’t just look at it as a convenience factor. Look at level 80 exotic weapons. A large spread doesn’t do anyone any good in that market. It hurts sellers who want to instant sell. It hurts buyers who want to place a buy order for their use of the weapon later. Orders are successfully filled without being 1c overbid so infrequently that not even flippers see a benefit from the spread. The volume in the market simply isn’t high enough to pressure the bid price up to the equilibrium level it would eventually reach in theory.

Sorry, but what you just described is due to a difference in value between buyers and sellers. This is 100% due to market perception and has nothing to do with min increments. If the perception of value is closer to the middle of the split then the bids will quickly adjust to there (as there is no MAX increment).

In other words you’re saying you just have no idea how markets work?

If a market is experiencing economic profit, it’s not operating at high efficiency, and could be improved. If the gap were small enough that only accounting profits (and not economic ones) existed, it would be operating at equilibrium. The gap is due 100% to insufficient market velocity to attain equilibrium. This has absolutely nothing to do with “perception.” Do you think markets just magically start at their efficient end point?

As for the remainder of your post, I would have thought you’d be able to make it 3 sentences without contradicting yourself, but I guess I was mistaken.

Hun, I make MMO economies for a living, I have a feeling I understand economics better than an armchair dev on the internet.

It seems from your posts that you are expecting a buy order market like GW2 to behave in the same way as an exclusively seller driven market like WoW or IRL auction houses. This shows a stark lack of understanding of alternate market types.

Heck, go take a look at the trade data for Eve online (one of the few other games that has a buy order system similar to GW2, only theirs is far more complex with the opportunity for arbitrage but we can get into that another time since you seem to be having a problem with basic utility). Eve’s markets have HUGE opportunity for flipping profit, heck one of my friends does little else and is sitting on billions of ISK.

The BLTC is not some newbee IPO where no one knows its true value, 99% of the items on the market have been there for over a year and most have seen few external changes in value. The market is about as stable as it can possibly hope to be.

You say that the “volume is too low” without providing a shred of evidence, in fact the only evidence we DO have from ANet shows that volume is extremely high for most items. If you want to claim otherwise, sorry but I’m going to need some numbers to show that 1c increments, over a year, are failing to close the gap exclusively due to the fact that they are 1c and not because of player perception of value.

Your argument seems hinged on the assumption that there is exactly one single price for all items and that any deviation from that is an economic sin. You are completely ignoring behavioral economics and focusing exclusively on the standard model (which as been outdated since the 80’s). Human economicus does not, and has never existed. If you fail to account for loss aversion, change state inertia, time value of money and all the other relevant cognitive biases you can never have a good understanding of player behavior.

currently the sort button for that column (the one over the green boxes) only filters on/offline, away etc and doesn’t order by who is currently representing the guild and who isnt.

For very large guilds (TTS for example), this can make it quite problematic to find out exactly how many are actually repping the guild at the moment and who are online but flying other colours.

Can we please get the ability to filter that column based on rep status?

The only big ones there I would like are 5 and 2 in combination. I’ve been through the Mists more times than I can hope to count but I’ve never once sPVPed, it’s just a second loading screen to get to LA cheaper.

If buyers think it is worth Xg and sellers think it is worth a lot more (Yg), adding min bid increments will not change this perception of value. You will still have buys clustered at X and sells clustered at Y.

Min bid increments can actually make the problem worse if the min is too large. Nobody likes to lose money, and if the “established” buy or sell price is steady, no one wants to post a "worse: bid (lower sell price, higher buy bid). This can cause the bids to build up (at Xg and Yg) and take even longer to clear.

It only helps reach equilibrium in situations with a small bidding pool. About the only items with volume low enough for such a system to have a positive effect is the legendary market. Even the volume of precusors is too fast for a min increment to be a positive thing.

if it does move then what exactly is the problem? That someone else left money on the table to sell slightly sooner? If lots of people are undercutting you it is your fault for listing too high (more listings are being created at that price than are being cleared). The situation you describe basically tells me that someone else could have asked the exact same price as you, sold their item at (nearly) the same time you did, and made MORE money than they did by undercutting (which since it was such a small amount likely did not seriously advance their sale time). I hardly consider someone “paying” to sell a few seconds before I do a serious problem, I call that them being bad traders. They could equally complain that you got more than they did by waiting 5 more seconds to sell.

Honestly, you really have no one to blame but yourself on this.

And yes, nearly all bidding exchanges use a min system because there is an actual person running it and humans have limits. No matter how fast a person talks they can’t possibly hope to clear the volume of items in a whole day that the BLTC sees in a single second. Due to physical human limits, minimums are used to arrive at market value quicker, but it doesn’t change market value in any way. “IRL” auction houses also don’t deal in hundreds, or thousands of the exact same item being listed. Christies may have hundreds of bidders, but they don’t have 20,000 identical Monet’s on the block at once with each seller trying to undercut.

Truth be told, the closest real world analogy to what we have with the BLTC is the stock exchange, which not only allows trade with differences of a single penny, but sometimes fractions there of.

TL:DR: Your stuff is moving, someone else is willing to “pay” more to move faster. If you want to move faster than them, you need to pay more than they do by lowering your price. If you think the price you listed for is the right one, take comfort in knowing that someone undercutting you by 1c is leaving money on the table, not making as much profit as you and only selling a few seconds sooner.

No, this system does not encourage accurate pricing. Exactly the opposite. What happens is something like this…

Item’s lowest current price is, say 10g. I put in an offer for sale at 9.50.

I come back an hour later, and someone else has the item at 9.49.99. He’s essentially selling for the same price as me, but will get the first sale when someone comes to the TP and says “give me one at the lowest current price”.

I can then try to relist at 9.25. And guess what will happen? Someone else will jump in with one at 9.24.99. Ad nauseum.

People who actually try to list at legitimately lower increments get penalized. Snipers get rewarded.

You think that makes for a healthy exchange system? I disagree.

And bringing up ectos shows you really aren’t grasping the problem at all. It’s not an issue with high-volume items with low spreads. It’s an issue with low-volume items with high spreads.

I’m no saint, of course — I use the system myself as well. I just think it would be better for all if people who want to undercut an offer had to actually do it rather than skipping to the front of the line essentially for free.

And if neither of them have sold, at 9.50 and 9.49 then neither of them are the right price and you are both too high. If the price was actually 9.50 then yours will sell quickly and the person who undercut you only left money on the table by going lower (both of them would have sold at 9.50 if that was the market price).

If you want to move, price to move (put it up for 8 or 7g the first time), if you want max value then you need to accept a slower pace… and if you can’t price accurately in the first place (9.5g that never moves) then it’s your fault and you should not be protected from your own foolishness.

Sorry if I sound a little harsh, but you are basically asking the system to be dumbed down to your level because you can’t price items right.

the lack of min increments encourages players (well, smart ones) to price accurately.

If you are being undercut by 1c and not selling, well your price is too high (chances are so is the undercut). The volume of trade in this game is quite high (IIRC John Smith posted something in the rage of 140,000 ectos move in a single day), so items that are actually priced right clear pretty fast.

If you want to move fast, price to move fast. If you want good value for your item, price to get good value. Don’t complain that you can’t do both in each and every case.

TL:DR Sell for less if you want to sell quick.

I agree that only being able to use pistols, rifle or shield makes you feel kind of limited. But just equip some toolkits and you’ll be happy again.

The main issue I have with that is one of aesthetics. GW2’s endgame is so dedicated to visual progression that having to rely on weapons that can never be visually upgraded is rather problematic.

A flamethrower kit will always look like a the same kit you got in the first starter zone even after you have been 80 for a year and others are looking at legendaries.

let me make this really simple, if the exchange was never made to be casual friendly then the game should never be advertised as such.
also, if the exchange was never meant to be the primary way of getting gems then they should never have added it in the first place.

so the choice is really simple, ether cap the gold->gem price to 1G=100GEM or remove the whole system.
the game is advertised as casual friendly, make it as such.
if Anet doesn’t want to lose money, don’t add an exchange system, it’s your own kitten fault.

So tell me, how is the “casual” susposed to get the gold fora Vulcanus? or Whisperblade? or any of the other 1-200g psudo-legendary items? Most casuals I know love the gem→gold exchange as it lets them look boss without having to spend 30h a week grinding gold.

  • Confounding Suggestions – We will merge the old functionality with the new functionality. It will now have 50% change to stun on daze and increase daze duration by 25%.

Can you take a look at Temporal Curtain (focus 4). It currently has similar behavior to the Symbol of Swiftness Guardian staff 3 attack in that it gives a massive amount of swiftness if you have not, and little (or rather, nothing) if you already have the boon.

Since you are changing SoS to grant a constant 4s of swiftness per tic, can TC get an update to something similar as well? I can’t count how often I’ve lost out on a huge mobility boon because I had 0.5s left on the last one.

Something I saw addressed in the Guardian section that I would love to see equal attention for mesmers is our focus 4, Temporal Curtain.

Like the guardian Symbol of Switness, TC has “odd” behavior in that if you have no swiftness it gives you a lot, and if you have any swiftness at all (even less than a second left) it gives absolutely nothing.

Like SoS, I for one would LOVE to see Temp Curtain get a smaller upfront swiftness and a better stacking for people who already have the boon.

good change to symbol of swiftness but can we have pure of voice removes 2 condi back?

  • How is the change to symbol of Swiftness any good? So many classes move much faster then Guardians. If you want to nerf this, give us an Adept trait, that gives us flat 25% movement spead, like Warriors have it.

In many cases the symbol of swiftness change is actually a buff and not a nerf. Currently it will only apply the initial large portion of swiftness if the target does not currently have any swiftness on them. If they have swiftness on them or after that first pulse it will then add 1 second of swiftness per pulse. This is very awkward and clunky.

The change makes the spell apply a consistent 4 seconds of swiftness per pulse without the strange hidden mechanic. Basically. if you already have swiftness on the people which you using the symbol on or if you take the time to stand in the spell for the full duration then it will just be a buff. =)

Any chance of getting a similar treatment for Mesmer focus 4? Temporal Curtain currently gives a LOT of swiftness if you have none (same as symbol) and zero if you have any swiftness at all.

More than once I’ve ran through a curtain and had less than one or two seconds of swiftness and gotten nothing for it.

. It was advertised before launch that gw2 was going to be casual friendly, and that you could leave and come back and not be behind in best in stats gear.

It was also said that exotics were going to take a moderate amount of time to get and that they expected it to be a medium term goal. Since they utterly failed at that (exos are WAY too easy to get), they inserted Ascended to fill the gap they had originally planned for exotics.

Please remove/increase collection limit.

1 byte = 8 bit can have max 256 and 256 looks ugly so it is 250^^

to rise this cap they need to make more room on there servers and this is a lot money – its not just a number^^

but i agree it would be nice to have more – i even would pay gems for it like 800 for 250 more up to an cap from 10x or something like this

And adding more to the stack wouldn’t really solve the problem, you would still be capped at max, only now you would have 1000 in your bank rather than 250.

no. Because if you could then they would not be able to give out free exotics at glory lvl 1 and we would be right back to a PVP gear treadmill.

And no one wants that.
