Honestly scepter for Mesmer is one of my favorite weapons. If your set up right with a glamour build and use with focus and staff. It’s easy to get 3k confusion on 80-90% of players, 5k confusion about every other time, and 7k confusion quite a few times a day. Glamour build is very good at one on one fights, and is quite effective for 1-2 and 1-3 situations. With that being said I still see the glamour build being solid and useful event after the 50% reduction.
So after the nerf, you’ll be doing 3,5k damage “quite a few times a day” while you can simply shatter away with a power build and reliably get way more.
and to all the people crying doomsday about the confusion nerf, confusion by design was never meant to be a hard cc, it’s meant to be a soft cc like retaliation. however in wvw, you can spec the damage and duration so high that it’s effectively a 10second daze.
It’s the counterpart to interrupts in GW1, except you have a choice if you want to be interrupted or take the damage. And they could just have reduced base duration for confusion applied by glamour fields from 5s to 3s, then it would have been ~7s with +duration. They also could have changed confusing enchantments because that’s the only op glamour trait. Simply reducing the damage by 50% without any accompanying changes like removing the duration cap and changing base durations is just crude and lazy.
I literally started laughing when I read the second sentence and couldn’t stop until the end of your post.
They could just use the same system they’re using for PvP now, since they’re splitting PvE and WvW anyway: everybody gets the same equipment. Then we also don’t have to care about ascended gear any more which isn’t available in WvW at all.
/e: doublepost fixes the page... update the bloody forum software already.

If confusion wasn’t so overpowered in the WvW’s ZvZ environment, first, noone would complain and noone would build and gear so many mesmers. Btw a power that give the choice to activate any skill/cleanse and get damaged or wait doing nothing getting damaged by other regulars attacks is a kind of broken power that I would compare to a SINK action typed (This power effect: target pass his turn to use a skill on every turns or die or cleanse it but it reapply immediately to be sure noone will ever complain about it^^ lol). Good nerf well deserved.
There would have been ways to fix it without making it completely useless.

People running with rabid gear will be pretty upset, including me, if there’s no compensation since confusion was the only damage condition mesmers had broad access to, and it already is laughable in PvE. All other condition abilities and traits are even more laughable, we have winds of chaos which is random and… that’s it, pretty much.
Anyone who says Mesmer’s have any real cond’s besides confusion simply is new to the class.
Mesmer’s alternate conditions are so medicore building around them is a huge mistake, especially considering I can use zerker and literally one shot half the wvw players out there.
Confusion was the only real condition a mesmer has as far as build concerns go.
I would love to see confusion removed from Cry of Frustration now and make it Bleeds or poison. Poison would be amazing as a heal debuff which mesmer really lack.
How about each clone applies 2seconds of poison so you could get a 8 second stack.
Exactly. They could also give a huge buff to confusion duration and remove the 10s cap now as an easy solution which would also help in PvE, considering there are mobs that attack extremely slow (risen brutes for example). If they simply nerf confusion damage by 50% without any compensation I’m sitting on rabid equipment worth 500k karma and lots of gold that can go to the trashcan considering there will be absolutely no use for it any more.
(PS, I know confusion won’t be nerfed in PvE, but its duration should be buffed there - if this is imbalanced for enemies attacking quickly, apply DR or make stacks disappear per attack or whatever, there’s a multitude of solutions to this.)
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
The solution to this are diminishing returns. But that would actually require some programming effort and probably server ressources of course, it’s way easier to just hit everything with the nerf bat like they’ll do with confusion instead of working on a proper educated solution. See 3.3 Mechanics: http://www.wowwiki.com/Area_damage_caps
Before nerf one or two mesmers could take down a zerg…
Yeah, and now tell us which skills exactly they use for that and what the enemy has to do to make this work. I’m really in suspense already. This is exactly the kind of completely far-fetched uneducated exaggeration that’s slowly ruining the game.
Just because shatter mesmers are really good, doesn’t make condition mesmers suck compared to other profession’s condi specs.

I must have a different definition of lazy than you do. Unless you mean by lazy that they’re not just making random changes based on what fans say, because that’s the surest road for an MMO to implode.
There have been tons of proposals on how to fix confusion without making it unviable. Yet, they’re going the easy way of simply reducing its damage. Same for retaliation. Another example would be AE damage - there would be better ways to handle it than a hard cap (I’m all against simply removing the cap). Another example? The changes to portals. Or the way conditions work in general, especially considering the hard cap in PvE.
So it seems the opposite is true - they listen to whoever is crying the most on the forums, plus they’re always choosing the easiest, yet worst solution.
Doing things properly is another one of those vague terms used by people who feel they know better than the devs. They know properly but the devs don’t. Good. Enjoy your knowledge of proper.
Devs aren’t gods. They’re actually explicitly asking how people would do things in the forums quite often. Why? Because dedicated players spend way more time in the game than any developer ever could, they know way better how the game actually evolves as long as no internal statistics are required.
Anyway, since you’re not playing the game and not interested, why bother posting?
Because I’ll turn into one of those haters only posting in the forums to tell people what ruined the game and why they quit playing. I’ll first wait for the final patch though, the confusion nerf isn’t that bad if it’s accompanied by a huge buff to mesmers when it comes to applying other conditions. Which are still useless against fortifications, which they’ll hopefully address as well, either by making them immune to damage or susceptible to conditions.
Where exactly did they say this?
People keep saying they’re going to change confusion and I haven’t heard or seen this anywhere, lol.

(Just fixing the thread because they can’t fix their forum software.)
I actually wouldn’t mind a confusion nerf that much if there were other viable condition builds or if there were any accompanying buffs which would also be useful in PvE. They’re breaking confusion instead of fixing it, in general they won’t fix conditions at all as it seems, so screw GW2.
I don’t really care about GW2 anymore, by now everbody should have noticed that they’re really lazy when it comes to fixes, always going the primrose path for little to no effort instead of doing things properly. Didn’t login for a while now, and after what I heard about the upcoming patch, I probably won’t return.
Where exactly did they say this?

Confusing enchantments was op because it allowed for area denial without a cap. Removing an AE cap would allow for total area denial, either with damaging capabilities or boons like retaliation. It would break the game.
These would have been proper ways to fix confusion:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Confusion-1/first#post1886024
Well, at least now I could spec back to a power build which is also viable in PvE, but probably I’ll just quit playing as I won’t spend another 500k karma on gear.
I actually made a suggestion, or even two suggestions, on how to fix confusion here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Confusion-1/first#post1886024
If they go the simple route of just nerfing confusion damage to what it is in PvP, they’ll have to buff mesmers’ capabilities of applying other conditions, or condition builds will become completely unviable since power shatter builds are way more powerful, which means I just wasted 500,000 karma on gear, which means I’ll quit the game.
There’s no need for the GPU to boost if you’re limited by the CPU.
but when you face a condition player for a few seconds, no condition removal in this game will help you. They all have cooldowns, a condition players laughs at.
Because condition specs have to be able to deal damage without being purged all the time. They’re already limited somehow compared to direct damage.
They can nerf phantasmal rogue to hell once they change deception so it doesn’t require a target. Then they can go on and nerf ele’s vapor form while they’re on it.
We don’t need gear checks, we need sanity checks.
Portal is a glamour field which has an AE cap. The teleport itself is not an AE.
As far as absolute points go, rabid is strictly better for condition damage as toughness scales higher with tuning crystals, scales from undead runes, and scales from chaos 25 (not applicable for a glamour build obviously).
Plus it scales way better with heals. The majority of damage you take is direct.
That’s quite similar to what I proposed as a change to confusion:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Confusion-1/first#post1886024
http://dragonseason.com/Front/tabid/124/EntryId/212/Lunch-with-Colin-Johanson-Part-III.aspx
There’s a cap on condition stacks of 25. In a scenario where you have two thieves attacking a boss and one of them can achieve a stack of 25 by themselves, the other one essentially becomes useless because they’ve got nothing to stack on. Is anything being done to address that to make them less redundant?
Colin: Currently no. Interesting statistic for you: every condition in the game costs server bandwidth. ‘Cause we have to track how often the condition is running, what the duration of that condition is and what the stack is. So the more stacks we allow, the more expensive it gets because we’re tracking every additional stack on there. And so we could say, you can have infinite stacks. Number one: that becomes really unbalanced. But number two: it’s actually extremely expensive for us, on a performance basis. That’s one of those weird, kind of back-end server issues that can help make game designer decisions regardless of what you want to do with it.
That actually made me facepalm hard. I wonder if Devon has a different attitude towards this as it’s just plain nonsense. The only unbalance is that there’s no such cap on direct damage.
There’s not a zerker problem. There’s an anything but zerker problem, apparently. lol
Well said
what the uking problem whit zerker? learn to play and leave the other use whatever they want. Jesus Christ why so many jelly?
“Learn to play” is probably the most stupid answer to this as there’s nothing you could learn that makes you bypass a cap. Except learn to hack their servers.
Because MMO means dark metal heavy armor with spikes and flames.
Did you know using Mists to port for free is supposedly an exploit from the view of the developers?
It’s not.
Yeah, a bunch of skilless zergers want to keep the limit in tact because they are too bad to get out of the AoE. Big shock. That is my point. These players will never ever get good at the game, and they are missing out on a ton of fun by sticking to this mindless fighting style where its a good thing to stand in AoE.
Yep, because everybody with a different opinion just can’t play. Totally not related to balancing problems and area denial. That’s the spirit, keep going.
I thought about it, but our condition applying abilities are actually quite limited compared to other classes, except for confusion of course (which is pretty useless in PvE as we all know). I didn’t go into dueling and on crit at all, but I’m not playing PvE.
/e: I wouldn’t use Blinding Befuddlement outside of glamour builds.

Short answer: no.
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ is also quite helpful as it shows the effective HP, which expresses your durability against direct damage when vitality and toughness are combined. Just keep in mind that toughness doesn’t affect condition damage, while heals don’t scale with vitality.
If Portals aren’t going to be Mesmer-exclusive, then I’d like the same access to Swiftness that other classes get for free.
Oh my god, THIS.
I hate having to keep a focus on me at all times, or sacrificing runes for swiftness. It isn’t fair.
+1, give portals to everybody if you want, then I’m not forced to use it anymore. Reliable swiftness would be way more important to me.
I feel you tricked me into clicking on this thread, so as a mesmer, I think that should be an elite skill exclusive to our class :p
Nice try though.
Does WoW have this? They don’t add things WoW has as it seems, no matter how useful.
I only live to serve!
Then go make me a sammich, my gf’s stuck in SAB and I feel you’re the one to blame for my starvation.
Just waiting for a different ranged mainhand. Scepter ist just...meh.
Have fun, and rest assured that we’ll never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you, never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.
Read my post again please. And if a post-it is your idea of security... well. Just ask Gaile how many accounts have been compromised by friends, partners and especially younger siblings.
Is your power supply sufficient? The GTX 295 is quite a power hog.
While they’re on it, they should also fix the target nearest enemy function and make mesmer clones attack the current target instead of whatever is considered "near". The countless yellow mobs I aggroed just by dodging...
Although I’m kind of with you on that long term thing, simply playing the game, even over a long time, won’t give you enough gold to buy everything required for a legendary. It depends on what you do - and I don’t consider grinding dungeons or events as "playing a game" at all.
I’m still not quite sure if the OP is actually serious or just trolling...
Here’s a list of all the areas you should have found:

God no, don’t do this. The only thing you’ll achieve is forgetting your password and making it a major annoyance to type it, any good brute force tool (e.g. John the Ripper) doesn’t care about 1337 speak if the DB should ever get compromised. Just use a long password or better a sentence, about 20 characters are sufficient, but keep it reasonable. In this case, length is what matters. Special characters also don’t hurt of course.
Live attacks don’t matter anyway - they’re not going to try passes on the production system as the account would be blocked and it’s just too slow. They’ll use compromised PCs and accounts where people use the same password for their E-Mail accounts for example. So with a unique password and the authenticator, you’re safe until a trojan actually intercepts your login - then pretty much nothing helps.
This still holds true for the biggest part: http://xkcd.com/936/
Although advanced tools like the one mentioned above are capable of cracking almost every password you could possibly invent, unless it’s really, really long and complex. Don’t use correct horse battery staple =) Or bible quotes, lyrics and stuff like that, always use something unique.
