There would have been ways to really "fix" it instead of just nerfing it to the ground.

ANet just didn’t want to. Worst thing is that it’s still completely useless in most PvE situations, especially compared to power shatter builds and that there has been absolutely no compensation whatsoever for breaking a major class mechanic. Engis still have access to other conditions, mesmers’ options are laughable.
Made my equipment useless, -1/10.

No. You can iterate through the other 21 threads by changing the number in the link. Often suggested, won’t happen (ever, hopefully).
The AoE limit is due to technical limitations.
I totally believe that. The same kind of “technical limitations” that prevented you from separating NA/EU reset times I guess. Oh wait a second…
I agree, the number of currencies in the game is ridiculous.
They could also simply drop to your feet once your inventory is full. But for some reason, ANet is incapable of implementing such a simple change.
I seriously hope the DEVS are going to reimburse players in some way, I myself spent over 40g building and gearing my Mesmer only for it to be shelved and all my hard earned gear and ascended items gathering dust in the bank.
I asked for either a refund of the 500k karma I wasted on rabid gear or that they change it to berserker’s or night’s. I don’t even care about my weapons, runes, sigils or jewels as they haven’t been expensive really. Their answer was “At this time, we are unable to fulfill your request, but we encourage you to contact us in the future we can help you with other issues or concerns.”
Well, screw them. Not gonna play anymore until they compensate for conditon builds, but I’ll not get tired of telling people why ANet is the worst company in the world on every platform that’s available. Nerd rage ftw.
Btw., can you set traits and equipment separately for WvW and PvE now or did they just separate some numbers?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Confusion-1/first
This would have been a fix for confusion, also making it viable in PvE in the process. But that would have required actual work of course, instead of just changing one number.
Don’t worry, they’ll fix it by removing swords. Or mesmers.
It would be op compared to single target damage. Everybody would roll a strong AE class. Or groups would focus on zerging with retaliation, which would also be op and it would encourage zerging even more. They have to implement a diminishing returns solution where damage scales with the number of targets affected, like WoW (bad word, I know) does.
Worst patch ever. Confusion is still useless in 99% of PvE and there’s no compensation for condition mesmers in WvW, they didn’t even fix the scepter.
Yeah, there’s already way too much inconsistency in the game that’s both annoying and confusing, especially for new players. No exceptions.
While they’re on it, allow costume brawls only on these arenas as well. They’re breaking every last bit of immersion.
Seems like they’re sometimes having problems with items that stack (bandit cave bombs anyone?) or just don’t care about polycounts. See here for example:
http://i.imgur.com/n22xNal.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/iCgwAfw.jpg
That are rare occasions though (never checked if this was fixed, I submitted it as a bug).
I’m more concerned with the high CPU usage, both client- and serverside which mainly hits you in WvW and large world events.
Not released yet, as usual. And "never play on patch day".
Well I said "often", so I’m less wrong
My test avatar was a Sylvari elementalist. ... Every time you are defeated in battle (which happens fairly often when soloing)
Karma, despite being more rare than copper
Wat.
He focuses on crafting too much, and imo experience isn’t that valueless - with enough skill points, you can craft items that are really expensive.
Over 1000 players took the time to sell this item on the auction house at a premium of 1 copper coin over what any npc vendor would pay them. Given that the auction house charges 5%, these players are actually losing at least 4% of the value of their goods by joining the economy.
That doesn’t mean the economy is broken, that means people are stupid.
The item economy is so bad that essentially all items of white, blue, and green quality are junk items. There is a “sell junk” button that lets you sell all items that have no game use. If this button sold all white, blue, and green quality items (which was all the items I encountered up to L64) with one click, this would have been more useful.
Obviously, he never tried salvaging.
They even hired a conventional economist late in the development cycle, implying that they realized that this was important to the product success. Unfortunately, this seems to have been too little, too late.
Judging by the numbers, GW2 is doing pretty well.
The comments are actually more readworthy than the "review".

Duels would actually fit into an MMORPG thematically. Just make it so there are open arenas all over the world, there already are arenas in several places which are maintained by NPCs, I remember one where I had to fight various mobs for example. It wouldn’t affect anybody who doesn’t want to duel.
Eragon is a prime example, a book with flaws but a potential (if a little cliche) great story arc’ yet the film creators completely screwed that up.
That’s debateable, considering the book is written so badly that the author either must have been drunk the whole time, suffered severe brain damage or actually be eight years old.
1) Hall of Monument items should be purchasable via the Gem Store. I know that these were put in place to “reward” GW1 players, however these skins are already available in PvP and it is unreasonable to expect people to pay for and play GW1 to use the skins in GW2. Give people the option to buy them with gems, but continue to make them free to those who have earned it them in GW1. This is not a huge ask. I have friends (and have met many people online) who have said that they have seen weapon skins that would be perfect for their character, however due to not playing GW1, they have compromised for items that don’t have the aesthetic they wanted. It’s triple win….Anet gets people buying gems, GW2 players get their skins, GW1 players are still special cause they still get theirs free.
There are other things that are time gated, I never played GW but imo it’s really fair to give dedicated GW players something special for their effort.
2) Mesmers need a speed boost (perhaps rework a signet). They are way too slow. One speed boosting ability on a focus doesn’t cut the cheese and the “more speed for more illusions” trait doesn’t say much to people not wanting to fight to simply cross terrain.
Absolutely. The choice between a signet randomly (rarely) applying swiftness and having to run with a focus is laughable considering what access to swiftness other classes have.
9) Legendary stats should reflect ascended tier stats. They should also not all be Pow, Tough, Vit. Make a Legendary weapon-smith where you can decide its stats (e.g. carrion, soldier, etc) once and once only so that they can be customized to a players build.
Legendaries will be upgraded to ascended, but only once ascended weapons are in the game (which is fine). Problem is they never answered if transmuted legendaries will be upgraded to ascended either, which is kind of a show-stopper.
12) Lower the price of karma weapons and armor that is not exotic tier. 63000 karma for a rare item seems a bit steep for something that has the same stats as something that could be bought for 20 silver on the trading post.
I’d guess that that mechanic is in place so you cannot salvage the items for ectos, considering karma is relatively easy to gain?
13) Exotic level back braces should be more available, as with exotic level water masks.
Agreed.
14) The “listing fee” on the Trading Post is a joke. I have never heard anyone say anything positive about it. Get rid of it.
That would make flipping way too easy and would really hurt the economy badly.
15) A dye that is unlocked on a character should be available across all characters on that player’s account, especially considering what people are forced to pay for some of them.
Agreed.
18) Can you release Enchanted Dyes so that you can color particle effects on non-legendary weapons. (Perhaps at the Legendary Weapon-smith mentioned earlier?)
That would be pretty cool.
Are Illusionary Riposte and Counter Blade still bugged as described in the wiki?
I like to keep combat ranged, so I’m neither a fan of illusionary persona nor mainhand sword, which basically only leaves gs or scepter combined with staff. That’s why I want another ranged mainhand or a fix to scepter, as it’s really ridiculous in its current state. Especially considering the buff to illusionary images is now more than negated by the confusion nerf.
Please take a look at your FPS Limiter, something just isn´t right there.
It’s been broken for…ever, despite having been reported countless times. Just shows how much work is done on the engine.
Actually, I don’t get what the OP wants. The game is currently split into PvE/WvW and PvP, post patch it will be split into PvE and WvW and PvP. Also it’s contradictory in itself.
PvPers are smallest, yet most vocal minority in the game (i.e., crying the most). They shouldn’t get that much attention and all balancing approaches should be strictly separate for PvP.
I agree with the base damage and that stack damage shouldn’t sum up, but I’d make it so that instead of stacking duration, stacks wear off on skill use as described here. That’s a more balanced approach, stacking duration would require a decrease in base duration and in the end it wouldn’t feel a lot different to burning. If the stacks wear off on use, you have the option to just burn five stacks by triggering actions quickly and taking the damage instead of using a cleanse or waiting for it to wear off automatically. If the duration stacks, you can only wait or cleanse.
In my experience the only difference between a hardcore and a casual gamer is that hardcore gamers discriminate, whereas casual gamers don’t care who they’re playing with.
Core gamers often only do that because of the absurd stupidity and resistance to learning many people show. I’ve met a lot of really helpful core gamers in dungeons, but their effort is often rewarded with ingratitude.
Can I please have your account Provost? It sounds awesome and I just started playing the game about three weeks ago. I may be jaded after a years worth of gameplay but so far I’m enjoying it immensely.
The game hasn’t been out for a year lol
You didn’t read his post lol
stop crying about mesmer downed state, we have it good.
we are only one of two total classes that are guaranteed to interrupt a stomp.
Was that a joke or some kind of sarkasm? I hope so.
I’m not using it for damage so much, but for the boons and survivability.
confusion is op
Confusion wasn’t op, some of the skills/traits that applied confusion were. They could have either fixed these or changed confusion as a whole instead of just nerfing it to the ground. They’re slowly reducing build variety instead of increasing it.
I am a casual gamer. I have a full time job, family commitments, and (gasp!) other hobbies. I typically play GW2 for about 2-3 hours a day after I come home from work, or up to 6 hours sometimes during weekends, when I do not have other engagements.
I’m playing way less. Still I rage. Why? Not because of some rectified nerf. It’s because they listen to the whiners and take the primrose path of hitting single numbers with the nerf bat instead instead of taking some time for an education decision and a real fix. Again and again and again…
im waiting for tomorrow’s patch and see what changes they made to gw2 especially to WvW content. This is make or break for me. We been crying out loud since BWE days the things that needs improvement in WvW but we got zero. All they did was remove orbs, introduce skill lag and make some pointless wvw rank which is character bound.
Havent touched gw2 for 3-4 weeks now, if Anet doesnt listen to us im sorry but they wouldnt give me no other option but to jump the ship which i believe i already have.
Same here. Unless they give us some compensation in the condition department to keep condition builds viable, I’m done with GW2.
Hey guys, quick rundown.
Phenom ii x4 955 @3.6ghz
HD 7950Getting around 50-60% usage on both gpu and cpu with only around 50fps sitting and 30 moving. WvWvW is aorund 15-25. Anyone know why it wouldnt use 100%? or anyone have/ fixed the same problem?
Answer: Your CPU is bottleneck.
I also have 7950, but my CPU is i5-3570k.
My GPU is constantly at 100% usage. No, its not… 100% gpu usage in all other games and cpu looks fine. Not sure how you managed 100%, but yippee for you.
GW2 isn’t all other games. All other games run fine for me, GW2 still is CPU limited. And the task manager simply doesn’t show the real load.
Actually, it’s ~10 stacks fully buffed (unless you’re talking about PvP). Not that hard to reach for an engi or in a group. It had to be fixed - but not broken. This would have been a good chance to fix confusion so it’s not op in WvW and not useless in PvE. Too bad ANet wasn’t willing to spend an hour on thinking about how to fix a major mesmer class mechanic. So switch to a gs power build and melt faces with mind wrack as long as it lasts before it’s hit by the mindless nerf hammer. But I guess portals will be next, at least that’s what people now start crying about the most and as we know, ANet listens to the whiners. Better just roll a warrior.
I’m still content with this proposal:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Confusion-1/first
Yeah, it was unbalanced. But instead of fixing these skills or confusion in general, they decided to break in in every aspect. It’ll now be unviable in 99% of PvE (like before), WvW and PvP. They could have done this instead, but that would have actually required some thinking and tweaking instead of just changing a single number, so they took the primrose path as usual.
I wouldn’t even mind if it was just a random condition. But it was the condition for mesmers, just look at what access other classes have to different conditions. We pretty much have confusion and that’s it. My rabid gear will be worthless after the patch hit if they didn’t implement a huge buff to mesmer condition builds.
Plus, confusion affects many traits and skills as it’s one of our core mechanics.
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
Considering the new flavor of the month is portals, I’m optimistic it’ll be hit by the nerf bat next.
You do know that Portals were nerfed twice already?
1. Increased cooldown from 60s to 90s
2. Reduced number of ‘charges’ from unlimited to 20
Wasn’t the sarcasm in my post quite obvious? ANet nerfs what people cry about, and now they’re crying about portals. Next will be mind wrack burst, then the rate at which clones are created, then stealth and distortion. Until mesmers are finally worthless and warriors are the only viable class.
You are massively overreacting. I seriously doubt elementalists will fall apart in WvW or PvE because of the nerfs that are coming. And you can’t claim eles aren’t in need of a nerf in sPvP.
I’m not an ele but a mesmer, and rabid gear just became useless in WvW, it already was less than average in PvE. Our whole class is built around confusion, including many traits, and we’re probably the worst class at applying any other damage conditions. If they don’t massively buff some some other aspect, the patch will break condition builds in WvW and it doesn’t help with PvE either, which means I’ll have to acquire a totally new set of gear, including runes and jewels, which means another 500k karma and lots of gold.
SLI doesn’t work well with GW2, but even when disabling it you’ll see low GPU usage in many situations as even at 4GHz, you’ll still be heavily CPU bound at times.
Considering the new flavor of the month is portals, I’m optimistic it’ll be hit by the nerf bat next.
Confusion have been nerfed in sPvP for so long, I wonder what make you think it’d remain the same forever in WvW. The problem with Confusion is that players proc it much much faster than monsters. Hence the nerf in PvP. Now that WvW is getting specific rules, it can receive the same treatment than in sPvP.
It should be obvious that PvP and WvW are very different, that’s why they’ve been separated from the beginning. You can focus a lot more in PvP, applying higher stacks of confusion, you can also easily play for area denial locking down capture points, also in WvW you can retreat behind frontlines and fortifications and you’re constantly cleansed. If they want to take that route, they should give everybody the same equipment in WvW for free as well, because many people will have to re-equip completely now.
They could just have excluded on dodge traits from triggering confusion instead of mindlessly nerfing it to the ground. Seems they didn’t think a second about why PvP is very different from WvW, just like WvW is different from PvE. They also didn’t bother to think about what the real problem with confusion was, which is uncapped area deniaI, although we have to wait for the patch to confirm this. If they don’t generally change how confusion / glamour traits work, they don’t even fix the core problem and it still sucks in PvE.
Anyway, glamour bombing will still be sufficient for loot tagging in WvW. Which also is a problem, stupid game and reward mechanics encouraging stupid gameplay.
I’m sure they’ll come up with a stunningly brilliant solution, as always. </sarkasm>
Point is, they don’t have a public test server. They’re testing changes with a closed group of few invited players from what we know.
Even if the video wasn’t pointless to begin with (we don’t need to discuss that 25 stacks of confusion can deal way more than 10k damage, everybody can do the math - it’s more a question of probability), there would have been solutions:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Confusion-1/first
The easiest being to exclude on dodge traits from triggering confusion, which was a proposal I often heard.
I play all professions, but my main is an Asura engineer. She also has a good access to confusion e.g. prybar, static shot, concussion bomb and pain inverter (and she has also access to retaliation, although that is more or less random). That confusion nerf is also hitting non-mesmer! Some engi builds e.g. the HGH engineer just had their best defense (= confusion) against glass cannon thieves nerfed to ground. But instead of crying like babies, engis keep on going, as they have always been nerfed with every update.
