Also, our Phantasms aren’t normal attacks (as shown above in the video).
Why should they be subject to things affecting normal attacks?
Considering the patchnotes, ANet thinks they are. They’re probably smoking pot all day since Obama won or something.
It wouldn’t be an MMO if everybody was in his own instance. Just a bunch of people playing the same game. There have been massive performance problems and ANet should have known this would happen, everybody joked that the servers would die the moment the event starts. It also didn’t feel very “massive and epic”, because all I saw was random people popping out of nowhere and disappearing again or being one-shot by those creatures. Took me a few minutes just to figure out what was causing that massive damage in the invisible zerg and another few minutes to actually kill something because of lag and instantly being killed, then the event was over before I could even deliver one sample. At least I saw the cutscenes. Then there was a badly (or barely) beta tested event chain with NPCs being killed way too fast to be able to contribute to the event and finally a bugged NPC.
But still it was fun. Somehow. Maybe because we were laughing so hard in Teamspeak about how naive ANet was (again). I guess they beta test with a few people and think “this will work out somehow”, knowing there will be hundreds of people doing the same thing on the live servers. Sigh.
I hope this is a high priority fix that’ll be in the usual monday’s update at the latest.
I’m experiencing the same, at least everytime I change zones via waypoints.
Lets make a post about one bad player and blame it on the increased loot from dungeons, because having a bad player in a dungeon has never hapenned before the update!
We blame MF, which is a stupid attribute.
This is what invisible bags are made for.
Yes, unfortunately it does. Good luck trying to create an illusion on an invulnerable boss trying to increase your ether fest healing.
ANet has proven that their beta tests don’t work out. So please, finally give us a public beta server. We don’t have to test new content before it’s released, just lock instances for example. If an instance is broken, it’s not that bad. But every player logging in and playing normally für just a few minutes would have noticed the new bugs and regressions (the long loading screen bug seems familiar) that were introduced with the latest update. And this happens over and over again with many updates.
So just let us willing players find those bugs before all players, including us, have to suffer from them on the live servers.
The OP never verified that MF gear was even part of the equation. While I can see that MF gear could conceivably cause an issue, so could a glass cannon setup or poor trait/skill choices.
he fought the boss in his underwear and during fights, he transformed into the candy corn monster, for the MF buff.
Doesn’t that sound pretty obvious?
I’m really curious about that too, adding a game mode that is designed to have many people in one place and not considering this is pretty… ahem.
Regression testing is for beginners, we like it hardcore.
http://i50.tinypic.com/fxro5.png
So with each infusion giving +5 on stats other than agony even at fine rarity, the difference will be even bigger.
So the OP faces now issues every other class has and finds it gamebreaking? What ? I also need to have LOS in wvwvw to hit someone. Why should you be excluded?
We don’t have a decent ground target AoE, the one we had was already nerfed. Greatsword mesmers don’t have any.
There are a couple things here that are slapping Fans in the face. It goes against the president’s set by GW1, the game was marketed to break traditional MMO molds, Vertical progression with cosmetic gear upgrades were also preached over the course of development. A Tier of gear being added to an MMO without a level increase is not the norm. And this feels like a paradigm shift just 3 months into the game.
I don’t know how accurate this is but the new Armor tier is out on the GWDB now and it appears and Infusions will also have a stat as well as the Agony Resistance so it’s more them “a little” increase.
Adelbern’s Royal Signet Ring (Infused)
+51 Power
+72 Toughness
+4% Critcal Damage
Ring
Required Level: 80
Infusion
+32 Toughness
+18 Power
+4% Critical Damage
+5 Agony ResistancesWho thinks the current level 80 content is going to have to be beefed up to accommodate this new gear?
Yeah.
http://i50.tinypic.com/fxro5.png
And that’s only fine infusions, there’ll probably be some with higher rarity and better stats later.
Mesmers still suffer from the world completion star problem after such a long time. There’s obviously not a team specialized on each class, or – sorry – whoever is in this team has no idea of the game, which is pretty much the only way to explain the portal change for example. Which is actually not a nerf or a change but just a case of “uh, let’s do something and see if it works out”. Nope.
Phants now cast as normal attacks – A needed change. People keep crying about how Phantasms are a part of our class and by making them miss or get blocked (and need LoS) they’ve essentially made our core mechanic blockable. Uh… Hello? If you dodge roll away from Hundred Blades, a melee based attack, you have just avoided a Warriors core mechanic (melee burst). If you leave the Meteor Storm area, you’ve just ruined an Elementalists Core Mechanic. This change was needed, we are now on par with every other class.
Attacks by illusions should be blocked and so on, not their creation.
Also WvW was never meant to be fair or competitive like PvP. ANet officially said that. It’s meant to be an epic battle in a PvE environment.
They fixed things that weren’t broken, nerfed things that didn’t need to be nerfed (some probably unintentionally) and didn’t think about changes, like the portal change which doesn’t change any of the apparent problems it causes in WvW (why not simply limit the portal to a maximum of five ports and actually fix its duration while they’re working on it anyway?)
I feel pretty much like the OP. I don’t even do a lot of WvW/PvP, and I’ll probably drop my mesmer. I won’t start playing another class though, with everything that happened lately I’ll probably quit playing GW2 altogether. If that happens, I’ll definitely never touch any game made by ANet again. I’m just very disappointed, and I usually don’t jump at the mimimi train.
Many things ANet does are somehow a symptom of their general failure. This isn’t limited to the mesmer class, I’m well aware that other classes are frustrated as well, and I’m with all of them. That’s why I speak of symptoms and why I won’t reroll.

I can already get 1-shot from some Thief builds. I imagine this will only worsen when the new ascended gear hits.
Also get ascended gear, problem solved.
So say i run a build with 1500 power including all gear and traits and such, with an upgrade from Exotic to Ascended (full upgrade all 12? slots) i’d still only get +100 power from the difference and thats taking every piece as a chest piece the real value is more than likely 50-75 at best.
Regardless with my current “build” and exotics thats still only a 10% increase in damage… which is less than equipping a bloodlust sigil. Or traiting something that boosts +power. (Guardians have a signet that does +90 power which is definately alot more than this upgrade will give)
Edit: Actually its less than 10%, its 6.6% increase. :p
Please note this is theory crafted and based off the assumption that all stats will go up by 8%… it also uses the largest possible values available. If I’ve made a mistake somewhere in my calculations please do let me know.
You didn’t consider all stats, equipment doesn’t have only one stat. So not only power will go up by 8%, precision will too. Or vitality, or whatever. So it’ll be about or more then 10%. In the end, in a 1vs1 situation in WvW it will make a difference. In PvP it doesn’t matter, in WvW zergs it doesn’t really matter (except you’re running in a fully equipped team), in PvE it doesn’t really matter.
The point is that it’s not required to be en par with other players.
Are you serious? You can say that about any mmo then. And sorry but it IS required if you want to do good. Don’t hand me this load of BS saying it isn’t required. WoW isn’t required to be on par either.
I can’t believe how people can even justify their comments when they basically flat out lied and doing the complete opposite. I bet if they said the sky is green the same people defending their comments here would find a way to defend that too.
You should try reading my comment again (probably not only the first sentence) and not leave out the relevant part when quoting. I said the exact opposite of what you understood.
A mesmer spamming AoE? Interesting.
Well, there’s also a lot of facepalming in GW2 :p
So with that in mind, how is grinding for dungeon tokens not grinding? Or the new gear tread mill not a gear treadmill?
The point is that it’s not required to be en par with other players. The “best” gear when it comes to stats is always relatively easy to get. Well it was until now, considering the amount of time it’ll take to get ascended gear will eventually fill the gap between exotics and legendaries.
I won’t get any more relatively expensive (exotic) items until we know what’ll happen with the ascended items.
Exactly. And 8% is only for the secondary attributes since the ring we know is a MF ring, as I already said. For a full ascended set with power as a primary attribute, the difference will be higher, which will also increase the overall (including traits and base stats) difference.
No, it’s likely the 8% will also apply to the main stat. It’s just that you start from more so numerically you get a bigger increase but relatively it’ll probably still be 8%
You’re right, from rare to exotic it’s just about 1% difference for the main stat. I didn’t consider that the percentage values for crit, MF and so on are counted differently.
Meh, ever heard of breaks? That’s a wall of text. Anyway, I found your problem just by looking at the first line: “So i played nonstop to reach 80.”
You shouldn’t have done that. Everybody said that the journey would be the reward.
I you take it literally, a casual player is simply somebody who plays less than others. Doesn’t say much about skill or willingness. I’d also fall into that category, depending on the point of view. What’s “less”, once per month, one hour a week, one hour per day?
Anyway, “casual” had a very negative connotation lately, so it probably means more than that for most people.
Ah, yeah base stats :o Yes I know the 8% more isn’t from the stats on the Hero page but from adding all values by hand.
In a Berserk gear set, you get around 3100 attack. 300 of those from traits, 900 from base stats, leaving 1900 from gear power and weapon average damage. 8% more of that is 150 more attack which is in the end a 5% increase on raw damage you inflict. Add in the increase in crit chance and crit damage and I stand my ground when I say you can very well expect an ascended berserk player to outdamage an exotic berserk player by between 10% and 20% :p
Exactly. And 8% is only for the secondary attributes since the ring we know is a MF ring, as I already said. For a full ascended set with power as a primary attribute, the difference will be higher, which will also increase the overall (including traits and base stats) difference.
How clever of them to pretend that WvW isn’t PvP. How clever to dangle the promise that eventually this gear will be available through WvW. Except of course WvW is PvP. As long as this gear is available to dungeon runners and not PvPers who WvW, there will be a major stat disadvantage between the two groups.
Hm? Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time. You even quoted that. If you’re coming from PvP and do WvW, you can get the gear in WvW. Also, ANet always said that WvW is not competitive PvP and that it is not supposed to be completely balanced or fair.
He just said that you don’t get +1000 from traits, which is correct.

Its mostly the people that are completely against this patch that are saying this, lol. If you are neutral (like me) about the patch or favor it, you seem to know that overall, its not that big of a % increase.
So, how much of an increase is ok before we are allowed to complain? 5%? 10%? 43,2%? And who decides on that? I guess that’s up to everyone individually. There was a stats cap on exotics, even legendaries weren’t better. Now this is raised, which naturally annoys people that already invested much of their time to get exoctics. Imo, considering what ANet previously said, even an overall increase of 0,1% is too much.
Would be very funny if it was suddenly unbound and somebody got those 3800 gold ;p
the problem is with such a great ammount of money they can play set the prizes as they want and make almost infinite money.
Sounds familiar – real world economics.
Coincidence + placebo I guess, I got several since then. Humans are just not good at judging statistics.
I cannot find proof that the accusation made by ANet is wrong, what’s the evidence? Or is Dulfy automatically considered innocent just because she’s kind of famous? ANet sees the ways and amounts in which gold is moved between accounts.
42.3 hours, you play slow. dont include all the time your not actually leveling.
Yeah, because “not actually leveling” means “not progressing” means “not playing” means “wasted time” right? Seems that’s the attitude of many people “playing” games today.
a) I didn’t say if this is negative or positive, I just explained where the numbers floating around in this thread come from.
b) ANet already said there will be equipment for all slots, not only the this ring. And that this equipment will be better than exotic. So you can safely calculate that it’s gonna be an overall increase on the attributes.
c) The ring in the example is an MF ring. Power is just a secondary attribute. I doubt there will be a 43% power increase on a power ring, but it’ll be more than 8% for sure.
/e: what stof said.
I don’t see what that should be good for, there are other ways to add challenges and progression (I even feel bad for using that word) if needed. Increasing the level cap is considered bad gamedesign by many people for a reason.
Considering the amount of “kittens” in your posts, are you really wondering why they are constantly deleted?
200 hours to reach level 80, are you kittening kidding me?
I bought the game, didn’t rush anything, did all dungeons, did all the jumping puzzles i could find, explored a lot, tried out spvp and WvW and was 80 on my 4th day of playing, the GW2 leveling process is realy realy fast. The hardcore players did it in 2 days after release. I would say that ~40-50 hours is a normal amount to reach 80.
If you’re fooling around a lot in the different starting areas, check every piece of lore, talk to NPCs, do minigames and so on it’ll take much longer. Totally depends on the way you play the game, so what’s “normal”. Anyway, it’s faster than in other games if you really want to level quickly.
I just saw that they plan to force you to change your password on a regular basis. I’d wish they’d just do that for people not using an authenticator. My password is safe enough and I’m only using it for GW2.
PS: I don’t want to try this now, but can you change the password here without entering another code or verifying the change by mail?
Sigh. These are the rings we know of so far:
https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Ascended-EN.png
Primary attribute here is MF, secondaries are power and precision.
Exotic combined stats:
7% MF
63 power
63 precision
Ascended combined stats:
10% MF
68 power
68 precision
That’s a 43% increase on the primary attribute and an 8% increase on the secondaries.
There’s a 10% to 20% step between other rarities:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item#Quality
Go figure what that means for a full ascended set compared to an exotic set.
I agree that this is less of a challenge than more like an annoyance and that it’s inconsistent.
As previously said, the key that makes you draw your weapon should also work for the preview window.
Gear progression in other mmo’s is just a meaningless gating mechanic keeping people with less time to play behind. Consider this, if a new sword lets you do 5x times more damage but you fight monsters with 5x more health you haven’t made any progress and the only thing that changed was the arbitrary number assigned to your attacks.
People seem to like big numbers, no matter how pointless.
/e: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Break_Damage_Limit, I actually like it there too, but that’s different story
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
I forgot to test that the last time this came up, did anybody try ctrl + print or ctrl + shift + print instead?
It is that expectation because that is the philosophy behind the game.
Actually no, what statement do you base that assumption on?
I think it’s fine the way it is now, you can go back to help people and be actually helpful without being overpowered. It’s a good compromise between no progression and the insane godlike-effect you have in other MMOs. I’m not a fan of item grind and endless stats based progression, but as Fildydarie already said, the idea that a level 80 character with a lot of playtime, used to fight the creatures of hell in an endtime warzone, should struggle to compete with a beginner and low-level mobs is way off in the opposite direction.
That example would probably cause problems with some of the worlds boundaries, so you could get to places you normally couldn’t access, but I like the general idea of some kind of special effect, although I’ll never own a legendary.
I see what you did there :p
