The current system is fine imo, the additional step for two-factor authentication only takes me about 10 seconds longer than a simple login. Security by obscurity has never been a good choice. I guess we see a lot of support/community forum hacks because their respective owners seem to think exactly that, “well, it’s just a forum, no need for secure auth”, and the security measures are just not as strict as with the actual product. Better implement a reliable, secure authentication backend (which ANet seems to have done) from the beginning and don’t run into problems at all.
Considering the amount of time it takes them to fix usability bugs with these forums, I hope they put a lot of work in making it secure, which would explain a slow rollout (or they’re just lazy).
…which causes a lot of negative side effects as well as most of us probably experienced during the halloween event.
The stupidity of charging high level players a higher fee in low level areas is a big deal to me.
Apart from the balancing problems, in the end almost everybody will be using the same skills anyway. Like it was in GW1. Most skills are just inferior. Imo the weapon based choice of skills adds enough flexibility without being overcomplicated, so no. More weapons, fine. More skills, no. Maybe increase versatility by improving the trait system and the effects it can have on existing skills.
Wouldn’t be a one-time event then eh? It doesn’t make much sense to have an event that actually changes the world happen twice, although I see that’s a problem for a lot of people. ANet could shift the time the event happens per server. That would require a working guest function first though.
Goldfarmers will then just invite you to a guild they create, the patterns are already there so that would be an unrectified limitation for all legit players that won’t prevent botting.
I meant they should add the other option so you can take better shots of the landscape without your character on it. In WvW and PvP it definitely adds a tactical advantage, so the range shouldn’t be increased there.
Did anybody ever say this would be implemented?
Only thing I demand is: limit the costs so they match the current level, not the real level, since you earn less in low level regions and it doesn’t make me want to help out there. Other than that, the costs are fine.
Experienced that bug too: http://imgur.com/Fd3qs
If they ever did this (add an option to not only hide the UI but also the character model), they’d have to do it only for PvE, not WvW/PvP.
Then just be proud of that character. Running around with several characters with the same name doesn’t make sense in terms of uniqueness.
Not being realistic doesn’t mean it doesn’t have to be logically consistent within its universe, this is what also destroys many movies.
Salvaging gives confirmation dialogue. I think for everything green or better rarity?
Sometimes this is a bit annoying. I want to get rid of the green stuff very fast too.
Also a good point.
There was one guy with a broken mouse that unintentionally did several clicks at once, a problem that may, like lag that makes you click again after a while, causeing multiple purchases, happen to anyone sooner or later. So, for pricy transactions like these, I’d vote for a system that prompts you again. An option to resell items for some time would a) be problematic in cases where you lose connection to the server and b) you’d have to make sure people don’t buy armor, transmutate it and resell it.
I also think it’s very repititive and doesn’t really add to the gameplay but is more of an interruption, so I’d definitely vote for this as an option as I don’t see it would have any negative side effects.
Auto-attack is a good thing. There are skills that we want to activate all the time (during fights). The reason auto-attack is a good thing for those is, that to hit the respective key involves no thinking, no human descisions. Gameplay should be centered about thinking, abou making gameplay descisions (like “when to activate a skill”).
This is a contradiction in terms. Hitting the auto attack key one time, fire and forget, involves more thinking and decisions, especially about when to activate a skill, than doing it manually? Twisted logic. This only makes some classes even more reliable facerollers. Only thing it would make easier is go afk during an event, which actually isn’t far from botting.
Solar midnight is the exact opposite of noon. The sun being equidistant from dawn and dusk at nadir. In Roman times Midnight literally meant the middle of the night. In modern times Midnight is the transition between days time of night. Where does one get the idea that midnight is a cloudy night with no stars?
You misread that, probably my fault: I meant if midnight is cloudly, you can’t see stars, you that alone eventually isn’t the best name for this weapon. “starry night” just sounds… meh.
ANet knows best what kind of gamers buy the most gems, and considering the fact they made another game based on the “no endless grind” philosophy, it obviously pays out. I wouldn’t expect grinding players to pay for gems anyway as they’ll be able to spend gold instead.
It was more of an example than an actual suggestion, just to illustrate non-statted gear progression without it actually being required.
I see.
Constant character progression = endgame content. it has nothing to do with numbers, adventure is a form of progression in of itself, it is a pity you lack the imagination and live inside a square box and have to resort to thinking it is about something as trivial as numbers.
This specific thread is all about stats and grind (again). If you make a good proposal that’s not based on this game mechanic, I’m all in. Unfortunately, everybody seems to lack the imagination required to create other motivating forms of “endgame content”. I guess it’s easier to just insult people.
/e: what TheDaiBish said.

What would taking less damage in dungeons be good for, it trivializes them so they become even less of a challenge. All that would be good for is farming.
Midnight also doesn’t really cut it (cloudy night, no stars?) and all other names including the word “star” that just come to my mind sound silly.
Another issue with all this is the way armour is stored. If everything is cosmetic we sure as hell need larger bank slots to store all this stuff. Unless they want us to spend ages amassing it and then having to destroy to make room.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Create-a-Bank-Tab-For-Costumes-Town-Clothes/
That’s why these threads exist.
this thread should not exist. he should have hit report and been done with it. period.
I agree because he didn’t say what happened afterwards and probably won’t comment again on this here, and people will just take it as “ANet doesn’t care” although nobody knows.
/e: and an even better reason: “there should be maturity” isn’t a suggestion ANet could do anything about. So this doesn’t belong in the suggestions forum.
LMAO!!! No!!!!! If I ever said anything like that at my job (web development), I’d be fired. Where the hell are you working where they’d let something like this slide?
Judging by his name, I’d guess he’s from Germany and I can assure you that he’s wrong. The laws I mentioned even force the employer to investigate such cases and take appropriate action.
/e: but it’s correct that he doesn’t necessarily have to be fired if this happens for the first time. “Appropriate” doesn’t mean that. Employees are better protected here.

Probably there won’t be any court involved, the case would be rejected unless there were actual proof (not just a testemony of the maybe-victim) that it wasn’t just a bad joke.
And, in the OPs case, even if the girl is underage, it still wouldn’t be child molestation unless the person would actually get the child to do something or he would continue to ask for that after he was told that he is talking to a child. And even then it’s doubtful if something would happen.
I don’t want this to go too far, but both of this is just plain wrong. Check §§ 12 Abs. 3, 7 Abs. 1 Satz 1 AGG as well as §§ 176, 183 StGB and the respective comments and opinions of the court. Other laws are also relevant.
I saw people in other threads mention raids and progression gear and one of the ideas I saw and took note of (cos I liked it) was one where they had suggested an 8-10 man raid with better gear than exotics. But the gears stats only improved inside said raid (this could be done for dungeons to). Maybe killing a boss gives X points/tokens etc and those could be used to give runes/sigils that only work in certain areas (the dungeon)
Ok, so you farm that dungeon for a week, then you got the best gear again. What’s next then? Harder mobs, better gear? And then – even harder mobs, even better gear?
This “progression” is what resulted in the insane concept of monster levels and the infernal machine in D3, which imo is the most stupid approach I ever encountered.Lots more games take a gear progression approach and since they are highly successful I seriously doubt it could be coined as stupid. Not to your taste maybe.
The facts are when folks feel that they have done all they can in a game and there is nothign else to do then they just quit. The arguement that people can come back at anytime while is valid is also a misconception. When people leave they usually go on to something else. They invest their time, money etc which means they are less likely to leave that to come back to a game that they left due to one thing or another in the first place.
Take WoW for instance. Played it for years. I eventually grew tired of the direction it was going. Apprantly the new expansion is better than expected, but I still wont go back due to having invested my time and money in GW2.
People are not asking for GW2 to be another WoW clone on the whole. Most are realising atm the endgame is limited and are making suggestions to address that. In the pursuit of perfection, no stone should be left unturned.
CoD is also still successful, everybody says it’s getting more stupid with each release though. People are also watching stupid TV shows. Success doesn’t necessarily tell you anything about quality.
WoW had to be designed the way it was designed because people had to stay and pay monthly fees. Fewer people can still generate a high transaction volume with the micropayment path ANet chose if it’s done right. You simply get more money from less people, it still works out. No loss if somebody quits playing.
Courts usually don’t consider that to be funny.
I don’t see things like “I’ll help you if you cam nude for me” being offensive enough to justify more than a simple warning and it most definitively is not Sexual Harassment. It might be rude, but that’s all. Yes, maybe things are different in the USA, but they are pretty kittened up when it comes to things like that.
If she was underage (probably not the case with his gf), this would even be child molestation, at least in Germany. But it doesn’t have to be a crime to be punished, ANet makes the rules of conduct and that is a clear violation of these terms. So it absolutely is a reason for a permanent ban.

I’d simply make it so you can trade in skill points for other things, including karma. I don’t need a Legendary, so I won’t use them to get Bloodstone Shards.

It should be possible to see the history of names the character had before then.
Downed state is in the game to give you a fighting chance until one of your teammates gets you on your feet.
What exactly is the “fighting chance” when you’re finished from stealth?
Some people just seem to read “stealth needs to go” and start crying about nerf compensations…
They offer TOTP, so they support TOTP (once they make it official instead of beta). Which means any TOTP device is supported as TOTP is an IETF standard.
One of the reasons I’m more active here and not in the German forums, although German is my native language, is that they seem to be using the English wordlist also on German text. And a lot of censored words appear just as parts of German words, which makes texts really hard to read since they also didn’t just replace them with stars but the word “Liebsche”, which isn’t even a well known German word but a regional idiom.
For example, the German word “k u n terbunt” (motley) is censored and then reads “Liebscheerbunt” which doesn’t make any sense at all.
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
Skill based challenges would be easily exploitable and probably a lot less time consuming, also it would be almost impossible to do the correct balancing for it to be fair for all classes and races.
TOTP is specified in an RFC, at all works the same. This is more like “there’s an option but I don’t use it because I don’t like it but prefer to be hacked”. If ANet ever offers an authenticator, it’ll probably be just another branded GO 6. I’d try if it really works if I could just find mine. I don’t know if Blizzard removed the Multi OTP option from their one button devices, otherwise anybody actively using one could also use it for GW2.
The fact that there are bots in the game is sad enough as it is. I don’t think we need to further acknowledge that fact. Its good that people report bots, but I see no reason to encourage or reward it. The risk of people reporting the wrong players just to get the achievement is always lurking in the background.
I agree, just wanted to write the same. Let’s not distract from the fact that botting is against the rules and that ANet has to solve the problem and let’s not encourage backbiting.
The chance to find keys in the chests seems to be pretty high, I recently unlocked ten chests just with keys contained in the ones I opened. Or that was just one in a million kind of luck.
I really hope ANet intruduces a better way to make suggestions soon, there have been tons of threads about this now and nobody ever seems to care about the search function which causes this subforum to be totally cluttered and redundant.
See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Equipment-Storage-Alternatively-Armourdex/
Eh? See here plus my last post. Two-factor authentication has been ready to use for three weeks now.
I don’t like the idea of a community police, this may lead to abuse. It would be ANets job to have GMs in the game that can solve such problems quicker by locking accounts as a temporary solution until the case has been investigated.
Isn’t that exactly what happens in the high-level areas, as long as they aren’t cleared by huge bot trains and event farmers? Orr is a battleground full of mobs. Only that they don’t fight but stand around until somebody runs in and kills them. Then they quickly respawn and stand around again.
illusions are by far the most annoying thing on Mesmer and one of the main reasons (along with Portal e.g.) Mesmers are called OP…
Our whole class mechanic is based on illusions. How about removing pets from rangers.
I sometimes start linking the skills I want to use in chat instead of actually using them, but I’ve never hit the chat button before. I also see this happen to other people a lot, is there some combination of keys that does this? If so, it should be removed or made optional. Probably some Shift/Ctrl thing.
There are even fishers standing around in Lion’s Arch that do nothing but… well, stand there. No boats, no nets, no rods iirc.
There are enough TOTP hardware tokens, just not one “officially” from ANet. The one Blizzard uses for example is just a branded VASCO Digipass GO 6 (which should also work with GW in theory).
They even officially market it that way.

I think there would very limited interest because unfortunately, you cannot grind in a theatre. Seriously, I like the idea, but I guess neither casuals, nor roleplayers nor hardcore players would really visit more than once, and considering the amount of work this would require… an open air theatre, right in Lion’s Arch where many people are, with some sort of interaction would be a better idea as would also make the world feel a little more vivid.
