Good to see how they “listen”. Exactly what I expected, almost none of the bugs in the comprehensive list have been fixed, instead some irrelevant balancing changes and several new bugs. Thank you for nothing.
Make it a five player teleport only (the first five players using it can teleport as long as the portal exists, the mesmer has a guaranteed slot) but reduce the cooldown. So it can be used more tactically instead of just zergporting.
When the update is rolled out? They’ve given a pretty detailed overview of what’s coming now and people are still not satisfied…
I don’t think you understand the concept of this thread, lol.
The build goes life today, but we don’t know when. I’m sure Lions Arch will be updated too, so we can partake in festivities.
Read my other posts, I do understand well. They just can’t tell us an exact timeframe if they don’t know it themselves, it’s done when it’s done.
10:00AM PST. Will you people just read!
https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/the-game/releases/december-2012/
Just so people aren’t confused: that’s for the first arrival of the airship on saturday, not when the patch is rolled out or the general wintersday events start.
Can someone explain it to me it more simple. In in the UK. I don’t understand all the time differences. Thank you

Almost everybody was affected by the bug because most people use that trait. He never said no delay at all was fine.
Before the Dec 3rd patch, iwarden and zerker were both having a delay of less than 0.25 sec
Which was a bug.
As of Dec 3rd patch, mesmer’s phantasm got broken, which makes all phantasm takes 2 sec to attack after being summon.
The delay is now 0.5s in the code iirc and will be reduced to 0.25s. I never experienced a 2s delay, I noticed that latency has a huge impact on this though. I had to play via mobile tethering a few days ago which doubled my latency and the phantasm delay felt way worse. Average ping was 80ms instead of 40ms, I guess at 200ms+ this could be really hard to ignore.
This bothered me when I first started playing my Mesmer, but by the end, you can churn them out so fast it doesn’t matter much.
This. Illusions aren’t pets. Their behaviour is just inconsistent – if the argument is that they disappear when the target dies because they’re targeted mind tricks, how can they deal AoE damage and so on, also what the OP said about them being attackable by everybody is true.
-Portal was only initially intended to be used by the casting mesmer. This bug was fixed.
They should actually make the cooldown 60s again but make it only work for the mesmer himself and four other players, seriously.
The world completion star not being shown on clones is missing now.
Clones also don’t have names if you hide NPC names and don’t have signets (?)
Is it a bug or a feature that risen thrall seem to completely ignore illusions 99% of the time and go straight for the caster?
They actually did? I only read that “The build should go live sometime tomorrow.” statement several times. Well, just check the forums – I guess the patchnotes will be online by the time the patch is rolled out.
Which is cool in theory – only problem is that I couldn’t find a programmable token yet, they’re all pre-initialized. So the GO 6 and so on I mentioned earlier wouldn’t work. A Yubikey seems to be the only option as of now (and a cheap one), but it requires a client component (KeikoTerada made a good post on how to actually use it, see here).
Any RFC 6238 comliant token could be used, including Blizzard’s authenticator and so on, if the secret could be changed manually in account management.
Not at all keen on this breakout event. Just more pve in wvw, I don’t get it.
You didn’t get it from the beginning, WvW is not PvP, period. Want competitive PvP, go play competitive PvP. WvW is a massive, not totally balanced battle including both PvP and PvE elements.
If you don’t want to know the details, you can ignore them. Those who want or need the details have them now, there would be no option for them if they weren’t given.
But in lore Asura are not nice! They aren’t! They are power hungry, devious little geniuses with the desire to control all of Tyria! The Halloween event showed the mad king and his tower, that was enough to please me, but having Santa Asura does not please me. AGHH
All Asura? The world isn’t black and white.
Collect evidence, quit, report. The only way to stop people using exploits.
Snitching isn’t cool, son.
It’s only a problem for people who exploit, “son”.
If I run a dungeon with a group and they want to exploit these bugs, do I risk being banned if I follow them? Should I just exit right away?
Collect evidence, quit, report. The only way to stop people using exploits.
There are buffs I could give to the spider queen, and I’m sure there’s nerfs we can do to the mesmer – but none of which would be a result of this video
You’d better be careful with such statements, this can easily result in an excrement storm considering the latest mesmer “bugfixes”.
I’m really glad we have Gaile in here, I absolutely salute her patience and openness. I’d probably already have gone mad and banned everybody. Although I understand people want to be rewarded for their participation in the event, this is going way too far, this thread alone is so full of greed and envy, it’s a shame. Maybe some people will read their posts in this thread after some time has passed and actually feel ashamed. I looted the original chest after killing the ancient Karka and just check this thread out of curiosity, and I’m quite baffled by the ungrateful behaviour of parts of the community. ANet could have simply carried on like other studios, instead they put a lot of effort into resolving this issue.
Habib, you should really explain (in the OP of this thread or another sticky) how culling works, why it exists, and what factors affect its performance.
There’s a lot of ignorance and confusion on the forums, with people saying things like “I have a high end PC, please just allow me to turn off culling” etc.
My assumption is that culling is actually network related (a limitation to the number of entities the server can tell a client about) rather than graphics related (a limitation to the number of entities the client can display, even though it knows about them all.)
However, I’m just guessing here as well. Some enlightenment on this very important issue would go a long way to managing player expectations and helping them provide more meaningful feedback.
(there might have been previous statements on how things work, but since they’re not in a sticky or here in the very thread talking about culling, it’s hard to find and few will know about it.)
Funny to see you post this, which I totally agree to, and then directly afterwards people post the same thing again (“I have a high-end PC…” and so on).
I thought Habib wrote an understandable, extensive post about this here, which boils down to:
Even so, the bulk of the issue remains with the server-side culling as it doesn’t matter how fast your client can load and draw a character if it hasn’t even been told that character should exist yet.
So yes, apart from the performance issues with different hardware, this probably is primarily a network issue. 10kB multiplied by 100000 (numbers completely made up but probably conservative) already means 8GBit. Per second.
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
If you spend the money on hardware, you won’t be able to purchase GW2 afterwards anyway? :o
I just wish they cared about me too!
I attended as much of the events as I could. Patiently waiting for the scavenger hunt to get fixed. Attended the karka invading lions arch but because of the lag and client crashes hated it. Then I crash before the event even started on Sunday so gave up and went to be with my family and watch TV instead.
Now I see people who already got the chest getting it twice and people who did not log in all weekend getting them.
Me? I get nothing.
long drawn out sigh
sad face :-(
I’m with you somehow as you did anything at least, but only because it went wrong for some people (meaning they got the reward without actually participating), this was meant to be a reward for participating in the final event, which really was long, partially boring and a bit costly.

What happends next?? i assume he send the gold using in-game mail to another account to sell it or something.
it is possible to see that in the logs ?
I’m wondering about that too, this should be traceable and the buyer should be banned as well. Or maybe this already happens silently and people just don’t dare to complain afterwards :p
From your description it sounds like you can get to point in the Sell UI where you can set your price, but you can’t click the button to Sell… is that correct?
I’m getting that pretty often too, after clicking around in the UI for a while it somehow solves itself magically.
- staggering your illusion’s distance from the target can help your stack Diversion, stripping champion mob’s control immunity
I didn’t get that one, could you elaborate?
put up that focus wall and watch entire groups of ranged in DE’s just melt themselves
And if the terrain isn’t flat, it’s likely to do nothing.
According to some people, even blurred frenzy in its current state is OP (and ANet somewhow seems to listen to those guys).
As blur makes you invulnerable, yes that’s working as intended.
Ah, should’ve read the whole thread, thanks.
From what they’ve said, their system is vulnerable to large scale brute force attacks, where hackers cycle thru millions of potential passwords.
You probably meant invulnerable.
It’s already been noted in the other thread “Commander/High Ranked Hacked” thread. Even with Mobile authenticator(which should make it ridiculously hard to hack) we are still getting hacked.
Many people stating they were hacked say that it happened instantly the moment they logged in, that indeed indicates that a local trojan intercepts the authenticator. In this case the user also stated that he wasn’t asked for the additional key each time, that means he checked the box that remembers your current network, and that may contain a lot of nodes. I’d completely remove this option and the option to save the password anyway. Also, just because you’re an IT expert doesn’t mean you don’t get hacked, I’m working in that business too and I caught a trojan once. Some people also probably simply make false claims to pretend it’s not their fault, especially if they used third party software for example, they’d never admit that of course. ANet can reconstruct what happened partially from their logs though and they’ll eventually figure out what really happened. And finally, if somebody makes too much information public, e.g. on Facebook, social engineering may lead to further attacks. High ranked players are usually also very active on reddit and other forums, you can gather information from their posts and profiles and so on.
That’s not what we asked for (although I like the idea of a public bugtracker, this wouldn’t work because most people simply don’t understand how these work). It would just be nice to know about more or less gamebreaking bugs people will likely run into that are not about to be fixed.
We do have a bug on this, but not an ETA on when it will be fixed yet. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
While you’re on it, fix it so the clones don’t attack random yellow mobs they stand next to.
There are a couple of unrelated bugs, the skipped content/reversion is specific to an issue that occured the first week or so after ship. There is currently no fix planned for the issue you ran into, since it’s a fairly complex problem with no easy fix. Unfortunately, at this point, the only real option is continuing your story as it is now (with the mis-step.)
Umm… could you make a sticky with all the bugs we might run into that are “not planned to be fixed because it’s not easy”? Would probably be interesting for everybody to avoid those instead of learning the hard way.
A comment on the delay duration, which I’ve seen others scream out as “up to 3s” and “at least 2s”. I’ve never seen a delay as long as 1s in any situation. I’ve been watching pretty closely since this patch and it feels like [0.5s,1s). If you tried to set it at 0.5s, I’d just believe you. That feels about like what I’m seeing.
The delay before damage, however, is severely magnified on targets that are already reacting (moving). On the 2nd pass or even the first for a moving target, the phantasm has to pursue before starting damage. That’s always happened, but now they get an extra 0.5s lead. The phantasm was a runner stopping mechanic via cripple — not instant due to animation/etc., but quick enough to be fairly reliable — now it often never catches up to a runner in order to cripple them.
I also didn’t experience such a high delay yet, hard to tell if it’s exactly 0.5s but it’s not like 2 or 3. I wouldn’t mind a short delay if the phantasm wasn’t instantly destroyed for whatever reason, it doesn’t seem to have any defense at all the moment it’s created.
In PvE, a group of Risen Thrall is ultra-annoying now.
Have to create other chars for the other orders anyway, (face)rolling a warrior for farming now until maybe the mesmer’s ever gonna be fixed/balanced separately for PvE/PvP. I seriously doubt that though.
If you fix a bug, not only check that the fix works (even that doesn’t happen as it seems) but also its implications on gameplay. You cannot fix things without rebalancing. All we got with the latest updates have been partially working bugfixes shaping up as nerfs further breaking PvE gameplay without any compensation. Fix one thing, break two others, we already know that philosophy, it’s getting old.
Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.
So now people have a chance to blind or dodge our summon, then if we get it off they have adequate warning if they want to try and dodge it a second time or possibly kill it to take no damage?
So we can have our attacks negated TWICE and you want to make sure people have adequate reaction for the second negation if they miss the first one!?!
I count at least three, dodge the summon, dodge the attack, destroy the threat. Not to mention blind and so on.
Good stuff, mesmers deserved a nerf anyway.
Yeah, the mesmer is probably the only class that hopes that there will be no more patches at all. Just wondering what they will nerf on 12/14, maybe our clones will start healing the enemy…
Please don’t feed the troll, he obviously just came in here to needle people.
/e: I’m still laughing about the “powerful summon”. I’m really glad this change happened, fighting risen will be even more fun now </irony>
Just to make this clear: I don’t care about competitive PvP, do whatever you think has to be done there. But stop screwing up the rest of the game for everybody else for god’s sake. Simply reverse everything you did to mesmers in the last two months, I prefer a buggy broken class over a broken class considered “fixed”. That way, at least I can hope it’s gonna be fixed one day. I’m really peed off right now.
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
I don’t know if arenanet uses the same sort of methods here, but if they haven’t mentioned anything about it, why risk it?
I doubt they do unless you’re really acting up and they have a good reason, I’m here because I’ve been banned from the German forums for no good reason (criticising the German staff) but I can play the game as usual.

I realize keeping old passwords in the DB is to prevent (any) players from using the same password.
I have a question:
Are old but uncompromised passwords still tied to the GW2 account?
For example:
Lets say I used to use an uncompromised “Password1234” as my old GW2 password which also happened to be the password for my email account. After reading Mike O’Brien’s article, I decided to change my GW2 password to keep it different from my email. Let’s say I didn’t change my email password …
Password1234 is now part of the unusable passwords since it’s still stored in the DB.
From:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/“(The blacklist contains passwords only, not account names.)”
Does he mean GW2 account names or compromised website/email account names?
I want to know if Password1234 is still associated with my XunlaiSpy account. If it is, anyone who has access to the potentially compromised database now has access to my email address’ password. (Remember, I didn’t bother to change the email password …)
The fact is that the historical cross-reference from ANet itself led to a compromise. Which may be what Commander players are experiencing …
So … what used to be a clean uncompromised password is now compromised because ANet stored it to prevent other players from using it but hackers were able to use it themselves in another way …
1. they certainly don’t store passwords but one-way hashes, I doubt anybody would dare storing plaintext passwords after the Sony “hack”, so the original password is practically unrecoverable (depending on available computing power and hash method used)
2. there’s no reason to keep a blacklist of passwords assioiated with usernames, the blacklist will probably consist of a separate table with just hashes
Could this in any way be realted to the lag issues many of us are experiencing?
I’ve only had this happen to me once or twice, and am also experiencing severe lag from time to time.
Its very possible, which would also explain why its so hard to reproduce it internally with zero latency.
One of the reasons we’re asking for a public beta server since release.
Wrong question. The argument sounds like the people that complain here are a vocal minority that doesn’t represent the community and everybody else doesn’t complain because they actually have the opposite opinion. But many people don’t complain because somebody already said what they said, they think it’s no use anyway or, most important, they simply don’t care. Just take a look at any election.
Get it through your heads, the overall reception of guild wars 2 is positive, while the overall feedback is negative. Because people who have a negative opinion are more likely to bring up their real or perceived slights.
This. Those of us who like the game are silent because we don’t have anything to whine about, and instead are playing our game in peace. Hence whiners appear as majority because whiny people are always the loudest.
Just because something isn’t negative, that doesn’t mean it’s positive. Except maybe in some people’s black and white world. Most people simply don’t care because GW2 is “just another game”.
So I heal my illusions instead of my comrades?
“Area of effect heals and boons now prioritize players’ minions and NPC”
Eh? I hope the opposite was meant.
I hate when people claim the official forums don’t matter and reddit is way more important just because /r/Guildwars2 has 80000 subscribers. Something like the AMA wouldn’t have worked out here due to the flat structure and limited options of a simple forum, that doesn’t mean the forums are useless just because the event didn’t take place here. And if so, they were mainly useless because ANet scatters information throughout all social media channels too. E.g. there has been no information on where exactly the Karka event starts, just a twitter reply short before.
/e: ANet could just tell us how many different players (accounts) have been actively participating or at least logged into these forums last month.

I now have sunrise on my mesmer, I have traded it between the characters to test it out on my guardian, but I am keeping it on my mesmer
Legendaries are soulbound on use?
Nice way to change the poster of your quote. Too bad anyone can view my post history and see I didn’t post that though.
PS: I give you 1 point for creativity
Sorry that was accidential, I removed the wrong quote tag.
Did you see how many people did the Lost Shores event once we knew that spending 2 hours in the event chain for 4-5 exotics was the reward? People wanted to do that event. Right now there is no motivation to do anything except sit in LA and stare at the screen.
Most people didn’t know that (I didn’t, was this mentioned somewhere before?), they just wanted to participate in an epic event. If you cannot motivate yourself to do anything else than grind, that’s entirely not the game’s fault.
Some people have already done anything in the game that doesn’t require grind. It was fun, but they moved past it. So what are the long-term goals in this game? All of them require money. Ascended back items are 50+ gold, tier 3 cultural armor is 100+ gold, some legendaries are 1000+ gold. The people who did all the things that don’t require money also want to work towards the things that do require money. Unfortunately ANets idea of actually getting those parts of the game is “wait for the next one time-event and hope you get a legendary base weapon”, and they get rid of any decent way to work towards them by actually playing the game.
If farming gold was easier, those people would have the items within a short timespan What then? Add more items with even higher requirements? Welcome to WoW.
How about playing a game because it’s fun, like doing RP, WvW or PvP? Are you aware that every game actually has an end, no matter how huge and complex the world is? There’s just nothing you could do to make people playing 10 hours a day happy over time, except introduce more stupid grind mechanisms.
