New achievement: Buy 5000 gems
Been there, done that
…reported to the client. Once the specific, detailed model for a given character is completely loaded from disk the fallback model will be replaced with the detailed model. …
While basic models is a nice optimization, one could off course start sending the detailed static info – including armor pieces – to the existing clients when someone joins a Wvw server so that the clients have this information ready when this player comes within viewing range. Similarly the new client could be given (all) this info when he has just joined. That way the server(s) will have less work when two zergs collide.
Sending all that information to everbody would make things worse. Especially in such a dynamic game mode where many people are constantly joining and leaving.
The Krait witch in Caledon Forest is also pretty hard as far as I remember. Her grappling hooks or whatever are fast, and you’ll likely not see them in the other effects going on. Additionally you aggro respawning mobs and moas running around there if I remember correctly. I’ve been there at level ~40 (in crappy equipment though) and she pretty much onehitted me. Just like the Krait blood witkittenessex Hills, nobody ever kills her because the effort isn’t worth it.
Great job Anet! how about you add an option that let us “keep enemies as fallback models”, This should increase the client performance in WvW, the last thing that many of us care about in WvW fights is the skins of the enemy models.
How about reading the big red posts in this thread, it only has three pages:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/January-WvW-culling-loading-changes/page/2#post1275716
If there’s an event that you’re convinced isn’t scaling, please post the name and location and I’ll look at it.
It’s not just the scaling. Take Fireheart Rise, Severed Breach waypoint for example. Yes, you can capture it alone. But it’s ultra annoying because the friendly NPCs almost die instantly. So it’s basically perma-contested.
Will there be an option to keep enemies (and even allies) as fallback models?
For people with lower specced machines or bandwidth limitations, it could increase performance? It could also just be a preference, since having a model “update” could be distracting while trying to track them.
I was about to ask the same. I guess there will also be many players with high-end machines who want to keep this on at all times to squeeze out the last bit of performance. Loading the models bit by bit shouldn’t hurt though as it’s primarily a question of available video memory.
The solution, in my opinion, is to also scale the reward up with both the:
- Personal Contribution
To answer your question, if a player does 99% of the work, and someone joins in to give the boss a hit, it wouldn’t suddenly scale down drops from 1 to 2 players.
From 2 players, it’s expected 50%-50% performance.
If both players have 50-50 performance, they should each get drops as if there were 2 players.
However, if player A does 90% and player B does 10%, then A did 180% of the expected and B did 20%, so A gets 180% of the drops for 2 players, and B gets 20%.
Something like this would work wonders.
This would not influence the Event rewards, as those only require a minimum contribution, wich is fine.- Time invested
Increase reward as time goes on, to compensate the effort and patience, since a long boss fight is often due to being undergeared, etc.
Those metrics are flawed though. What about different builds and classes, their damage output is very different. What does contribution mean anyway? Damage only? How do you measure support? A bad player or a class with low damage output will be rewarded for soloing even if it as a walk in the park, just because it took longer? What about kiting to make the fight last longer?
@iruwen: Are you saying this game has no grind?
No, I’m saying as opposed to WoW, you don’t have to grind in GW2. But you can, if you want.
Grinding in GW2 doesn’t give you an advantage, that’s what’s important. They created the fractals for the people who want to grind, but it doesn’t hurt anybody else. The stat difference through ascended items is negligible so far and they’ll be available for everybody by other means in the future.
They also said “Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward.”. Which is stating that GW2 is not about grinding for fun (cosmetic) rewards. Which again, is what we are doing.
“fun” means useful to me in this context. If you don’t want to do anything in the game at all, what would the game be about? No developer can create enough content to satisfy somebody playing 10 hours a day. Also, if you don’t want an item now but see it as a long time goal, you’ll automatically fulfill the requirements sooner or later. You just don’t have to grind to keep up with others who grind. Which was the case in WoW.

Alright, let me get this straight. You want Agony Resistance to be available via the infusion which could be bought using Laurels. You want Ascended gears to be available outside Fractals.
So what about Fractals players who spent hours saving up just to get our first Agony Resistance infusion? First you guys complained that it isn’t fair that PVE players do not have the options to get BiS ascended gears. Now that it is available with stats, you want an easy way to obtain Agony Resistance via Laurels. Really??
Comparing daily/monthly achievement to Fractals run, daily/monthly is a cakewalk but you want the same reward as players who painstakingly save up for Agony Resistance infusion via Fractal runs. For once, run the Fractals. Earn your Agony Resistance. Stop being self-entitled.
True colors shine through!
So your issue is that you personally ground out fractals for your ascended gear and you want everyone else to do it the same way otherwise it’s not “fair to you”!
If you enjoyed fractals, then you shouldn’t have any issues with who has what ascended gear and where they got it from. If you didn’t enjoy fractals, and instead were grinding for gear, then you should be happy that alternate avenues will soon exist to get said gear. No reason to be upset, you did get your gear before anyone else who chose to wait. There is a price for being “first”.
The argument made previously regarding the changes to fractals is legitimate. If a lowbie (lvl 80 with low fractal progression) wants to tag with their friends in lvl 12 fractals, they really should have 5 agony resistance (yeah they can scrape by without it, but it’s a detriment to the team as a whole). They won’t receive a lvl 12 fractal reward (which I have mixed feelings on) for completion, so their only opportunity to play with friends is to grind away (like you did), or spend laurels on a ring.
If they spend laurels on a ring, that’s laurels they didn’t get to spend on something else (and it appears there’s a lot of “something else” to spend laurels on). So yeah they paid a price. Don’t be upset about the price you paid and expect everyone else to pay the same price. You made your choice and if you are not happy with it, then not much will make you happy at this point.
He didn’t say anything you try to make up there. He’s totally right about the AR infusions, and I’ve never been in the fractals and just looking forward to ascended gear stats. If you want AR that’s needed only for fractals, go to the fractals.
“No gear grind” – this is one of the grindiest games Ive ever played. Way moreso than the juggernaut WoW.
I’m coming from WoW, and this is just plain and utter nonsense. And the legendary part is bs as well, ascended is the new exotic and legendaries are just matched to that, they still aren’t any better.

Anyway, I’ve not experienced such problems with the Englisch version. I don’t have a problem with Trahearne as well. Sounds like a Sylvari to me. But maybe what Bobby said comes into play here – English is not my native language, so I just don’t hear the mistakes. I’d still hear a “bad” voice though.
The problem with Trahearne is not WHAT he says but HOW he says them. A depressing monotonous tone. When we were talking about this in our guild, someone wondered if actor was informed that he was dying of an incurable disease right before he went in for the recording.
A depressed tone isn’t entirely wrong considering the circumstances but he uses the same tone even when he is supposed to be giving an inspirational speech! Just because he is Sylvari does not mean he should have the emotions of a block of wood.
Yeah ok, I see what you mean. The way he speaks is exactly the was I’d expect from this character, considering he’s a firstborn necromancer and the oldest of all sylvari, wandering around Orr alone most of the time and now he has to carry such a heavy burden. But in some speeches he really sounds dull. Doesn’t make it bad voice acting for me though, I’m used to far worse experiences (e.g. the German version =)).
the game gives you either no buffs, while you play completely alone, not being in a group, nor does the game anyhow motivate people to create groups at all.
its totally regarldless so far, if you basically play the whole game alone, or if you run around in groups, you se no difference, nothing motivates you to group up with other people to play with them togethe,r rather than to run alone through the huge maps of GW2 and thats something, I personally find very sad.
That doesn’t make sense, if you buff people running around alone, why group up at all.
Imo veterans should drop at least a blue and champions at least a green item if they existed in the world for a certain time (like with bonus XP, to prevent camping). Exploring a cave, finding and killing an “old” veteran or champion because nobody went there for some time and not getting anything at all really is a bit disappointing and doesn’t encourage exploring.
It may just be problem that some champions are really easy to solo, it just takes some time to bring down their health, while others are pretty hard or impossible, depending on which class you play.
The only thing that should be changed though is that waypoint cost should also be scaled down.
This is already the case, yes ^^ 70 pc has not the same value for a level 20 than for a level 80 ^^
Only if you’re a real level 20 player, not true for downscaled players.
Again,
If you want ascended gear with built in infusion, then youre sights are aimed at high fractal levels. So go run fractals. They are making ascended gear, without built in infusions, available via laurels so people are STATTED on equal footing, even if they dont run fractals. The infusion part of ascended gear is specific to fractals ONLY. So if you want ascended with built in infusion, then that tells me you are someone who wants to run fractals because that “upgrade” is specific to fractals.
If you do not run fractals, you do not need ascended with built in infusion.
I see no problem here.
Can people please calm down about this?
you don’t seem to understand the point, this was supposed to allow players to get BIS outside of farming fractals, if it doesn’t have the inherent AR then its not BIS its that simple and creates a sub teir if it cant be upgraded, as you will still have to grind lower level fractals and fight rng to get the stats you want if you want to dip into later fractals for a challenge or because guildies need +1
it does nothing to mend the fracturing of the player base people will still have trouble finding geared players to attempt the dungeon with since there is no AR on the gear, (infusions will help to some extent) youll still only have 50% of the infusion at most as someone who farms fractals, less when higher rarity infusions are released. then you have to grind lower level fractals (if you can find anyone to play them) to get a new set of gear with 100% AR.
I still dont see the problem, but not because I am shortsighted. I just dont see it as a problem.
From your two posts I gather that you, or this hypothetical person, wants to run high end fractals where ascended with built in infusions is almost required. Yet, you dont want to run fractals to get this gear. Gear that…is only BIS for fractals/high end fractals. You do not need +10 AR and some offensive stat for anything but fractals.
So what you’re saying is, you want to be able to purchase already infused ascended gear via a nice, easy, calm, no pressure way via daily and monthlys. You want to be able to sleepwalk through these dailys, which they most likely will be if current dailys and monthlys are any indication, in order to SIDESTEP a fractal grind for infusions that are only relevant to fractals.
I dont see your logic.
All I see is:
I want to be able to get BiS gear without grinding fractals so that I can join high level fractal groups.
I dont want to fractal grind. This means, I dont want to spend 1.5 hr per day to grind out fractals against RNG. This is too hard because fractals CAN be difficult at times, and RNG does suck.
I want to walk through the green fields of Kessex hills, kill some centaurs, and complete the monthly achievement. Then I can get the infused ascended, to go do those high end fractals.Sounds like you want the easy way out. Not trying to be rude or insulting, but that is pretty much how I see this.
I agree wholeheartedly.
The only thing that should be changed though is that waypoint cost should also be scaled down.
Yes. Always been this way in every game. Probably always will.
Playing a warrior in WoW was a sad experience, especially compared to an ice mage for example, at least when I stopped playing (other melee classes were way better though).
There has already been a PvP/PvE split in GW1 and it also started in GW2, they should just be consequent. The only question would be if WvW should be considered PvE or PvP.
Balancing PvE and PvP at the same time is simply impossible, because of the very different behaviour of NPCs and real players and the way conditions work.
How much gameplay do you expect out of a single game? This is an honest question and one that doesn’t seemed to be asked too often.
Do you want 500 hrs? 600? 1000+? What is realistic for you and what you think a company can (and should) supply for your investment?
There are a lot of people saying there is not enough content for the long run, but that determination seems to be after hundreds (if not thousand) of hours of play. Shouldn’t we discuss our expectations before we start saying that Anet is not living up to what we want?
Or do we just expect that there should be unlimited amount of content to continue to provide entertainment for as long as we want (or can) play?
+1 Seriously, how come more people don’t realize this..
+1, well said. The topic could just be called “Typical Day of <Random MMO>” as well.
As a melee toon on Shatterer, all you have to do is stand in one spot. The leg moves, but the actual hitbox does not.
Or just get on a mortar and press 2 every few seconds.
I’ll most likely use guesting to be able to complete skill challenges that are currently broken on our server
And still PvP players complain the most and cause changes for all PvE players.
I never had that problem. This should actually only happen if you don’t do any crafting and dynamic events and just follow the main storyline. I always had more than sufficient XP, actually by the time I really started world completion, I’ve already been level 80 for quite some time. And I haven’t even been in Orr or Frostgorge Sound yet. You’ll gain numerous levels by crafting alone.
I also never understood people complaining about income. I never farmed or anything, I just spend what I found on crafting and didn’t buy any mats, and earned 40g on my way without any effort.
But it still begs the question of why, without doing anything different (other than being in a different area) is my norn character so far ahead of my human character while completing less content, all things considered?
I actually switched from norn (level 15) to human because the norn felt so slow, and leveling as a human took pretty much the same time, if not a little less because I already knew how to do things. Your existing experience probably helps you too.
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
Honestly, I don’t understand the complaints with voice acting besides Trahearne. They’re all pretty exceptional and get the job done well, with notable praise to Zojja and ALL Male Sylvari! Their enthusiastic, adventurous, yet cute, innocent voice really stands out, making them a pleasure to listen to! I also have to give some praise to various Asura characters such as Magg.
I’m with you. I started playing the game with German voices and text, which was an absolutely horrible experience because of the number of mistranslations, bad pronounciation and, quite honestly, bad voices. I first started playing a male Norn, which wasn’t too bad, but then I switched to human (because the Norn felt so slow) and the male human voice is way below c-movie standards.
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
I never feel that my character is getting any stronger
Eh? When I go back to lower level areas, I can solo many champions and group events. I just cannot do everything alone, but I’m still a lot stronger. Onehitting everything in an area would be plain boring. I’m currently working on 100% map completion, and I wouldn’t want to run around in those low level areas as an almighty god, also ruining events for actual low level players. Because no, for many people it’s not so cool when some stranger trolls in and takes any effort out of the game, especially with the dynamic grouping found in GW2.
PS: the game is not abound hunting items and grind. This should have become clear by now…

Incredible. “Infracted” not once but twice and both in this thread. Apparently “constructive” means agreeing with the 1984 style of moderation.
Here’s something constructive for you,
Whenever you’re (developers) are going to communicate with us (players) please respect our level of intelligence.
If you can’t answer a question just say so and close the thread. If you can answer a question (read: answering the question, not rephrasing it and answering something unrelated, not redirecting to a merged thread where all the issues are swept up in pages and pages of trite(your moderation team does a wonderful job of this by the way, the stickied and merged drop thread is truly a shining example that should be shown to all NCsoft employee’s)) than do so and close the thread, the same way a republican would end an interview when asked how their tax breaks would help the middle class.Leaving it open is just inviting a barrage of further questions/jabs from players/dissatisfied customers, which your moderation team finds “nonconstructive”.
Imo the op’s question has been well answered.
That being said I made it in to the choice server, but had to share my account details with 3 other people
I hope you changed your password afterwards…
Yes, that’s exactly what I’m talking about—when the respawn timer hits 0, the next creature will look for an open spawn point, which might be the one that you just emptied out. This can make it seem like creatures are respawning more rapidly, but they’re really not.
This doesn’t only happen in Orr. Experienced that in Sparkfly Fen yesterday, there was no event going on and I was alone in that area.
95 to 120 seconds is too low. There are often cave systems you can explore, and if you just go in one direction and it’s a dead end, you have to fight the complete respawn on your way back. I virtually stopped exploring those places since it doesn’t contribute world completion and even if there’s something interesting like a veteran, it doesn’t drop anything at all most of the time. And normal chests tend to be placed where they’re easily reachable, not deeply buried in those caves.
The latter isn’t a mesmer specific problem though. We’re very capable of doing things alone (and try again without dying if it doesn’t work out).
I wish there was a proper sunset/sunrise. It looks just wrong. Zelda: Ocarina of Time did this very atmospherically.
They should fix the bugs first, then revision all classes. Fixing some of the critical long-time bugs will cause the balancing to break anyway.
After playing with everything maxed for a while (same graphics card), I chose to reduce supersampling to native (it totally makes a difference since GW2 lacks a proper AA implementation, but it also eats a lot of FPS) and reflections to terrain and sky only because this also makes a big difference in many places. Reflecting everything looks really awesome, but you also have water/reflections in many places, so it’s a big hit. Other tweaks:
- forced 16xAF in driver (improves texture quality)
- disabled FXAA, better use SMAA Injector, it hardly blurs and works way better in motion, only problem is that it also affects fonts (doesn’t hurt much though)
- limited FPS to 59 with VSync enabled, this removes a lot of the stuttering and reduces input lag
(edited by Iruwen.3164)
I found most classes not balanced at mid/low levels..
Lacking skills/traits makes them unnecessarily hard to play…..
Beating up mobs next to a level 1 warrior, you’d probably say “why the hell did I choose a mesmer”.
PS: I used white equipment (yeah, right!) most of the time and didn’t have any problems. It wasn’t quick, but I didn’t die often (I guess I died more often from fall damage than mobs :\)

If people can’t handle their money or CC payments and receive an 5’000$ bill at the end of the month from NCSoft of Gem purchases cause they can’t control themselves, there’s nothing more to say then, sh** happens, you knew what you were doing when buying those gems, how much they cost etc. and what is coming to you with that at the end of the month if you continue buying loads of them. If that person can’t handle money, he or she may better go back to Highschool or something like that and learn how to.
Wow, what an egocentric unsocial perspective. I’m glad the limits are there to protect the majority of players, even if it hurts an absolute minority. So I’d rather say: sh** happens and bad luck for you.
My runes I am thinking of sup infiltration for the added crit stats.
Infiltration and crit?
They should make Signet of Inspriation only give Swiftness and Vigor, maybe Aegis, as long as you’re out of combat. Aegis actually also comes in handy sometimes as it prevents the combat slowdown from being applied if you’re hit by a ranged mob you’re running by.
I can confirm the chest opens, but the loot really was disappointing considering you have to go through a JP first and probably have to solo the troll in a long boring fight. Also got two white items. Bad luck probably.
The number one issue with culling I have outside of WvW is in PvE, Cities in specific. I hate how it looks like a ghost town unless you spend 5 seconds standing right on top of people for them to load in and then as soon as they move a couple of meters they disappear.
I want to be able to see people at the mystic forge from the bank etc. It’s such an immersion killer. It’s been one of my biggest pet peeves with this game so far… the culling it’s the biggest immersion killer and in wvw combat issue.
I would also love to be able to stand on a hill in any zone and see if there’s other around me. Currently not being able to see people 5 meters away from you makes the world feel so empty unless you are doing the same quest. I want to see people around me, it makes the world feel more alive.
Couldn’t have said this better. It really is an immersion killer. The game just doesn’t feel like an MMO in its current state.
Gambling is based on chance and varying outcome. Within GW2, there are several aspects of it that are based on chance and varying outcome. The mystic forge has, indeed, predetermined several outcomes based on the input, however, these are controled by the RNG which can produce various outcomes.
You should really read the entire wiki page before you make a statement like that. The Mystic Forge has many, many pre-set recipes with a determined, non-random outcome. Hence the Mystic Forge is not “Purely Gambling”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items
And yes, I understand what gambling is, thank you very much.Umm I know there are many predetermined combinations with one outcome, HOWEVER, there are aspects of it that when used it may produce different set of outcomes. Did you take into account my examples? (i.e. one of them being adding four rare to get a chance for an exotic)
In a general sense, the moment you put items into the mystic forge – you are gambling!
Do I really need to start giving wiki examples?
It’s not gambling just because there’s chance involved. And you said it’s “purely gambling”, which is just wrong since there’s no chance involved in many situations at all.
Be prepared for more of these in the future, some of the POIs that are not on ground level are really hard to find. Best ask in the /map chat or look it up on Youtube. Some are also documented on http://gw2cartographers.com. The Tagotl Grounds POI in Kessex Hills for example, that one took me a while
I won’t complain about people smarter than me playing the market. That’s the difference between you and me.
As far as creating value goes … TP players invest time. EG they clear buy orders and set sell orders. Due to this, both seller and buyer get their gold faster due to the investment of the TP player. The TP player invests the time normally required by both other players. TP players also buy low value items, upgrade them to high value items, as such they create a supply for high demand items and demand for high supply items. That’s good for casual players.
In the end, all they do is balance out the market. Every single flip lowers margins for that particular flip. The TP would actually be more imbalanced without TP players. As time goes on, it becomes ever less likely for casual players to make dumb sales on the TP because all margins will be zero. As a casual player, I welcome that, and yes, they are allowed to earn money for their time…
I agree with that. Everybody has the option to do that, and if it was so easy to gain money by doing it, obviously everybody would do it instead of grinding. If somebody is willing to do the math and constantly monitor the TP, good for him.
Yet another stupid event:
http://i.imgur.com/sPDzE.jpg
So I fought that annoying Veteran Igniter (who came up with the idea for that enemy?) and its adds and started to revive the NPCs instead of destroying the gate first. I managed to revive two, then an Ember respawned and basically one-hitted them because they just stood in its flame AoE. And then everything respawned. Yeah. Nice. Very immersive.
And that wasn’t even a group event.
I completed the group event coming after that within the garrison too, had to do it alone because nobody else was there:
http://i.imgur.com/GOvSG.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/7JuFu.jpg
Took those veterans like five seconds to kill all friendly NPCs. Even a single igniter would have killed them all in no time.
I don’t think those guys are supposed to just stand there and do nothing except wait for the dragon’s breath, or are they supposed to be a bit dense? The fight wasn’t very immersive that way, it felt rather lifeless.
Working on the TP and RMT is probably very time consuming.
If you have to ask yourself that question… anyway:
