OK, time to use some actual numbers, and may the gods forgive me for doing so. I’m going to use my mesmer as he’s set up right now with a relatively balanced build. Here’s the numbers:

Ascended Amulet: 126 power, 85 precision, 9% crit
Ruby-ori Berserk: 115 power, 79 precision, 8% crit
Base: 1867 power, 1684 precision, 35% crit

The Ascended amulet is replacing the Ruby Orichalcum amulet of the berserker. The base numbers are without an amulet equipped at all. The ascended amulet gives me an increase of 11 power, 6 precision and 1% critical damage. In other words, after changing amulets we see this:

Power: 1982 -> 1993
Precision: 1763 -> 1769
Crit dmg: 44% -> 45%

C’mon people… are you really stressing over numbers this marginal? You can practically change a gem and have a bigger impact.

Yeah, but what will happen when full Ascended Gear is available? 10% more crit for example definitely makes a difference.

If you are looking for a pc who can run on high settings in WvW, you will need a lot more than what you can get now. I don’t think there is 1 pc powerful enough on earth to do that. (maybe some server park from nasa can do the job)

There’s nothing better hardware can do about broken software. There’s something wrong with the client, render performance seems to depend on network performance. Every high-end computer I tried failed in larger WvW battles, GPU as well as CPU utilization actually drop. Changing graphics options doesn’t really change anything about that.

This Game Is So Amazing

the game is amazing and this is what i love about it!
i love the simplicity of combat, i only have 3-4 buttons to manage while i watch walking dead and chat.
i love not having mounts and just paying for instant transport because i hate looking at the wonderful scenery.
i love that certain professions and builds can kill you a few seconds in pvp/wvw because it teaches you what you should to level up, play and use gems/gold on.
i love that tree guy is the celebrated hero because it really fits in with the whisperer theme.
i love the lack of profession build, attacks, skills, and traits diversity outside of gear because it requires less thinking. also, i like all classes to be predictable and common.
i love that we can monitor the tp through apps and web sites without having to be logged into the game.
i love how earning a legendary is not tied to any sort of meaningful achievements or content.
i love that we run slow and move even slower when in combat because it gives me a chance to look at all the wonderful scenery.
i love how dungeon runs teach you to to be good at rezzing players, it really helps to get those dailies done more efficiently.
i love the non customizable UI and console game combat style and controls.
i love that you can be hit by cc effects over and over and over, it really adds a new dimension to the way combat unfolds.
i love that the mystic toilet is always clean when i go to use it.
i love pink.
i love all of you guys and gals.
i love a lot of other things too but i have to stop typing because my hand hurts from spamming the #1 button.

I really hate when somebody actually opens a positive thread once in a year and instantly there’s somebody trolling in to ruin it with negativity.

qed, several times in this thread already. Nice trolling.

OP does not understand why people are complaining, here is to OP: People have their own viewpoints and what you find enjoyable do not suit them. Few agree with you and many don’t.

a) you don’t understand that the OP created this thread because he actually likes the game. Unthinkable, isn’t it.
b) if you don’t like this game, create your own thread. Or better: just move on. There are tons of other games out there. No need to ruin it for everyone else.
c) nice try. Many agree, many don’t. Judging by the amount of players, you’d better say: many agree, a few don’t. It’s just a very vocal (annoyingly redundant) minority. The rest of us actually plays and enjoys the game.

Didn’t have a problem finding the way up to the highest point though, as Jeffrey said, you have to enter the room and go up the staircase. Cannot remember if it’s the one on your screenshot, but it’s on the main deck.

The truth is, if everyone had this same awesome chance at good loot, this thread wouldn’t exist.

The truth is, is everyone would understand chance, this thread wouldn’t exist.

Also the conspiracy theories originate when the Devs don’t have a single response to it’s player base with thousands of threads regarding these issues.
My experience recently is to receive any fair chance at ectos…I have to use a Black Lion kit. The master kits get me an ecto every 3rd or so attempt….never 3 like the BL kits.
Just a guessing game at this point with no communication, so we’re expected to grin and bear it or move on I suppose. So much potential too, sigh….frustration does not = fun:(

1. they clearly stated it’s pure RNG and its all conspiracy theories. They probably won’t say it everytime one of those threads pops up. Although I see there’s a problem with champion/veteran drops since they’re supposed to drop something everytime and it clearly doesn’t happen.
2. BLKs have a 50% chance for rarer materials, master kits 25%. That’s a significant disparity of course. I don’t see anything wrong with that though.
3. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/devtracker
That’s a lot more direct communication than you’ll get from most other companies. And as they said countless times: just because they don’t reply, it doesn’t mean they don’t read. And even if they reply, people start asking tons of questions that could fill several AMAs and are offended if there are no further replies. And if they make a joke, people are offended too because they’re not taken serious. And if they don’t make jokes, people are offended because they’re not close to the community. And if they don’t answer a question, people are offended because they forget the many questions that have been answered before and because they don’t check the dev tracker. Basically, everytime a dev says something, somebody’s gonna be offended. I’m glad they still reply here at all with so much negativity. Even most of the positive threads are instantly trolled by somebody.

I got most of my rare drops from normal world mobs and gathering too. I don’t have any MF though. Though this is most likely purely coincidental, I think it would be good to get better loot from these than from DE mobs because it encourages people to explore and kill them everywhere instead of just farming the same DEs over and over again, using those unspeakable tagging approaches for efficiency instead of actually playing the game. I also currently move around remote areas a lot for the bonus XP.

Same here. I guess ANet has enough data to make sure there’s nothing wrong, and if there’s something wrong they’ll fix it. They’ll probably look into the dragon chest (didn’t encounter that so far, but it obviously exists) and veteran/champion drop problems, apart from that, the drops are fine to me. I’m not really worried they’ll implement dramatic changes, they usually don’t listen to a vocal minority and forget about the silent majority and they know how the economy works.

Majority of the personal story is bad, simply because most of the missions are terrible.

I love my personal story and most of the missions are awesome, except for very few flaws. I almost shed some tears at the end of the Claw Island step because I was really immersed and could relate to my companions (even though the dragon fight before was kind of dull because the NPCs seemed to just stand there and do nothing, see http://i.imgur.com/Hzkqz.jpg – that really seems to be a general problem in many places).

Leveling crafting isn’t that expensive actually, even if you buy all the mats and don’t do any farming at all you’ll need a total of about ~73g at current TP prices to bring all eight diciplines to 400. Most professions are at ~12g total, jewelcrafting, artificing and cooking being significantly cheaper. So if you only do two professions, you’ll be done with 6g to 24g, depending on which ones you choose. Again, without any farming involved, so you can sell or save your T6 mats.
But making money from crafting absolutely doesn’t work out, that’s right. Maybe from things like 20 slot bags, didn’t check that.

Yeah. Except there’s anything closer to you than your current target, in which case it’ll happily attack that because of its great “AI”.

Working as intended. If I am in combat with my target and a thief jumps me from close range, I do a dodge roll and WANT a clone to be generated that aggros the thief. Again, this is working as intended.

While this may be true in this specific situation, and even that could be discussed, it is highly annoying in many other situations and even more in PvE. So, while I cannot say if ANet intended to make it work the way it does, it still doesn’t seem right to me and obviously I’m not alone with that feeling.

Class synergy- This is by far the worst aspect of the game, class synergy is so poorly done that it bottles down to actual skills of a class rather than skillful play of classes. Class synergy in GW2 is “we need a Mesmer for TW” or “We need a guardian for projectile blocks”. or “we need a theif for SR”.

If that is “by far the worst aspect of the game”, which game does this better and how does it achieve that, since I probably won’t know it?

Many games did it better, not going to list them 1 because there too many and 2 im not a person who likes comparing games.

Just in GW2 some classes are clearly lacking in the ability to complete while others are given endless tools at their disposal .

That’s not class synergy, it’s more about balancing and efficiency. Synergy is generated by things like combo effects. In other games it is enforced by the holy trinity, I’m glad GW2 broke with this concept.

Then i suggest to use iphones instead of calculators… or no wait, you are fooled. It will take 10 minutes to write a script that will constanly spawn then kill a mob, it can do it faster than 1000000 players simultaneously. They just lie to us. It is impossible to be SO slow.

An MMO is complex and many problems only appear when a large amount of people does unforeseen things in different places. You cannot simulate human behavior. The only way to test such things thoroughly is on a live system or pre-patch on a beta system (which should exist).

I could go for 100% … but why ?
I could go to do some more WvW … but why ?
I could train SPvP more …but why ?

I can play for 2 years more ..and nothing will ever change, I will stay exactly strong as I am now …

I (and other ~70% of community) have no reason to play this game past lvl 80 Exotics…

This attitude about games just makes me sad.

Maybe it’s because I grew up playing games when games were still new (e.g. from around 1985 to present). Games didn’t used to be about getting the shinies or about doing things because the game gave you some reward like an achievement or something shiny. Games were about fun and/or challenge (often you made your own challenges).

You sound like the only reason you have to play games is to get some payout of pixels and if there is no pixel jackpot to be had you can’t see the purpose in a video game.

It’s always seemed obvious to me that Anet designs games based on old-school video game mentality (hint, GW1 is the same way, there’s tons to do but almost none of it gets you prettier pixels). The purpose of games is the journey and the experiences you have while play. The purpose is the fun of playing. Designing a game around destinations is actually bad design. It just fosters the mentality that everything before the destination is a waste of time and very often just a pain in the kitten you wish didn’t exist (e.g. WoW leveling that everyone just views as a giant time sink they wish would just go away so they could play end-game only).

I know I’ll probably never change your mind but the point I’m trying to get at (and the OP seems to be as well) is that the problem isn’t with the game. The problem is with you and your preoccupation with collecting pixels and skipping as much of the game as you can in your pursuit of pixels. If that’s all games are to you then that’s fine. There are games for you, go play one.

If you ever decide you want to play a game for the sake of playing a game and, you know, have fun doing it I’m sure GW2 will still be here waiting for you to come have fun.

I wholeheartedly agree, this also makes me sad and I feel the current generation of gamers has a really strange perception of “fun” in games. That’s why they make games like Counter-Strike Global Offensive, with screenfilling rewards popping up all the time, the gameplay is still exactly the same as a decade ago though.

I don’t have any problems myself, but I do understand.

Other players are more used to different set-ups in MMOs. And this game isn’t perfect.

This game actually does a pretty lousy job of explaining the game’s fundamental mechanics like dynamic events or boons/conditions.
(Some players haven’t seen all the neat-o videos explaining the break-the-mold game-design. They just heard it’s good, bought it, and jumped in.)

GW2 has actually lost a lot of players because they were looting around for a quest-giver and the game did nothing to explain how Hearts/DEs were to replace quests.

Many many many MMOs have been designed around the idea that it’s just a quest-grind to the level-cap. Only after you reach there do you join the rest of the player-base in “challenging” content.
And the MMOs that don’t, solely rely on social-mechanics (friendships) or the fun of grinding mobs/quests (basic enjoyment) to keep you enticed.

Understanding people’s preconceptions is important to getting them to like a product, and ANet has yet to do anything to smooth that out IN THE GAME – It’s really all been up to the players to learn/explain from experience.

Most players don’t even know you can type /wiki [keyword(s)] to open the wiki page.
Most players don’t think/want to use an out-of-game database to help.

The game is amazing, but it sucks at introductions.

I really hate when somebody actually opens a positive thread once in a year and instantly there’s somebody trolling in to ruin it with negativity.

PS: if you don’t get the concept of hearts and DEs within a few minutes, you’d probably be better off playing tetris. Even my girlfriend understood this instantly, and she’s below casual. The game doesn’t explain everything – it lets you explore. Which is a major part of GW2. Everything else is in the wiki, which is tightly integrated for a reason.

Before that sure-loot patch I used to get 1-3 raress from a single event and at least a blue from veterans and champions. Back in those days I was mainly farming those 2 camp protect events in orr.

Then I’m glad this has been fixed.

PS: people don’t seem to get the concept of MF. +100% on a very small chance is still a very small chance.

It’s random at times.

No, it’s random ALL the time. That’s why it’s called RNG. And people are really, really bad at doing stochastics in their head.

I mapped 6 areas since the patch and in that time I got 1 rare, hand full of green and hand full of blues. Rest was all junk. My first character that I mapped with made about 50g just from mapping and drops, however this one made a little over 15. Usually at the end of the day, all I have is junk (grey) and whatever it is I gathered. I don’t even bother with champions anymore as they still drop nothing for me. Sometimes I get a grey item but that is a rare case.

You’ll get exotics for completing maps later. I’m constantly getting rares while gathering/chopping/mining, not to mention the ones from dragons. I actually have ~15 ectos in my bank, not to mention all the other t6 mats, and didn’t farm anything at all and I’m not using any MF buffs.

CC should be more relevant. That way, players actually hold onto the skill instead of spamming it off cooldown. Look at stuns, fears, knockdowns … they are all forms of control, but you cannot chain stun or chain fear a player. Hence, you end up using them either off cooldown to provide an opening, or not at all …

That was a design decision, players hate being CCed.

Unfortunately, prices keep skyrocketing, but my income has not increased hardly at all (much like real life) since I first began playing in September.

Almost nothing has “skyrocketed”, just check the value of basic supplies like copper or iron ore. Not even the price of, for example, Ectoplasms changed that badly. When the game was launched, nobody had any gold. All wealth was artificially introduced by generating gold from NPCs. Now the distribution of wealth starts to settle, completely normal process. Back then, people also didn’t have enough gold to put precursors on the TP for high prices because of the fee (which is one of the necessary gold sinks), not to mention buy them for such prices. Also there’s an increasing demand for precursors because more people complete the prerequisites for legendary weapons now, while the supply hardly increases. As long as people are willing and able to pay these prices, such abolutely luxury items will become more expensive. The price also reflects the required effort for many people, buying and wasting items on the mystical forge.

Are you really complaining that you cannot simply charge into a mass of enemies and take them out all on your own when there’s a bunch of NPCs around to help? Melee warriors are already very strong in PvE. Being a barbarian doesn’t mean that you don’t have to use your brain, looking from the game’s perspective. Not even in Diablo III. You can lead the army, but not take on all enemies at the same time. I’m sure you know how to avoid damage and lose aggro after having played so far. That’s not a fundamental game problem, but a problem with players acting fundamentally unwise.

Hello,
I’m having a lot of bugs during my story quest “Forging the Pact” (lvl 62 mesmer quest)
Thing is, I’ve had to restart this quest 5 times because I keep ending up falling through the ground in water, or ending up behind walls and not being able to move. After the fifth try, I decided to make a complaint because this really disturbs my gameplay experience. I hope someone can fix things up there, because it’s really annoying.

I completed that quest too as a mesmer and I actually had zero problems. I jumped off a ledge out of curiosity, but I managed to get back. While there are often flaws like holes in the maps, I really wonder how you managed to fail this quest several times in a row. Just try to stay on the main paths, fighting the enemies is really easy as a mesmer anyway so there’s really no need for special tricks or (ab)using terrain, I actually did it in white vendor trash equip mostly.
If you find reproducable problems, proceed as Jeffrey suggests of course. Otherwise, don’t try to be too witty and just do what you’re supposed to do, if it was heavily broken in general nobody would be able to complete it.

I just finished the PvE part of world completion (somewhere around 90% now) and kill a dragon now and then, no farming, no dungeons, not “playing the TP”. Considering what I spent on equipment, travelling and repairs and what I have left now, I made ~100g just by selling crap to the vendor and other items on the TP without putting much effort in it. Doesn’t make me rich, but I can afford anything I need. Except a precursor or all other items for legendaries – which I don’t really “need” and which would require more effort. I still have a load of T6 mats on the bank though. If you’re actually playing the game and gather/chop/mine everything in your way, there’s no way you could end up “poor”. There’s no “bad economy”, just players unwilling to do the math.

Personal Story and lots of deaths...

I didn’t stumble across any ridiculous difficulty during my personal story. Not saying there are no problems with other classes or in other story steps I didn’t experience, but as Jeffrey said, thinking for a second instead of just running in sometimes helps. And everytime there are NPCs with you – try to keep them alive and rezz them if possible. They often die quickly and they don’t do much damage, but they take aggro and give you time.

Price on server transfer

Since they’re doing a 1:1 conversion, it’s even worse in Europe. For the price of a server transfer, I could go to a cinema and watch two overlength 3D movies.

/e: which leads me to the question: can I purchase gem cards in the US when I travel there and use them here in Europe later?

Any RPers or RP-heavier Servers?

It should be noted that Tarnished Coast is the unofficial North American RP server, while Piken Square is the unofficial European RP Server.

Drakkar Lake for German only players, probably not relevant for him but just for completeness.

That’s one of the big points people are trying to make here. Make another more reliable way of acquiring them other than the MF or having to rely on the TP and it’s outrageous prices.

Another way to achieve them would probably also drop the prices on the TP to an affordable level, win-win.

I want precursors to be Account Bound.

So you completely have to rely on RNG? That’s not really better.

RNG is a different issue from TP prices. I’ll tell you my position on both:

TP Prices: I don’t think people should be able to purchase legendaries or precursors. It completely cheapens the accomplishment of getting a Legendary, and eliminates any real prestige value to it.

RNG: I think that precursors should be craftable, and a major component of the recipe should include account bound items. I’m happy for there to be a a chance of a drop, as well, but there should be a way to craft one and get around the RNG altogether, without “buying” it being an option.

I agree on that then.

gw2spidy to see what’s happening.

Spidy doesn’t really show you what’s happening. John already explained why it doesn’t and gave us some real numbers. Check your facts.

You could have lost some seconds to gather some informations…..
Just browsing any precursor threads will explain you how precursor are gold seller and speculators driven….

Not players driven…

Yeah, because only gold sellers sell and especially buy precursors. Try to think about that again. And maybe take a second and gather some information given by John on why it isn’t possible to manipulate the economy as a whole, because a few rare goods aren’t “the economy”.

stop attacking people and go in BLT section really…
There are few precursor on the market and data shows clearly what s happening….

They pronounced many times about precursor also if you can read..

P.S. gold sellers and speculators doesn t only BUY but place fake bets…..FYI…..
See thread about zap with evidence….

First you were attacking him. Second the data clearly shows you’re wrong, see here.

Legendaries are only cool if they are difficult to get.

So gambling is difficult? I beg to differ.

Expanding on the current skill system.

Chess is a game where pieces only move in 6 ways, but the possiblities are endless. The combat system is deeper than a lot of people realize.

Chess is the perfect example to prove how the combat system lacks depth, imo.
(or the people you mention didn’t play GW2 extensively enough yet to already know all the combat subtelties)

The current system is ok for any casual gamer that don’t mind repeating the same button sequence, the same 3 builds for 6 monthes straight (aka people who don’t play that much).
But for any “traditional” mmo gamer, who is used to play 30-50 hours per week, it can grow really, really old very quickly. The current system lacks choices.

Strange, I play a ton, and I’m not bored. Seems to me, maybe it’s you.

Because I swap weapons a lot. I don’t just use one weapon. That’s part of the system. I swap out utility skills at need too. Some are useful in certain situations, some in others. Same for major traits. The stuff is there. If you don’t use it you can hardly fault the system.

Then to each one his own needs

Of course I swap weapons a lot, utility too, and I abused group combos with friends as soon as the game was released. I also spent hours on web-based trait calculator to milk all the possible configurations. But still, I didn’t feel surprised by the system anymore back in December.
It’s only me though, and I don’t generalize my case …. But I would be surprised if all the players who tried the game in september (including the ones who stopped, indeed) did all feel the system was as fresh as at release, monthes later.

I’m with Vayne, never gets old for me. I like the simplicity while still having sufficient choices where there isn’t a lot of redundancy and completely useless or inferior skills. I’m switching weapons and utilities a lot and I really love the clean UI. I’m not really baffled that a game gets boring when played 50 hours a week though. WoW became boring quickly too when I did that. And I consider it kind of insulting to be called a casual gamer because I have a life and play less (maybe 10 hours a week), I’m probably more of a “traditional” MMO player than most others will ever be, actually playing GW2 as an MMORPG and being a long time Ultima Online player. And everyday I can witness what understanding of game mechanics those “core” gamers with full exo equip, legendary and a star next to their name have, not being able to dodge a single attack at the temples or asking in chat what a combo is.

Is that so much of a problem elsewhere? We were doing the temple events all the time all day long on Drakkar Lake EU, and that server isn’t even particularly highly populated iirc. Maybe they should consolidate some NA servers if they’re that empty.
