What gets me is that people come onto these forums and just post negative comments without the evidence to support their claims.

It’s simple; if you don’t like it, play something else. It’s clear to me that you’re wasting your time coming on to these forums to whine about a game that you dislike. You are probably in the minority anyways.

As replicant already stated, there has been and is a lot of evidence on everything that’s heading in a wrong direction.
The last part is just… wrong. And arrogant. The thread about ascended gear has shown how many people still care about the game, and many of us who complain don’t dislike the game, the opposite is true. We love the game, and we don’t want it to be ruined by ANet, breaking their promises.

You got it how? On a single map or on more? I got it yesterday, but I have to admit I did it from crafting in Divinity’s Reach. Can you confirm it can be achieved even if you change maps? I’m curious.

Also did it by crasfting, quickest and easiest way anyway.

You forgot the biggest nerf of all: Our illusions failing to summon if someone dodges, blocks, goes invulnerable, or blinds you.

Small correction: this only affects phantasms, clones still work. This forces you to trait deceptive evasion and further reduces build versatility though. The only defensive trait that relies on phantasms only is phantasmal healing, partly defensive weapon skills affected are phantasmal warden and phantasmal mage, utility skills phantasmal defender and phantasmal disenchanter. Still it’s not a well-thought-out change though and I agree the impact on our class is exceptionally dramatic.

So the arguments regarding how it gives someone an unfair advantage in pvp is useless when ascended gear doesn’t even EXIST in pvp, with the exception of WvW eventually, but thats 500v500v500 so with that many players it REALLY doesn’t matter whether or not YOU have Ascended gear or not when you have a full SERVER to coordinate with.

That’s just wrong. You don’t fight 500 people in WvW, you’re often fighting small groups or single players. Not everybody is in the main zerg. And especially an organized group will always have the best gear, so the stat bonuses from multiple players even sum up.

You will only be able to congratulate them on getting rid of bots when 3rd party sites no longer exist because they no longer have gold to sell. So, it’s a bit premature to congratulate them as the sites are still bustling and there will be no positive impact on the economy though anything they have done to date.

What the hell ? I hope you are’nt serious.Do you realize its not anets job to take down those sites, nor is it in their power ?.Those sites are legal to exist.Anet certainly deserves to be praised how they handled the bot situation, they sure are still here, but not in the massive amounts i used to see them and they were quick with handling it.

He actually has a point there, if those sites still offer gold at almost the same prices, that gold must have been farmed somehow, so the bots cannot be gone. It probably just takes them more effort than just the usual bot trains.

I’ve actually been impressed by this article, not only because I like numbers, but also because it mentions things, like keeping a blacklist of compromised known passwords, that are just well-thought-out.
There was one day when a colleague told me his WoW account had been hacked and he didn’t know how. He asked me for help, so we checked his PC with some popular tools and it seemed fine. I setup a blank PC with just the AV scanner he has been using and went through every site he had visited in his browser history, feeding the traffic to an additional AV scanner with advanced heuristics and our corporate IDS. I finally stumpled upon a site that looked pretty unsuspicious, but not only used an exploit to execute binary code, but also managed to actually bypass both AV scanners. With so much effort and criminal energy put into spying out passwords, there’s hardly a chance of being completely secure. Two-factor authentication already helps a lot, but being able to restore accounts after a hack would be a must have.
I totally think ANets security is above average though.

if you know how to maneuver around or an opponent and dodge or know how to build up your class to counter theirs then the gear really doesn’t matter as much.

What if the other player also knows how to play his class? People are always assuming you’re playing against weaker classes or clueless players when it comes to this. Losing against an opponent in WvW will always have that “was he actually better or was it only his gear” feeling in the future (assuming ascended gear won’t be as easy to get as exotics).

How many here are playing less? And why?

1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?

1. I don’t actually play the game less yet because I still have world completion on my list. Well, after that… I don’t want to join the grind that has becomce common now. Probably I won’t get into the mists anyway since it already seems hard to find groups starting at level one.
2. not yet, but FotM and ascended gear actually were a big deal for me, heaving been a WoW and grind addict some years ago.
3. as I said, I’l probably start playing less after world completion and will only return for one-time events and addons. Maybe I’ll be back when ascended gear can be obtained in a variety of other ways (especially excluding dungeons) and when I can be sure that there’s no other rarity with higher stats planned.

Mesmer is my favorite profession to play in PvP, because it’s so much fun to watch your opponents run around either attacking clones, or damaging themselves with confusion on them.

You’re actually playing competitive PvP relying on that? I guess you meant “trololo I’m a lvl1 guy testing the game” WvW enemies…

Look at the pretend elitist, portal is a great game winning tactic in tpvp also… Notice I said tactic something you clearly dont understand perhaps you should try whatever class you think is OP…. you might quit the game when you cant win with a normal class. Mes is strong.

I didn’t say it’s not strong. I also didn’t say anything about portals or any elite skill, be it moa, mass invisibility or time warp. Imo mesmers are not OP, but the strongest class. But they’re not strong because people are actually confused by clones.

Which leads us back to the broken concept of farming low HP event mobs. I really hope that the changes Chris Whiteside talked about in his blog post finally lead to proper scaling of these events or remove drops from event mobs at all, like it was during the Karka event.

Those were separate fixes. The LoS fix was justified, but they didn’t consider that we don’t really have reliable ground-targeted damage AoE capabilities to be used in sieges. Also, LoS is broken of course, but that’s a problem all classes have to deal with. It just hits us a bit harder. The other change is complete bs they obviously didn’t think through. Being able to double-dodge and also kill a primary source of our damage as well as many defensive abilities doesn’t compute and is nothing any other class has to deal with.
We can still get out clones in all cases, I just don’t like the idea of being forced to trait deceptive evasion, now even more.

I have not done the fractal dungeon (or most dungeons), i am in no hurry to do it (or most dungeons), and this gear they released is only good for that dungeon.

What exactly am i missing? Where is this unwanted but necessary grind i hear people talking about?

Someone point out as i don’t see it (but perhaps because i am not looking for it).

If i don’t want to grind that gear out i don’t have too.

Is this a mistaken assumption? I dont understand the rage. . . and i LIKE gear progression….. but is this even that?

The game was meant to be based on skill, not gear. If they removed all bonus stats from WvW and made them PvE only, like it already is with PvP, most of us were fine. Some people would still be angry because they don’t want the second best gear in the game, but that’s a personal problem I wouldn’t agree with.

The concept for the future of endgame in GW2 reflects some major changes, but the actual implementation in the game has been very minor (new tier of gear, but only a few pieces released). These changes have not unbalanced the game yet; people are not winning landslide victories because some of their players have ascended trinkets.

The key word in this text is “yet”. When should we start to complain, when they’re done rolling out everything? We can already tell what the minimum stat difference will be judging by the items we know so far, and they surely will not introdce items that are worse in the future.

And we have a very vocal number of people who don’t say that but that what ANet did was just the first step. Unnecessarily increasing stats in Ascended Gear is an abundantly clear sign. And those worries have not been proven ill-founded by saying that they’re not gonna add a new tier every three months.

99% GPU utilization is not generally “bad”, the opposite is often true. People usually want to have their GPUs running at high utilization for higher FPS and quality. This is kind of different than having your CPU run at 100% load constantly.
It’s important to take all metrics into consideration, especially GPU clock, temperature and memory utilization (if the memory is full, FPS often drop dramatically – I’m talking about VRAM here, not system RAM).

Iruwen.3164

Afair at least 300000 players (needs citation) have been online during the Karka event
I guess the servers scale, so “high” may mean something different in absolute numbers tomorrow than it does today. I wouldn’t think of physical servers anyway, they’re probably scaling and roaming instances (zones) amongst physical machines for load balancing as needed. Which is why you’ll end up on different overflows on zoning. During the Karka event, probably too many people were in one zone (Southsun Cove) so even the overloads were overloaded (eheh).
Those technical details are nothing I’d make too public anyway. I always see enough players in all zones on my server and as long as there are at least 20 active people left in my primary guild, I don’t really care.

Anet pre-sold well over 2 million copies of GW2 (that doesn’t count all the copies they’ve sold since then). Assuming exactly 2 million pre sales if only 1 out of 20 players still play that’s 100000 people still playing the game.

You’re good at making up numbers. ANet said that way more than 10% of all players are using the forums, can’t find the post now but maybe somebody else can help.
And at least 300000 people have been online during the one time event afair, there has also been an info on that.

Actually, the correct approach to this problem would be to fix the events. Enemies dying right after being spawned is just not right. Event trashmobs shouldn’t give loot at all but a higher reward in the end for event completion imo. All this AoE and tagging bs has to stop.

A lot of players really enjoyed the trailblazing aspect of unveiling the new Southsun Cove map, specifically the feeling of discovery and being part of the land grab.

I call bs bingo on this one, but ok. I’m missing skill bugfixes on the todo list. But to say something positive: it’s good to see that event scaling is actually on the list after so many months. It’s broken for both too few players (too many mobs) as well as too many players (too few and especially way too weak mobs).

You won’t believe it, but there are actually good suggestions on how to improve the balancing for all classes in all forums, not the type of statement you’d expect (like “increase our dps by 200% and make us invincible, then we’re fine”). People are actually thinking on ways to improve the game for everybody, unlike your strange attempts at balancing (like increasing the mesmer portal cooldown from 60s to 90s, which fixes none of the underlying problems and changes basically nothing).

Can I use a different app with Guild Wars 2?

Any app which supports the TOTP/OATH standard (IETF RFC 6238) can be used with the Guild Wars 2 two-factor authentication scheme. Please consult the provider of your app to determine if it meets this standard.

Since the question just came up here again it may be worth a try, I doubt people actually look this up in the FAQ before asking though, so it’s probably a just waste of effort

Don’t fret. One of the devs slipped that they have two (2) designers to balance 500 skills and 480 traits. With 2 (two) designers to do that for PvP and PvE is it a wonder the necros have reached 100 bugs in their thread?

That so many traits don’t even work, or work erroneously?

That patch after patch only minor things are done, and fixes touted are proven to not do what they advertised, AKA fixing.

Two designers…. for 500 skills… This is a very simple and basic ‘You bought the game now, so shush, or go play something else. We don’t care now the cash has been spent’.

So an ability that was benefiting from an unintentional bug, which has been fixed, is now going to have its damage adjusted back up?

The bugfix eventually reduced the main dps source of a gs mesmer to less than 50%, which was unintended as Karl already pointed out. Or there is another bug in place. Anyway, that reduction has a heavy impact on gameplay and we’re simply a bit sensitive as people troll in with no understanding of our class and want to justify that unintended nerf, probably because they can’t compete in PvP (because of their lack of understanding).

Are there any thoughts on possibly adding the option to use a Key-Chain device Authentication to log in with?

No plans at this time, although it has been discussed. There are issues with any system, and I don’t think we’re heading down that road.

This can already be done easily with any TOTP capable device (if ANet correctly implemented TOTP according to RFC 6238, wich they did according to the FAQ), please see my post and Keiko’s very good detailed reply on how to do it with a Yubikey here. The Battle.net authenticator Blizzard offers also is just a branded Vasco DIGIPASS GO 6, so this device could also be used (it’s more expensive but also a bit more secure because it doesn’t require a client component).
Also see this thread. Should I create a separate thread on that topic? Seems to be asked frequently. You could also add it to the FAQ for convenience.

The teams that work on PvP/WvW/Balance:

in PvP

Posted by: Iruwen.3164

Iruwen.3164

My concern is for PvE. Based on the team structure you’ve given so far (and again, I hope I’m not misunderstanding the process of reviewing balance changes), I’m getting the impression (that I hope you’ll correct) there is no developer champion for PvE (hearts, dungeons, dynamic events, general open world veteran and champion mob encounters, etc).

I raise this concern because, and as I’ve already repeatedly mentioned in the Mesmer forums, certain balance changes to the Mesmer due to PvP are impacting PvE gameplay. I don’t do PvP on Mesmer so I really have no idea how “OP” the class is that it will merit nerf upon nerf every patch, but it’s disheartening to see this because as I was leveling the Mesmer, I was struggling with it more than other classes (necro, engineer, ranger) until about level 40-ish, and continue to struggle with it when it comes to loot tagging for DE encounters that are AoE centric.

Same here, playing solo PvE with the mesmer actually gets worse and worse. The only good thing I could say about it is that we rarely die. ANet said WvW isn’t supposed to be completely balanced, if it’s more PvE than PvP then leave it as is and don’t break PvE. PvP doesn’t matter to most people at all, so separate the skills for PvP and WvW/PvE as already done for other classes and GW1.
Also, as I already said here, a lot of the changes seem rushed and untested.
Portal recharge change from 60s to 90s- doesn’t really change anything. Should have been a five port limit or something like that, that would instantly fix the problem of a whole invisible army appearing right in your back. Also, its duration is still broken since… always.
Greatsword damage reduction slipped through unnoticed, I’ll never understand how this could happen if there’s actually any beta testing at all.
Moa doesn’t last ten seconds, many times it’s 3 to 6 seconds.
There are more examples for a lot of other classes and skills (see MarzAttakz’s reply for example).
And a lot of bugs, even just wrong tooltips, have been in the game since headstart.
So no, this isn’t good work. And although I appreciate this form of communication and openness, I’d be happier if those problems were actually fixed, because then people wouldn’t complain that much in the fist place. They’re just voicing their opinion more and more aggressively because important things are simply not handled properly.
I’m not the one who determines what’s important and what’s not, but gamebreaking bugs surely are. And we can expect a fix for less relevant bugs within three months. Just talking about bugs here, not even balancing.

There was no promise…. a manifesto is not a promise or binding contract/document… it has no weight in forcing the author or reader to follow it. It’s generally a bad rule of thumb to stray from your guidelines, but it’s perfectly within their right to do it.

Ah ok, so the United States Declaration of Independence is a rule of thumb.

I still don’t understand why there needs to be 30 threads all arguing the same thing. It’s in the game, it’s going to be able to be acquired in other ways and it’s most likely here to stay. I think people need to move along. This debate is getting worse than politics.

As in politics, the only way to change things is to voice your opinion. ANet should just do a poll: increased stats on ascended items, yes or no. If the majority actually votes for yes, I’ll accept it.

Fact is, in the two gaming forums I’m actively using, I’ve never seen people lose interest in a game so fast as with GW2. The threads are literally dead by now and the guilds we founded don’t exist any more. Two people have been posting there lately and said that if they hadn’t already quit playing, they would have done so after ascended gear was introduced.
Fact two, of all the people we invited to play the game, not a single one is going to pay for GW2 after this weekend. Even my gf stopped playing, although she really likes to participate in my hobbies (and she actually bought the game on release). I’m not really sure why I’m still playing, probably because I want to do world completion so I have seen everything and solo PvE is still quite fun.

Should max stat gear be easy to be obtained?

No. Max set gear should be a goal to achieve. It should be based on the amount of work one is willing to put in….

Even the phrasing is wrong here, as a game shouldn’t ever be considered work. I wouldn’t care if better gear had an effect on PvE only, especially instances. But it also gives an advantage to people in WvW, not because they’re better, but because they have more time. This punishes people for having a job, a family and so on.

Good for you. I’d like EvE more if it wasn’t for the fact that combat is dull.

You, sir, are doing it wrong.

EVE’s pvp combat (pve is indeed dull) is the only time in any video game (even now after I’ve played EVE for almost 4 years) when my palms get sweaty with excitement.

OT: I hope you contributed to this project http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com

Thanks for the replies…and yes, the post is meant to be a bit of a satire, but hey…we all know how much love and attention Arenanet puts towards the tiny details of their world, so I can guarantee you nothing is done without a lot of thought.

I was just laughing so hard considering the latest patch They constantly do things clearly nobody thought about (or at least tested them) before.

I think we’re over emphasizing the stat increase. I’m not saying it isn’t substantial, or that it should even be allowed in WvW, but I don’t think it’ll have the cataclysmic impact that folks seem to give it.

It’s not the stat increase alone. It’s the gate that ANet opened which they promised they never would.
