It wasn’t an accident. I’ve had dh launch me 50 meters in the air for an instant kill using a similar bug on Temple, pulling me through an obstacle.
Ranger also deliberately use the longbow knockback to do this.
Sadly, some players in this game are very prone to gaming the system.
Will it be fixed? No, I don’t think so. I think it’s for the same general reasons you can hit through a wall or obstacle in many cases.

Why population is low and matchmaking is hurting? Why I’m a rotten sport and feel like a real jerk when I log out after a night? Why PvE players take one look and run?
Here’s your answer. No one is a good sport with a 10% win rate. I’m a self – aware masochist and I keep trying. Still, I am asking myself why.
You know what would help balance a lot? Delete Trapper runes.
i agree with op in the sense that if GW2 wants to delve into the Esports scene, these are the issues that the dev’s have to adress
but at the same time to please this community you have to have cheesy bad mechanics that break the game.
anet cant have both
I find this post interesting. I’ve just come from Lion’s Arch ( GW1 version ) where I’ve been leveling a Domination Mesmer.
If the numbers were normalized ( my cane does 9-14 ) I think I’d woop many GW2 players in seconds. To be sure, the cries of “cheese” would be audible all the way up in Seattle. A GW2 player might not notice the hex or realize that they were killing themselves.
The same problem manifests with things like dh pull/trap and condition builds. It’s not that it’s OP it’s that it’s not “enemy bad, hit enemy.”
Players have demanded ease-of-use and screamed for nerfs when class skills required a complex response instead of merely “attack.”
I encourage the devs to keep moving back toward technical systems over ever higher damage and aoe. Also, look at systems that aren’t just reaction time based.
In GW1, even Scale trash are necromancers. You need to be able to respond to nuanced attacks.
True enough. I am a bad sport when I get hammered. That’s beside the point though.
The point is that teams used it to “farm” solos. That’s a major reason population is the way it is now.
Three straight losses in unranked this evening, all to premades.

Wow, I am obviously taking this thread and PvP generally way too seriously. I guess that’s why we need holidays like April 1. Peace.
Nice troll ANET, had me going there for a second. Happy April Fool’s Day.
The reference to wanting a win streak was #sarcasm. I guess I didn’t make that clear enough.
As I said, the matches are much better, especially since the most recent patch with the MM selecting for non stacking.
I couldn’t have stated it better myself. I hope the Elohel comment was in sarcasm as well.
Come to think of it I don’t know why I posted to begin with. It was half in jest.
I’ve learned to back off immediately when a losing streak begins. This works but it means one less player in ranked for a day or two. Anyone else do similar?

Still, I’ve been roundly criticized for not having “at least” a 50% win rate. so, at this point, I feel bad when I drop below that. Perhaps others do to and that helps explain the low population? I guess that’s what the post was really trying to point out.
I do take pride in getting there with a non-HoT build. The core Mesmer feels more like a Mesmer to me. so, I choose to play that way.
( I would also point out that in previous seasons I struggled to stay in the 30% win rate range.. so yes, I have improved. )

LOL! I’m all smiles after my first go at The Super Adventure Box. The creator/s deserve a lot of praise.
I’m reminded of happy afternoons chasing “high score” on games in this style as a kid. Those were uncomplicated times when politics were an occasional discussion at the dinner table.
Bravo Zulu ANET! ( the code flags b and z in combination mean “Well Done” under the the ICOS International Code of Signals.) pixellated slightly in honor of Moto.
I’ve played a power Sw/Sw staff build successfully in PvE. The build is not recommended for PvP though.
You can shatter/use sword 2. This works well enough for PvE cruising. I’d recommend blink and Time Warp and the other utility as needed for the situation.
Twin Bolts would be a nice look.
I was feeling really good. My win rate was above 50% on a core Mesmer build with some matches as close as 499-501. This last patch really evened the matches a lot.
The last time my win rate rose above 50% this season I was “rewarded” with 8 straight stompings.
The past two matches have been heavy stompings. I want my chance to have some of those wonderful win streaks other players got to enjoy in s1-s4. That way I can flip my hair and say “learn to play,” like a real pro.
Seriously though.. now I need to take some days off ranked and find a good peak hour when I feel lucky again to get back in the swing. That way my fellow players won’t mock me for having a low win percentage.
Because you see, it’s not about having fun.
I can see the value and attraction of teams. The problem is that teams got placed against solos and abused it heavily.
Now, “pre-made” is a term of insult. This is the fault of the teams who steamrolled solos and often verbally abused them in the process.
For me, matches have been much more competitive after the change. I’m waiting a bit longer in the queue, but I don’t mind that a bit.
GG ANET.
After reading my own post, I realized that I may have “deposited all materials.” I did finally get the Vinewrath’s light and in so doing finished my collection.
This was apparently not a bug.
This has happened now on multiple days and I carefully verified it. 5 attempts later….
I began the Vinewrath fight with 250 quartz crystals and 25 charged quartz crystals for good measure. I clicked on the lens as directed. I carefully checked and verified this prior to entering the event.
I Jumped straight into the vinewrath’s beam, so much so that my screen went full purple.
Nothing happened. Afterward I checked and found that my quartz crystals had been returned to my bank. They were somehow automatically returned out of inventory.
This is already a long and hard grind, not to mention costly. Please make the mechanic work.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I’ve just come back from my 4rth and 5th attempts. I started with 25 charged quartz crystals and 250 quartz crystals and was hit beyond any doubt. I jumped into the center of the beam.
No result.
Queen Jennah, beyond doubt.
Countess Anise is no slouch either. She can portal from Divinity’s Reach to Beetletun without needing to go there first to lay down Portal Entre.
Thanks to both, I’m still trying for it.
I have faced the Vinewrath twice now with cyrstals and eye. Nothing happens. This is the very last item on the list before I get the “recipe” for completing The Legend.
With the money and resources already spent, I could have simply bought The Bifrost and I admit being unhappy that this final step does not appear to be working.
Does anyone know some bizzare dance or similar thing I have to do to get the Vinewrath’s light?
Players who play for rewards are bad players, because they don’t play for the competition. If more players like that were in PvP population, then match quality goes down more.
It doesn’t follow that players are bad because they are motivated by rewards. This is a destructive attitude that needs to go away.
I hope that you get what you deserve.
I find it great. The matches are much more pleasant not facing dh stacks. this change has been a long time coming and I hope it is permanent.
( I’m currently at exactly 50% w/l on the season with 76 games. I’m running a core Mesmer build because I don’t particularly like chrono. If ANET would tone down the elite specs a bit more, I could see core specs coming back strong. Maybe allow certain runes/amulets/ sigils on core builds only?)
@Reaper Alim and @sephiroth Of course, exceptions do exist such as you guys.
Actually now that I think about it, “guild wars” was the reason I joined GW2 as well as I loved GvG and AB in the first game. But in the end I barely touched PvP for 3 years. Which was maybe due to actually quitting the game 6 months after launch as my old computer crashed anytime I played more than 30 minutes due to overheating.
Now, there’s no sign of either game mode present atm. The WvW version of GvG is crap at best in comparison to how glorious it was in the first game. It’s funny how after almost 5 years, there is no guild wars in Guild Wars 2.
The Guild Wars were over a couple of years before The Searing. In fact the Guild Wars led to the Charr invasion and the destruction of Orr and Ascalon. So, if you joined to fight in that conflict you are roughly 305 years late.
The game is about dealing with the aftermath of the Bloodstones and the wars that were fought to control them. ( not unlike the Silmarils in Tolkien’s universe )
The personal story begins in 1325 A.E, Whereas the the Second Guild War was over by 1020 A.E.

Star Trek Online, a sister game to GW2 allows gear differences in pvp. It’s almost strictly p2w and PvP is nearly non existent as a result.
GW2 made a smart choice equalizing gear.
I think that this is what actually happened: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FuacSgaWHbqk
It was linked in a pvp thread.
I have been spending more and more time in GW1. In fact, I just got back from the Ruins of Surmia. I haven’t PvP’d there yet…
Still, the community really is a community. If you ask for help you generally get it. The game play is all about strategy and management instead of reaction time.
I’m reasonably sure I’ll find the same in GW1 PvP, though I do expect a dose of salt too. You can buy the entire GW1, all the expansions for a bit less than HoT, if I’m not mistaken. So, I don’t see it going to free.
( On a personal note; Wow the GW1 Mesmer. They are fierce. The GW2 Mesmer doesn’t compare very well. )
With 7k games, I partly agree.
I am surprising a few people with a core Mesmer build in Bronze. I have HoT on both my accounts. Chronomancer doesn’t feel or play like a Mesmer, imo. So, to the extent that other players are not used to facing core builds, you can win a few. A Hambow war might be a potent surprise.
Matchmaking is attempting to work with a bare minimum of players. ANET continues to prioritize match speed over match quality. I think that’s the wrong decision.
The matchmaking kittens people off. I had over 50% wins on the season. then I got handed 8 straight heavily unbalanced losses. No, I’m not a good sport after being repeatedly hammered. I don’t think many are.
Teams exploiting solos would only make things worse.
Better the same meta than the old system where ANET would make one class or another OP for the season.
The problem isn’t so much power creep.. it’s excessive defense. Heavy armor can shrug off a group for quite a while with defenses. Then they deliver a huge burst. Oh and they can stealth and teleport too.
There’s really very little difference even between some of the classes. The capabilities and “powers” for lack of better terms have been diluted. Why play a squishy thief when you can stealth and jump burst on a much more survivable dh?
That may be true or not. Regardless, the system punishes playing. Every game risks rating. The leader boards is solely based on rating.
It doesn’t punish playing at all. Fear of playing ranked is completely psychological. If you’re in the neighborhood of your true rating, then there’s nothing to worry about.
Not true. With the current virtually random matchmaking. I was above 50% on the season. Then I got handed 8 straight heavily stacked matches.
I was obviously near my appropriate score.. then the matchmaker decided I needed to lose a bunch. Now in my case, it doesn’t affect the leader board.
It is very clear that best strategy for gaining and keeping leader board position is to play as few games as possible. The matchmaker is not reliably making even matches.
It is also abundantly clear that there is a caste system in place. A high rated player with poor placement matches isn’t going to bronze. Yet a Bronze player with excellent placement isn’t rising.
There is little, if any, real chance for major advancement. I do realize that the intent is to separate players for better matchmaking.
100 games? I have 69 at the time of this writing. I’m making a concerted effort to take it easy. In past seasons I’ve topped 100 games in the first week.
That’s not even close to sufficient. As a result people can avoid playing and avoid risk. Hence our lack of population.
Six straight losses.
Guess I’ll do what the pros do; Take some days off to increase my decay. Is that really fair or ethical? No. Does it help with population issues? No. Is it responsible to the community? No.
I feel bad, but I had a goal of getting a 50% w/l this season and climbing out of Bronze. I was within sight of that goal.
Prior to my loss streak, I had just over 50% wins. I got punished heavily. so, I guess I game the system like everybody else. My perception is that ANET doesn’t care.
TLDR Here is the basic problem, ANET; The system punishes playing often. Therefore, smart players don’t play. This results in low population. That, in turn, leads to poor matches. The poor matches reduce population still further.
just want to inform you decay doesnt give any advantage to you anymore…
That may be true or not. Regardless, the system punishes playing. Every game risks rating. The leader boards is solely based on rating.
Hence, the best strategy is to play a minimum of games. By it’s very nature, that system discourages playing and minimizes population. Low population leads to kittened matches.
We should go back to the old system of number of wins on the season. That’s a measure of skill AND of diligence and it encourages people to play.

Please add a small Scepter. The Bo staff skin would make an outstanding “magic wand.”
Only the Princess Wand skin is small enough in game that I don’t feel I’m wielding a cricket bat.I’d pay gems for such a skin.
Sadly that scepter isn’t available.. That’s exactly what I had in mind.
Please offer the Mesmer “Stylish” outfit from Post Searing Ascalon. You already offer the Rogue outfit ( Gwen’s Attire.)
In general, please offer a female light armor set without skirt or peplum.
I did finally get it, after multiple trips.
Yellow and blue ooze are apparently not dropping. I killed yellow oozes in Sparkfly Fen and again in Magellan’s cave without result.
I also solo’d the Giant Blue Ooze at Magellan’s and killed multiple smaller blue minions with no result.
This prevents me from completing the collection. Please fix.
The rewards for losing are the one and only reason to tolerate being stomped.
The present matchmaking is making very one sided matches. There’s not a lot of motivation to play against a stacked deck without rewards.
Here’s why: When I logged in tonight I had a 50% win ratio. Four straight heavily stacked matches and four straight hammerings later… I’m too kittened off to spend my time on this.
I think I’ll go grind for my GWAMM or spend my money on some other game.
Why should I be cannon fodder?
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
Sorry, but the “hardcore” PvP population is too small to support the game on it’s own.
We need the PvE people in the mix.
ANET has created a culture of “farming” and that’s what we’re seeing here. Perhaps there’s some way to make rewards performance based without demanding a win.
To get reward you need x number of points? That could be kills, revives, decaps etc. That way you’d have to be contributing to some extent.
2. Toxic community. Incredibly entitled community who believe they should win every match they play. Large number of people that curse in map chat, throw tantrums and then afk. Large number of people who blame everyone but themself when they are mediocre at best.
You misunderstand. In multiple seasons matches were deliberately uneven. I saw 68 straight losses. Others reported as many as 100 straight losses.
People simply don’t have as much tolerance and resilience as they once did. Matchmaking and balance have been issues for too long.
Yes, players are entitled to a fair match. If someone, anyone, is losing a high percentage of the time it is evidence that they are probably not fairly matched. There may also be other contributing factors.
I’m still playing. I’m solo queue’ing a PU Mesmer and bouncing around a 50% win rate.
I’m playing a lot fewer games this season, because if I get above 50% I’m immediately punished with a loss streak.
At Bronze, a 4 DH enemy team is a wildcard and might be an easy win.
I think the matchmaking is actually improved. Still after multiple seasons of deliberately tilted matches, I just don’t feel like trying to fight through a loss streak. I go fire up GW1 or something else instead.
I agree. I’d be completely willing to wait for better matches. ANET has the wrong idea prioritizing speed.
Maybe they are trying to bring us back to GW1. Haha. God i miss this game.
I’ve been playing GW1 PvE in preparation for PvP. That game is what? A decade old? Yet, it still has a scene in PvE and PvP. That’s pretty kittening good.
I think the devs should take a close look at what was done right. Perhaps allow us core multiclassing?
In GW1 there are literally dozens of builds for each class and at least 2 or 3 that are optimal for any given game mode.
Some nights, there ( subjectively ) are more players visible in GW1 than GW2.
Class specific builds would turn this game into something I absolutely don’t want to play. I signed up for Guild Wars 2, not a video game like OW.
At least I think ANET realizes they are not going to be successful trying to compete in that market against well established games with a better system of fixed builds.
Class specific MMR would be lovely. The trouble is they’d have to lock classes, pre-match. The community has shown that they simply don’t have confidence that ANET would handle such a system successfully.
The first requirement for fixing things would be to build trust in the community that match quality is going to be good. That would take a major effort on ANET’s part and I don’t see it happening any time soon.
I was running standard models. It was most definitely a warrior and not a rev. ( I do know the difference) It was definitely the same warrior.
The warrior followed me through the port. To be fair, he seemed as surprised as I was. He turned about randomly for a sec, disoriented, rather than finishing me off.
I ended up escaping by dropping down the well to the Tranquility altar. ( The port was from the periphery of mid to near the upper Tranquility spot.)
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I think anet would have been wise to go ahead and implement locking classes and profession MMR.
Not all decisions should be put to a vote.
I just came from a match in which an enemy warrior followed me through a portal. Has ANET nerfed another survival skill?
I’m seeing a lot of those stacks. Quite a few of them have been pretty poorly played though.
A dh stack isn’t a certain loss as it was back in earlier seasons.
RP is sadly lacking, though you can do the personal story through level 80 without buying anything.
