By definition, an invulnerability should defend from all attacks. The old Aegis and the old Mesmer Mainhand sword 2 were two examples, both nerfed. If CC could penetrate invulnerability, the latter would be meaningless.

Yes, warriors in particular are annoying during the time they are untouchable. Still as one who mains thief in PvE and Mesmer in PvP, You have plenty of evade. Wait them out, then hammer them.

I completed the crafting of the Bifrost. I’d say it was equivalent to 10 ish titles in GW1. Buying it would have been significantly easier and cheaper. Still, I have pride in a grind completed.

I did note that the Legendary was not account bound on aquire.

I’d like to be able to do Kasmeer’s clone army ( in Scarlet’s ship at the end of the LA attack. ) The corrupted Priestess of Lyssa in Arah P4 used to be able to generate and shatter 6 clones at a time as well.

Kasmeer’s portal makes me green with envy. Though Anise ported from the Palace to Caudecus’ Manor without travelling there first.

Mesmer says hello. Warrior has often been the golden child of ANET. Perhaps you remember the days of 5 hambows rolling over everything in sight? Mesmer languishing in trash tier for close to 2 years…

But to address the point of nerfs. I don’t honestly think warrior is OP at this point. It’s frustrating that I can’t really damage them while in berserk mode. They also have a very heavy burst. On the other hand, unless the player is fairly good at it, I can usually take a warrior, ( on a core Mesmer build.) You kite them and then hammer them when there immunity wears off.

It’s called Mirage because from a distance the spec looks amazing like water in a desert, but when you look at it up close the mechanics and balance disappears and you are left with nothing but sand and disappointment.

The problem is that DoTs in games like this are meant to be a ticking clock, not a sledge-hammer. “Condi burst” shouldn’t be a thing, ever.

The entire logic behind DoT’s is that they take a while to kill the opponent, but unless the opponent has a way of cleansing or ignoring that DoT damage, it is guaranteed damage. There’s no dodging it, no kiting it, if the spell hits, that’s damage that will seem insignificant at first, but devastating later on.

Power should be a blitzkrieg, Condis should be attrition, but with the current implementation they’re both blitzkriegs and that gives Condis a significant advantage.

As is, its a badly implemented mechanic defended only by the people who stand to gain something from its current implementation.

This is because cleanse is so prevalent. I can literally spam condi all day at an auramancer ele or DH and watch them shrug it off almost instantly.

DOT doesn’t work because of the excessive,( and sometimes passive,) cleanse and heal So, condi burst is the way to go. Yes, there’s a lot of condi.. but there’s even more cleanse.

As another poster noted, power kills a lot faster.

I have a theory that there’s a wave of people doing placement matches. So they get placed too high and trash whoever they happen to be placed with.

I spoke to one of the balance team at Pax West. He believed that Mirage was “in a good spot.”

After some questioning, he hinted that ANET’s idea is that the Mirage play around the mirrors, ( which make aoe weakness. )

According to that dev, Mirage is basically fine. I don’t see us getting help any time soon. He also talked about nerfing chronomancer and seemed to feel it was OP.

In my eyes, that’s out-of-touch. We’ll see.

Season 8 My Match Making - Response Please

Here’s my first game back after Pax West. This game was pure setup in terms of team class comps and we got to face 2 duos vs our 1.

I knew we were doomed when our trap dh ran for home, supplanting our thief.. then ran far. This game was a setup from the moment the match started and that is not fun.

Sure , passive aggressive arguments can be made, but the simple fact is, this is why population is low.

~EDIT~ I’m the blue side Mesmer with 3 top stats. The l2p people should take that into consideration. I’m also playing a core build because I dislike the number of nerfs and restrictions to Chronomancer.

To answer some of the concerns; Smiting has always been a thing for Monks. In fact, that’s one of the first missions for a new Monk, “The Blessings of Balthazar.” A new monk ’toon would find GW2 maneageable.

I’m not saying balance around needing a Monk. There’s content in GW1 that I have very little chance of accessing now because it was designed around a large party of human players with heal/support specs. Slaver’s Deep is a good example.

What I am saying is that a Monk class would permit the other classes to be more focused on there specific role. Right now, ANET faces the issue of shoe horning excess healing/condi removal into every class. That dilutes the classes and causes balance issues. A good example is the Warrior longbow heal combo.

A healer class, like Monk, would allow the other classes to be much more focused and less “Swiss Army Knife.” It would be a major game changer in most modes and potentially a much needed shot-in-the-arm for PvP.

I dual main in GW1, Mesmer and Monk.

Currently, with the power creep, ANET finds itself in the position of needing pve situations to be harsher and harsher. This is offset by having exclusive areas such as Heart of Thorns and The Crystal Desert. Should this trend continue, it won’t surprise me to see players using nukes in the relatively near future. ( That’s a joke, but not by much. )

tldr: ANET, bring back Monk. This would permit you to create more focused classes that did not need to carry there own heal/condi remove/boon capacity. This would make creating traits and skills far easier, sinceyou wouldn’t need to roll those things into odd skills.

Besides, the Monk role is traditional in Guild Wars and a lot of fun to play.

whats funny anet when publish GW2 state that every class can play each role

thief – dmg roamer for 3 years with d/p
ele – short time for s/f dmg dealer. mainly d/f support (monk)
guard – had it all bunker, dmg, condition, support
warrior – sustain mainly with condi and power
engi – sustain mainly, used to be condi
ranger – short time dmg, mostly support and bunker these days
mesmer – had it all bunker, dmg, condition
necro – mainly condition, short time power.

so each team had to choose ele or druid. same basic of gw1.

Yes, as I pointed out obliquely, Auramancer Ele began to be the new monk. Support guard or rev is arguably able to fill the Paragon role.

Sadly Auramancer got cut to pieces because of the tears. There’s nothing in the current game that is equivalent to say, a UA monk or Paragon with fast resurrect.

The return of Monk, for real, would be a game changer.

Non-meta broken builds

GS Power Mesmer is underpowered vs. DPS specs.
GS Power Mesmer is strong as all hell against anything that is supposed to be bunker.
Bunkers can’t deal the DPS they need to pressure the Mesmer.
The Mesmer however, can stealth 1 shot bunkers.

Again, more lopsided balance. Power Mesmer not broken in the aspect of being OP.
I would more refer to it as a suicide bomb build.

Power GS Mesmer is high risk and only moderate reward. If Mesmer were to receive another significant damage nerf, it would once again be trash tier. ( As it was literally for years. )

It is not the fault of Mesmers that others are unwilling to learn to play against them. I think your last sentence is the most honest. I, for one , think that committing suicide is not an effective tactic for regular use in PvP.

These dishonoured players are making a mockery of the devs, and the devs are really not helping themselves with their flip flop actions.

They’re not making a mockery of ArenaNet as permanently dishonouring all their existing accounts is officially clarified on reddit to be the intended punishment. Future accounts were not mentioned and the word permanent still accurately describes how long the dishonor on their accounts will last.

Tl;dr, players wanting to believe ArenaNet has reduced original punishment but it’s as intended

You miss the point. There’s no punishment. Let’s see; get paid $400 usd to cheat in a tourney. Account gets banned. Buy a new account. You’re still $300 + USD in the black. That’s not punishment.

Mirage
Infinite horizons should be made base and replaced by Mirror-on-Shatter which now gives you mirage cloak when you use a shatter skill. No more RNG. Mirror on Shatter should then be replace by a trait that causes ambush attacks to remove boons (works with weak GS ambush).

Mirrors should now either produce a clone or refill one of your endurance bars instead. There should be a 3rd endurance bar that can only be refilled by mirrors. That way you can benefit from the mirrors when you want to.

Or, the Mirrors could be used for offense/area control by bring back the concepts of Confusing Combatant (confusion on illusion death), Crippling Dissipation (crippling on illusion death) and Debilitating Dissipation (and a random condition on clone death) that were phased out almost 2 years ago. You touch your mirror, get Mirage Cloak. Enemy touches it, it ‘shatters’ (Mirrors break, right?) and they take some damage and get condi.

I don’t know, it needs something. I spent an hour with it and said, “This will never get me out of Chrono as it stands.”

This. If Mirage is to be dependent on clones, we need clone death traits back. Also the skills need to work on moving targets, not just target golems.

Axe 1 needs some range and some damage. Scepter is a much better choice.

Axe 2 needs a punishing block like that of scepter.

Axe 3 is even worse than swap on sword at this point. The nerfs , special line of sight rules and etc make it useless. Since it fails to hit moving targets or targets with any terrain difference between them and us, it’s confusion aspect is meaningless.

We already have automated tournament.

Why is this still a topic?

Automated tournament != ranked queue.

Why should my only option to play with my friends in any form of competitive pvp be scheduled at specific times/days that none of the players can control?

Well, you should have known the answer right?

They would have implemented team queue if they have a reasonable amount of teams to make the queue work. AT is their compromised solution for team players given current player population.

With so few teams, their queue will be like either 30-60min queue time, or maybe you will just be kept match against the same team. This will make their game look bad.

I don’t care if I have a longer queue time, and only ANet would know the average anyway. Don’t waste our time speculating.

You know what makes the game look bad? The inability to queue as a team in a team based game.
As anecdotal as it is; I’ve already had friends quit because solo/duo queue for ranked isn’t enough.

Not to mention there are MANY other factors that played a role into the solo/duo/group queues.
Back when we originally had group queues, there was literally NO reward structure in spvp. There wasn’t purpose or anything to achieve or obtain.
That had a much larger effect on spvp population than anything.

I am just telling you the hard truth. No need to argue with me.

Sorry that your best bet is to quit the game with your friends. The situation of small player base is not likely to change.

You are not telling any truths, you have merely exaggerated and speculated queue times from a dataset you don’t have access to, or intimate knowledge of.

To re-iterate.. again.
My proposal of adding a group queue is separate from solo queue. You will still be able to continue your day/week/month/year all the same.

Have a real solo queue and a team queue for people joining in 2, 3, or 5 person teams.

Funny thing is, this existed about 6months after the game launched for a year or so (my timeline may be slightly off). Most players shifted from solo queue to group (1-5) queue, even solo players. The group queue dynamics implicitly forced teamwork and coordination to happen and were less toxic. Meanwhile, solo queue grew increasingly argumentative with a lot of “solo queue heroes” who would just try to kill other players instead of playing to win a match. So ANet just removed solo queue.

I don’t know why we need to repeat the same exercise. Just to back to a single 1-5 player queue with matchmaking weighed toward pairing teams.

That’s pure revisionist history. I remember the change, team queue was the place no one wanted to be. It was merged into solo queue because team queue wait times were stretching into untenable levels.

the reality is that the community backed solo queue. Ever since the merger, match quality has been noticeably worse.

How is playing a game with other people not a social interaction?

How does having a team queue and a solo queue exclude anyone?

In no way, shape, or form does having a random group of 5 players slapped together and 1 min to look over builds and “deal with a dynamic situation” more fun than having a team that you practice with and learn to play well with.

Except that that team “you practice with and play well with” is primarily set against solo players. That is not competition, it is exploitation. It is not fun for either side and certainly does not promote improving skills. If anything, it promotes complacency and a loss of skill.

You are more or less asking for a organized sports team to go down to the sandlot and trample whoever happens to be there.

“Us against them” is not social interaction. It is exclusion.

5v5 does have teams, yes. It is a fallacy to extend that to organized and premade teams.

The simple reality is that there are not enough people to support a team queue and a solo queue, which is why ANET merged them to begin with. Ergo, to have a team only queue, you’d have to close solo queue.

The team queue was merged into solo queue. Prior to that it was separated. I believe the main reason for doing this was that team queue had very long waits. This illustrates that team queue was not well attended.

Unfortunately, when the merge happened match quality suffered. Running on a team has a considerable advantage over PuG ing. Since that time, teams have been matched against solos and the current low population is a direct result of that.

There’s nothing inherently “team based” about PvP. That’s a myth. Team playing is a technique for gaining an advantage over solo players.

To support a team queue with the current population, you’d have to go compulsory teams like the current Automated Tournaments.

As we are seeing in the AT’s, teams are inherently exclusionary. They introduce the schoolyard politics of who gets picked for the team.

Then how to explain top players? If it was pure solo queue, would they still keep at it? It makes me wonder because for majority of players the ammount of lopsided games is sometimes keeping them at 50% win streaks while their personal skill is really good. How to understand that incredibly huge gap between win/loss of top players? that there are about 1XX wins and 4X/5X losses. If it sucks so bad, how do they do it? Are they on completely different level or are they boosted by something?

This question is somewhat convoluted but I’ll try to answer it.

These “pro” players who have exhibited exceptional climbs have pretty much fallen into one or more of these 4 categories;

Playing with a premade and/or smurfing.

Playing at odd hours to get easy matches.

Win trading.

Playing on an alt. By so doing, they come into the game very underrated and so have an easy climb.

I think it’s also important to note that in an mmo, and team based game especially; we should be providing tools for people to make friends and play together..

My friend list was booming with life when we were able to queue as five, and we had an absolute blast. Everyone I know played more when we could enjoy the game together.

Now though? We had to tell a friend last night that we couldn’t play with them because ranked 5v5 only allows solo or duo only…..

Team queue is elitist. It has been for the lifetime of “competitive seasons” primarily a tool for exploiting solos.

Those of us who have been here long enough to remember a true solo queue and a true team queue will likely recall two things;

Team queue was grossly unpopular, which is why it was merged into solo queue to begin with.

Match quality deteriorated a great deal when team was merged with solo and it has never recovered.

Team queue should go away in ranked PvP it does far more harm than good.

We had that situation long ago and it was good. ANET decided to remove solo queue. I believe this was because team queue was very long.

ANET’s solution was to set the solos against the teams. I for one, think that was a bad choice.

There’s a fundamental difference too. Skills like [Panic] work as a trap. For some GW1 Mesmer punishment skills you don’t need to hit someone in the midst of casting. You hit them prior to a cast. The enemy is punished if they act or do not act after being hexed.[Spirit Shackles] is another example that comes to mind.

If we had interrupt/trap skills like that, you’d see old style Mesmer back in GW2 and they would be fearsome.

In my opinion GW1 mesmer is much more superior to GW2 counterpart, i really miss, for example, such skills as Arcane Thievery, Confusing Images, Panic, and other.

Oh how I’d love to have a GW2 version,( a version that really worked, ) of my GW1 panic Mesmer. The carnage in this game of “fastest button pusher” would be epic.

Actually, I’d like to point out that WP opined on stream that Mirage Ambush was OP. That might well have contributed to Mirage being so heavily under tuned.

How is mirrage worse in dueling then base mesmer ?

Having played Mirage, ( I main a core PU Mesmer because I dislike the way Chrono was treated and don’t wish to play as a bruiser type, ) The core is a superior spec.

Mirage ambush is slow, makes one vulnerable to use and doesn’t do enough damage to pull it’s weight.

The mirage teleport skills, such as axe 3, have a nasty habit of landing in the wrong spot. This destroys there usefulness.

Speaking of the axe, it has negligible defensive value. This is an especially large flaw in a weapon designed to be used at “knife fight” range.

The Mirage’s power/condi attack ( ambush) is dependent on clones. Unfortunately, the axe doesn’t generate clones well and clones are super delicate. They have a very short life expectancy in PvP. So, the Mirage’s basic mechanic is tied to a resource that is nearly impossible to retain. On top of that, you lose the heal potential of shattering if you preserve the clones to power ambush.

For all these reasons and more, Core Mesmer is a much better duelist spec.

Why Ranked Games Should Allow 5 Players

As has been stated numerous times, the people who desire 5 man are an extremely vocal minority. 5 man would benefit a microscopic group of players at the expense of legit everyone else.

The only way 5 man can ever be OK is if it was 100% impossible to be matched against anything other than other 5 mans. The moment 5 man is allowed to go up against solo queue is the moment matchmaking becomes completely broken.

The people who want solo queue are a bunch of whiners who blame everyone and everything but themselves for losses.

By removing team queue, ranked has turned into a cesspool. Players have “solo queue mentality” where they run around trying to kill other players on their own and ignore teamwork and coordination and almost always try for a triple cap. And when they lose, one of those players yells at his/her teammates and blames them for the loss.

The “teams have an overwhelming advantage” line is just another fictitious excuse by the “blame everyone but myself” crowd. Unless you’re at the very top, most teams can’t coordinate past picking a decent roster of builds. And your split queue team has 1.5 minutes to communicate and swap team comp, making you on par with that team queue.

The reality is that we saw multiple seasons of 5 “man” groups farming solo’s. It finally got so extreme that ANET tried to compromise by making it duo queue.

What you’re saying is inaccurate based on what we’ve actually seen season after season, in-game.

Forced full teams also have the issue of being elitist. Right now, today, it’s very difficult to get into an AT match unless you are considered “good.” So the AT’s have become another elite inaccessible thing, not unlike raids.

What we need is SOLO queue where people are “judged” based on there personal skill and not that of there friends and enablers.
