I model regularly in mesh. At the moment I’m building the fuselage of a Bachem BA 349 “Natter” which I will fully script for use in another game world. (My personal scripting, not canned packages )
One annoying glitch in GW2 is that the cam sometimes gets in the wrong place and I can see the single sided mesh in some models. This is why you can see “out” through a wall when stuck behind it. ( An alternative explanation would be a very thick double sided mesh. ) In either case, a well proportioned double sided mesh might well help.
In addition to that.. I have been scripting for something like a decade and have dealt with this type of issue several times.
It’s best to use caution when claiming someone “doesn’t know what they are talking about.”
I’ve had similar problems with the physics engine, scripting in Second Life. The solution there was to thicken the mesh involved.
From occasional camera glitches, GW2 mesh appears to be one sided, a single plane. That makes it hard for the engine to catch collisions.
All 3d meshes are made up of single planes. There is no such thing as volume in 3d.
Incorrect. I personally make meshes in Blender which are two sided and have a space within. (In fact you can do this automatically in Blender ) It’s about giving the physics engine enough time to react.
That’s why speed is a factor.
As an example, a wall can be built with an inside face. It will be more resistant to collision glitches.
In Second Life we have a sub category of mesh called prims which are treated as solid by the physics engine. Such a thing might be available to GW2, I don’t know.

I agree that some segments of this community have shown a very strong propensity to exploit any loophole.
I can easily see a duo or larger group trading DCs on lost matches. Just off the top of my head I think that a group doing this would all ratchet to a net rating gain with little or no risk.
Not only no, but kitten no. The exploiting of new players would be rampant. The unpleasantness around the “Queensdale Train” would look like a party in comparison.
Ambush is probably already in the crosshairs to be given to one or more other classes. We’ll probably see turret engis with an ambush burst before long.
So, I don’t see it as a big factor in this discussion.
The wiki says that Ambush is exclusive to Mirage.. It also said that about Alacrity vis a vis Chronomancer.
Cool, thank you Ben. Please keep us posted.
Yup. One less customer and one less PvP player in an already shallow pool.
Pretty sure Anet could lose every PvP player and not care due to the much much larger PvE playerbase. PvP is just a side mode. This is a PvE game.
TDM and defending have both been tried, with poor results.
There are non-meta things that work. I play a vanilla PU Mesmer with some success. I think it’s partly because people have trained themselves to respond to specific builds and “rotations”.
My PU build doesn’t do what a Mesmer is “supposed to” do. No one streams it. Hence… many players don’t know how to respond.
That’s one of the dangers of having such a defined “meta.”
To be fair, don’t you play in Bronze or Silver? I suspect the success of your build has more to do with the quality of your opponents rather than the element of surprise.
To be fair.. I’ve just come from a long night of PvP and a tourney round. I defeated multiple players wearing “x legend” titles.
“I suspect that had more to do with the quality of my opponents than the element of surprise.”
Perhaps that shows the value of legendary rank? Or any rank?
What can I say? I agree.. but then.. Engi has moa now, Scourge is getting portal, rev has alacrity…Spell Breaker strongly resembles a gw1 Mesmer.
DH has essentially a thief teleport + invisibility from trapper runes. Ranger has high stealth availablilty…It can also redirect aim, as the new Mirage spec will more-or-less do.
That seems to be a long term MO of ANET to distribute things until everyone can more or less do everything. I guess the thought is that if everyone can do everything then things are balanced. The trouble with that is that is drains interest from the classes.
I fully expect Holosmith to gain Mirage ambush capability shortly after release.
I’d much rather see classes with defined roles and rigidly separate abilities.

I honestly think the Sunspear outfit is one of the better clothing skins ANET has put out.
I still run dungeons regularly. Some years back, dungeons were like fractals and raids. People were asked to ping there gear and kicks for the slightest non optimum move were common.
Fortunately, that crowd has moved to raids. I’m unwilling to deal with the hazing and extreme grind that Raids/high level fractals entail.
These days I take PUGs through places like CM, AC or TA. I can reasonably take a group that averages about 10 levels under the recommended for paths I know well.
In GW1 there are now dungeons that are near impossible. They were designed for an all human group ( no heroes or henchies,) and it’s very difficult to find a group.
I think that will happen to raids in the future. The focus on “hard” content is ill conceived in my opinion.
I’ve lost two matches tonight expressly because I couldn’t blink at the wrong moment.
This is a huge unannounced nerf to Thief and Mesmer. The nerfs are already pretty severe. Please fix this.

From what I saw in the video. There’s a second mechanic with the weird crystal thing. You conjure the crystal and that empowers using the Ambush mechanic.
I predict that there will be loud calls for Mesmer nerfs within hours of release. We’re likely to see some of the same kind of harsh dialing down that Chrono got.
That’s not because the spec will be OP. It’s because it might be deceptive enough to fool some players.
Some months down the road, any new mechanic Mirage introduces may be shared with 1 or more other classes.
I’m actually pretty depressed about this even though I’m over the moon about returning to Elona.
Stacking that much condi pressure with just dodges is broken
And so, it begins.

It is interesting that Necromancer will strongly resemble a GW1 Ritualist. The Rt/x can be a very powerful support spec in the earlier game.

I remember ( and still regularly see in GW1 ) the lovely buildings, people and clothing. Elona is a beautiful land.
The Seborhin Tree is just, well, highly impressive. That’s one of the images etched into my GW1 memories.
And yes, the music.
Oh and being a Sunspear. Somehow that’s far more compelling than say.. Legionnaire or Seraph.
Yep you’re right. It seems Scourge got portal and the last bit of unique ability has been stripped from Mesmer.
According to WP, the dodge untargets you. It’s implied that that the “Mirage Cloak” is ALSO given to your clones.
Thus, you look identical to your clones while dodging if you do not move. It seems like an attempt by ANET to make Mesmer actually confusing to other players.
I predict that Mirage will be ultra nerfed. The howling that this spec will produce is entirely predictable.
Before long, any new mechanic will be given to another class/classes. That’s why I’m not buying in advance, even though I’d dearly like to. I’ll wait and see how bloody the first couple rounds of nerfs are.
Scourge is the new Ritualist. They conjusre spirits. Thaazt being the case, maybe they got the Kurzik Summon spirit skill and / or the skill that swaps you with a spirit, from Assassin.
The Scourge looks a lot like a ritualist. That’s very interesting.
Well, Fay, we’re in agreement this time.
Yes, that’s my fear too, we’ll be instant nerf pinatas. It’s why I’m hesitant to buy the expac.
To me it looked like the Mesmer was attacking through the clones while being invis.
Having watched the video now 3 or 4 times..
It sounds like the mirage will go invis and do clone/phantasm attacks. This is probably what they were testing with the Mantle Mesmers in Lake Doric.
You hide, conjure phants and they attack. There are also hints that Mirage will use “the power of the desert” to buff the phants/clones.
If true, this might be fun after all.
Giving away portal would be to give the very last unique Mesmer skill away.
I have to admit, watching the video again, I did not see the Scourge use a portal. I saw them use AOE and a Revenant style bouncing/jump attack. I don’t see a portal.
It is absolutely reprehensible if true. Mesmer will have nothing left to call it’s own. I’ll be playing the beta…
Still I find myself not wanting to buy the expac to support another downgrade of Mesmer.
Some of the things are natural and appropriate. The Deadeye specialization, ( despite it’s “wild west” vibe, ) has been a long time coming. Weaver and Soul Beast are also natural and appropriate seeming evolutions.
More homogenization. Mesmer’s last unique talent, portal, apparently given to Necromancer. I’m not holding out much hope for Mirage at the moment.
OMFG, please ANET, don’t trash Elona. I sincerely hope it’s grand. To see that legacy go bad would be… heartbreaking.
Please do a good job on Elona, ANET.
Removing the CS effect on elites would further invalidate Chronomancer.
Moa has already been nerfed to the point it’s seldom used and given to Engineer.
Alacrity, ( the primary application of Chronomancy, ) was given to Revenant.
Portal is no longer the sole domain of Mesmer.
In short Mesmer no longer “owns” a single thing that is uniquely Mesmer.
The fact that some are unable to play effectively against Mesmer is not a reason to hit the class yet again.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
It is unknown. We “destroyed” Abaddon at the conclusion of Nightfall. Then again, we “killed” Shiro earlier in the story, only to see him return twice.
I personally expect to learn that Abbadon is back or attempting to be back.
Well, the way i look at it is…..in order to get good its best to fight against good.
A game, by definition should be fun. Regardless of rhetoric, when a person gets pounded repeatedly they will tend to either leave or get bitter and angry.
Witness the current conditions in PvP.
To answer the OP’s question: There are too few people playing,. So the game has no choice but to match new players against strong players.. I think that the game should distribute experienced and new players on each team. This doesn’t seem to be happening.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
Btw, we defeated Shiro and his lich buddy at the Margonite temple in The Realm of Torment.
Then again, we defeated him multiple times in Cantha too. It was never clear what happened to him.
Yes, I’m aware of the various arguments against it, including story continuity. I recently finished Nightfall. ( I went from gw2 to gw1 after seeing someone wearing a fiery dragon sword and asking them about it. )
Still, Lazarus returned after having been destroyed. My suspicion is that The Elder Dragons are Abaddon’s horcruxes. He is/was the God of Secrets and Lies. ( and magic more generally.) It would be a surprise if he did not have some weird backup plan.
Perhaps someone read The Apocrypha again. Or, we woke him by messing with the dragons.
If Abaddon were not returning there’d be little reason to create a glider or to bring him so much to the attention of players. That’s a bit too much to be a proper misdirect.
Also, the final vision of Balthazar in the Eye of Janthir is strongly reminiscent of EoTN visions. A sign that gw1 influences are returning to the story. Let’s not forget Livia.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
And this sort of thing may have been a big reason ANET didn’t want to open this can of worms.
They are smart to act only when the evidence is crystal clear.
Yes, I and many others killed him, ( in both hard and normal modes. )
My guess is that it’s a similar notion to the way Lazarus returned…
The elder dragons are Abaddon’s horcruxes maybe.
Abaddon’s Glider is in the gem store;
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Abaddon%27s_Glider
I wonder if Shiro will return too?
Of course complaining about a moderator on the forum will get you infracted…
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain
Or just die a villain
We have died as villains boys. May the bush-league’rs forever prosper.
First, you are / were an amazing thief.
Second, you forgot that the “bush leaguers” are the ones that support this game. Most of them also play without cheating.
Awesome thanks for that. I’m on the road this Sunday, but looking forward to next week.
Well done. Keep up the good work.
That was a nice attempt on the preemptive argument. I have 100% map completion, multiple times. It’s really not that hard and I’d be annoyed if someone were allowed to simply buy the achievement.
The backpack is still obtainable.
Range a burn guard. There defense sucks.
Today in Caudecus’ Manor I spotted a new quasi boss.
This boss was fleshy, unlike Margonites. She had a helmet and facial features very similar to that of Abaddon’s minions.
I stand by my assertion from last week: Abaddon is back or trying to be back. I wonder if Shiro will make an appearance?
.
I was one of a pair of Mesmers helping a 3rd player up. I don’t find JP’s fun at all. That particular one might reasonably be called “painfull.”
My fear is that my beloved Mesmer class will be subjected to a long series of nerfs again. Worse, our specialization may be given to some other class.
Mesmer no longer “owns” any particular skill in GW2. Engineers use Moa and Revenants are granting Alacrity.
I don’t know if I can easily deal with another cycle of being excited about a new spec, then seeing it crushed.
I finished this JP as part of a team of 3 ( two Mesmers trading rescue ports ) after several hours. This is definitely not a task I’d like to try again.
It was more than a little ridiculous. To make it part of a legendary collection is, frankly, a bit mean in my opinion.
