Better to just buy them off the trading post. It was better for money when ectos were at 40s, but it can probably still make you some money, although it might not be any better than just farming cof as far as time investment.
Endless Petrification Tonic
When is it going to be changed? These items, excluding possibly Eternity, are literally the hardest items to obtain in game, which is obscene. They have a droprate of something like 1/1000 from BLCs (see http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Chest/Drop_rate), and at about 2g a pop for a key, that is almost 2000g on average to get ONE RANDOM endless mystery tonic. There are THREE possible (furniture, tree, creature), and I want one of them in particular, so I’m basically screwed. Throw in the fact that gem prices continue to rise, and you have a nearly unobtainable item.
I have personally opened 700 blcs and only got one of the three varieties (tree version)… and that was before the December update to blcs, which appears to have made the droprate even worse: regular mystery tonics only drop rarely now, and I believe that endless tonics are triggered to drop only a small percentage of the time that regular ones do.
Either make these non-account bound so I can buy them on the trading post, make the drop rate bearable (like 1/50), or create other ways to obtain them (mystic forge, or laurel vendor). Please, for my sanity…

It’s because that stuff is trash that everyone makes boatloads of while leveling crafting. Tons of people use crafting as a way to turn gold into experience/levels, and couldn’t care less about the byproducts. There is nowhere near enough demand to outpace the massive supply… and most people never use food before level 80 since it takes so little time to get there.
Endless Petrification Tonic
The premise for them spiking was flawed, so it’s no doubt they tanked again. They were speculated on because the clothes vendor was going away, but that method of buying skins was far more expensive than buying them straight off the tp anyways, so it going away should have no impact on general supply/demand. They’ll still rise slowly over time after this however (although they could fall a bit more before then).
Endless Petrification Tonic
I suppose this means that their update didn’t have the desired effect, or at least not yet. Although I was map completing plains of ashford the other day and there WERE a lot of people, so the living world stuff is at least bringing people to the affected maps. Sadly I think the world is just way too big to be densely populated. The only thing I could see changing that is map specific rewards (besides completion stuff), but that could get grindy if you’re a collector.
Go to “Queensdale”, Type “Champ Troll up” in map chat, then stand back, and watch the horde show up.
Newbie zones are usually an exception to the rule. Those are almost always filled with a solid amount of people simply because it’s where you start. When people start diffusing from there it gets really sparse really fast.

They may be rarer, but this is a speculative run right now… a huge buyout of 20000 bones in the beginning by a few wealthy (relatively speaking) players made everyone else panic and start buying them out too. They’ll start flooding back in soon, but the price will still be higher than it was before.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Very annoying bug limiting the usefulness of this elite considerably: A very large percentage of the time when in combat, and you use Conjure Fiery Greatsword, it will not summon in your hands. Only the second copy will spawn on the ground. This means you can’t summon it into a group of enemies for the burning effect, you have to waste time picking it up, you get 10 less charges, and there is no extra for an ally.

I’m fine with most of the dailies, except for veteran slayer… anybody have suggestions on where to find large amounts of veterans in one place? Even though I am going for world completion right now I run into surprisingly few of these.
Endless Petrification Tonic
So more options = bad? Ok…
But seriously, how can you not see this as a buff? You can now immobilize WITHOUT jumping, or get a finisher when you choose to jump. The animation also seems less prone to getting stuck and ccing yourself.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Funny story time – CoF path 1 group consisted of all wars and myself as an ele…they died several times to something that shouldn’t have killed them (last boss) so i was stuck soloing it. . ..ok next path i died once and got kicked for dying……..
I am an ele main, so don’t take this the wrong way, but they died because berserker warriors rely on massive dps for survival in cof path 1. Without a mesmer/another warrior, you didn’t have enough dps to kill the boss before he killed them. It is not because they are bad…in fact even with lower dps the fastest strategy is still not to move and just throw rocks if you are downed, since the boss will almost always die and rally you. With a properly outfitted war/mes group, nobody will ever die because you are blazing through everything in seconds.
And I am almost certain you were kicked for low dps and not for dying… it’s not your fault though, since eles have terrible dps compared to wars in PvE, where nothing bothers to dodge 100b.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Well, I think a far more significant amount of gold is created from dungeons, but yeah, there will be some inflation. The real item I’m worried about is the one that costs 1 laurel and gives 30% more gold from monster kills for an hour (assuming this applies to dungeon bosses like omnom bar). Especially because if I want the endless tonic or ascended amulet I’ll have to forgo it while others take advantage of it (an unfair decision in my opinion).
Endless Petrification Tonic
People always seem to over-complicate things when realistically, doing it the right way is far more efficient.
Eh, I agree for daily dodger, but it seems improbable for me to rez 10 allies in a standard play session without going out of my way (especially since they have to be dead and not just downed… seriously, once somebody is dead they usually just wp).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Or just go to a heart where npcs get obliterated by comparatively overpowered enemies, and revive them way faster then you can jump off a cliff 10 times. I have my spot… not giving it away as I don’t want it to get flooded, but there are many throughout the world.
Endless Petrification Tonic
You know, I figured he was up to something when he posted that comment about buying more char slots. I was pretty close to buying up a ton of oric… that seems to be the best description for my tp activities… pretty close. Like how I came close to quadrupling my gold by buying princess wands or platinum doubloons… but failing by only investing 50g or so. Then getting greedy and investing everything in something else and watching it tank >.>
Endless Petrification Tonic
The question is: buy now or in a few days? I’m never good at answering this question…
Endless Petrification Tonic
And as an endless tonic collector… 100 days of play just to get the endless cat tonic. Seriously Anet? Why must you torture us? I’ve already given up on collecting all 3 of the endless mystery tonics since they have about a .1% drop rate (no lie) from blcs. It’s easier to get legendaries than these kittening tonics.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Well if they do it must be ultra-rare, since precursor prices haven’t moved as far as I can tell (if anything, a few have gone up such as energizer, due to the new legendary effects)
Endless Petrification Tonic
Spent 900k karma + karma i got back
9x new minipet
Around 20 lodestones
1600+ unid objects
warm potion
charged potion
around 100 obby shard.
Are those the unlimited use wam and charged potions?
Endless Petrification Tonic
Well I got the mini on my second box and a corrupted lodestone out of one of the next 10 or so. The mini is actually surprisingly cool, but I probably won’t be buying any more… karma is harder to replenish than gold once you’ve wasted it.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Don’t worry it screwed me too. Thankfully I sold all my armored scales yesterday at 10s+, and I dumped all my claws at the 9s+ buy orders today after the patch. Fangs sunk too low too fast so now I’m just waiting for them to rebound somewhat.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yep still bugged for me too. Can’t sell either of mine.
Also, any plans to make endless mystery tonics sellable too soon?
Endless Petrification Tonic
I felt the same way when my only class was an ele… always getting kicked from CoF parties before the run even started. But then I bit the bullet and crafted up a war… believe me when I say, elitism is by far the best way to get fast, and more importantly, a high quantity of consecutive runs. When you make the restriction on class/experience level, you have a MUCH higher probability of grouping with similar people who can run very fast and are interested in farming for a long time. Is it possible to find a non warrior/mes group that can get sub 7 minute runs? Yes. But the probability of finding a non-nooby group without this composition is very low. This is because many of the most dedicated CoF farmers bit the bullet like me and leveled a warrior or mes alt.
However, I would put my money on warrior/mes being the best statistical group for the path. That is what started the migration in the first place.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Wow as soon as I logged off it seems our garrison got taken… maybe I was having a bigger effect than I thought, heh. Good fight while it lasted though… and my thanks to all the folks who were kind enough to stand in my churning earth all the time.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Heh, I feel dumb. Guess I should have looked up “rock” first. Just assumed it would have some convoluted name like everything else… ash legion rock of stunning or some crap.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I figured it was a PvE item, but which one is it and where can you buy it?
Endless Petrification Tonic
I encountered a player in WvW who was throwing rocks (or something) that did hefty damage and stunned from quite a distance. I know it wasn’t a class skill because they were a D/D ele like me. Has anybody encountered this and know what it was they were using ? I assume it’s some type of one use item you can buy.
Endless Petrification Tonic
The last poi/vista I need in any wvw map is the north keep in eternal battlegrounds, and my server (Crystal Desert) can never seem to take it. Since Dragonbrand (the server that holds it right now) is always full, does anybody know a different, less full server that holds it that I can transfer to before free transfers are over?
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yeah, I predict they will rise again though once the early sellers get out. Same thing happened after the last bot-banning. Probably should have sold some at the peak and rebought, since I saw this coming, but I’m a bit too cautious to sell off my investments with no guarantee of regaining them.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I agree, since no matter how strong my ele is in pvp, for what I really care about (pve/dungeons), she is subpar. A nerf of AoE will destroy her already pitiful dps.
Although warrior greatsword is AoE too. Too bad that’s my only other character (and I rolled it specifically for dungeons). Seems thief and mes will be the reigning champions of PvE soon.
Endless Petrification Tonic
It doesn’t take too long to get enough experience honestly for most dungeons. Just find a couple noob groups from gw2lfg until you feel confident enough to join the experienced groups. It’ll take a day max to find enough groups to become “experienced”, and from there it’s smooth sailing. It’s not like finding a job or anything…
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
Might have hit the jackpot this time… I missed profiting off the last bot-banning so hopefully I’ll make bank this time.
Endless Petrification Tonic
D/D is AoE too… but the thing is, its damage is significantly lower on a single target compared to thief single target skills (which people complain about all the time). I’ve never even heard complaints about aoe until now…
Endless Petrification Tonic
The quote “we don’t want you to use AoE skills on single target mobs” is utterly ridiculous. Eles don’t have a choice! If you didn’t want that you shouldn’t have designed a class with 95% aoe!
Endless Petrification Tonic
I play an ele main and nerfing aoe will absolutely destroy us. We have virtually no single target skills worth a kitten It would be ok if we had single target options, but we don’t. We are already weak enough in PvE (terrible dps), so if they apply this to PvE we will be utterly screwed.
Seriously, the problem with ele is too much healing/mobility/cc, NOT AoE. I want more damage and less of the former, not nerfing our pitiful damage even further.
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
PvE elementalist is a joke, at least in simple dungeons. For a while I only had ele, and was sick of getting kicked from speedrun groups before they even began, or getting stuck in terrible noob groups. I crafted up a warrior and it is amazing how fast bosses melt, and how much easier it is to get in good groups. Seriously, it is op as hell in PvE that warriors can stack so much crit and power without too many survivability issues while getting a stack or 2 of might PER crit (while mobs don’t dodge ANY of your 100b).
Too bad I’m not a big fan of PvP in this game, because ele is one of the if not the best profession for it. Whenever I go into WvW or sPvP I just demolish, but WvW is boring as hell and pretty much pointless and sPvP is way too segregated to be enjoyable.
Endless Petrification Tonic
When running CoF path 1, I consistently encounter a bug where I cannot (by hotkey) swap weapons before the final boss. I switch to sword and warhorn for speed in getting to the boss, but when I want to switch back to greatsword I can’t unless I click the swap symbol in the hero screen. There may be other occasions, but this is the place where I can consistently replicate it (and I think it may have to do with the cutscene that plays before the boss, which I skip).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Once they fix the bug, prices will tank since everyone and their mom who has one of the bugged tonics (I have 2) will want to sell. Most you’ll make is probably 50g, unless you get in REALLY early.
While we’re on the subject though, I’ll just add a shameless plug: make the endless MYSTERY tonics non-account bound too. It is way to kitten hard to get these (700 blcs and only one to show for it).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Why would they even put it in the keys in Lynn’s shop if they were never “intended” to be bought for less than black lion store cost? You can already buy bl keys for gold by converting them to gems, so if they cost the same or more in Lynn’s shop they might as well not even be there. Of course maybe Anet didn’t think things through fully and made them cheaper than they would have liked (explaining their removal), but that is their fault, and hardly makes it an exploit. Is it illegal to buy something in a store just because the store foolishly priced the item below market value? This exploit talk is getting out of hand…
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
You forgot a C. There was mithril in the recipe, which adjusted in price to make the recipe unprofitable.
Now that I think about it there was a D too: black lion salvage kits.
Endless Petrification Tonic
The definition of an exploit is very clear. Abusing a feature to earn somesort of an advantage. If some players during all the game life, have only made 100g, and within 2 days, made 400g, wouldn’t you think that something was fishy here?
I remember one player that said that he had made 500+ gold till he get bored. Honestly don’t know the average gold gain per player trough this abuse, but they probably have quantified it and ruled a ban for the perpetrators. !
If somebody made 500g with this (which I sincerely doubt), I say good for him! He made the most of a limited time opportunity before the market had time to react. That is called being ahead of the curve, or in other words, smart. Even without intervention the markets were catching up to make the opportunity unprofitable. How is this any different than buying something low before the market reacts and prices rise? I see no exploit.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ok, the ignorance in this thread is starting to make me woozy. This WAS NOT AN EXPLOIT! I will not explain why again, just look at my previous posts. And even if it was, there is something called appropriate punishment. Zero-tolerance makes no sense in any circumstances… or I suppose you all think people should be given the death penalty for stealing a loaf of bread?
And before you accuse me of being kitten for being banned, I was not banned. I am just trying to fight for the people who were.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ectoplasms price may only have been reduced by 4s, but that’s not the problem. Players that got tons of gold could influenciate other market trends. Let’s assume, that 30% of that exploiting players went to buy dusk. Dusk price surely would rice a lot more than 4s, and created a bigger baseline to Dusk price, making even more far to buy for the general population. Suplly Demand.
This was a simple offer/demand exercise that shows that one thing can be linked to another, but that’s not the point, isn’t it?
Players did NOT get tons of gold from this, and certainly not more than you can get by playing the tp normally. Furthermore the gold ALL CAME FROM OTHER PLAYERS buying ectoplasms. There was no gold actually created, and no inflation. And you have no idea what you are talking about if you think precursors were influenced by people making 25g off of this piddly opportunity.
Or did it suddenly become illegal to introduce new items into the market place? Better not kill that moa, he might drop a slab of poultry that wasn’t in the game before! Get real. This “exploit” was completely harmless.
Yet, still an exploit! Even if it was an exploit that gave 1 copper / year it deserves a Perma BAN. EULA clearly states (for the ones that care to read it):
You acknowledge that You may not, without signed written consent from a legally authorized representative of NCsoft, do any of the following: … (d) Use, or provide others with, any “hack,” “cheat,” “exploit” or “mod”;Well done Anet… +9000!!!
Note I put “exploit” in quotations. As in, it’s not an exploit? Your EULA quote certainly shows that exploits aren’t allowed, but what defines this as an exploit? New ectoplasms being created? They’re created every day whenever somebody finds a yellow! A small capped surge in supply like this doesn’t strike me as exploitative in the least.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Get real. This “exploit” was completely harmless.
I’m having a great time laughing at the face of the exploiters who have been caught and are now making up excuses to go with it. Currently the top excuses seems to be:
- “It wasn’t anything wrong!” Because of course making an almost infinite ecto-producing loop was intended!
Here is where you and all the “pro-banners” are dead wrong: this was not some magical feedback loop where you could create infinite ectos from 1. The “exploit” relied on buying mithril and snowflakes, which rose steadily in price to equilibrium as people found out about the recipe. This put a HARD CAP on the potential amount of ectos created since there would be NO PROFIT eventually and people would stop crafting/salvaging. There was absolutely NO danger of ectos plummeting to 50c or whatever as you people seem to think. Factor in the time cost of crafting and this was ridiculously innocent.
And for the record, I did not perform this “exploit” and was not banned, as you seem to think.
Endless Petrification Tonic
No, it was an exploit because it was incredibly obvious that using an almost infinite loop to craft a huge amount of ectos was exploiting the game. That some of the later exploites failed to make a huge fortune (and instead made 2-3g) only makes it ironic, not any less wrong.
IMO, “clueless” is cheating and then trying to claim it wasn’t anything wrong. The bans were deserved and perfectly justified; I hope ArenaNet won’t go back on them this time.
Tell me, what has this “huge” influx of ectoplasms done to harm the economy or the game. Oh noes, ectoplasms got 4s cheaper, the game will surely collapse! If anything it provided well needed relief for a sorely undersupplied item.
Or did it suddenly become illegal to introduce new items into the market place? Better not kill that moa, he might drop a slab of poultry that wasn’t in the game before! Get real. This “exploit” was completely harmless.
Endless Petrification Tonic
What You fail to realize is that he probably spent 60 ectos getting those 90, and 30 ectos is less than 10g profit. That’s NOTHING.
That’s someone abusing an exploit for nothing. Which is ironic, and makes the ban even sweeter.
You are truly clueless. It was defined as an exploit because people were supposedly getting rich off of it. If it doesn’t even make much money, then there was no exploit in the first place! Learn a thing or two about empathy, or karma’s gonna come back to get you sooner rather than later…
Endless Petrification Tonic
Outrageous folks are being banned for this. I saw the thread about this “exploit” in the forums, looked at the profit margins, and decided it wasn’t even worth my time. And people are being banned for it? I doubt many people made more than a piddly 25g for many hours of boring crafting (not to mention using black lion salvage kits, which are far from cheap).
And it was NOT obvious it was an exploit. Profit margins depended on snowflake and mithril ore pricing, which quickly corrected to make it much less profitable. You could have made more money buying snowflakes low and selling them when they skyrocketed, but I don’t think anybody got banned for that.
