Endless Petrification Tonic
Endless Petrification Tonic
It is actually VERY dumb that there are no npc barbers. This may actually be the first MMO I’ve ever played that doesn’t have such a basic function. The money milking is getting a bit out of hand imo.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Eh I’m thinking they’ll go down again. There was a mad rush, but there are a lot of poor people who might find this in their first box and decide to sell it because they never would want to change their hair, and the gold can basically cover all their basic gameplay needs for a long time.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Word of advice: buy the mats now (if you need them) while they’re still cheap. The prices are going up now.
Yep, I anticipated that, which is why I bought a ton of them before I made this post
So I was right, you sly dog. You must have made a fortune. I made some decent money just buying them on the way up, but you could have made 1000g easy.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Heh, wow, could have made so much bank here. Buy 100g worth at 10 copper and make 1000g. Ah well, I’ll still make about 20g and I’ve got my endless princess tonic so I’m happy.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Damn I’m dumb I should’ve bought stuffing and glue while they were rising fast from 10 copper. Bought a bunch in the 30 to 40 range now though.
Endless Petrification Tonic
It seems like a pretty safe bet what it’ll be… I wouldn’t risk it til I see someone else does it though since it might not be 100% chance.
Endless Petrification Tonic
lol price of the normal princess tonics just tanked, lol. Guess lots of people are doing this right now.
Wow glue and stuffing are skyrocketing too now. I’m starting to suspect this post was for making money (invest in stuffing/glue, post, profit). Nonetheless I thank you.
They are account bound btw.

I thought it was kind of dark turning the Skritt into toys. Although it could just be temporary like the tonics (or if not maybe we should stop drinking the tonics less we suffer a similar fate, heh).
Also, his face on the loading screen DOES look genuinely evil. You could be onto something.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Wow this is legit! Although now I can’t get the mini without spending gems… small price to pay though. Thanks for the heads up! Lovin my new Endless Princess Tonic even more than the toymaker one since it’s usually the one I want to transform into.
Oh yeah, took me 6 or 7 tries so don’t give up.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I’m actually surprised this stuff is kept track of in the database. Good job on that!
Endless Petrification Tonic
If you wanted to make real money salvaging for ectos you should have invested in a different snowflake… the boat’s already sailed on that one though (made about 70g-80g in a day though when the getting was good)
Endless Petrification Tonic
These items are way too easy to market manipulate. I was actually going to buy one but was 20g short. Can kiss that goodbye.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ok, first off let me get a few things out of the way: yes I realize that there is another thread specifically about outrage over account bound minis from rng boxes. This thread is generalized to account bound RNG items in general. I feel with the recent outrage over the minis it is a timely point to shed light on something of an even worse magnitude that has been haunting me for the past four months.
I am an endless tonic collector. There aren’t many but I want to collect them all. I have 3 unique ones: Halloween, Toymaker, and one Mystery Tonic (the tree variety). The first two weren’t bad at all (comparatively). I actually got two Endless Halloween tonics after opening over 5000 trick or treat bags (personalized and non) during the Halloween event. The Toymaker one I just bought from the tp for 30 gold. Very reasonable in my opinion.
However, I can not say anything is reasonable about what I had to go through to get the endless mystery tonic, and what I will have to go through to collect the other two. I opened over 500, yes, 500 black lion chests in order to get that one tonic. That is equivalent to 45000 gems! At the going rate of approximately 2 gold per key, that is about 1000 gold. In terms of real money the gems would have run me $562.50! I do not think that is at ALL reasonable. Granted I got about 100 with council commendations, and the others before gems reached one gold, so I probably only spent a MEASLY (sarcasm) 400 gold.
However there are still two that I haven’t collected. Even assuming a best case scenario where I don’t get any duplicates, am I expected to buy 1000 more keys, spending either 2000 gold or $1000 in the process (since keys are probably being removed from captain’s council store)? That strikes me as utter insanity and completely unfair to collectors like me.
Here is the painful part. Slowly, many things that are super difficult to get and RNG based are becoming tradeable (like permanent trader, permanent bank, and even the other endless tonics), yet the endless mystery tonics remain account bound (along with the new minis)!
If you can feel my pain, or just agree that the account bound RNG items need to be FAR less expensive to get or should all be made available on the trading post, please post your thoughts here. Thanks.
TLDR: Must spend over 3000 gold or over $1500 to collect all endless mystery tonics. Account Bound RNG-based items should be made available on trading post or made far less rare/expensive

Wow, this sounds op as hell against condition builds (who are struggling enough as it is). Good think I don’t play WvW (and they better not put it in sPvP).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Does it really only drop from the wintersday boxes? It really seems like a blc kind of item (or does it drop from both?)
Endless Petrification Tonic
While this one is WAY easier than clock tower (10 mins vs 10 hours for me, although I was playing on a crap computer for clock tower), I feel it is fair and was still satisfying to complete. Not everyone wants to spend 10 hours on one holiday event, especially when there is so much else to do.
Edit: Although I can’t fathom why they kept the draconian wait system in. Surely you don’t have to wait for EVERYONE to finish or die before starting a new run. It’s not like having a huge group makes the puzzle a better experience anyways (I find it to be the opposite case).

This actually made me laugh out loud. I can just imagine a group of noobs unsuspectingly opening up this mysterious present after just starting the game, and all of a sudden getting murdered by a bunch of killer princess dolls. “Welcome to Guild Wars 2 everybody!” That said it should probably be changed…
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yeah I’m not a fan. I was raring to get a new costume (got both from Halloween), but this one is neither awesome looking nor attractive, so there is absolutely no incentive for me (it would actually be a detriment to buy it since it would just waste my bank slots).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Same thing as endless tonics from blc’s it seems. Seems like they can’t get normal players to buy anything so they are trying to bleed us collectors out of everything we’ve got with this account bound rng crap.
Seriously, do you know how many blcs I’ve opened over the course of this game? Over 400. And I have ONE endless mystery tonic to show for it. To collect them all they must expect me to open almost 2000 chests (since no doubt even if I get 3 some will be duplicates). At least I didn’t spend real money on the sham. I’m starting to sound like a broken record I’ve posted so much about this, but it really is ruining my enjoyment of the game. I just want to get them and move on to other goals, but it seems that will never happen.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Hard wood logs already peaked due to wintersday speculation. If you bought them at 7c you could have made some ok profit, but now it’s pointless.
Endless Petrification Tonic
That’s definitely the reason, and it sucks because now I’ll never be able to buy a sufficient quantity of black lion keys to collect the EL tonics (since buying with gems is insanely expensive now). And unfortunately the update made it really easy to get commendations but now there is nothing to do with them.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yeah, I hoarded 220 black lion keys over the past few month for the express purpose of getting endless mystery tonics. However, I decided to wait until today to open them now just in case wintersday skins might show up now in them. Apparently that was a mistake, since I opened 100 chests and not only did I get no EL tonic, now I’m lucky if I even get the regular mystery tonics in a chest, which makes me think the droprate for endless may be even more abysmal now (which is truly hard to fathom). Before I open the rest, could I get some input on whether endless tonic droprates were decreased unintentionally with this overhaul?
And also… WHY are endless mystery tonics still untradeable when you’ve made the personal merchant contracts and such tradeable (not to mention Halloween and toymaker endless tonics)

They really need to learn to refrain from giving specific launch days for these events that they know they can barely meet. Same thing happened with Halloween: say it launches on a certain day, but they wait until nearly midnight PST to actually launch. Most players would probably be much happier if they would just say the launch day is one day later and launch nice and early on that day, rather than running around like chickens with their heads cut off on Friday night trying to get it up before the deadline (which they only actually meet in one time zone, making them “on time” only by technicality).
Reminds me of slackers in school waiting until the last minute to do a project and pulling an all-nighter to try and get it done, and ending up turning it in 5 minutes before class ends. Very unprofessional.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I hope they don’t do that consortium crap again. Put the items in blcs so I can get a chance at everlasting tonics while getting skins.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I have 2 (pre-patch) endless tonics and they don’t stack.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I would think it’s not fotm since everything that drops there has been going up in price since it first came out (since obviously less people are running it now that the novelty wore off).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ok, I get it guys, there was fair warning but I never saw it. Thanks for the salt in the wound.
Endless Petrification Tonic
From the general thread it sounds like they are just giving a chest to everyone. Which is probably the best move at this point since I highly doubt they could accurately tell who “deserved” it or not, and that would just lead to a new firestorm of complaints as there would surely be some people getting extra rewards while others still got nothing.
The chest originally did drop level-scaled loot down to 65, so to be cautious I would definitely recommend opening this on your 80 or highest character if you can’t wait.
Nope I got nothing.
Edit: I take it back my mail was full. Now I have 32 exotic armors instead of just 30. Yay?
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
Just great. I didn’t participate in the event AND had a bunch of buy orders on exotics to flip, which have now tanked in value thanks to this unforseeable turn of events. Now I’m sitting on 30 exotic armors that I paid way too much for. Thanks a lot.
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
I’ve been getting them almost every daily for the past couple days, for what it’s worth.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Anet’s never gonna take us seriously if we complain about every little thing like this…
Endless Petrification Tonic
I agree. I have 2 everlasting halloween tonics and I’m just waiting for the opportunity to sell one. I would love even more being able to buy the other everlasting tonics since they are almost impossible to collect with the insane price of gems. It was bad enough when gems were at 50s since I needed to open 300 chests just to get ONE.
Also, strange you mention your EL tonics being soul bound since mine (the tree variety) is account bound. But as noted I think it’s draconian that they are bound at all.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yes it’s pretty depressing. Basically the only real input I see in any thread from any team member is from John Smith over in the trading post forums. And even that is getting rarer. Their pr is going out the window at this point.
Endless Petrification Tonic
What I don’t understand is why in god’s name they are deciding to tie in ectos to EVERYTHING high end. That is just a recipe for disaster. Every time they release a new item requiring ectos (and 250 stacks no less) supply tanks and the price for everything requiring them goes up massively. Add in the fact that it’s not really possible to adjust ecto supply like it might be for orichalcum (just mine more), and you’ve got a problem. Why can’t they just make gear recipes more unique, so that their prices don’t all hinge on some ultra-rare bottleneck ingredient?
As more ascended items are added, crafted exotics will be completely out of the picture just because it will become so infeasible to get them compared to dropped exotics or karma gear.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I thought of getting a gaming mouse when I first started playing, but once I got used to my scheme I found it completely unnecessary. On my elementalist I use:
-wasd for moving and strafing (change a and d to strafe instead of turning)
-space for dodge
-left alt for jump
-12345 for weapon skills
-qer for skills and t for elite
-middle mouse button for heal skill
-zxcv for attunements/class skills if not elementalist (most important part of my setup imo)
-mouse right click obviously for turning camera
Endless Petrification Tonic
Eh, not worth it. First off they’re so low cost already that even if they skyrocketed you’d have to have hoarded a ton to make a reasonable profit. But they are not likely to skyrocket anytime soon, since there is such a gigantic supply to work through, and it just doesn’t seem like a good Anet would make a priority of altering.
You’d essentially just be wasting your pickup tab for eons for a low-risk, low potential reward item.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Worst thing is the WvW requirement that is there EVERY month. Now don’t get me wrong, I love spvp, but WvW is like pulling teeth trying to find people to kill.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Pretty simple question but I can’t find a definitive answer. Is diminishing returns for loot when farming dynamic events account wide or character bound?
On a related note, does anybody know the definitive way to get rid of DR? In my experience it seems I have to actually kill enemies in another area (such as FotM) in order to get a full reset, and that If I don’t do this DR actually carries over (at least in part) from play session to play session.
Endless Petrification Tonic
There are new 20 slot bags available for fractal relics in FotM, so demand is way down for 20 slot bags.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ah thanks. And that’s why omnomberries are through the roof now… I need to read these patch notes more carefully from now on…
Endless Petrification Tonic
I’ve seen somebody say they found out about the chocolate bar nerf through patch notes, and I’m just wondering if this is true. If I had seen this note myself I probably would have invested some. I’ve been keeping up with game announcements on the forums and never noticed anything like this (and still can’t find any mention). So my question is: is there some other place where this change was noted that I am not aware of, or did people just find out through experimentation?
Endless Petrification Tonic
You can still salvage them. I got 3 ectos from the last one I salvaged, which while not as good as the price of an exotic, is better than wasting a bank slot.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Greatswords for everybody.
Seriously. If they’re going to continue to focus so much more on the aesthetics of greatswords than all other weapons, every class should be able to experience them.
Endless Petrification Tonic
You can run. Moas I think are slightly faster and their whole team will have to focus you down to kill you (in which case you’d already be dead). The real benefit of moa morph is that it takes a member out of a team fight for 10 seconds. However the cooldown is so high that it ends up being not too great. Still way better than crap Ele ults though.
I will agree it’s just not a well designed skill however. It has ruined the fun of many a fight for me by providing a convenient reset button for mesmers (not too different from thief stealth in that respect).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yeah I have to wonder if the game is going to keep any new players at this point… it’s not a good thing when you start an mmo and find the starting zone (or at the very least the following zones) almost completely void of any other players. Dynamic events only serve to make the world feel emptier with all the ones that stay forever unfinished due to lack of players.
Endless Petrification Tonic
EVE is a sandbox type MMO and GW2 is a theme park type mmo. Unfortunately it is near impossible for a theme park mmo to have an economy as dynamic and realistic as a sandbox one, but imo the trade-off is worth it that theme park mmos tend to be a lot more fun and less like work (and you don’t have to make up your own goals to have a good time).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Iron dye is a good black and only costs like 10s on tp. Or you could try pitch dye for slightly more (not sure if it is darker or lighter. Either should suit your needs really). Black dye is the second darkest black dye but it is pretty expensive (not compared to abyss though).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ah sorry then. I know a lot of people were complaining about it in general discussion. Sorry for grouping you with them unfairly!
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yes, it seems we are on the same page now. Your utility example I also believe is intentionally misleading. However it’s not quite as bad since it is something you have to pay whether you like it or not, so the “false advertising” can’t force you into paying for something you wouldn’t otherwise.
Anyways, I agree this kind of deceptive marketing happens a lot in general, but I think it’s a sad state of affairs and not something that should be accepted without blinking an eye just because it’s the new status quo. I guess I just hope that Arenanet doesn’t continue to go down the unfortunate path of all these other companies, since there is something to be said about principled companies in this day and age.
