Man, I guess it’s true. Can’t compete with that dps when mobs just stand and take 100b so easily. Really badly designed move imo, and way too op against the dumb ai in this game. I really hope anet gives eles better dps at some point… rolling with the lowest hp and armor class, I expected the best dps to compensate. But then I find out our only viable build is essentially a tank (bunker build).
Unfortunately the worst problem can’t really be solved, and that is crappy eles giving my class a bad name. Guess I’ll have to roll a warrior even though they’re so kitten boring… sigh

I’ve been trying to make some money speed running CoF path 1, and find it’s quite efficient. However, there is one speed bump that I encounter when trying to find a group on gw2lfg: people only accepting warriors, and to a lesser degree thiefs/mesmers, for speedrun groups. As an ele it makes me rather angry, since I can give everybody 19 stacks of might every 20 seconds or so while doing significant condition damage. Surely this is better than running 4 warriors and a mesmer? Or is the dps really so skewed in favor of warriors that no other group comp compares?
Unfortunately it seems many of the most hardcore farming groups have adopted this policy, so it is significantly harder for me to find an experienced group…

I agree it could be a BIT longer, but it’s better than the tents for me. One of the other few leggings I like are the vigil light leggings. Nice balance of covering and revealing.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I only do it for monthly. The reason?
1. No feeling of progression… when you win you don’t even know it.
2. Running 15 mins across the map just to reach a battle (if there is one)
3. When in a big battle your individual input is negligible and it just feels like I’m mindlessly laying down AoEs…
4. Lacking in one on one battles, since someone will always come to help. At least sPvP I get a good duel somewhat regularly.
There are more but those are the biggies for me.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yeah, it does kind of ruin the look, agreed. For some reason they REALLY went overboard with covering your butt with the skirts in this game. The front of many light armor leggings look great, but then you get a tent in the back. And since you are looking at the back of your character 99.9% of the time, there really is no point in wearing them. Ironically the newbie skirt is one of the only ones they didn’t screw up.
Endless Petrification Tonic
hmm good idea, thanks!
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ok so I’ve never had a problem with these before, but I just tried fractal level 21 for the first time and our group could not, no matter how many times we tried, destroy the left and right seals. The only way we could charge the hammer was to lure mobs into the hallway, and many times rushing in to break the seal led to somebody’s death (and we could never revive with so many mobs in the way). Even if we did manage to hit the seals the cultists healed them too fast.
I don’t know if it’s the group comp (ele, ele, mes, mes, warrior) or what, but is there a proven strategy for this? The first time we made sure to only kill one per side, and we got a good deal done that way, but we wiped and on all subsequent attempts the mobs didn’t reset, making it impossible for us.
Endless Petrification Tonic
The problem isn’t them being account-bound. The problem is that gambling is the only way to get them. Keeping them account bound and selling them individually in the shop is the proper solution.
Of course I would prefer this solution. However, at this point I am willing to settle for anything that will make my desired items even POSSIBLE to reliably obtain. It’s really a sad state of affairs…
Endless Petrification Tonic
Enough is enough, I can’t take this anymore. I’m sick of this poor design paradigm milking me of everything I’m worth. All I want are the endless mystery tonics from the black lion chests. But I will never get them. Why? Because they are account bound and have a sadistically low drop rate of worse than .2% per chest. I’ve opened nearly 700 chests (that’s worth 1400 gold at the moment) and only gotten one (of the three varieties).
The same applies to the wintersday minis (although to nowhere near the same degree). Each chest costs way too much for way too small of a chance to get what you actually want. Although I don’t personally care about the minis, I know many who do, and it is the same principle that makes them so stupidly hard to obtain.
Please, just make these items tradable. I will GLADLY pay market price, just please don’t make me play with this cursed RNG any longer.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I just wish there weren’t SO many different types of weapons. I got the sword and warhorn which look pretty neat, but all I really want is the dagger (since my main char is an ele).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Heh, I also have two pre-patch EL halloween tonics. Would be nice to be able to sell one.
But more importantly… I’d really like some staff input if possible on this. It is such an easy change (presumably just changing a flag in the code… heck they might have even made a UI for changing item properties easily) that I don’t think it is unreasonable request. Please, please consider removing the account bound flag, so that these items are no longer completely out of reach for those who want them.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ok, I feel bad bumping, but I do feel that this is the only way to get attention for a niche issue like this. While this problem is not a huge priority for most players, for the ones that absolutely want these items more than any other in the game (and that is not an exaggeration for myself), the problem is enormous. At this point it would be accurate to say it is significantly easier to get one of the high-end legendaries than collect all of these tonics. That is absolutely unacceptable. If they are made non-account bound, folks who actually want them can get a chance to buy them from those who got them by chance and don’t want them, bringing their cost down to true market value (which is only fair). It is a win-win for both buyers and sellers, so there is no reason why the draconian “account bound” tag should still apply.
Even if this problem does not personally affect you, could you do a fellow an ENORMOUS favor and post here to show your support. It would mean a ton to me, and help ensure that other items in the future are not made out of reach by a similar combination of unfair RNG and outdated account bound status.

Historian Fia in Cursed Shore also has two variants… which is even worse since it is supposed to be one person.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I play melee d/d elementalist primarily in all game modes, and I definitely find my dps better than with staff, and find it more fun. That said, I do find that I have to do a LOT more than my ranged group members in pve dungeons, especially in high level fractals where a missed dodge can mean death. It really doesn’t seem like it’s worth the bother sometimes when ranged can do fine dps facerolling with 25% of the dodging.
Endless Petrification Tonic
A rule of thumb I heard is that you should have your armor be 10% of your health. Then if you do a lot of healing, deviate from that to have more toughness. Or if you face a lot of condition damage, deviate from that to have more vitality/health. There is math behind it but I’m too lazy to elaborate it right now.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I think it’s been long enough. Every other insanely rare item in the Black Lion Chests is no longer account bound, in addition to all the other recently released endless tonics (barring the individual toy endless tonics, which are all encompassed in the tradable endless toymaker’s tonic). I just can’t take the RNG anymore… I’ve opened over 601 chests to date and only received one (of the three different varieties). I refuse to buy any more keys for this. I just want to spend 500g on the tonics and be done with it. Please allow me this privilege.

Just keep them for now, one slot wasted isn’t too bad. Odds are you’ll just end up selling them, but better safe than sorry.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Gift Dolyak is actually significantly harder to get. But I agree it makes no sense to buy it. The only reasons I can see is that people don’t realize toymaker has all the transformations, or speculators are keeping Dolyak high.
Endless Petrification Tonic
It’s almost better to have GW2LFG because I find the people who tend to post there are better than average (since they care enough to post there).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Let’s see, so you exploited entropy enough to get 14000 achievement points, and now you want to nerf it so nobody else can? Right then… if you want to nerf it so bad hows about you take the 13500 point hit too?
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ok, so it appears it just takes a while for the model to load is the problem. In case anybody else is wondering.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Neither my toymaker’s NOR pvp toymaker’s bag have any visible model when I equip them. And yes, I DO have the visibility checkbox ticked. Anybody else have this bug?
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
Yup I sold a 250 stack about a minute after the patch at 1s50 per and it promptly crashed to 1s a minute later.
Endless Petrification Tonic
You’re talking in extremes. It is perfectly logical to say that the pros of having a lot more mf outweigh the negative of hindering the group (and yourself). The problem is, that your group ONLY gets the con, and none of the pro.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yeah I got 14. Nothing good in them, but hey, at least they care.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Check your gold, that’s the message you get when you don’t have enough money to buy something. Have you been picking up your money from the tp pickup tab?
Endless Petrification Tonic
I agree. I liked it at first, but now I want to be able to complete my build, and this kitten magic find makes me feel like I can never replace my pirate runes without sending myself to the poor house. Get rid of it, it only serves to make the greedy richer and the selfless poorer.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Probably, but they could very well decrease the drop rate when that happens. I have a feeling they’re making the drop rate a bit higher than it would be in the spirit of the season. Or maybe I’m wrong and it will drop like peanuts and plummet in price. I somehow doubt it since they want to sell the temporary kits but it could happen.
Anyways, I’ve decided I’m probably going to keep it now, so I’m just happy I don’t have to worry about it becoming out of reach.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Mad King costume is 100x more powerful than any other current costume. Mostly because of the joke move which does like 5 unavoidable hits since it stuns (and then you can automatically follow up with the fear move, run away for a couple seconds while throwing pumpkins, then repeat).
I’m guilty of having trolled people with the mad king costume in rata sum before. Put a table next to a cliff and fear away when they interact with it. Since waypoints are free and you usually don’t damage armor with falling damage, I don’t feel too bad (and even my victims start having a good time after the first few falls ).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Why should us squishy classes have to sacrifice dps for better vit/toughness when it is not mandatory for the tougher classes? The thing is, unlike most games where squishiness is offset by high dps, if anything elementalists have LOWER dps than warrior when both running full offense. The only thing that makes this ok in pvp is our great healing/regen, but in FotM it’s worthless. At least guardian aegis etc and thief stealth are still useful in PvE, leaving elementalists as the only super low hp class with no counters against 1hko other than dodging (and a few utility skills on huge cooldowns).
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
I wouldn’t mind being 1hko’d if it happened evenly to all classes. However as it is (at my current fractal level) that is not the case, and it is causing everybody to hate on elementalists for dying too much. I don’t want things to be easier, I just want them to be fair.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I think they did it to screw with the people who were putting up show-off buy orders. I know John Smith said they might do something like this…
Endless Petrification Tonic
Like i said, you can open 10,000 or 100,000 – it doesn’t matter if u open 1,000,000 – chance is still chance…. no probability comes into play here.
You have to remove logic from this equation which your coming back to by stating “probability”.
I will look into that. It doesn’t make sense to me that that probability can not come into play. I am not very savvy with computer programming ( I know how to code in python/matlab/etc and such for math, but not very big on C++).
As to the question, I would still like to know why the bell wasn’t a skill based reward.
That’s because he is wrong, and is being pedantic. Yes the odds that you get the bell each time you open a box is the same. However, the probability of getting the bell SOMEWHERE in 10000 boxes, is much much higher.
The actual probability of getting at least one bell given a probability of .01% per box (aka .0001 or 1 in 10000) is:
1 – (.9999)^10000 = 1 – .367861 = .632139 = 63.2%
(.9999)^10000 is the probability of getting no bell 10000 times in a row, by the definition of independence. It does average out to 1 bell in 10000 boxes however, since there is a probability you may get two or more (but that average will only be converged to with a VERY large number of samples, in the billions range probably).
Also there is no difference between probability in the “real world” and in computers, other than the fact that RNGs aren’t truly random. Independence is still independence.

Heh, I guess it works more like combining 4 yellows in the mf than anything else. Odds are, you get another yellow (rarely an exotic, in this case the toymaker’s tonic).
Endless Petrification Tonic
At 57 I imagine health doesn’t matter period since everything will one-shot everybody. Before that point however, low hp/armor classes are at a major disadvantage in my opinion.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Alright, I’ve just begun noticing a trend when I try to find a group for FotM lvl 20 with my ele… people join, see that I’m an ele, and drop. It’s really disheartening.
Unfortunately the problem is rooted in the dungeon itself: at high levels the dungeon is disproportionately unforgiving against elementalists. This is because our survivability is based off of healing and regen, instead of raw hp and toughness. While we fare just fine in pvp with this since other players don’t have insane spike damage (outside of backstab), in the dungeon our survivability mechanism is completely nullified since monsters can easily one-shot our pitiful hp-pool, or otherwise not give us time to heal. This means that while warriors and most other classes can make a few mistakes dodging (since the hits that would 1hko us only bring them down to near death), as an elementalist you must play with a LOT more focus or face repeated deaths (which is probably why nobody wants to play with us anymore).
Even though I am running carrion exotic armor with 30 points in water and 10 points in earth, my hp pool sits at a measly 16600, and my armor 2103, which still leaves me quite vulnerable to the huge attacks in this dungeon. I do fare fine still, but because of the (well-deserved) stigma, people don’t like to party with me.
Is there anything that can be done about this? Honestly I do think elementalists should be given a bigger hp pool, perhaps at the cost of some healing. Having the lowest health AND armor in the game is a bit too much. Maybe consider a PvP, PvE split? Or perhaps just for this dungeon at high levels make it so enemies do less damage to classes with low natural armor/hp. It’s really not well balanced as is and makes me want to stop playing, since as I get higher people will start excluding me more and more.

Wow, that long? I have a bunch of commendations, and not in the chest form either, so my inventory slots are running dangerously low.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Haha, so I’m not the only one who got the idea to do jumping puzzles as these guys.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Eh, it’s not so bad. It’s more interesting then the wooden dagger at least. I really wish they would have made a candy cane striped dagger instead. But you know the sad thing? There are so few good dagger skins that I actually LIKE the wooden dagger.
Anyways, all fail in comparison to princess wand (Imma have to stock up on those and start using scepter).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yes they do. I opened 15000 bags during Halloween before I got one. Then I got 2.
Also, a lot of the ones that I opened were personalized which had better drops for most things. Although whether or not that extended to EL tonics as well is anyone’s guess.
Endless Petrification Tonic
The main problem I have is tying ascended items to ectoplasm as well. As new ascended pieces are added, exotic pieces are going to become even more expensive simply because the ascended items are draining the supply of ectos to nothing. In my opinion, the two tiers should be completely segregated, given that exotics are now supposed to be stepping stones.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Endless dolyak? Well that’s a bummer. Easily the dumbest form that the endless toymaker tonic transforms you into. And lol, I screwed up selling my toymaker’s at 30g in anticipation. Thankfully I saw it skyrocketing and bought it again before it went too high (36g).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Yup I’m totally making this one. I told my group as soon as I saw them in the dungeon. I’ve never used minis before, but from now on I’m rolling with Mr. PlushPlush. And with my toymaker’s tonic I can transform into one and have double the fun!
Endless Petrification Tonic
Well, sweet, I just got it for 133g. Now I’m not sure if I should keep it or wait for it to skyrocket after wintersday and sell it… I really do want it but it could make me a lot of money. Ah well I guess I’ll just keep it in my bank for now and decide later.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Well there are some mushrooms in one of the DEs in Celadon Forest (I believe) that shrink or grow you for a brief time if you eat them. Unfortunately I don’t know of any very long lasting size buffs/debuffs.
Endless Petrification Tonic
In a word, yes. They are quite op, and would break condition builds in sPvP if introduced.10 seconds is really not anywhere near long enough for a cooldown.
Endless Petrification Tonic
The endless toymaker tonics (that currently drop from gifts), which will probably be made by mystic forging 4 normal endless toy tonics.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Except they’re account bound, nice try
You don’t know if it will be account bound or not. Besides, if more people have the account bound ones there will be less demand for the other ones anyways since they are the same.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I expect the endless toymaker tonics to tank in price tomorrow after we “find out” that combining all the other endless toy tonics in the MF yields one. That’s why I just sold mine for 30g.
