In beta of Southsun Cove bikinis were actually for sale on the gem store. Then they took it away because, I don’t know, maybe they’re afraid of feminists or angry parents or something?
Point is, I’ll pay you to get them, so please put them back.

There was a beta? How do you even know this stuff?

But if that’s true that they had them and took them out… I can’t hold all of these wtfs. I stand by my initial assertion that Anet is more conservative than Rush Limbaugh at an NRA convention. Anet: we know you don’t want to be Tera, but this is just getting ridiculous. A simple swimsuit that we can’t even fight in is not going to open the gates of Hell.

I agree, why aren’t we getting swimwear?

Because at the moment whenever we dive with our town clothes we switch automatically to our armor, since going underwater involve equiping our breather and trident.

So unless they deactivate that or allow us to equip our town clothes on our armor instead of swapping, getting any kind of swimwear is unlikely and pointless… Except if you want to walk around in bikini on the beach/everywhere else without swimming.

I love how you assume people give a rat’s behind if they can swim in the skin or not. I’ll give you a hint: they don’t. Even if this game didn’t have water people would want a swimsuit skin.

PvP reward treatment is so neglected in this game… they obviously put all the thought into the PvE end and then just tack them onto PvP to shut people up.

At least take solace in the fact that light fused gauntlets don’t really match most light armor well at all.

in Elementalist

Eh no. That would defeat the purpose. I DO think we need weapon swap, but it should have this restriction: weapon swap cooldown is tied to attunement swap cooldown. Gives us many more possible builds/tactics/range options (which we are supposed to have as the “masters of versatility”) without making us overpowered and able to pull off ridiculous chain combos.

Seeking an effective underwater setup

in Elementalist

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

How to win as elementalist underwater:

1. Use earth anchor (skill 4 earth) on enemy to sink them to the ground
2. switch to water and use skill 5 next to enemy directly into groound

This will cause all hits of water 5 trident rush to connect, causing massive damage and often killing from near full health. Use arcane wave at the same time for added potency. Many times you won’t even have to use anchor since enemies love chilling near the ground anyways. Also this is a good way to get rid of annoying downed people underwater.

Sadly once you’ve blown this combo and burned whirlpool, you don’t bring much else to the table damagewise. Retreat and come back once cooldowns are done.

3. Rebuy after prices crash for long term investment

We may have already hit the bottom of the crash, so it’s not a bad idea to buy now. Judging by the most recent rebound of the greatsword I suspect the rest will soon follow and continue to rise as rime goes on.

Also for those claiming the lesser halloween skins haven’t risen much: their percentage rise has still been quite good, most quadrupling or quintupling in price since halloween.

This just isn’t a game where you are meant to stay in just either ranged or melee.

Tell that to eles. We don’t have a choice. Because of our lack of weapon swap we are locked into either melee or range. Scepter/dagger is the only thing that comes close to giving us the choice, and it still can’t manage a range over 900. Not to mention the fact that if you don’t like scepter dagger you have nothing else to choose from for melee/range balance. Terrible design flaw imo.

Elementalist Doomed by lack of Weapons?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

I keep coming back to the thought that our lack of viable build variety stems directly from our lack of weapons and weapon swap. Save engineer, all classes can mix and match their weapons in SO many more ways that we can, resulting in many more varied and unique builds, many of which even the developers haven’t thought of… not to mention being able to mix range and melee effectively. When it comes to us though, we are pigeonholed into only FIVE possible weaponsets: d/d, d/f, s/d, s/f, and staff. When I’m playing ele, I feel like I’m forever limited to the narrow combos that the developers thought up when they made the class, while other classes are always discovering cool new ways to combine all their skills effectively.

The worst thing about this is it is much much harder for us to adapt to new metas than the other classes… since really, what can we change? It is looking more and more like once D/D becomes countered by a new meta (which Anet seems happy to hasten the arrival of), there will be almost nothing left for us. At this point I feel that we are in desperate need of not one but SEVERAL new types of one handed weapons in order to provide us more potential weapon combinations. Personally I would prefer at least one of them being a one-handed long-range weapon (magic pistol?) so that we can emulate the ability of other classes to carry both long-ranged and melee weapons.

Honestly though I think weapon swap is also something that should be looked into… maybe if there was a requirement that one of the weapons had to be staff? That would at least solve our range/melee conundrum, and honestly, if weapon swapping cooldown was tied to attunement cooldown I don’t see how it would be overpowered.

Traitlines of course exacerbate the problem with our complete and total reliance on the arcane traitline… but that’s for another post.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

They’re still probably better than anyone at getting from point a to point b. Nonetheless I’m surprised it wasn’t a pvp specific nerf.

Only with fiery greatsword (which as an elite has a long cooldown). Without it, thief and warrior blow us out of the water. Probably ranger too.

Nonetheless, our mobility in PvE was one of our major selling points, so anet’s going to have a lot of angry customers on their hands with this completely unjustified PvE nerf. I’m chalking it up to laziness and unwillingness to do the work to split the skill (you’d think it would be an easy change but who knows how poorly designed their code is).

Future RTL nerfs

in Elementalist

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

this is the most terribly thought out nerf. The most OP part of RTL was it was used as an escape tool. Here’s the problem…..I only need 1 RTL to escape after being in combat….so it does nothing to address that. The extra CD does nothing to prevent this.

All this nerf does is make traveling slower. Who cares? We’re not nearly as fast properly spec’d thieves/warriors. It’s just PvE anyway.

Want to make RTL more about offensive focused and gap closer? Up the dmg, reduce the range, reduce the CD. It should be a 900 range skill on 15s CD. That way, it doesn’t get you out of trouble as easily. It’s still great gap closer. It’s still useful for travel.

I agree with this 100%. I’d much rather have a good damage gap closer that I can use more often than the abomination it is now which fills almost no role. Seriously, if anet wants us to only use it in battle then why can’t they make it USEFUL in battle? As it is now if a player so much as dodges my rtl I can kiss it goodbye for the rest of the fight and then some.

Ele: State of the Game Madness

in PvP

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

There are so many things wrong with the answers given regarding eles in the recent SotG that I barely know where to begin. Everything they say is such a giant contradiction that by the end I was starting to wonder if it was a joke. Here’s a brief rundown:

“Speaking specifically… of cantrip ele”

Ok, cantrips are WAY to make or break for us eles, to the point that no other utilities hold a candle. I would hope for a buff of other utilities to compensate however.

“We don’t want to overdo it so we made smaller changes”

Nice, very reasonable. It’s definitely a good idea to tweak things slowly since large changes while adding counters (eg boonhate) and buffing other classes at the same time can have massive and unpredictable results in a meta that is already learning to deal with bunker eles.

“…however some of them are actually somewhat big.”

Ah, so the previous statement was a lie. Good to know.

“This is a BIG change… the elementalist is going to no longer be able to use utility skills while mist-formed.”

So let me get this straight… in order to nerf cantrip eles, you are making it so we can no longer use utilities in mist form. I’m sincerely dumbfounded. How in god’s name does this make any sense whatsoever? Why on earth would a cantrip ele want to use another cantrip while in mist form, other than to cleanse conditions (which is being nerfed anyways). On the other hand, now you can no longer use arcane wave or glyph of storms or whatever while in mist form… so non-cantrip eles are harmed while cantrip eles are unaffected.

The major thing though is that you can no longer use the utility heal in mist form… seriously? This hurts non-bunker builds FAR more than bunker builds, since non-bunkers don’t have access to as much healing through other means and thus NEED to be able to get off a heal, considering our game-worst hp and armor. Another misguided nerf.

“Ride the Lighting… it goes up to a 40, but if you actually hit somebody with it it’s just going to be a 20”

Why, just why. What are you guys thinking, 40 seconds?! Being mobile and able to disengage easily is a VERY necessary component for our class, and one of the reasons why offhand dagger is our only viable option. I’ll repeat, ele has the GAME-WORST armor and hp-pool, and if we can’t get away or heal we can get bursted down incredibly fast. Non-bunker builds are harmed even more by this nerf since they don’t even have much healing to compensate for the lack of mobility.

More importantly, our roaming is now crippled. I hate being a bunker guarding one point all day, so thankfully rtl allowed me to get to other points relatively quickly. Now however we will have some of the worst non-combat mobility in the game.

And let’s not even talk about PvE/WvW… I shudder at the thought.

Help with Condition Engineer

in Elementalist

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

Alright, so don’t know if it is just my current build or what but condition engineers always seem to ruin my day. Most other classes I can usually 1v1 successfully but I just fall apart against a good condition engineer. Is there a good strategy or build for dealing with them? They can lay on conditions so fast and frequently that my condition removal is rendered inadequate, and my tiny hp pool melts so fast to conditions (poison doesn’t help since it limits my healing). Furthermore I usually can’t burst them down fast enough due to all of their invulnerability and stability skills, and presumably beefy build (which complements condition damage). Is this a known bad matchup or is there a good approach to dealing with them?

As for my build I’ve been running d/d with standard 0/10/0/30/30 traits, and berserker amulet (at least for hotjoin, where I don’t feel like just guarding points). My utilities are mist form, and 2 of earth armor/lightning flash/arcane wave.

RNG on Store items

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Jabberwock.9014

Jabberwock.9014

The recent Flame and Frost dye kits are another example of Arenanet applying random chance on purchased items. The same was true for example at the time of the Mad King events with the random chance of gaining event related items from Black Lion Kits.

I am not certain what the motives of Arenanet are with these choices, but I personally feel it’s a horrendous decision. I assume Arenanet wants people to spend actual money on the game. I fail to see how making a lottery out of buying items positively influences this. I would assume people would be more likely to spend money if they knewn they’d be getting what they are paying for.

I hope this is a policy Arenanet is seriously considering changing.

Buy them from the TP.

The Molten skins (account bound) was a stupid decision. But every other RNG item so far have been purchasable through the TP, where a value will be assigned to them befitting their rarity by the general population.

oh my, so there will be a point that it will be more “RARE” than the legendary itself in the long run?

PS. i should have not used my skins (sob sob)

Don’t worry you can still profit off of the next SAB month… I know I can’t wait. Just make sure to build up a decent amount of gold to invest before then.

Anyways as far as prices dipping after the month is over, I’m not so sure anymore. The Halloween skins dipped a bit after the event ended but that was in part because the skins unexpectedly remained in BLCs for a week or so after the event ended. Christmas skins also dipped after the event ended but I’m sure part of that is because there were just SO MANY of them that only a negligible amount actually got used/soulbound by people. Also many of them were unremarkable.

On the other hand, the super skins are DEFINITELY gone after the 30th, they are not too bountiful, and because of their awesome particle effects a HUGE portion of them are being soulbound. So they have the potential to just keep rising. Honestly not sure what to do.

I doubt anybody is manipulating. This rise was inevitable and is a result of people speculating that the skins will skyrocket after the event ends. Rushes like this happen all the time, since people see tons of skins being bought up they think it will keep rising and so panic and buy a ton more hoping to profit (or simply get a skin they want before it becomes unobtainable). My only concern is whether prices will crash enough to justify selling now, or if I should hold on hoping for another spike near the very end of the month.
