What are your "Oh wow!" moments?

My biggest “Oh Wow” moment was when I finished downloading the game and logged into the second beta. (Couldn’t get into the first because I did not meet the requirements so had to upgrade).

It was such a long wait since Gw2 was first announced, so that moment of logging in was dear to me.

Clock Tower appreciation

I just wanted to say, thank you Anet for creating the Clock Tower jumping puzzle.

If you guys remember, when it was first introduced back in 2012, there were a lot of mixed feelings over it. Some people praised it for being a real challenge, and others wanted Joshua Foreman’s head served on a plate for making it so kitten hard.

I will admit, I was one of those people who did not like how hard it was for the short amount of time we had it in game to complete it.

But after much trial and error, falling from sideway gears, walking off ledges, and jumping at the wrong window when you reached the top, 2 years later, I am become legend, lol.

I’ve come to appreciate this jp after hating it the first year. It’s also always fun to do once you get past the initial learning curve. And I realize now that because of the Clock Tower, I am so much better at every other jp in this game. Nothing can defeat me no longer.

So once again, thank you Anet and to you specifically Joshua Foreman for creating the most epic jp known to man.

Now I wonder how the Chinese feel about it. XD

Wish List for the next Feature Pack?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

I got tons of stuff I would like to see featured, but here’s a few:

1. An Account Bound Bag
But they can go further and make it better by organizing it by the different items in the game. E.g. instruments get their own account slots, items like the broom, carpet etc. get their own account slots, gathering tools get their own account slots, and so on. Basically, items that are used for activities, for social purposes and to play with should go under this category, not ascended rings for example. That can go neatly in the bank.

2. Pve / Pvp / WvWvW Templates
I know they talked about trying to tie dyes and gear into them, so this one might take a while before we see them.

3. Revamped World Bosses
I really hate just spamming 1 on them, it’s time to make them challenging, and it does not necessarily have to be on Teq’s level, and forget about Triple Trouble, but Marionette level maybe? And if people all they care about is doing a world boss to get their daily rares, then they are being selfish. And new world bosses will be good to see of course, but I don’t want Anet to forget about the one’s currently in game, because they do need some work. And if the excuse is that new players will struggle with this, spare me please, because there is tons of veterans that go to these world events that new players will always have a helping hand.

4. Revamped Dungeons
They don’t have to do another Aetherblade path, just take the one’s you have, and break them down by sections, and cut sections if necessary (for those paths that have the same event maybe), and add mechanics to bosses. If Anet takes a lesson from Aetherblade path and fractal bosses, dungeons can actually be good again. Also optional events in dungeons should either be removed (because nobody ever does them), or make it so by doing them, the rewards get better at the end boss, or something. Buuuuuuut, I don’t think Anet is even thinking about touching dungeons atm. /cry

These are what really bother me that we don’t have.

If it is open world raids, they should introduce new world bosses, but also revamp some of the current big bosses like The Shatterer, etc. Because as great as it would be to have new content like that, you can’t forget about the old content either.

Breaking Zergs & More Group Play

in WvW

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

So in pve, the more players there are in an encounter, the bigger it scales to them. So what if camps, towers and keeps do the same. The bigger the zerg, the more effort it will take to break down a gate or a wall. And for camps, more Elites can spawn?!

I think upgrades would be the way to go about this. So maybe once all walls and gates in a Tower and a Keep are fully upgraded, you get a final upgrade that lets you detect how many players are around the area. It would have a 360 radius, with a decent size, not too big, but definitely not small, so just in case a zerg is hiding behind in a corner, it would detect them still.

For Stonemist Castle, since it has so many walls and gates, the detection area would remain within a specific gate or wall that a zerg is in, so e.g. if a zerg is pounding on one gate, then that gate only gets scaled, and not all of SM. And this could be true for other structures too.

So maybe this could encourage more smaller group play.

I just thought of this just now, so it’s not fleshed out obviously, but throwing it out there anyways.

Everybody that hates the NPE is going to take over the discussion after all the fixes have been released I believe. You’re going to see multiple posts by the same people that hate it, and it’s going to seem like a lot more people dislike the new changes, when in reality, it’s just those same people that really want to make their point across. And not that there is anything wrong with posting more than once, it is a discussion after all, but you get my point.

I mean you can see the evidence of it now, with people complaining in one thread over the subject, and then having some of those same people from that thread start up new threads on pretty much the same topic.

I do agree that some minor changes need to happen, but hopefully Anet doesn’t give in to the pressure and make a complete 180 to the NPE, because I believe some of these changes are good for the game.

So I can’t wait to chime in when all the fixes are done. Should be interesting.

Maybe “other” should be renamed “Member of” or “Representing” or “Alliances”, and having the guild (or having all guilds) and the Order you are from would make more sense there.

And maybe that could totally be in a different tab all altogether. Just food for thought.

I think it’s a compliment to the devs that did the original design. This guy simply took what was already there, and made it more user friendly.

And like Chris Whiteside said in the CDI – Guilds – Logistics and QoL thread:

Ability to distinguish a guild’s own commander tag(s)

Goal of Proposal

To remedy the visibility of other commander tags up from other guilds in the map and to be able to identify with a glance which tags belong to your guild.

Proposal Functionality

Have an icon that will only be visible by the guild you are representing next to the commander tag(s) from your guild. This way, other none guild people can still see the commander tag, but only people within the guild will know those tags belong to them.

This is greatly a problem when doing guild missions and you have a bazillion guilds with tags up all over the place.

Associated Risks

"Leveling as a Reward" Experience Crippling!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

So let me get this straight, veteran players have been wanting more hardcore content implemented to this game because they felt that it is too casual and that it didn’t feel challenging enough, that it was too faceroll, and that progression didn’t feel all that good because you got pretty much everything from the start.

So while they didn’t get level 80 endgame content, they did get early game stuff that gives you that progression, that gives you that challenge because you don’t get most of your traits and skills so early on. The game is still casual, but you can’t faceroll through content anymore, at least not early on.

So while it’s not the dungeons and more world bosses made into challenging behemoths, they did so with the leveling and the system they’ve put in place.

It really is all about perspective, and people just don’t seem to understand that they got what they wanted, but just because it’s not in a place where they expected it to be, they think it’s all wrong.

The game has become more challenging in this area, so open your eyes and appreciate it, because this is what you were looking for.

I really am buffled why veteran players complain that leveling is too hard now, when you want more hard kitten in this game…

Anet can’t win.

Rytlock Ritual End Fight

in Living World

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

It took me three tries to figure out all the mechanics to this fight, and once I did that, it became super easy to focus on what to do next.

So what you want to do is:

If meleeing, stability is your friend, because of the big strike that can hit you.
If ranging, just keep out of the strike zone.

Always look for spawning orbs, make sure you are close enough and dodge over them to make them explode, or use invulnerability when they hit you.

As soon as a mender spawns go after them, kill them and go back to attacking boss.

When Rytlock says you have to kill ghosts to charge the sword, do so, if not you won’t be able to do any damage to the boss. Once you kill enough of them, Rytlock usually reminds you that you can attack again.

If any fear banners spawn close to where you are positioned, then get rid of them, otherwise, just leave them be.

I did this with both my engi and then my warrior.

So probably events like the Marionette will not be playable and only story instances will be. Which is fine because it makes sense. (Season one will not be out yet, but it’s an example).

But this is a great opportunity to add events like the Marionette to Guild missions.

What they could do is break the Story Journal into two parts. One where a single player has access to story instances, and another where guilds can access the large scale event fights that a single player could not do.

So maybe they can try something like this.

As small as the world is, is a small as it will continue to be. And your stuck with the same old content between LS content, which is take it or leave it at best. And any innovation or improvements to content, such as better telegraphing never makes it’s way to the rest of the game. It’s like an entirely different game that’s be cut off, it’s very odd.

I love GW2 but I agree with this. Any improvements they make in the LS such like this, SHOULD make it into the rest of the game. Why it’s not done, confuses me.

Game Updates: Guild World Events, Megaservers, WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JackDaniels.1697

The mega server is good and it is also bad in some ways. So don’t trash it completely.

So it’s good because maps don’t feel empty anymore, so going for map completion is fun again. Being in a map by yourself is really awful, and at least now you see toons running everywhere.

And it’s bad because it affects large guilds whenever they try to do guild missions or world raiding.

That’s why I think maybe Anet should consider making some of these instanced. I know Anet is set on making the world feel like it’s alive and that anybody can join these events, whether they are part of that guild or not. But by doing so, it’s affecting guilds with this new mega server system.

Now I know the mega server is still in test mode, so I have hope that they will find a way to really make it work for everyone, somehow.

So I hope they don’t completely get rid of it because of some complaints, because like I said, it does have it’s perks.

Stacking is kinda boring, that’s true and it’s up to you, if you want to stack or not ^^
If you don’t want to stack, just search a party on your own and write in the lfg tool, that you don’t want to stack or even better: take newbies with you.
Other people maybe just want to rush the dungeon, then you shouldn’t ‘go in there way’. Just search, what you like to play

True, I could do this. But newbies don’t stay newbies forever, and they will learn that stacking means getting through dungeons faster and more efficiently. So you see, the problem will always persist. I’m for the hope that the mechanics will change for boss encounters to avoid this.

So I just finished doing COE path 2 with some random pug, and I gotta tell ya, this was one of the most fun experiences running a dungeon I’ve had in sometime.

Most people in my group were not very experienced in the game it seemed, or at least they didn’t know how to “properly” run through dungeons. Their under 3k AP’s would suggest that too I guess.

But this is what made the experience fun, because of the fact that they didn’t know how to stack. We ran it the way Anet meant it to be ran, and that’s with out stacking.

I got so used to playing the way we are all accustomed too while running dungeons, that it just became trivial really. Having to actually survive these encounters and manage my skills properly is what made this run so good.

So I don’t want to stand in a corner no more, I want to actually fight a boss.

Stacking needs to go! (at least in major encounters, could still be good strategy for mobs though).

What’s better? Server pride, or community pride?

With server pride, you mingle with the people of your own world, which is nice, but you’re limited to how many more people you can mingle with if you were to socialize with more people across servers.

Look at TTS, you can say that they are a community, and all their members are from every server out there (NA). So it works.

Besides, server pride only counts in wvw, but even that doesn’t seem like it with all the bouncing around every time there is a season/tourney.

Possible solutions to WP's (after April 15th)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

As you all know after April 15th, you will not be able to see a contested waypoint on a different map than the one you are currently in. So in order to see it, you will have to travel to that map, which will show you then, which waypoints are contested/uncontested.

It’s a very inconvenience method to have to travel to another map just to see that. We definitely lost a quality of life here. And add to that, we will not see which dungeons are contested or not, unless once again, we travel to that map to see for ourselves.

So what can be done about this? I think if we put our minds to it, we can come up with some neat ideas, but mind you, you have to take in consideration the new mega server system, and not just say, get rid of it, and go back to the way it was.

So I’ll go first and give a few ways that may help this out.

Waypoints are usually contested because there is a group event near that area, so with this in mind…

Have All waypoints be uncontested at all times, but whenever a player joins a group event, if they are participating long enough, the nearest waypoint will become contested for that player, and they will have to spawn to the next nearest waypoint they can find if they die.

So by having participated long enough and only then will the closest waypoint become contested, prevents other waypoints nearby that can also be contested due to other group events when you travel to them.

Taking in consideration the dungeon and fractal ways of spawning back to life…

Have All waypoints be uncontested at all times, but whenever you die, there will be a timer to how long you will be able to waypoint again. Re-spawn times will vary and depend on the type of event you are involved in. So e.g., group events will have a longer timer, regular events will have short timer, and dying because you just fell off a cliff because you got distracted by your dog, will not cost you much waiting time.

If you think about it, when you die in a dungeon/fractal, and your party is still in combat, you are laying there for a good while until either you get rezzed or your party gets out of combat, you’re basically on a timer there. And there are a lot of games that do that, so I don’t think it will be a huge problem if we had to wait a little. Also, as it is right now, the time it gets you to waypoint and make your way back to the event, will take you just about the same time with timers, and it’s just more convenient this way.

So I don’t know if even this can be possible with the new mega-system, but I definitely would like to bring back some quality of life to this area again.

So any thoughts? Ideas? Discuss.

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: World Bosses and Events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

Bosses like Teq spawning frequently makes the event lose it’s luster. That’s why I for one like the change that Anet is doing with this.

And it really boggles my mind why people jump on the hate bangwagon so fast when they haven’t even tried the patch yet, and also the overflow system we have now is horrible for a lot of people trying to participate in these world bosses events.

So just like we figured out how to get around the overflow system, we will figure this one out too. So patience young ones.

And people need to stop panicking, Anet did say they will make adjustments to this new system before it goes out live to all maps.

So give it a chance, than you can give your feedback/constructive criticism to Anet. Because right now you all sound like spoiled brats.

I’m sorry you feel like we’re spoiled brats. We’re just trying to make our opinions on the matter heard. You’re obviously welcome to have a different opinion.

We’re basing our criticisms off the information they’ve given us. If they’d like different criticism, they should give us more or different information. We’re making judgement based off the facts on the ground. There’s no ‘trying it’ – we know how it’s going to work, because they told us. The boss schedule, the waypoints and the dungeons, which are the three major points of contention, are fairly straightforward bits of information. And we don’t like some of the the changes. The issue is that by the time it goes live, it’s harder to change (because you’re making changes to a live server vs a test server). So we’re talking about it now.

Knowing the information ahead of time, does not mean that things will play off as it seems like it would. Like e.g., the boss scheduling, as it is right now, you get a chance at it pretty much every hour. While that seems fine, how many people are actually participating in these events hour by hour? It varies by server I know, but you can’t tell me that these events are full all the time, every single hour.

Now with the update, you will have less spawn times yes, but it could turn out to be good, as having less of them means having enough people (most of the time at least, I would think) to be able to do these events and not worry that there is not enough.

^ This part is what I meant when I said to give it a chance, that you might think differently after giving it a go.

The wp’s and dungeons part I get it, but I’m taking pros over cons here, and the pros outweigh the cons imo. You may not agree with me on this one though.

And sorry about the “spoiled brat” comment, but this is a year and a half of reading through these forums. I just couldn’t contain myself there.

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: World Bosses and Events

Sky hammer would be fine for hot join, but it doesn’t belong in solo queue.

And remove Capricorn now, but bring it back changed in the future with what OP suggested.

My guess is that the amulets and jewels will have every possible combination.

And since when do pvp’ers care about looks? Stats are still free btw, and you never really had to pay with real life money for anything in pvp, so this is not a big deal, transmutation charges won’t cost you an arm and a leg to get. Plus I’m sure they will drop in the new track rewards system.

Aside from account bound WXP, the feature patch has been pretty underwhelming thus far.

Speak for yourself. To me there a more than that to get me excited.

Stats Wardrobe

Swapping gear between chars can become really tedious for sure. And it’s the same with minis.

And in a way, this is a restriction, and maybe they will address this when the news for “removing restrictions” comes out.

Am I the one who misunderstood the blog post or is it all other people ?
From what I read, it only says that ascended will become account bound, which means you can remove armor from a character to give it to another and vice-versa, NOT that you will somehow unlock the ascended armor for your account ….

If you want to be able to use the stats, I guess you have no choice to move them around. But the looks of it will probably be unlocked in the wardrobe. Not sure though.

The dye change, the wardrobe, and the WXP I am very very happy with. The account binding of ascended/legendaries just leaves me disappointed that all the rest of my gear is still soulbound. It is a good change and a point in favor of finally making a legendary, but when i make a legendary I want to be able to pass the exotic it’s replacing on to one of my other alts.

I don’t think account binding everything is a wise idea. The market would take a major hit, and that will not be good for the game. And crafting will also take a hit, because people who make exotics to sell them later won’t be able to anymore, thus making crafting worthless.

Some things should remain the way they are, and hopefully Anet knows this, even if we the players think otherwise.

Feedback/Questions: Legendaries in Wardrobe

If you can only change stats on your main’s legendary and not your alts, then what is the point. Getting a legendary should be a personal goal, not a character goal, in which case making it account bound would make sense, and taking all the benefits of it’s full glory should go across every character, not just one. And it’s still only one person that has the legendary, they’re just using it in different characters now instead of just one.

Now for people who have more than one legendaries of the same kind, it’s simple, Anet should unbind the ones you don’t need so you can sell it on the tp. Now you’re rich again, and you can start doing the process for another legendary.

This change is good, and just because people think that legendaries will lose their value, shouldn’t change the course that this system is giving us.

And legendaries are still, and will remain even after the patch, the hardest item to get in game.

Why is there still no dueling?

in PvP

Posted by: JackDaniels.1697

JackDaniels.1697

Duel in the open world should be instanced, if it would ever happen.

The way it would work would be by a player selecting another player and sending a pvp duel request, if player accepts, then both players get sent into an instance, and duel there. Once it’s over, both players get sent back to the map they were in.

To make it unique, every instanced you’re in would have a background according to the map that you requested the duel from. Sort of like a fighting game, small area, different backgrounds.

There should be like an icon next to your name, or you be visible in mini-map to tell others that you are willing to duel, and there should be an option to turn dueling on and off, so players who don’t want to be bothered by it don’t have to be.

You know Anet would be really awesome if they gave us an option for all our individual pre-existing 80’s (characters) and ask us if we want to lock or unlock our traits. This way we get to choose which characters we want to lock and avoid locking all of them if you choose to lock just one character.

I already posted something similar but I’ll say it again. I have 3 level 80’s that I hardly have any map completion on. I would have loved to map completed with these characters and go through the new system in place. But you’re gonna need a new character after the patch for that.

Either way, it’s a great feat., but one that won’t really affect me unfortunately, unless I create a new character.
