You might see the skulls better if you weren’t reading the forums instead of helping your group.
This is a fun fight and I enjoy it. Managing the crystals by having some go out and kill tentacles and statues and bringing them back to the group brings something different to the game to do. Why exactly do you guys have EVERYTHING within grabbing distance. Spread out a little bit.
Good post and not the whine fest I expected.
sPvP is imo easily the biggest disappointment for the game, especially how much they hyped up they want it to be an esport. Say what you will about the WoW battlegrounds but at least they had variety of game types and you could do different ones depending on what pvp mood you were in. Here its all the same, unless I am missing something.
The little things missing are little but they add up. To some extent the game is new and lfg and preview type features can be added in but these arent ground breaking concepts. They are pretty standard and people expect them. If nothing else the devs need to say YES we are getting these features in. They could have burried down on page 5 of someone complaint thread but how many are going to see it.
One thing I will disagree with you on is instanced endgame. Unfortunately its required to be challenging. The more players you get the more the power ramps up so devs can control that by instancing and then they know roughly what power levels the party brings. Otherwise you get the dragon events which are a joke as are most of the cathedral events in orr. Because we do not have a currency to manage in combat (mana or rage etc) then it comes down to a question of just getting everyone up who dies faster then the monsters kill us. I get annoyed sometimes if there are too many people around an event because then its just too easy.
The only other option is to give the NPCs a ridiculous hit point pool (cathedral of balthazar fight, or the ancient karka) and then the test is the players endurance to put up with it, not their skills.
I guess I will add in my own limited personal view to counteract other people’s limited polling of the game.
Ran through the norn starting area last night and saw plenty of people. Some called out a champion svanir was up and about a dozen people were there when I arrived.
LA had me in overflow last night and I ended up going to cursed shore to help with a successful grenth run.
What it comes down to is that people are now spread out. We all aren’t low levels climbing over each other where dozenS of people are on our screen. Now I do notice there are more norn and human players in the game and that their areas are more populated. Asura areas are empty but you can’t force people to play those races.
After the patch I salvaged 1 yellow and didn’t get an ecto. Why did they remove ectos from the game?!
Seriously though…. spot on Dra Keln. Its nice to see people around here who understands how math works.
OP: Thank you for this thread. Its a good topic and certainly something.
Jairyn: I freaked when I saw your name that my account might have been hacked lol
Ascended items: If they were the same power as exotics they could stay in the fractals cause there would be no need to fight agony elsewhere. Because they are better people want them and the anger comes from people who hate dungeons now having to do them. Its the same problem DAOC had with artifacts in Trials of Atlantis and its odd that the devs obviously patterned a lot from that game but would make the same mistake.
How to fix it. Put them everywhere. Nobody complains about how hard dungeon exotics are to get that they are forced to do it because there are wvw badges, karma, crafting, drops, and gold vendors.
To fix ascended put them in the same ways and then put agony elsewhere in the game.
I can understand the devs wanting the incremental difficulty of the fractals. It gets repeating content for players without having repeating content development for the devs. But it didnt fully work out.
Next up.. YPC’s thread on nothing to do in the game.
You could have done all of the things you listed without your legendary
There is also confirmation bias that has to be considered.
The idea that the more you hear a message from more people the more correct you are in your assumption.
1: Both positive and negative people about a game are on a forum
2: Positive person talks positively about the game.
3: The negative person talks negatively about the game and about the person and trolls them.
4: The positive person either quits going to the forum to avoid the abuse or turns negative and trolls back.
The net result is less positive people and more negative people and thus the appearance that everyone hates the game.
Downscaling further is not a good idea unless:
A- they reduce WP and repair costs to the appropriate level
B- implement some sort of transmutation for mats like they did with jewels. I know there is a mystic forge recipe but I mean a little more realistic conversion of lower level mats much like the already implemented system they have for the jewels/stones.
Yeah those WPs are so killer that one yellow item vendored pays for half a dozen uses.
^^ All of which sites have numerous players complaining about the game…. Why cant you guys just take it from the players themselves…. Do you not think we hear other peoples opinions of the game while in party chat doing an instance/event/ect?
When your population is 1 million (or whatever the playerbase is) you can have an incredible success rate of 1% dissatisfaction but that still leaves you 10,000 people who want to go out in the community and complain all creating their own thread and flooding sites.
Yes they are the minority.
Sampling works because you hit a neutral demographic in a neutral setting and ask them questions. Surveys call your home or send forms in the mail or stand in front of heavy traffic places like grocery stores and ask everyone.
Forums are not accurate because it takes in opinions only from those who are motivated enough to find a way to seek out a way to communicate.
If we were to believe this forum is an accurate representation of the game then
1: Nobody runs fractals because its too annoying to find a group and the ring never drops. Yet there are plenty of people looking for group and plenty get run.
2: Nobody goes for legendaries because they are too expensive and too hard. Yet there are plenty of precursors on the TP. Perhaps not at the price you want but thats how a market works.
3: The Or zones are an empty wasteland because there are too many mobs and not enough reward. Yet temples get cleared and available to shop at so someone must be doing it.
4: WvW is stupid because there is nothing to do beyond a zerg fest. Yet I have queues to get into the maps.
If the forum is accurate why would they bother sending out a survey about the Lost Shores event?
All MMOs have forums like this if not worse. Why would any company make an MMO if their communities hate the game and players quit for everything and anything.
The problem is, all of this content with lower level zones becomes useless, except for running through it to either mindlessly and easily 100% the zone or collect mats.
This is a big reason why the low level zones are so empty. ANets intent was to have lvl 80s go back and explore and play lower levels. If its not challenging and no reward then people arent going to do it and we get threads of “OMG this game is dead epic failure we need servers mergers”
I would like the downscaling to be harder but I can understand it would be difficult.
1: Exotics have 3 bonuses and will have a gem with 3 bonuses. Lower levels you are lucking to have an unslotted blue in each spot and that’s with less # of bonuses.
2: Skills: Elite skills and Tier 3 utility skills weren’t even an option at lower levels.
“Guild leaders are able to demote other players of the same rank.”
Why is this in the patch notes?
So now if I’m the sole guild leader and I want to upgrade my best man to my same rank, there’s a chance he may turn and demote me, effectively stealing my guild from under me? I don’t understand why they changed this.
Because people were complaining that others get raised by accident. I guess I’ll give you the same answer I gave them.
If you do not trust the person with certain abilities in your guild then do not promote them.
I’m finding it hard to get enraged by that tiny picture with no context of the in game discussion around it.
Was there an announcement I missed or drops later on? This is the first I have heard of fractal/ascended weapons.
After your 50th fractal run there isnt much stopping to smell the roses on the same 6 or so different fractal types.
Course if its a big deal just sit and wait for those that want to take things slow and skip those willing to invite you.
I would need some confirmation on this from others, because it’s hard to believe. This seems like some kinda of bug or you are just wrong.
If you don’t believe that poster why would you believe others?
In 10 years of MMOs you have never seen someone have a group requirement? Come on.
I seriously doubt that much player appreciate what they did with the FotM dungeon. Most feedback that can be found across the internet is negative. Yes, the individual fractals are fun – no doubt here – but as a whole the dungeon and especially the reward system connected to it is an epic fail.
Stop and think about that for a second. Why would ANet purposefully piss off its customers there isnt even any real money involved with the fractals at risk.
They gave us a survey to take and we did. Thats what they will base their decisions not on “epic fail” threads that make generalizations and assumptions of the player base.
They do a lot of communicating with us. More so then quite a few other MMOs out there. Even with that I doubt they will tell us their secret meetings and plans. No company does this.
Its the holidays in the US. mid November until January 2nd people use up vacation before it expires and spend time with family.
What I would add is that a majority of the forum threads are negative about fractals. Those people happy about it are playing the game or flaming some other community that they are unhappy with.
And of course they are going to lock down threads if all they are is kittening and complaining. A community doesnt need spam. I see plenty of negative but constructive threads about fractals still around.
Really nice to read fun stories like this thank you.
A great break from the “OMG fractals are the devil ANet is epic fail!” post #5267
For someone who claims to have researched and read a lot about the game I’m trying to understand how you are confusing minis with elite skills. The video you link doesnt show the mini doing anything let alone fighting with you in combat.
Something else interesting.
I put in 1g to see how many gems I can get and it comes back with 71gems.
If I then put 71gems to trade for gold, it says I will get 70s99c.
Is there an exchange fee? This makes no sense.
In real life markets there is something called a spread.
When you buy stock you pay a higher price then what the seller gets.
The difference is how the stock exchanges make their money for completing the transaction of matching a buyer and a seller.
Testing it right now…
selling 100 gems = 1g 4s 58 c
spending 1g 4s 58c to buy gems = 71 gems
It does appear to be a 30% difference.
They get the same money amount in the end as gold transfers give them no $ and make nothing on a spread that a real life exchange makes.
This is about supply and demand pressure.
Their hope (I’m guessing) is that you will get fed up with gold prices and just break down and buy with money.
This will lower demand as you have had your gem needs met and prices will drop.
@ nacho, that doesn’t make sense, if people stop buying gems, the price would go down because the demand would be less.
I believe he means people stop playing they stop buying gems with money which lowers the supply of tradeable gems and prices for buying gems with gold rise.
We have to look at real market scenarios for the gem market in GW2.
Until there is proof that ANet is forceably changing the prices higher we can exclude conspiracy theories for now…
The price is going up because there is more demand to buy gems with gold then there is to sell them.
I buy gems with cash as since there is no monthly sub I feel I can do $10 a month and it be like any other game. I have never considered selling gems. I have no real need for gold.
For armor and weapons I can craft. I can spend karma. I can spend dungeon badges. I can spend wvw badges. All of these can only give me armor and weapons.
For wvw siege my guild regularly farms the jumping puzzles for siege so we are covered for blueprints.
My gold is needed only for waypoints and repair and working towards a legendary weapon.
Until there is a need to spend gold myself and others will not sell gems. We don’t need to. Looking at the market prices though players with gold have to buy gems for the things they want. The price action on the gem market is proof of this.
Sadly, very few will be able to reach the legendary
This is intended. So, it shouldn’t surprise nor disappoint you.
Exactly. 90%+ of the game is for the casual. Let the more hard core people have something that is theirs. I will work towards a legendary but doubt I will ever get one. Since its only visual and not mechanics then I am not missing out. Plenty of good looking exotics items out there anyways.
And what if it were easy to get legendaries easy. What exactly would people be doing after that? Probably complaining that there is nothing to do in the game.
I think you’re missing the point Raybunny.6190. They’re not discussing buying the T6 mats from the TP. For someone that has played for 700+ hours getting 70 of each mat is kind of low.
I hope anet adjusts the drop rates a little to drop slightly more.
Raybunny isnt missing the point. Ok so they only got 70 items. What about all the other drops they got? Its not like there is much to spend on in this game gold wise since we also have karma, wvw badges and dungeon badges.
Agreed with isendel. I’d sell it now. They are adding in other ways to get them so there will be more and prices will drop.
Now if you think demand will outpace supply like if there will be a bunch of new players coming in then maybe hold on.
Nope you are the only one that thinks it takes a long time. Everyone else has two actually. Certainly nobody in the other several dozen threads complaining about the time
There is no need to group.
Most of the game is soloable even veterans. DE you just all work together without groups.
By grouping, whoever finishes a heart first has to wait for others.
Someone will need to run back to sell because they forgot at the last camp.
Someone will need to run back after this to repair because they forgot.
I’m all for being social and join in on the /map chatting but no need to actually group
If you determine fun based upon the actual activity you are doing, in this case playing GW2, and you are having fun, then yes keep playing.
If you determine fun based upon what anonymous users on the internet tell you to think about an activity then you should probably quit all MMOs and most everything else in life too for that matter.
If you determine fun by creating a thread to troll people with then congrats!
and I am tired of people who can’t figure out how to get around the chat suppression mechanic.
At first I hated the swamp. Then finally figured out the mechanics and got past it.
I love that there are things in the game to challenge me as a player. I want more things like this.
It’s like buying that new car you’ve worked your butt off to earn, and finding out the teenager next door paid 20% of what you did for the same thing.
You seriously need to redefine your sense of self worth as a human being.
Sometimes I wonder if some players stay awake at night trying to think up even more complains to throw at ANet. If your actually serious and not just trolling (I think the Latter myself) then just wait for 5 minutes till your offered to move to your home server, I’m sure if you like to just hang around and listen to the chit chat then your not in a huge hurry.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
People play games to escape reality.
After spending 40 hours a week at a job for pay to receive limited resources to spend on their families needs, let alone any wants and dreams, then maintaining their household of cleaning, upkeep, helping kid with homework, shopping; they then turn to their escapism where they get a chance to feel like they can get ahead and receive a big reward.
You may call it being given a reward for no work but they have been paying for their emotional payoff of fun all week.
Regardless of how good you are or think you are… dungeons are a team effort. If the group had determined a specific strategy and you didnt go along with it… yeah you should probably expect a hard time. You basically told the rest of your group they were wrong and you are doing things your way.
I probably would have voted to kick you too and I say that as a lvl 80 guardian
Another thing is players ARE FEELING BAD. We all want to experience game on the same rights, not feeling handicapped by the level factor, not being people whom you have to help getting through stuff because we can’t find party by ourselves. I believe many players feel exactly like this, that’s why there is so many topics criticising current mechanics of levels in FotM.
Levels should remain but they should not exclude so many people from teaming up with each other. I’m waiting for Anet’s solution to this problem.
What we would then get are new threads about people complaining how low level unprepared people who do not know the mechanics of the dungeons and asking what to do then get into 10+ lvl fractals.
Low level fractals are easy for a number of people. They want to play the higher levels were it’s more difficult, more challenging, more fun. sadly, despite having completed 44 fractals so far, I am still only on level 8, because of having to redo them OVER and OVER every time somebody has to leave or is unavailable.
Either take the time to wait to get into the group for your level fractal, or do a lower level fractal. You arent having to do anything.
Until they have ascended armor for every slot, yes I would continue to work towards exotics.
Another question is. What would you be spending your currencies (dungeon tokens, gold, karma etc) on instead?
So the limited time event was limited?
Why do you feel the need to classify yourself as a casual?
If you are a casual (since you already labeled yourself as one), does missing the monthly reward really affect you? I don’t think it should.
Excellent point. Would a casual care about missing one monthly achievement?
1 free forum thread about how you didn’t get anything worth salvaging and how GW2 has failed.
I believe TC has been named the unofficial RP server by the RP community. I havent seen any other server mentioned for RPing.
Lots of definitions of what casual means.
It takes an hour to do a dungeon run. If you cannot commit to it that is fine but not everything in the game needs to be targeted to the <1 hour gamer demographic.
Leave things in for lots of playstyles. I hate sPvP but I am happy they now have achievements for them even though I will never get them myself.
You say that its too easy AFTER the fact that you have been through them. We are hand held as you call it through lvl 1 and then up because we had no reference to what they were. Was 5 too hard? Was 10 too easy?
You and others are making this lvl thing out to be a bigger deal then it is. No incentive at all for guildies to run lower ones? What exactly are you in a guild for if not to give and get help from others? I’ll run lower lvl fractals rather then wasting time doing nothing but waiting for your exact level of fractal to need a group.
So what are you proposing then? You ask if anyone has experienced this.
If you mean experienced someone in life being mean to you then yes everyone has.
and thats why I never run PUGs.
They do need a kick system though. I thought it was a majority of the group so 3 people would be needed to vote to kick you guys out.
LOL. I love how you are spamming your thread complaining about how you are not spamming in the game. Suuuuuuure you arent.
