I was thinking the same. If you play WvW for loot acquisition there is something you didn’t quite figured out of this game anyway….
Loot or not, it should be still fixed.
They are so easy and fast to do, the gold you got was not justified. Have you tried it with new subclasses? It’s a complete joke, you can easily duo/trio (made with DH and Herald) it. There’s no challenge, nothing. You even get about 70s and the tokens for exotics. Compared to the time and effort invested it’s still okay.
If you like the dungeons then do it for fun. I do it from time to time, rarely, but yeah, for fun! It’s not always the kittening rewards.
I mostly pug so I tend to join parties that are on lfg and after HoT, almost all are casual. I noticed playing the elite spec made the gameplay a lot easier for me, but few days ago I joined a speed clear party and we ended up doing few dungeons. 4 elites + 1 vanilla and we killed bosses way faster than a speed clear party would pre-HoT. I can see what you mean but I don’t agree with how much they nerfed the gold reward. Compare it to harvesting for example, how much effort that takes and how much gold it makes.
Actually critical strikes does more dmg mathematicly speaking which can be easily proved by calculations or jaxnx dps meter.

I bet some players, especially the new ones, are more like “wooooooooooooow”, you might not but some people do like gimmicks.
WvW was never friendly to new players and if they don’t bother now, they woudn’t bother anyway pre-HoT.

Thief population has learned that nothing is sometimes the better option.
I liked my build before HoT better, but that was before they nerfed condi clear, removed the precision to vitality trait, jumbled the rest of the traits into terrible places and finally removed guard stacks from wvw. After that pile of nerfs daredevil became the better option the second HoT hit stores. With all the new reveals dumped on top of the nerfs to baseline endurance, the added mobility of daredevil tops anything on base class now. But like I said, if I could choose between my build today and my build 8 months ago, my old build would win hands down.
Yes I must agree. Although it wasn’t a direct nerf to Thieves, Indirectly they nerfed our HP pool Gain, by removing Guard stacks. Which to this day still don’t really know why. Does anyone know why? I don’t really understand why the majority of all classes have a reveal debuff either. My build 2 years 8months to 2 years ago still works pretty well with no complaints from me. “lightning Blade”. But I guess i am just used to playing the High risk/Reward spec.
I still stick close to my Core Thief.
I believe the reason for removing guard stacks was that it gave quite an advantage vs those with no stacks due to the time investment required to obtain the ranks.

I don’t have problems with DDs but with vault. Mostly I play squishies, ele or thief sometimes, 1 vault that hits me is enough to down me from full HP. At least with ele I can put up some aoe pressure on the thief but when I play thief, it’s pretty bad (I admit I am really rusty with thief these days). So I evade (S/D) or dodge vaults, then I am out of dodges and ini, and eat one vault.
To the OP, I dislike DD is basically acro 2.0 and the class haven’t really get anything new. The traits itself don’t add much to my gameplay. Dashes are great when moving around the map, running away and sometime during combat, but often in combat I need to dodge and not dash away.

OP, I have full zerker as well, changing gear to more defensive option won’t help much. Timing on skills is important, no point starting meteor shower channel or overload if the boss is about to use his 1 shotting skill, swap utilities as needed for particular fights.
Aftershock is amazing and the reflect is worth slightly lower dps from not having fire signet.
Wash the pain away – I almost always use this now, arcane brilliance only for very short fights if the party lacks might (no ps warr).
Imo, glyph of storms is good now only if you need blinds for trash mobs, otherwise I don’t use it.
I actually think it should be the other way around. Add a delay on the weapon swap to prevent that sort of gameplay.

I’ll be happy with almost any change as long as the trait won’t be as situational as DS.
Swap renewal sigil for benevolence and take rice ball food. I personally don’t think air traits are that beneficial with minstrel gear, I prefer earth traitline for more protection and some little stab for the party.
Also, consider swapping flash freeze for stability if your party doesn’t have lots of stability because with this build, you need to be in close range to your party members and with full shout build, one cc chain and you are done.
They do OK damage…the range on them can make them a handicap at times imo. But cant complain about all those boons when cast
It does OK dmg on a tank build, which would normally do no dmg.
With a dmg build, overload dmg is insane. Air attunment self homing 3-5k hits make enemies run around in panic, fire overload gives me the dmg of meteor shower in melee and they can’t run away so easily either.
I didn’t like tempest at all at first, now I refuse to play without it.
Food ( 100 Power) Wrench (+100 to 150ish power) + Bolt to the Heart + Aquamancer’s Training
+ Might stacks (definitely at least 6 stacks if they’re in party with a Herald) + sigil of Force2600 Power/2000 armor = 1.3x damage already
10 Might = 2800+ Power —> 1.4x damage
Ice Spike isn’t OP : it has a delay, it is not instant , it requires a trait just to be 2 + 3/4 recharge. The tooltip when it is at 2800 Power is a mere 2K.

CoR is op.I tried a “Ice Spike dmg build” and with marauder/zerg mix+ 25 bloodlust + ok dmg food+ with heolbrak rune, without force sigil and only 6-7 stacks might
i got over 8k hits on enemy caster what is ok but to play only for ice spike was not a good idea XD.
Building only for high burst on ice spike is really not a good idea but it was decent for a wvw zerg staff build (pre HoT) as it allowed for combos like meteor + switch to water for sustain and some extra dmg. That was okay before HoT, with tempest I have good sustain even without water traits and no need for weird rotations to get nice bursts.
I run fire/air/tpt and most of my dmg comes from fire skills, that’s 150 extra power + 10% + 10% from aura use and all this is not dependent on sitting in water. PS/AT builds are way too restricting.
Playing thief is super frustrating.
I know that I am very rusty with the class now as I barely ever play it. When I go wvw with thief, I get bursted (zerk/cav) more often than my full zerker ele. The other day a friend asked me (my ele) to duel him in OS. He mains a thief and improved a lot since we used to roam together since I don’t play pvp much and he spends there most of his time.
First he used his herald, he got the elite spec that day and wanted to test it. I won first duel, then he figured out how to counter me and killed me every time.
Then he logged to his thief.
Felt so sorry for him when he couldn’t chop off HP from my team support (yeah a lot of the build doesn’t benefit me but allies so it’s even weaker than it could be in 1 vs 1) tempest. I did way more dmg to him then he did to me, he lost all fights on his thief.
Sad story of a raging thief and one ex-thief.

Try re-reading that. 1600 JUST from the chests. So if you’re doing WvW a lot, you would get the badges needed well before then.

I wasn’t very active in sPvP before HoT, so I don’t have a high rank or lots of the currency. That’s not unfair to me, it’s what happens when you don’t play a particular game mode. I wasn’t very active in dungeons before either, I’m not whining that it’s unfair I don’t have a lot of dungeon currency. Of course I don’t, I didn’t do them. If you want the stuff from the content, you have to play the content.
What actually isn’t fair is the discrepancy in ease between the game modes when it comes to leveling elite specs.
The reason I see the new amount of badges dropped in wvw as unfair to players new to wvw is that the badges earned now are not even enough to utilise all proof of heroics alone. That doesn’t even take into account laurel/gear vendors.
My own personal stash of badges is down by 9k just to get elite specs, didn’t spend any on siege or wvw gear and still lots of proof of heroics sitting in my inventories.
Anyone without a massive backlog of badges will just have stacks of heroics and can’t spend them.

One thing that is fun for me is that now I can play in WvW frontlines as a Tempest. Well it’s still the same bunky aura/heal support build though but hey, at least we now have the choice of playing backline and frontline.
Same for me, been enjoying tanky tempest in wvw mainly cos I always liked the “into your face” playstyle and died a lot with a dps spec. I can even command now with my ele (low wvw tier tho).

Even though elite specs are strong, they are not the perfect option for every single build in every situation. Daredevil traits are good in some builds, too bad that most slot them no matter what.

Base ele is still good and you certainly don’t need tempest in pve.
Staff builds naturally have less blasts.
Your gear is good, for the traits, I’d go with Persisting flames instead of Pyromancer Puissance as it makes your staff fire 2 last longer and when you blast, you get fury as well. That’s a big boost to your dmg. For arcane traits, the grandmaster trait you choose is good and optimal in group play as usually you get tons of boons on you. If you are alone however, you will usually maintain only fury and might. Personally I chose Elemental surge when roaming in open world alone – I can blast more often + 150 ferocity boosts my dmg too.
For utilities I mostly pick Arcane brillicance (blast), Arcane wave (blast), glyph of storms and fire signet are nice too.
The gameplay is usually starting in earth, especially for trash mobs, I use staff 4 to gather them in one place, earth staff 2, switch to fire, fire staff 2 (the blast is delayed) so there is one combo. Once in fire, arcane wave/brilliance for more blasts. Stay in fire unless you need heals etc.
Btw, it’s really amusing how much the tick is, it can get to like 750 in wvw with food/stacks.
In some cases it’s a nerf, denying you access to that swiftness which you might need if it comes down to a decap to win a PvP match, or if you’re running hidden thief and just need the stealth.
Mostly, though, it’s a buff. I lost count how many times I’ve missed steal because I press it a millisecond after my target enters stealth. This patch should prevent steal from going off in such cases, allowing me to use it for its full effect.
No, mostly it’s just a nerf, as it means that you cannot activate your buffs without a target.
lmao, this cannot be a pve issue because that would be ridiculous. Is this a pvp/wvw issue? because i can list several reasons why you shouldnt be using steal without a target.
While it makes sense the skill should work only with a target, this change shows how the class needs some form of self buffing.

A lot of wvw’ers play the gamemode as the endgame mode, for those, the choice of stats, including food consumables is important. PVP system even if (I doubt anet would spend more resources on wvw than pvp for this matter) split into separate pieces, wouldn’t offer same flexibility.
It’s mmo, I don’t see the problem in spending some time to gear up a character, even newbies can do that. Most argue that the stat advantage is unfair, yet getting asc trinkets is easy, rings drop like flies in fractals, and just from log in rewards people get tons of laurels. Now the difference is rather small between full asc vs exotic armour+wep & asc trinkets. You still think asc trinkets are hard to get? Then mmo isn’t for you.
If wvw would end up with amulets like pvp, it’d drive away many current players and those that don’t win fights now would only wonder why they still don’t win them when every enemy should have same stats as them. People just like mental excuses for lost fights. Check the screenie, tho not about asc gear, it shows what people want to believe to.
I find tempest healing ele the best, gave the build to guildie shortly before our first raid and he did well even though I didn’t explain how to play it.
Friend’s party with a druid and I barely saw any heals between the burst heals and by then, it was late for me. Maybe druid has more raw heals (haven’t tested it so can’t really tell) but I think it needs more from the player to provide the heals needed when needed. Tempest ele just oozes delicious heals all the time.

There’s the occassional bad apple too, but I generally find fractals to be a more pleasant experience.
But you said you haven’t run a single dungeon for 2yrs, how do you compare then?
I am finding that with the game having so many interrupts, skills with long channels just become useless (this is mostly from wvw/pvp view) as people learn the animations and how to play. Churning earth with its cast time is a suicide.
I find defensive stats in pve useful only for the content I am not familiar with as it gives a little extra cushioning when I make mistakes. Some of the hits that 1 shot my zerker ele on new maps would be big enough to 1 shot ele in gear with vitality, so imo, you’d need both vit and toughness, leaving you with little dmg.
I think you need to learn better when to overload.

Talking about it is the exact opposite than what they’ve done in the past. Ask the people exploiting food at launch how much warning they got. Don’t do it. It takes <3 mins to kill the trash and your account will be safe.
The whole teams gets teleported so you can’t really stop one person to make everyone skip the trash. It’s not just high lvls, every single run on lvl 10 has jumpers now.
Noticed the lvl 80 only stories lately while before HoT a lvl 80 in story mode was very rare? People certainly expanded their views after HoT.

The whole problem can be solved altogether by making it clear whether you’re safespotting or not in the lfg title in order to make sure everybody who joins the party is on the same page.
Would be awesome if people read the lfg tho. Just had a “lvl 10 kill all” party where while 4 started killing the champ, the 5th ran off the edge to start the boss fight.

Fresh Air air-fire staff tempest is by far the best dps in this game against stationally bosses.
There’s no competition. You can test it yourself with full zerk.
Hint: You can pre-swap to air while channeling Meteor Shower.Also the fact that you can move, gain protection/stability/breakstun while using Air overload, and can use it every 5 second is very convenient.
I don’t see how overloading every 5s improves dps vs bolt to heart, extra power in fire and 10% dmg mod.
