Really? I roam/duel most of my time in WvW, I don’t have either leech or fortitude, and it’s never seemed to stop me staking/downing (if duel) another player that does have it.
There will not be another season this calendar year. The matchmaking post-season will be back to the system before, with some possible tweaks, but it will be essentially the same system.
Please oh please say that by “before” you mean after launch, and not the rng stuff.
Pretty please?
Those TUP fellahs, always up to mischief.
/nod
There does have to be some reward to fight hard.
Calling bullkitten on this one. The reward for coming 1st should be the glory of coming 1st, that’s all.
It’s only about nightcapping and blobbing anyway, not much in terms of “deserving” a reward until Anet make changes to population per the thread they made specifically with that in mind, and in response to community calls for said and same..
Oh I’m with you on that, I don’t really care if there’s a massive reward or not, but I do understand the sociological landscape of MMOs. And a lot of players are motivated to “work hard” if they feel they will win a big shiny prize. As we’ve seen, particularly in NA T1, they’re even willing to transfer to make that possibility happen. If they don’t satisfy that MMO carrot tenet, season two will have mediocre turnout at best. So while you may call bull-kittten (meow?), if you’re being honest and have played MMOs for any period of time, you’ll realize what I’m staying is true.
But yes, for a lot of other players, simply winning is enough. Wish that was the case to get everyone out there fighting at 100% all the time though.
I think the best 1v1’s are the ones where you have a great fight and mid fight the enemy zerg literally tramples over the top of both duelers spamming 1.
Well this made me lol…..
To be fair, I’ve got wicked insomnia and only four hours of sleep, so it’s likely I missed it
But I still have no issue the way it is, I cast it, and see the resulting white numbers.
^ this pretty much.
I like my purple. I can see just fine where it goes, tag a guy in the middle of the blob and you get this beautiful array of white numbers. Make the colour too obvious and they’ll all dodge out of it and the spell will be rendered ineffective.
I think lower level toons got some bonus chests (linked with getting new Wxp levels), to help with people who liked to play alts. However, I believe the chests are account based, and not toon based (for the bonus ones anyhow). So when you get two on your lower level toon, you won’t get those extras on your main (I think, sorry, I"m not fully awake
)
Coffee! Get to it. I have insomnia myself, only four hours sleep! Guess I’ll log in. You better be there :p
This week has turned into a challenging one. I hope we make through in the end.
When you mean with challenge.that you must mobilize more people to play in the morning, than that is correct ^^
well just playing the same game
french had superior numbers on monday, now its our turn.
Dont know on which server you are JS or Kodash but yeah it does mean average coverage during the day. Did you understand anything else? Or do you believe Kodash and JS took lead over us due to some other reason?
This match up has been fun a lot due to so much guild groups roaming. Jade Sea has less though but on average not a number that can not be handled. So yeah it had been fun. And the challenge now is to win in terms of PPT. :-)
Psssst Balz is Ireth
Also Kodash’s Buka guild is a tough bunch of buggers :p if I win vs them I feel like I’ve actually accomplished something … They wear turtle hide or something, lol.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
They usually do it behind the windmill in the south camp.
other than that, I dislike it when people watch me 1v1, because the other person almost always:
1) gets another person to help them
2) stomps, so turning into a non-duel
I don’t. In fact I’ll usually shoo off others who come along and mistake the 1v1 for something else
I like watching two skilled players fight, maybe I can learn something and improve myself … And maybe I’ll even get a duel myself.
That happened last night actually. This tough Kodash ele caught me off guard and staked me. He ran down the road and got caught by two of our guys. Someone rezzed me while he was fighting the two, and I /sat nearby until it was over and watched. I grouped up with him and we both ran down to the windmill and had this epic 10+ minute fight. It was awesome, even though the fight wound up ending in a draw.
I know for a lot of players duelling is about ego. For me it’s about learning and improving. Which often translates in bigger battles later.
Well with an attitude like that of course you will fail.
But on the other hand, what does constitute a fail?
Not getting top 1?In my eyes it is much more of a fail to just give up without a fight than placing last in a league (my server will most likely place last in EU silver, since we have yet to be even close to win a single match-up).
Even if you lose the league you can still “win” by not giving up and actually put up a fight.
The main issue is that people only see rewards instead of playing for the sake of fun. Please stop peddling this nonsense to people who are looking for a shot at winning in a competetive environment and having some fun doing it. WvWvW is so not competetive that it ends up killing the fun for many players. Why should they futily keep showing up to “fight the good fight”? To prove what to whom?
Leagues are a joke because WvWVW matches are a joke —> because PPT is a joke -->because population imbalance is a joke. Same kitten from DAY ONE. I don’t care about league rewards, I might never even see them, but I’m not kidding myself about decent fights getting more sporadic so my days here are numbered.
Krall is just reflecting a different attitude/approach to WvW that’s often seen EU side, where the game centres more on the fights and less on the meta. Every server I’ve fought over this side of the pond come at you with a million fiery fists no matter pop size. It’s kind of cool, and makes for some fun matches. Very few EU servers focus the ppt meta.
You would still have the same amount of players per map. But you could go to any borderland to fight for your faction if it were implemented at this moment as is.
Meaning instead of the 3 borderlands, I could go to 30.I think faction pride would be stronger than Realm pride. That’s just me though.
I actually love this idea, it could potentially solve imbalance issues, unless guilds/players stack to one alliance, which is likely…. human nature, etc.. But how hold you zone the maps? Queue and get random out of 30 available? What’s to prevent stacking on say “server 12” … leaving the other maps barren? And what would that mean for people who have purposefully picked lower pop/lower key WvW servers to avoid the zergs (roamers/small crews, etc)
Just puzzling it out … But I like the idea of how it could potentially free up the queue/pop imbalance issues.
Why do people play video games? To immerse themselves in the experience and have fun.
The ‘rewards’ you get are inherently useless pixels, worth nothing once you leave the game. Don’t fall into the trap of playing for the rewards, that’s not having fun and in the end, you’ll leave with a hollow experience and wondering why you even bothered in the first place.
Why do I say playing for the rewards is NOT fun? It’s the same reason why there are gambling addicts. They compulsively gamble, not because they’re having fun, but because they’re addicted to the promise of a reward. In the end the reward will be worthless compared to the time and effort wasted by the gambler.
Any dedicated wvwer will know that the rewards in wvw are pathetic, but the true reward is the experience you’ll have playing together as a community and revelling each time you smash your enemies, or fight your way to the top outnumbered. This is the true end game content, so don’t tarnish the experience by being blinded by the promise of the reward at the end. The leagues, in this aspect, was an incredibly bad idea, and did more to damage the community than it did to fix it.
+1,000. Although I am enjoying the leagues. I guess I just like the structure of this set of competition. It’s better than the previous crazy RNG matches for me at least. And I like the idea that top of the heap doesn’t necessarily mean T1 (and I’m in T1).
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Ask yourself how would they scale the rewards from 1st to 9th place, etc., if there’s only one golden dolyak finisher, seems fairly clear … In the meantime, get out there and fight for your server. Next season, if the reward is all you care about, gamble on the server you think will win — bronze, silver or gold — and transfer. I’m sure they’ll have another transfer sale leading up to the second season.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Yeah I don’t personally care what we get, we have no chance of getting 1st, but I do understand for some players a big shiny reward is motivation to get out there and fight for their server. There does have to be some reward to fight hard. Giving everyone the same thing would be demotivating (the “why bother” or “just do as little as needed” clause). But then I’m one who chose community over reward. Not everyone is like that though and that’s perfectly fine, too. At least there were options way ahead of time to suit both types.
I’ll still congratulate the winners regardless of what “prize” I get.
It does say there will be a “markedly” difference from one placement to the other.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Markedly?s=t
Nobody can QQ about it. Everyone had equal opportunity to transfer if the reward was the more important thing to you personally. Some places were free to transfer. And each of the league winners – gold, silver and bronze – could vie for that top spot and prize, not just gold league.
It needs to remain a mystery until the leagues are won to create momentum for season two. But we have all had enough hints/information for a while now.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Well except for the fact that people were told this would happen nearly two months before the leagues started, with a sale on transfer fees the week leading up to the league start … So that if the shiny carrot was more important to you than the community you HAD AN INFORMED CHOICE.
We were told there would be a reward not what it would be therefore we haven’t really been informed. Everyone assumes it will be cosmetic because the QQ if otherwise would be monstrous. If we were told it would be a precursor or at least a much greater chance at one then thats different.
From Sept. 1, 2013:
I can’t comment at this time as we haven’t finalized anything. In addition, you should look at it this way, if people flee lower league servers to get into the top leagues, it opens the opportunity for people to move to those lower leagues and finish 1st or 2nd, rather than being in the top league and finishing 6th or 7th. The rewards for finishing 2nd in the Bronze League will be markedly better than the rewards for finishing 6th in the Gold league.
People can buff/stack/eat as much as they want as far as I’m concerned. Doesn’t matter to me. And I don’t have leech/fortitude.
One complete certainty…
A huge amount of QQ threads about the rewards no matter what happens…
This – Justifiable complaints by a lot of very unhappy players who completed the same achievements as everyone else but were awarded less for their effort because the world they happen to be on has less wvw players and they finished in a low position in their respective in the league.
Well except for the fact that people were told this would happen nearly two months before the leagues started, with a sale on transfer fees the week leading up to the league start … So that if the shiny carrot was more important to you than the community you HAD AN INFORMED CHOICE.
And not just tier one gold league either. If you chose to stay, that was your choice too. And medium pop servers were even free to transfer, depending on which server you cared to gamble on winning.
This is a competition. Everyone should not get the same reward.
a solid /pantontheback…and 2 blues a green and a mini dolyak
I’m afraid to ask exactly what a pant on the back is …. Lol :p
Fungiih, thank you for the lovely duel. You are epically tough.
Watch out for this Kodash ele guys. Had a fantastic 10+ minute duel with him.
I will use /say and ask “duel?”
If they are duelling they will quickly type at least Y (for yes).
I also don’t charge in right away when I see only two players fighting. My guy on my team shouldn’t need my help
He should be able to stake them. I’ll often wait and watch the fight, and if my guy goes down, and dies, I’ll jump in, stake the enemy, then rez my guy.
More than two players? I jump in.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
You have to rank up in wxp levels to get an extra chest. You’ll get one extra chest per rank level, depending on your servers place at end of week.
It’s a level 1-2 toon that’s tied to a specific guild. I’m pretty sure the bulk of Jade Sea knows nothing about this. When the match is over, just delete the toon and move to the next server. Careful blaming an entire server for the actions of one group. That said, we can definately use it to our advantage. Don’t sweat the spies, they are easily controlled, and often can be quite helpful — they just don’t realize it.
I’ve solo run supply catas and gotten outer garrison walls down by myself on reset. I’d hate to lose that
That said, catas take time to break down a wall. I think the issue you are having is that rams x3/4 are just too quick. In another thread someone suggested a gate upgrade that made gates as tough as walls. I think that’s a good solution. Invest in the upgrade = buys you some response time, which is what upgrades are supposed to do anyhow.
Fill out a support ticket here
Then why give 100% and get out there every day for your server if it’s just going to be fluff reward … Or the “everyone gets the same thing” reward? Please no. Make winning actually mean something. This is supposed to be a competition, not a pve event.
Most of server players doesn’t deserve reward at all so it’s kind of stupid give good rewards.
This, so much this. Most of them walk along hand in hand with the zerg. Why should you give them anything useful.
Maybe they should start to give reward for everybody when somebody in server kill tequatl.
Can’t figure out why they can’t just give better rewards for league and server top players. They have statistics how many enemies you have killed or how many times you have capped objective.
Lol.
I guess I wouldn’t qualify under your rules
I avoid the blob train like the plague, tower flips are a low priority unless I’m ninjaing them solo or with a few friends, my kill count is low compared to others out there, but I sure do know exactly where every last one of you are on any map I’m on — and I let my teammates know, too.
I guess that makes me a bad player and I’d lose out on the reward. Thankfully I don’t WvW for the reward.
I just like the competitive element of it (in fact next time it’s Piken vs SFR (or are you Viz?) let’s have a friendly duel — I’ve offered before in the past dear Junkpile, but you keep playing coy.
) Best player gets the prize?
That said, I really have no issue with people getting any reward who have not put in the same hours as I have. The categories for the achievement were extensive enough that each player had to contribute a chunk of time to finish them, and in the process helped the server, hopefully falling in love with WvW like the rest of us.
In the end folks, it’s just pixels on a screen, but I do sincerely feel those pixels should have some kind of wow factor for the server that comes out on top. I’m enjoying the leagues, I want season two to be an even bigger draw, and that sometimes only comes with the shiny carrot.
OK someone had an issue with something else entirely and support sent them this .. it located local.dat for me when I couldn’t find it via search previously:
Paste in the following line: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
Click “OK.”
Delete the local.dat file located here.
Hope that helps fix your bug issue.

Ok I tried this and it did not work, sadly. Thanks Astral for the PM about it.
Password is back to resetting every hour again now.
Completely agree with this.
You don’t ever want something to be impossible though. That creates a whole different set of problems.
My guess is not a newly created account, but a hacked one sadly
Then why give 100% and get out there every day for your server if it’s just going to be fluff reward … Or the “everyone gets the same thing” reward? Please no. Make winning actually mean something. This is supposed to be a competition, not a pve event.
If you have been part of GW2 since beta you can find it in Documents > GW2 folder.
If you installed from scratch it can be found … aaand I just went looking for it myself and it’s no longer where it used to be. And a search of my system failed to find it as well. Hrm, I guess they must have replaced the buggy file then.
Sorry then I have no alternate solution. That was my go-to for fixing sound issues.
Ah didn’t know
sorry, thought maybe it was a tiny window of hope
Have you tried the trick of using a http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation_Crystal with a white item?
Dream on jayne… I highly doubt anet is foolish enough to give the strongest world even more advantage over the others by handing out ascended.
Oh I dunno. Given that Anet has a plan in the works where everyone can get access to the ascended backpiece, it makes sense that league winners would get the perk of owning one a month or so ahead of everyone else
League winners:
Ascended backpiece chest — where you pick the stats you want in a popup.
Karma
Dragonite Ore
Gold
Mini dolyak
2nd Place:
All of the above, except instead of ascended, you get exotic
3rd Place:
All of the above, except instead of exotic, you get rare
4th and below:
All of the above, but RNG backpiece of rare/green/blue
I have heard of people getting that ban when they send gold to another guild for a WvW transfer transaction — ie. sending thousands of gold to help a guild transfer to their server to help in WvW. The system seems to see X amount of gold exchanging hands and flags it.

Ah Astral, thanks for that. I’ve had a heck of a year with this particular MMO (someone actively used my IP address as proxy for months (long story, I had zero clue), and now I’m a bit paranoid, lol. Not healthy to feel that way). And you’re right, the password seems to be the only affected, nothing else. That makes me feel better
Best guess is someone in game noticed you, took offense, and reported you.

Yeah I actually got sent a manual and auto reset password four times before they actually read the ticket. And then had zero movement on it for nearly two weeks after they said they were accelerating it, until Gaile stepped in to help.
This is more an issue of my privacy now. I’m quite worried.

Ok the unchecking username and password worked for three days. It’s back to resetting the password again.
This is starting to become alarming. Has Anet’s database been hacked? Would greatly appreciate some transparency here — even just to let players delete their stored credit cards in game. It’s better to stomp that fire out early.
Which Server are you on?
I’m on Piken hon. Up until the leagues started we were actually a medium population server, ranked third. But gold league EU is much MUCH different than NA. Completely different beast, including roaming and guild fights. Given the time you play, and the time that your earlier playing teammates are on, I think you’d find it very close to what you described above.
I read your OP and found it quite well written and thoughtful. And based on what you’ve written, it seemed like you’d be a good fit here. Yep, even in gold league.
Drop by Piken forum and say hi if you want more info: http://pikensquare.info
I mostly, however, wrote the above Q&A stuff to cover all EU servers though. Just a bit of info really for anyone.
Edited to add: as for English speaking servers, look at the mos … See the flag colours? Blue indicates international servers, meaning English is the predominant language. The other flags signify French, German or Spanish servers. But even on those servers you’ll find English speakers too. It’s just that English isn’t the dominant language.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
We worry about being outnumbered too much.
Yep. It used to be that way, but it’s changed. Even EU silver league on some servers have what they call a night crew. Watch the MOS (weekdays though, weekends tend to skew real data) during the time you usually play. It’s typically a good indicator.
We worry that our loaners (people who can play in NA middle of the day ) wont be able to have 1v1 or 1v3 fights.
Having played both NA and EU, I can tell you definitively that there are way more roamers in all tiers compared to NA. It’s one of the things that keeps me in EU. I can even say in a match thread that I’m looking for duels and will get whispers all week. It’s fantastic. And these duels occur anywhere from 8am EST to about 8pm EST
We worry we would be zerged over when there are only 5 of us flipping camps.
Some servers have havoc squads, but most are starting to realize their worth. Servers like Baruch have always had them, a few others too. There are blobs, particularly during EU prime, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. But I spend 90% of my time roaming and can say I can find my ninjas.
We worry that we won’t have people to do PvE during our Prime time.
That’s the easiest one. You can always check temple run sites like gw2stats and guest. It is quieter after 9pm EST on most servers both in pve and WvW but there are bodies to fight in WvW. So instead of facing 100 man blobs, you’d be dealing with 50 man blobs. And as havoc, you know it’s easier to avoid one 50 man instead of one 100 split in two.
This move is extremely important to us we are being very careful in our choice. Some of us have never been on any other server but our current one (since beta days) and so it is a big deal to move .
Then I’d recommend sending a scout over for a week to see for yourself. People can claim anything they want. Having firsthand feedback is usually best to help you decide. I won’t sell you on Piken, the server kind of speaks for itself. But I really do love it here.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Oh I think that would guarantee a stampede for season two.
Couple that with the fact they had a sale on transfers on the week leading up to the leagues, and that info like the one quoted above had been out for two months prior, I think people can rage all they want, lol. If the shiny carrot was the most important thing, you had all the tools to make that decision. Heck, medium pop servers were actually free to transfer.
