OP meant the population of the smallest server. Which in the worst case is around 5 people across all maps, which means a total of 45 across all 4 of my maps. If you think about it, 5 isn’t that far-fetched if a server decides that today is not the day to get run over. This means if some people decide they don’t like your face and not want to play, they can stop you from farming wvw rewards too.

Let’s say we go with your suggestion and have a cap of 80 during which you already own most of the structures, then I fail to see the usefulness of such a system.

There should be a way to report chronic and purposeful people who are on other servers who change toons and hit the tactivators just before any keep hit.

Period.

You are completely wrong. No company can punish their paying customers on a whim that someone feels like doing wrong things on wrong time. You first MUST prove the things they do are done on purpose and not by accident. The case of tactivators can never be proven, so it also can not be punished for.

Just because you THINK someone is doing something on purpose has no value.

Oh I think a full month of screen grabs with time stamps showing the same person doing this, and submitting an actual support ticket makes a compelling argument.

But you have to do the legwork.

It’s not impossible.

If you’re playing off hours and you can’t get into map because of a permanent queue, you’re gonna move

And if they’re stacked on all three servers equally, then it’s much better than what exists now. (One server ktraining an empty map — and technically one server COULD ktrain an entire map if the opposing teams don’t have the bodies/skill to counter 20).

It’s a good step forward.

Sorry, you lost me here. You sound like you’re trying to make this like pvp.

We already have pvp. With small maps. And no walking (or very little).

Once you play the game a bit longer, you’ll see that walking can be used as strategy, and quite effectively too.

But here’s the thing: You cant get memories of battle in spvp, you cant get gift of battle in spvp, you can’t get big epic fights in spvp. I love spvp precisely because of instant action, something that fits very well in the casual fast paced nature of guild wars. But while I’m playing WvW for the materials, we may as well make that fun too.

Well then you have it in pvp.

Stop trying to make WvW into pvp. It isn’t even remotely the same vehicle.

And that’s when the guild sits down and discusses whether to move servers. With no guild hall penalty, it’s less about rewards and more about group play.

In a perfect world, three guilds who are friends agree to each go to three different servers for the fights.

In a not so perfect world, ie. reality, the guild goes to a different map than EB, as EB tends to be Pugland, and most organized guilds know this. Other guilds on opposing servers agree to leave EB and focus fights on the bls.

In a compromise, the servers go back to the old days of scheduling organized raids during prime time for each map.

The bottom line is its 30 vs 30 with the possibility to expand as queue pops, and not 30 vs 70, which is never very much fun.

I will give you another scenario base on your limitation.

Let say initial everyone in ebg, capping it out at 70.
AA went BB’s BL with 20. Then, the BL enter a queue base on your condition.
They manage to break into keep lord by the time scout notice, the scout call out to prep for ewp.

BB responded, port into the BL with his 70, thanks to your queue, the 70 manage to get in, likewise AA get in their other 50.

Now the tricky part, AA got 50 at spawn, they need to run there to the keep. The scout pull the ewp, BB send in his 70 and immediate smash the 20. The 50 still running there.

Everyone porting in to respond, regardless of server, has to run from spawn. WPs would be contested. Enemy spawn to E/W keeps is a faster run than from north spawn and about equal from Garri.

Oh and if you own a keep with a WP on enemy map, equal time run to garri vs north spawn. Plus insta queue pop into strategic spot on map as more players are added. Make it important for defenders to respond AND contest keep WP to force invaders to run further.

Makes it a real emergency response.

And I agree with your point about EWPs, they’d have to be removed.

Here’s another example.

Server A takes its 20 crusty warriors to hit an empty map based on scouting reports.

Defending server responds, adding beyond 20 players to 35.

That means attacking server A has the empty map queue pop to add more players.

Conversely, Server A can sneak in with 20 and flip an entire map.

It will require new strategy and more rapid response.

If server A jumps to red BL to attack. Server B responds with 40, that means room for 20 more from server A. And 40 more players from server C.

It means you’ll have to have a very tight well composed team if you plan on ktraining, and more overall fights.

You will always be able to go to any empty map with 20.

So minimum 20 players per map, regardless of population on other servers.

As the middle server adds players, other servers can add incrementally. Middle server is the blue server, and will not change for duration of week as measuring stick. Blue server can only max out at 20 if either of other two servers have less than 20 on a map.

Trial period of one month to sort the issues from the whinging.

Only four maps. No new maps are created with population influx. Once four maps are full, there’s a queue.

Addresses:

  • server stacking
  • forces players to spread out or sit in queue.
  • gives all servers a fighting chance each week.
  • no overwhelming blob that rolls over another team (unless that team can’t meet the minimum 20/counter 20).
  • addresses night capping and runaway T3 ktrains pv-doors, assuming your team can counter 20.
  • encourages regional spreading out. So no one server has all OCX etc.
  • all servers are unlocked for transfer. But stacked overfill servers means less chance of getting in to play.
  • strong, lower pop servers can start to progress upwards with population issues levelled.
  • means an increase in competition.
  • offer organized guilds with guild halls the ability to take all those earned items to any server with transfer, but only active/accessible on one server at a time.
  • idea is reliant on removing linking and going back to traditional single servers to enhance mobility.

ADDED BONUS: your skills will actually work in three-way fights.

The way I’ve set this up is to have players be able to get back in the fight quickly. You could, in theory, set up a kill orgy, but there would be little reason to as really the whole map is now a kill orgy. I’m trying to get the flow of battle to ebb like the sea rather than flare and disappear like fireworks.

The main change here i think is making the map functionally smaller, that is putting waypoints everywhere and reducing walk time.

When they could just you know buy the brand new game for 1/3 of the cost and just transfer gold and stuff over. Sure it won’t have all other account bound stuff and wvw ranks, but it isn’t really worth paying $100 for a wvw’er to keep, not when they could be playing on two servers now for 1/3 of that cost, or buy 3 accounts and be on 4 servers.

No one wants to talk about “elastic servers” because well.. it’s elastic map caps you talk about, and well it’s been talked about before as dynamic map caps, not going to dig up my previous posts on this.

Forcing players into queues so you can make them transfer and spread out doesn’t exactly work either, when players don’t even know what server they could go to without running into queues again, not without actual server population counts.

These dynamic map caps will hit every tier not just tier one because it just relies on the lowest side map count, including tier 4 where nsp and henge could be forced into queues because of tc, everyones only choice is to move to tc?

No, it shows that you don’t actively do this yourself when you play — because otherwise you’d understand why this is a dumb idea.

Go scout, go do the grunt work, for a month. Do it every day. Then you’ll understand why these unguilded networks are the backbone of your server; and are built up because of cooperation and community.

Lol. Then create a WvW guild for scouts / defenders on your server. If you can’t bothered to do that then you really are not part of any network.

So unwilling to even explore how other aspects work on wvw maps, sacrificing a months time to learn.

Been over this before, human behaviour is essentially selfish on the whole, its up to the game design to mitigate against it and the design of WvW doesn’t. Alternatives have been proposed that do mitigate against it better

  • Everyone joining the link would be the exact opposite of what our guild decided on, and could rotate us into host servers that literally despise us and would try to troll us to no end. We wouldn’t even be able to use the public TS, so we’d be on a private Discord server, which means we couldn’t communicate effectively with militia.

Your guild’s reputation isn’t set in stone. WvWers for all their flaws, tend to be a forgiving crew if you pitch in and work.

And as you’re not going to get everyone on the host server, you have more flexibility getting onto the linked one.

And if that won’t work, then collectively decide on another server that will actually accommodate your numbers. Again, you said gems aren’t an issue.

My guild is split between a locked host server and a single link. While we were making our decision if we would call the host our permanent home, that’s when it locked (months back) and has had us separated and it’s out of our control. We’ve picked up even more members since then, on both the link and the host. We plan to move to the host if it ever unlocks again and consolidate our group. Gold/gems aren’t an issue.

You’re both right, it’s there to deter ‘bandwagoning,’ but it doesn’t stop it, and it hurts the players who want to stay with their own guild. If there were an exception to the penalty, such as transferring between the host/link or being given the option to move to the new link on the host, it would solve this, even if it still required the gems.

It hurts the entire mode of gameplay to cram people onto already full servers.

Coordinate with your guild and travel downward. Make a name for yourselves and push your server up. Stop thinking that T1 means the best tier. Have your ENTIRE guild join up on the linked server. Problem solved, especially if you say gems are not an issue.

It’s ridiculous that you expect Anet to open up a full server, and if you plan on finding a “home” as you say, then one week is nothing compared to months of gaming fun on a set server.

The definition of anti-bandwagonning is trying to find ways to deter players from jumping from server to server. One week is frankly too little. It should be a month.

And why is bandwagonning a bad thing? Because it stacks servers, creates runaway matches, and is no fun for the entire health of the game.

You need to let this go. WvW was never meant to be balanced. The devs themselves have said this many times over the past four years.

I think what you think I mean by balanced is not what I mean by balance. I do NOT mean by balance: equal numbers on each side, as in soccer, football, baseball, etc.

Balanced, as far as I am concerned, is a multi-faceted measure. It is the summation of many factors, population being among them, that create fair and competitive fights.

So, ‘balance’ is not just population.

But, I can understand how you might think this is all that I mean, as currently the massive disparities in population and coverage, which we have been discussing here, show clearly that this gamemode is neither balanced nor competitive in its current state.

That’s all on the players though. Asking Anet to parent when it’s within their power to remedy is like herding cats.

Until the players, guilds, get their act together, no amount of blowing up and rebuilding will fix the issue.

That said, with the dev response, this thread should die lol. It’s academic at this point.

Oh it’s not even that.

With queues on maps, most of your duellers are your map scouts, who dilligently watch the map, refresh and build all the siege, and sacrifice loot to alert the team to enemy movement.

If the OP is willing to sacrifice blobbing, spend hours building siege (paying for it too), refreshing it to make sure not even one ac disappears, and not getting any loot — then sure the duellers can go to OS and wait to get back in the queue again afterwards.

But know this OP, that’s all you’ll be doing. No zerging.

OP here. If not commanding a zerg, I usually roam. If you’re dueling on or right immediately next to an objective (skill range) then you’re not dueling right at all.
Obsidian Sanctum’s Arena was BUILT SPECIFICALLY for you guys. It’s a special place for special people where they can do what they want to their heart’s content.
If you’re dueling in open-WvW when that place is available, the only reason could be is that you’re either trying to sneak roaming in with it or you like to troll gank lowbies.

Strategically, there is no reason to allow an enemy player to live near an objective. If you were off in some corner of the map away from the roads, sentries, camps and yaks, it may be different, but when we see yak symbols constantly disappearing where the so-called “respected” duelers are doing their thing, that can’t be tolerated.

Seriously, what’s so wrong about OS or even guild arenas?

That can’t be tolerated? Wow.

This is why I want unique server-based WvW armour. (Different set for each server, 6+ months to get).

If you feel this way about one mode of the game (being acknowledged for WvW), think what you’d do for a complete set that identifies who you play for.

I’ve known and helped treat many with cancer, it isn’t funny and there’s nothing worse for me than having to give out certain prescriptions knowing full well the person isn’t going to be around long and for the loved ones to ask what’s it for.

Having dealt with your equivalent over here in the past month(s), if nobody has told you recently, thank you for what you do. It does make a huge difference to the family.

Legit had no clue about what you were talking about till Xikira explained, thought you meant the r word for someone who is a bit slow.

Also, I find the OPs viewpoint and many others here shameful in turning it almost exclusively into a female perspective only, it is not something that only happens to women. Just like domestic abuse is becoming more and more common against men yet is typically portrayed as something that happens to women.

Before someone jumps down my throat, no I don’t condone the behaviours being talked about by any gender and/or those who identify as apache helicopters against any other gender and/or those who identify as apache helicopters.

To be fair, I’d feel this way if any gender took offense. Yes, certainly have resiliency, but if it’s upsetting someone to have a word used, respect their experience and use another word.

Thankfully we are blessed with a sizeable vocabulary.
