Lol, I disagree. To ensure max participation and actually make winning a competition mean something, I’m betting the three league winners will get something pretty significant. My money’s on an ascended back piece because: it’s been asked for in WvW for a while now, most living story big rewards were some kind of back piece, and they have plans in the works to eventually allow everyone to get a WvW ascended back piece, so those screaming will be placated, and the winners of the leagues will have the benefit of owning one for a couple of months ahead of everyone else.

If it’s a skin or lame reward, I think motivating people to really push for their server in season two will be an uphill battle. I also think it may help spread out the WvW population for season two.

In addition, you should look at it this way, if people flee lower league servers to get into the top leagues, it opens the opportunity for people to move to those lower leagues and finish 1st or 2nd, rather than being in the top league and finishing 6th or 7th. Check your local.dat file in your gw2 folder. It’s your UI settings but it tends to grow in size and has been the culprit of many sound-related gw2 bugs. If it’s bigger than 15mbs, delete it and let the game restore it. You’ll have to go back in and reset you UI settings, but it has fixed sound bugs for me in the past.

Dani, it’s folks like you who are a great benefit from the leagues. It’s fantastic to read people say they came in for the achievements, but fell in love with WvW. Here’s hoping more of you are out there.

There’s nothing wrong with duelling in WvW.

The key is asking politely and letting people decide if they want to, and not whinging about it if they don’t care to.

For me personally, I don’t want to sit in a WvW queue for hours if I want a 5-10 minute fight within a map. Most folks are happy to oblige, but maybe that’s because I make it clear that the duels are about improving class skills for both parties, not an ego contest, so that both walk away from it gaining something — regardless of who wins.

I had a few nice duels with Deso folks when we were matched up. I posted that I was looking for duels in the official match thread, then people whispered me in game. I’d suggest adjusting your approach

I like the idea of having an upgrade to make gates as strong as walls. It should take a significant amount of supply (like walls) to complete though.

Golems used to be a thing used only when a tower or keep was impenetrable, and usually as a last resort because the costs were prohibitive. That’s not the case anymore, and frankly four superior rams at a gate can do pretty much the same thing, even with the defenders firing from within — and often so fast that allied forces can’t even get halfway there before the objective is flipped.

I don’t think we ever want it to become too tough so that each tower and fort becomes impenetrable — where’s the fun in that? — but at least make it a tiny bit tougher to get down that gate.

Ok the solution appears to be to deselect “remember password” and “remember username” … BOTH have to be unchecked … I’m now on day three with the same password, but you have to manually type in both (not copy/paste) each time you login. Hope that helps narrow down the bug for those working on Anet’s end.

Verifying that unchecking both remember username and password and manually typing it in appears to work. Same password works two days in a row now.

I scout and avoid the karma train like the plague. Thankfully my server isn’t really into the karma train thing. It’s just too mindless, I’d rather work on improving my skills.

When the walls go down if you’ve been manning the cat you do get wxp/xp. I have run/built catas to get the walls down on garrison and towers so many times solo, and each time the walls go down I see those blue wxp and yellow xp numbers. Not sure why you aren’t getting any. It’s different cap wxp/xp for actual tower though, but I’ve been on the other side of the map and gotten credit for the flip, maybe because I was part of the initial attack (and ran to start push on other tower to split our attack)? Dunno, will have to pay closer attention and report back.

Sometimes, with supply camps for example, if you were there earlier and you helped defend it, or kill off a few npcs to flip it but got chased off .. when someone from your team actually succeeds in flipping it, you’ll get a partial reward (because at some point you were there helping), no matter where you are on the map.

Pay attention to the details of the reward — it will usually say which objective flipped, and you can then look at a map and determine if you were there earlier.

Now this doesn’t mean every time it flips you get rewarded. It just means you get rewarded until it’s flipped once.

As for towers/keeps, you have to do enough damage (just like pve mob bosses) for it to register and give you a reward. If you just tap the gate a couple times, chances are the rest of the crew who stuck around behind will do more damage and subsequently get the reward. So no, you can’t tap a gate and run off and get reward, unless you do significant damage/contribute.

Staying inside the cap zone will reward you wxp. If you don’t stay within it, you won’t get the wxp.

It takes zero strategy/skill to run to a gate and die.

I think if people are going to do this, they SHOULD make auto spawn happen. They can do this easily by adding code that prohibits anyone who’s dead from opening up backpacks, using inventory, removing pieces of gear until you respawn. After five minutes if the respawn option isn’t picked, the game will either force log you out or you respawn.

And my main is a mesmer.

Many mesmer mechanics need a complete rework. I cant tell you how many times I have been stuck in a wall or gate rocks, trees, etc. not by choice, but by being stuck in it due to mesmer combat mechanics.

I always felt that portal should be an F5 skill for mesmers on a much higher CD. Still allow the existing portal utility “as is”, since it kinda balances out when it takes up a utility slot by reducing survivability or DPS, and make them both trigger cooldowns of each other so there is no possibility of 2 portals in a row fro ma single mesmer.

The line of sight mechanics in general are borked. I would like to see a following change to portal:

Range 0-600 no change
Range 600+ portals work only on direct line of sight.

How do you use it to flip a tower if you need line of sight? You effectively eliminate that in a keep, rendering portals useless in that regard. Can’t see through walls …. 600 range is severely restrictive.

No, I know how the mechanic works, I’m staying they need to change the mechanic. By intact, I mean that when a keep/tower has the walls and gates unbroken, Mes portal should not be able to port people to the other side.

Ah you made it sound like an exploit in your original post by saying gates/walls. It did work that way for a bit, but was fixed.

As for getting rid of the mechanic entirely? Naw, it’s one of the better utilities for a Mesmer. Taking it away after nerfing just about everything else (over the past year) would render the class useless. If people are too lazy to sweep or defend, they deserve the tower or keep flip. There are ways to counter. If there was no way to counter it, I’d say you have a point, but that’s not the case.

Mesmer portal is used for much more than just bombing and tower flips btw.

Taking away mesmer portal would be like taking away warrior shouts or banners or guardian heal/boon spells. Sure a warrior can’t hide and flip a tower, but I can’t as a Mesmer fight, get my health to 5%, and use a super speed boost to run away. And hide is the keyword here: meaning if you’re thorough, you can find them.

I’ve yet to die to a guard or warrior on my mesmer in a 1v1 situation (just saying ) and there’s so many utilities you can use in small groups as a mesmer, including tower ninjas.

I also spend 90% of my WvW time solo roaming/camp flipping/scouting. Mesmer is really resilient in small group play, and I find it tons of fun in big open field battles too.

I got Hills main gate down all by my lonesome during a T2 matchup in NA back when TC faced Kaineng and Dragonbrand …. including running the supply four times to build the ram. Flipping the keep itself? My record was 5 people in that same matchup. We just pretended we were delivering pizza

I’ve solo flipped towers, as have a number of people here, many times.

That said, OP, I feel your pain. I’ve lost out on cap points so many times I can’t count because I’m a slow, slow slooooww mesmer. I just wind up doing stuff like the above to get my points.

Edited to add: prior to the leagues there was an RNG matchup since June (?) where T3 servers would sometimes face T1 servers, and sometimes T6 would face T2, etc. It was interesting, but there was a lot of angst over population disparities. Those disparities still exist, but at least with a rating-ranked match, you have a closer population than say T1 vs T4.

This has nothing to do with email from Anet though and more about passwords constantly resetting. (I have yahoo email btw, and no issue getting email from anet).

Possibly the same way? It’s been implied that season two (if it happens) won’t happen until next year at earliest. That’s at least a month’s worth of matches (possibly longer) to readjust rating again.

That said, I really hope they revert to the old system of matchups when we come out of the leagues. The RNG, while interesting to test out, had so many detractors, I think most would be happier with the old system, even if it means the same opponents and traditional ladder.

Ok Anet support gave me a fix that seems to be working so far (knock wood).

They suggested unchecking “remember password” and “remember account name” and manually typing in both. So far, 24 hours later, the password remains. It just means you have to type it in every day (and I’m actually typing, not copy-pasting from a saved file), but it’s a bit easier than having to reset the password each day.

Hope that works for others here too.

Will report back tomorrow and let you all know if it continues to work. After 48 hours, I suspect it will definitively prove it one way or another.

The best thing about Piken is when we are getting our butts handed to us, it just makes our Russians angrier and the results from that can be pretty epic, lol.

That said, you can turn your map chat around by talking about something/anything else. Don’t like what’s being said? Change the conversation.

No dictatorship, no sanctions, no insults, no humiliations, never. The only little sanctions are for idiot/drunk/arrogant people on TS sometimes, but it occur 2-3 times in months, very rare. Sometimes when there is uncool things, i write a post on Grand Cross portal, say what i deeply think, and what we could do better. I listen all people everytime to correct problems too.

People who do not want to obey does not exist: they do not obey at anything because i/we never forced them. It’s based on the voluntarism, as i explained in the post before. There is a real altruism between the majority of us, and when sometimes there is problem people (insulting on map or doing kitten for pleasure) we try to focus on constructive things and help others. Sounds like an utopia i know, it won’t last forever, but i will remember it all my life !

This sounds good in theory, but in reality the winners are determined solely by coverage.

If rewards are significant, we’d see another kind of disaster:

One big guild would transfer to a server in Bronze league giving that server an advantage. Other guilds would then bandwagon into the same server. Pretty soon, you’d have one server that would faceroll all competition in Bronze league making the League more of a farce than it already is.

Same would happen in Silver League.

TLDR: Remember when Kaineng rose up from T8 because WM transferred there? Same thing.

Lol so in one part you complain about a coverage war issue, then the next you say bronze league will be invaded.

You see the problem here? I’m not without sensitivity to fears and what you cited, but this was at least an effort to get people to spread out more. And more players on the map makes for some exciting matches.

People need to stop thinking of league play as one massive unit and instead realize it was separated into three for a reason, mostly the division of coverage to make it an obtainable goal, no matter what your server rank. And mostly so the big rewards weren’t solely given to the top three, which would further stack those servers.

all I said was that giving awesome rewards for winning a league is REALLY dangerous (and stupid because coverage determines the winner).

The only way I see population evening out is:

(1) If players realize that with Leagues, stacking into just a few servers decreases the fun because you meet every other server anyway and all you’re doing by stacking is getting more faceroll matches (whereas before, T1 would pretty much always fight with at least one other T1 server).

(2) Queues get so bad that players move.

And by “evening out” I don’t even mean that every server has to have the same coverage — as long as servers that are within a few ranks have comparable coverage, that’s probably sufficient.

Yep. It’s probably why I prefer EU to NA. They have somehow managed to self-regulate and spread themselves out for the fights (you can see evidence of this just based on how close the ratings are between 3rd to about 15th ranked servers). Makes for some exciting matches.

And probably why I have no issue with the winners of the leagues (bronze, silver, gold) getting something awesome, even if my server can only hope to get second place at best.

I want there to be an epic reward for leagues winners. I think it can only mean good things for the second season.

Most of EU is karmatrains all the time too.

Not that I’ve seen and I’ve faced from rank 17ish and up. Every week seeing people fight right down to the last hour of the match. But I’ve only been in EU since May.

You have to understand in NA, two servers actually coordinate tower/keep flipping/location on map, so the enemy will find it vacant —- just to flip for loot like that Queen Jenna Pavillion, or the Orr karma trains.

SoR has already made it clear that they don’t want anything less than devoted people to their utopia of servers where the grass is greenest and the air is cleansed of any fart-lighting heathens. All those who fail this request are to be terminated via liquidation and forged into iron. On second thought, fart-lighters don’t seem so bad.

What server was GD on before they bolted back to EU after two weeks? Was it JQ?
