There’s no such thing as “actual people in the game” and that’s the whole point. Everyhing that happens in the game window is a metaphor including relationships since they have meaningless grounds. That’s just pixels on the screen, and opinions about pixels on the screen. At best, opinions about someone’s else ability to manipulate those pixels. Which is, well, OK, I don’t care. Why should anyone?
Everything else like adressing real people, talking about persons sitting behind the screen, is completely irrelevant to the game itself.

And yes, all the toggles were checked for adding whispers to the chat window, etc .. I hadn’t changed any settings in nearly a year, and this suddenly started happening yesterday for no reason.
So yesterday it seems something broke with my chat.
I can see the whispers I type to people, but I cannot see anything they reply back. I have run repair, and earlier that morning the whisper system was working fine, had a full conversation .. it was only a couple hours later that this started to happen.
I ran repair again today, and it’s still broken.
I will uninstall and reinstall and see if that fixes it. But just flagging you on an issue .. and letting others know in case you’re wondering why your friends aren’t responding.
No no, I mean while testing this … some of the bigger named guilds are all invited it seems. The result for their server’s maps while this is being tested will be interesting because they can’t play two places at once.
I’m still really confused as to why Gandara is going through all of this despite having done none of the above and no ‘best GvG’ guilds on it or near it.
Just reading this now (went to bed shortly after my last post). As for Gandara, not sure. What I think probably is happening is you guys had a solid smaller wvw core, and the bulk of your server was pve-based. With the introduction of the leagues and the WvW meta, all your players have suddenly come out of the woodwork?
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you invest in training/recruiting them while they’re on map. Vizunah did this, they embraced their pve crowd and made wvw inclusive — the result is significant, particularly if you’re facing them. If you can even retain 10%, that’s a significant boost to your core WvW numbers when the leagues are over, particularly if you’re seeing massive queues on your maps without any of the GvG leagues or recruitment posts.
This is the only mechanic in game that drives me nuts. I don’t mind thieves and stealth, I’ve managed to teach myself how to counter them. But the warrior that can come in, get hit with massive damage/do significant damage himself, lose health to 5%, and still bolt away even as many are chasing and using CC? It’s just a set up for trolling.
The magically fleeing warrior is the only thing that drives me batty in WvW.
I’ve had a ticket into Anet about this for two weeks now. Last message back from them “they had accelerated it to look into the issue further” and that was nearly a week ago … I have to reset my password literally every day now. Still no solution.
I thought I had a fix with it by not checking the “remember password” thing, but that appears to have been a temporary fix. I am still stuck with having to reset password every day. Would love an answer on this.

Recruiting guilds that WvW isn’t the problem. Stop saying it is. It’s never been the problem. Guilds that transferred to T1 servers did so weeks in advance of leagues. We didn’t have these kind of queues back then, but we do now. It’s not because of transfers.
I have sympathy for this SoR guy cause I’ve had the same problem in Blackgate, the least stacked server out of the T1 servers at the moment. 5 hour queue to get into a borderland. Have only gotten into EBG once after a 30 minute queue at around 3am PST. That’s NEVER happened before.
I’ve just been PvEing while waiting these days. Doing all these PvE stuff with my WvW gear isn’t fun.
All three T1 NA servers were madly recruiting right up to the start of the leagues, some even after it. And I didn’t say guilds only. These kind of threads attract tons of solo players as well. From Sept. 29:

Almost every server will see an increase in participation, and the top tier servers will likely see their wvw population at least triple overnight as everyone races to get their points done. Imagine three times the current numbers playing trying to get into the map? How long do you think the queues will be then? Heck, look how many turned out for Teakettle. As well, a lot of these pve folks will be geared in yellows and greens and (gasp) glass cannon builds that are used to NPC fighting.
Yes the map queues may be manageable now, but I suspect it will be at the very least patience testing for the regular WvWers and I anticipate thread upon thread of people screaming over this issue when the wvw meta achievement rolls out.

I actually have to come to the defense of my server mate on this one. Every recruitment post made by Sanctum of Rall has been directed at off-hours players.
As an off-hours player myself, I will tell you that I deal with no queues. There’s still plenty of room on SoR for off-hours players. There are always at least 2 maps that have no queues and the ones with queues (home bl/eb) are always under 5 minutes.
As he says, we’ve deflected almost every NA guild that has approached us about transferring here but we’ve been unable to stop fairweather players from moving to our server. His guild, like of most of our NA guilds, are being punished for playing good. It’s a terrible system…
The older thread appears to be a general recruitment thread, outlining how strong SoR is and encouraging people to join no?

This isn’t an attack, there’s no need for defense. I’m actually trying to outline why there’s issues now because there was a lack of consideration about the pve influx, when everyone had been warned about it weeks before the leagues started.
Go read that other thread. It appears to want as many players as possible, no matter what time they play.
EU silver league is a different beast though. All the top GvG guilds got together and decided to head down your way to avoid the queues. It subsequently attracted a lot of other players too. So while you may not have put up a recruitment post, they kind of did it for you.
Those threats are really looking for late NA/Oceanic players. We HAVE actually deflected away guilds who approached us first who were NA guilds. It’s not like we tried recruiting more :P

You do realize people see “NA” and have different ideas of what constitutes “late” right? You’re side-skirting the crux of the issue — which is you all need to get on the same page. Keep recruiting? Then you can’t complain about the queues. Stop recruiting? Then make sure everyone else knows this, too. Heck, even the other thread was bumped five days after the leagues had started — and we all know everyone knew by then about the queues.

The fact is, the moment Devon posted the above post in September, you guys should have circled the wagons and actually try to deflect any incoming players and guilds. That didn’t happen. The opposite did really. The “arms race” kicked into high gear with all the NA t1 servers instead.
It wasn’t hard to predict there would be this mass pve influx and resultant queues. It just took a bit of foresight.
The “avalanche effect” would have a more solid footing as an argument if those above posted recruitment threads hadn’t been constantly bumped, making it appear SoR still needed players. Both threads were bumped even after the leagues started up. Check the dates on them. Heck, one was even bumped today
Oh I personally have nothing against SoR (well maybe that one fellow who’s name starts with an i), I’m just saying these actions contributed to what you are experiencing now.
And we were all cautioned about it back in September:
I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.
I’m just saying you need to have a conversation with your server and all get on the same page.

Oh hahaha, that’s where SFR’s guys went. You guys really shouldn’t be talking about blobs, not after the masses you used to pour into the maps late at night, accompanied by multiple golems, with maaaaybe 10 Piken to fight at that time, lol. I still have the screen shots from those times because it was such overkill.
You create such insane skill lags so there is no point in engaging a blob where everybody just spams skill one and survives due to the massive numbers which mitigate the damage. We try to fight everything that is thrown at us but under certain circumstances its just pointless.

Actually, for the most part, EU players tend to leave two players fighting alone and run off to do other things. There have been countless times I’ve run past two players duking it out, sometimes I sit and watch, but more often I’ll just head off and leave them be. Likewise has happened to me duelling with someone else, most will leave you alone to fight it out. Must be a cultural thing.
That said, I agree, WvW isn’t meant to be fair. But half the fun is in outsmarting the enemy with fewer numbers.
No EU servers are stationed in EU. It used to be Germany, but have seen some say it’s been moved to France.
Yeah this lag bug has been around at least two weeks. I have two accounts, one on low tier NA and one on Piken. Seeing the same odd lag on both, and has been the case for two weeks now.
No. They’re about the same. Anet is having a bug issue with lag that came in with the last patch. You can scan the forums to see it’s happening everywhere. It’s not normally like this.
This is also due to the direct-fire shot, rather than an arcing show, making it impossible to hit targets up on walls.
Clearly you need to go hang out on Elona for a bit. They are scary-fast-building-pros at using ballis in just this manner. It’s like an off-broadway dance troop at times.

*BAM! five ballis are up, one guy does a pirouette.
*Oops, all your siege is gone, even as you’re running to it.
*Elona bows, leaves.
*10 minutes later the big big blob arrives (often with golems dancing towards your tower).
Naw I think it might operate like the holiday events where you can be with different servers on your “team” …. Overflow map right? Although I’m not sure how it would work to get your guild in on the same team. Guess that’s the stuff I’m eager to hear about from you guys that get in. Would love to be part of it myself as a “roamer.”
There’s very little attrition in the EU leagues. It also has a very compressed time of play. NA tends to be more spread out around the clock., including multiple time zones within NA itself.
Many of the top GvG guild went to silver league to avoid the queues, but that movement attracted a lot of players in addition, that’s why there’s queues in silver league as well.
Team wasn’t invited. I would be interested if ANY roaming guilds (never more than 5-6 people) get invited.
If not I give up all hope for this new map. It will just be blobby like the wvw maps if they only invite the blobby guilds who run their stacking 15-20+ zergs and feel pro all running right next to some leader spamming aoe and auto attacks.
I hope some roamers get let into the beta so that they can direct the direction of the map away from guilds like this who just blob and make wvw a skilless and no-fun environment.

Well I hope they will try and drive this map away from the “same old kitten” that anet seems to love. Aka. No 25 man guild blobs all clustered up and moving around the map in seconds to just blob everything they can.
This shouldnt be viable. They need to add skill to the combat by making roaming more viable. Which means bigger maps and more spread out objectives.
That’s not what the map is for though. This map is just an “overflow” waiting area while queued to get into WvW to fight. Nothing that happens on this map will contribute to the overall score, it will just be a place where all players can get in to play while waiting.
They are likely picking bigger guilds to test the lag/latency of real time fights and see if any of the area architecture has any impact, etc .. It likely won’t solve the zerg problem, unless they build specific architecture to thwart that.
Disagree. Can totally see maybe three T1-2 guilds transfer to a lower silver or bronze server, make it a sleeper horse and surprise everyone in next season. Likewise as word spreads about season one rewards, season two will see a resurgence of players trying to boost their server to top spot in the various leagues. It’s a compelling argument as to why a big big shiny reward would have resultant participation. Bandwagon too much and you risk not being able to complete the meta to get the key, etc…
In other words the winner is speculative. I think it favours a greater dispersion of players, something that’s been complained about a lot.
Eh, at the end of the day it’s really just a bunch of pixels right? And if your server didn’t win, it’s something to shoot for next league. And if you bandwagoned up, there’s all those queues — without completing the WvW meta and getting the key, you don’t get the chest at the end
Yes likely .. so they can know who you are and what guild you are in. I wouldn’t worry too much about that though.. likely they just want to know who killed them.
My main toon is called Bamby. I get a little chuckle over them grouping with me and seeing a Disney character just spiked them.
