I babysat an Augury Rock Mesmer who was at 90% healed at green keep eb watergate for two hours one day. He didn’t manage to flip the keep. I was the more patient one it appears. He finally gave up after three attempts over two hours by one of his teammates to rez him was thwarted.

While I’m ambivalent about this tactic, at least you can counter it, by being more patient than the Mesmer, and killing him or his buddies. It’s definately a pain though. However, if you value that keep, you better pack patience. If you leave, with the mechanic the way it is now, you have no one to blame but yourself if you lose it.

While I’ve used this tactic myself a whopping two times, I haven’t done it in nearly six months now. I’d much rather play hide and seek on my Mesmer. More fun.

Be more than glad to duel you. Have been looking for more volunteers all week. Just whisper me in game. I’m on Piken.

Click the enemy, type /invite. If they’re in a group, type /join.

I like to have pleasant convos with people when I join or am joined by one. Had a kid trash talking me last night, just remained pleasant, by the end of the convo we were both wishing each other a good fight.

Naw, I think it should remain a surprise. If it’s an epic reward they’ll have phenomenal turnout for season two —- including, I’d wager, guilds heading to one or two lower tier servers for a dark horse winner, etc…

I believe Viz was able to counter us so quickly in the first few wipes because they literally have been playing in nothing but lag for months now and are conditioned to deal with it.

You’ll notice we wiped a few times in the beginning, but after that there was a two hour battle in garrison. Our guys in there the whole time. Why? Because some finally adapted to playing in lag.

Anything else is disrespectful to not only Viz, but to the skill of our own players on Piken.

If you go into that other thread, I posted links from Devon from waaaay back at the beginning of September (you can see them here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Ensuring-rewards-are-fair). He indicated that the top of the Gold, Silver and Bronze leagues would get great rewards. So it’s a reason to get motivated and push for your server.

I will repeat what I said in that other thread. If they wind up giving the league winners some fluff like a skin or a mini pet, chances are season two will see a woefully lower turnout. However, if they give really great rewards to the league winners in the various tiers, then season two will see mass player involvement, a reason to push hard and work hard for their server, to win the shiny carrot at the end.

If you bandwagoned to a higher tier server to get the shiny carrot, then you are currently facing massive queues. It’s a trade off. But he did say that every winner of each league had the chance at something pretty good — so it didn’t necessarily mean Tier 1 gold league.

This is a competition. Everyone had equal opportunity to find a server that would suit them best for their needs. If the reward was the thing that motivates you, you had a week prior of either free transfers or discounted fees to move. If you preferred to stay put and play with friends, you had the chance to work hard for your server that way too. It is really all about choice, and Anet gave everyone the information they needed to make an informed decision for themselves.

You could change servers and guest to TC for your pve stuff. I mean if you’re not getting in now, you only stand to benefit on a server where you can get in. It’s not like you’re able to get in and play with friends as is … Y’know?

That’s your problem. Adjust your gear via armour and trinkets to get at least 20k. I run about 25k myself. And dodge is your friend through the melee train.

You have to be able to get hit a couple times to allow most of the mes spells to regen timer wise. Otherwise you just become a rallybot.

The Room on iPad is awesome.

Viz is incredibly disciplined. If they want a waypoint in your keep they will have 20 dedicated doly walkers escorting that poor beast in until it’s complete. I’m not even kidding. I’ve gone down many times to lake supply to try to stem the influx of supply into our hills on psbl, only to get trampled by no fewer than 20 guarding the camp and the dolyak.

Oddly enough had massive lag, meaning I couldn’t walk through gates/couldn’t even pick up supply with nobody around. We just had a two hour battle in an enemy’s garrison and there was expected large Zerg lag, but the debilitating lag happened for me about 15 minutes after that was over, was in an entirely different part of the enemy borderland (not eb), and no fights showing up on map. Really odd.

Ok incoming pix from that epic battle.

1. SFR to the left at outer garrison.
2. Viz to the right stacking and ready to jump down and hit our catas.
3-5: Inner lords room fight.
6-7. Everyone seemed to want to get on the roof
8. Someone dropped a shame ram.
9-12: About an hour into the fight, I saw these. It was a moment of funny in a pretty heated battle. No idea who did it, but made me laugh.
13: Me sadly after that deadly necro crew finally got me after two hours of constant fighting.

Fantastic fight everyone. Hope to see more like these before the week’s out. Mad props to Xerkulle who kept us all together. Well done everyone — Viz, SFR, and of course my fellow Pikeneers!

Yup two hour fight so far in Viz garrison, unbelievably epic (outside of the lag). That group of six necros parked by the mystic forge finally got me after third manic pass by them. Deadly, lol. Kind of proud of our guys, still in there smashing heads. Pix to follow. But holy smokes, heck of a fight.

Awesome fights on Vizunah BL yesterday evening. Epic moment was when Piken controlled redbriar + bay, and SFR greenlake. Vizunah pug raid was chillin’ around garrison.
“Hey, orange cross on greenlake, must be PS raid !”

“Ok let’s go for a free bay while they cap each other’s entrance tower”

In the meantime, get out there, support your server and help it gain as much as you can for this season.

By saying that everyone had the opportunity to change to a different server, are you not correctly identifying that anyone who plays wvw regularly knows that there are some servers which (for whatever reason) are never going to finish near the top of their tiers and therefore basing rewards on server performance alone, is inherently unfair?

I said it depends on what you value. If winning a big prize is important to you, and it was outlined quite clearly for almost two months now, you, your friends all had the opportunity to move. Even within your league. It doesn’t mean adding to the gold league arms race, because we are seeing people complaining that they can’t get in. It’s about making a choice that’s right for you.

Myself? I don’t really care what the rewards are at the end … in fact I’d wager most who regularly WvW see it as inconsequential. However, for some, they want that carrot, and anet gave plenty of warning for those who are so inclined.

Honestly if they wind up rewarding the winners with some kind of fluff, next season will offer no incentive for people to get in there and really truly fight for their server.

As has been discussed winning is only really representative of coverage so how is it fair that significant rewards are based on that?

If the brand new shiny is that important to you, then yes. If you value your ties with friends and just love playing the game with them, then no. The key here: everyone had a choice … In some cases to medium pop server, it didn’t even cost you anything.

Couple this with the fact that all this info has been out at least a month so everyone could make an informed decision … sorry, I think if the server that wins the league gets an ascended or precursor, good for them, I had as equal an opportunity to switch servers as anyone else.

Edited to add: you’ll also note he says that top of all leagues, bronze, silver, gold, will likely get better rewards than bottom of any league. So regardless of your league, it’s a reason to get out there and push for your server.

queuing times aside, if this is true then another huge mistake is in the offing.

I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.

A mix is actually optimal. But that takes experimenting to find what fits your play style. Some players are very effective in full zerker gear in WvW. But when you’re first starting out, I would recommend you spec to over 20k vitality (this goes for most classes). It will allow you to get hit a few times and not die, while allowing you to learn and improve. I personally run about 25k vitality with a few pieces of toughness gear too.

First up, fight at Briar about 4pm GMT (11am EST). SFR/Piken/Viz was a massive three-way at that tower

Second was big fight at NW camp, featuring another three-way @ about 6pm GMT (1pm EST) …. really guys you should at least take me out for dinner first!

Next up we got assembled a tiny golem army our commander efficiently got us to make, moseying our way to Bay. Managed to win that one at Bay (tough fight), but subsequent pushes into Garrison we wiped, good job defending Viz and pushing out not only us, but SFR who joined in the fun, too (last pix @ 7pm GMT (2pm EST) ).

(Note: I’m putting the times on these events so that people outside of EU can see what size/when the fights are happening).

The pve players from Piken have actually been remarkably good about jumping in and helping with little griefing going on in maps (at least not the BL’s haven’t been on EB much). I’ve watched them all rally to run and defend a tower or keep that’s being attacked, rather than just stand there. While they aren’t up to the same level of experience as some of our hardcore guilds on the server, it’s been nice to see them run to try to help. Could be because there’s not a lot of abusive chatter in maps about pve players though — so there’s a more willingness to help out and learn. Yes, there’s complaints about queues, but nobody is doing the finger pointing thing at the pve crowd. I’m hoping these pve guys venturing into WvW stick around and learn and grow and improve with challenges, maybe even join a bigger WvW focused guild and see why so many of us have fallen in love with WvW.
