That listed server pop has got to be population of people who at one time or another logged into the server. Cause even the PvE areas are not very populated on my server and we’re High or Very High.
One of the reasons for the Frost thing is to get people to enter zones other than Orr. And there aren’t even that many people in Orr.
I definitely think they’ll have to do this at some point. Couldn’t come soon enough for me. I’d much rather have queues than not enough people to play.
I would give actually playing WvW a chance. Its not like other forms of PvP. And you don’t really have to be good at PvP to play, have fun, and contribute in WvW.
I don’t know what server you are on but many servers have their own websites and communities that help people learn WvW. And most servers really need more people playing WvW. I’m sure they would welcome you.
If anything I think this highlights a sickness in the rating system.
Winning teams have an easy time staying on top of their bracket.
They have a hard time breaking through to the next bracket.I feel like there has to be some sort of artificial churn put in place just to improve the health of the ratings.
You are correct, except that doing so would also create some nasty blowouts.

I’ll never honor any kind of 2v1 agreement. I’ll also never complain about getting 2v1d on any map (especially the home borderland – that it what it is designed for).
That’s fine but know that your stance excacerbates such lopsided scores. And I was responding to someone who was frustrated with the lopsided score (or the world being all green – same thing).
I was going to post how to fix the lopsidedness of the match. But I’ve said it too many times before so I won’t bother.
Sorry to have to tell you but you will never be green in this matchup if you’re on DR. In fact I’d venture to say that you will never be green again. Unless Anet changes the way colors are assigned.

I acknowledge SBI has more worldwide coverage. Most of the map will be Green after NA overnight. We will beat you in points. Yet we continue to lose rating points so we three will be together for a long time.
So do something about it. I know you cannot stop the “overnight” capping. But you can control how you each fight when you are on.
You need to gang up on us. 2v1 us. Make it a two front war for us and a one front for you. Like a previous poster said, it seemed this happened last week and it was a glorious battle.
Over the weekend I was very disappointed. Every time I logged on, the world was mostly Green. I would just sigh. At one point I actually started gathering, lol.
This weekend, even though we were destroying you, you would keep attacking each other. You know what happens when you do that? We steamroll into your weak area because you are occupied with each other.
(If my post seems harsh, I’m sorry. I’ve been trying to get people to gang up on the dominant server for awhile and for some reason people don’t want to do it. It is not dishonest, underhanded or bad. It is good. It would be a positive for the game. It is the way Anet intended WvWvW to be. Comeon put the third W back in WvW.)
+1000 to the OP. This is the best way to correct imbalances (the only way imho).
In this case it’s not healthy to blame the playerbase, but it may be more constructive to question the system itself and find ways to improve it.
I could not disagree more. We, the players, can do nothing about the system. What we can do is control how we play the game. Anet may never be able to fix this.
Teaming up with another server does not mean being in the exact same location necessarily because yes, AoE becomes a problem and it would be much harder to control.
This is how it could work: Green is the dominant server obviously.
On EB: Easy. Blue and Red take their third and don’t attack each other along their common territorial border. Put all the pressure on Green from both sides. Make it a two front war for Green and a one front war for Blue and Red.
On Green BL: This is the key I think. Blue and Red each take their spawn tower and camp. Do not fight each other over the border or the south camp (or trade it back and forth). That means all Blue and Red forces can concentrate on one front. Green will be forced to fight on two fronts. It would also force Green players to come here from other maps to defend.
On Red and Blue BL: This is debatable. Initially it might seem like it would be best to stay out of each other’s BL entirely. But it might be better if Red and Blue would each take their respective spawn towers and camps to act as a buffer against Green.
We cannot wait for Anet to solve this, it’s not going to happen. Perhaps better rewards, more shinys, outmanned, etc. may help but the fact is when you are getting beaten at every turn, its just not fun and so less people log on and it becomes even worse, it’s a vicious circle.
If you have a lower population or varied coverage to begin with you simply cannot take on the dominant server. And then you have the other server hitting you in the back when you even try to do something against the dominant server.
Here is the solution: You’ve got to give your troops some victories. And the way to do that is for both of the non-dominant servers to gang up on the dominant server.
For some reason a lot of people think its underhanded or dishonest or something for two servers to gang up. That’s ridiculous. It is perfectly legit and in fact intended! Anet has said so themselves. It’s the reason there are three servers and not two.
Let’s face it, as said before, we know who is going to win the tier before the match even starts. But can they beat both servers at the same time?
In WWII, if the western allies and the Soviet Union felt they had to fight each other as well as Germany we would be looking at a very different Europe right now. Folks, it’s the early 1940’s, the dominant server in each tier is Germany, what are you going to do?

Not to be a party pooper but thats actually historically accurate. They’re cow corpses and they carry all kinds of nastiness. In historical sieges they used to catapult human corpses to spread disease.

I agree, I hate Portal. I wish they’d never have invented the thing. Especially wish they’d take it out of WvW.
How is it possible that we beat the other two servers (by a lot) in our tier yet we lose rating points???
Well I know how it happens – the Glicko system. But please, please, please do something about that. I know you aren’t going to do the ratings reset but change the math or something.
A server that wins its tier should NEVER lose rating points.

Yep, since they’re doing this, they also need to scale the defense fortifications. It shouldn’t be so easy to take down a tower/keep.
Dragon would be aweseome. I’ve never gotten to see a dragon because all I do is WvW.
It would have to be big and bad enough so that it cannot be ignored. And it would have to fly all around the map, not just stand in one place like the giant worm.
I destroy all siege plans as soon as I get them since they just waste inventory space.
Please at least just port to your base and drop the siege plans for your servermates who do care about WvW.
I thought of doing that yesterday, but they were all soulbound. I can’t even give them away.
If you double click it in your inventory like you’re going to deploy it but instead of deploying it, hit the little “drop” arrow next to your skill bar, it will drop it on the ground for someone else to pick up.

I dont understand why ppls are saying ‘’omg now necros will be owned even more etc’’
Because all most people can do is complain about class balance issues despite overlooking how good a class can be in another aspect of the game. Such as necros being able to get around supervisor buffs, make boon guardians cower in fear, improve overall group play, etc.
Because support builds get no love. Hopefully, that’s one of the March changes.
Tier 4 Upgrade: Hire Mist Security to install video cameras above your gates and breakable walls to show you exactly what and how many are attacking.
I’d level up a thief too if i had the time just to be able to eat my pizza while playing, having my left hand on 1 and 2.

WvW would be 1000 times better with balanced populations. Unfortunatley, I don’t think there’s a way to achieve that without eliminating the seperation of servers themselves.
hi johje, i just wanted to let you know my rig runs Asus Rampage IV Republic of gamers mobo, NVIDIA GTX 680, i7 Hexa-core 3930k, 16gb ram, and Intel SSD. These 4 parts costs almost $1800 already.

(But I’d need to know cpu, mb, video card that produces that non-culling play. I just got a better video card for my current computer and fps is better but culling is worse. Gotta have something to do with the actual parts or drivers or something.)
I agree with your sentiment. I’ve always marveled at how few a percentage of GW2 players play WvW.
Is SoS really having trouble fielding people in WvW? If so, WvW is in serious trouble.
There’s a difference between it “not being an exploit” and “working as intended”. Just becasue its not an exploit doesn’t mean it is working as intended. And I can’t believe that this is how Anet intended Keeps to be taken. Its just lame.
Solution: Remove Portal from WvW. Or at least make it so it cannot work through walls.
It has nothing to do with the math. It has everything to do with server WvW population. And that is probably not going to change.

Tier 1 is not balanced right now 3 days in and JQ is already winning by 40k points, sure us and SoR don’t belong in tier 1 anymore because we just can’t compete. We’re both tier 3 servers at best.
If you and SoR cannot beat JQ I don’t think any other server can at the moment.
And the answer to this post is for SoR and SoS to gang up on JQ. That is the only answer to server imbalance. That is how Anet designed it. That is the reason its a 3-way battle and not a 2-way battle. Anet has said this themselves.
And yet we, the players refuse to do it. (Watch I guarantee someone will respond to this with something along the lines of, “I ain’t going to be a part of no alliance. Blah, blah, blah.”)

Do you always run in a group? In the case of groups you have the benefit of the entire group’s damage working towards your claim of the kill. This also means that as a soloist, you aren’t competing against other soloists, you are competing with other full grps for a share. It is sketchy but its something thats been known in PvE (farming) for a long time.

Interesting thing happened to me. I got a better video card – and culling got worse! So I wonder if it varys by video card and driver, etc.?

This is the natural and anticipated result of the Glicko system.
And it is a bad thing that will destroy the WvW community pretty fast. And I can sum it up in one word. Stagnation.
<facepalm> First there were threads about how the rating system wasn’t resulting in competitive fights quickly enough or would simply fail to do so. Now that populations have stabilized and they have been proved wrong we have a different mindset predicting equal fail because the Glicko rating system is working as intended.
Thankfully people with these mindsets are not managing game development.

I hate portal – just do away with it entirely in WvW. I don’t use Veil, 90 sec is way too long to wait for a 4 second invis.

Remember all servers are in Texas, to my knowledge, so they could do this without real latency concerns.
They aren’t, the EU servers are in Frankfurt, Germany, so yes there would be latency / packet loss concerns.
So no, merging them is not a viable solution.
Something I’ve never understood. Why is it that Asia and Oceanic can play on NA servers without worrying about latency but Europe cannot?

Well I play a Mes and I am calling for a nerf to Portal.
Only to the fact that it can work through walls or otherwise inaccessable locations. Having to search for Mesmers in a keep is laaaaammmmmeeee. Sure its not hard, its just not fun.
And having Portals work through closed walls is stupid, it just doesn’t make sense that people should be able to port somewhere that they can’t get to naturally. No other skill in the game works like that.

I have to admit I’m a bit jealous (I’m on a different server) – this match looks like what WvW was meant to be.
To your original question: Absolutely, join in at any level. Know that you may die more than if you were 80 but that’s ok. Just have fun.
About the arrow carts: Zoom the camera all the way out and angle it so you can see the general area where you want to aim. You don’t need to be able to see the whole area. Just manipulate it so that the green circle is where you want it.
The stat bonuses the orbs provided were unbalanced. This was exacerbated by the stat bonuses stacking, and the fact that any team capable of capturing all three orbs already had numerical superiority (hacking notwithstanding). A numerically superior force with +15% to all stats is no fun to fight against, and for players like me anyway, no fun to be part of either.
When they figure out how to add them back in without leaving them open to hacks (those hacks are still there, it’s just harder and less rewarding to use them now as soloing a keep lord & guards is time consuming and dangerous) and without the imbalanced stat adds, but still make them strategically important somehow, then I’ll welcome their return. Until then, I’m fine with them being gone.
Lets be honest, if a server has the capability to take control os the 3 orbs, that doesnt make it an unbalanced mechanic, it shows that the other 2 server lacked the strategy and capability of defending their high value target. Simple as that. It like a chess game, if you don’t protect your king, you lose

You’re giving the already stronger team bonuses to make them even stronger. Its a snowball effect.
Now don’t get me wrong, I think they should bring them back in some form. Maybe let them grant some shiny bonus or something. That might draw more people into WvW.
It would be great if there were some way to do some of what you suggest. But we can’t even get people to do the easiest and obvious thing to have competitive matches – the two losing servers cooperate with each other against the dominant server.
