I would like to throw this out there for public consumption. Why not 2v1 Db?

This will do nothing to effect NNK-O’clock during the TFV timezone points, but it may help even out the off hours. Also it will really test our other times. I personally think Mags NA coverage can match up against us, I dont know about SBI.

Because it’s a useless tactic unless it affects the score. SBI is a NA primetime server mainly. No matter what we do our towers and keeps are going to get taken while we’re not playing. There’s no reason to cut our potential for fights in half during the small window each day when we field a reasonable sized force. We can’t really affect the overall score so it doesn’t really matter to us, we just want to kill both of you when we’re online.

I’m on SBI and respectfully I have to disagree. 2v1 is an absolutely useful strategy. It is the only strategy that makes any sense in a match like this.

In fact, it worked on reset night. On DB BL Mag went up their side, SBI went up ours. We had great fights. We took Hills, we took NE tower, we got to within a hairs breath of taking their garrison. This would absolutely not have happened if Mag and us had been fighting with each other in the south. But fortunately we both seemed to recongnize this.

The same can work on EB. Our BL is a little different.

It is going to be the way we are going to have fun this week. DB can fill all 4 maps. We cannot fill even 2 maps. I’m not sure about Mag, somewhere in between I’m guessing.

If we and Mag insist on fighting each other and delving deep into each others territory, DB can have free reign to do whatever they want. If we play smart and don’t fight in DB BL south and don’t mess with each other constantly on our mutual border in EB then we can have great fights, take points and most importantly have fun and feel like we’re accomplishing somethig and not get demoralized.

I’m on SBI and been here since launch and been there for all but a few resets. And this was one of the most fun resets I’ve had – top 5 I’d say. We did well. And congrats to all SBI who were out there and fighting the hard fight. There were good fights, we got wiped, we wiped the enemy.

We were ticking over 200 at one point last night. We had our third/half of DB BL for most of the time I was on. We were holding our own in EB it looked like – getting pushed back at times but then rebounded.

I understand our home BL had it tough – but that is the toughest map to hold. And whomever was on that map, did an awesome job from my perspective. It looked like we held the two northern towers most of the time. And this is against the #5 and #7 rated server!

Moses and anyone else who feels overmatched, please don’t quit, we need you.

While theoretically that is a great idea. Practically it will hurt more than it will help, as the hypothetical t7 server will have a better score than it should, which will result in more mismatched fights int he coming weeks (due to the system and not randomness).

Lets face it, the t7 server is going to get crushed in score no matter what.

But it doesn’t have to be a morale killing crushing. There can still be good fights doing what the op said. I support it 100%. If this situation occurs in my NA tier, I will do everything I can to make it happen.

Don’t feel sorry, it will just be boring, because I am not inclined to even bother spending time in WvW when we are so thoroughly mismatched. Both Piken Square and Riverside can field mor people on 1 map than we can on all 4 combined. I will be PvEing this week. Maybe A-Net can get it right next week.

This says it all. I liked the small fights we had the last 2 weeks. Now its just big blobs against a few of us. If you already check the maps, u can already see the outcome of this match-up.

P and R, don’t grind GH into the dust. Don’t zerg them down. If you all have people on your servers that like to do small group (like so many posters say), just have the small groups go over to GH areas.

This could be the start of something great – smart play to produce the most fun.

I’d imagine it’ll take some time with the new system for the scores to adjust enough for more varied pairings to occur. Give it another week or two, then we’ll see where we’re at.

I could definitley see some of the matchups being the same but not all. I’m no statistics guru but that seems extremely unlikely.

They weren’t all the same, just mostly. If you look at the numbers on MOS, you can see that the ratings changes were more drastic than usual, some of the servers lost 30+ points and others gained 30+. With the old system you were likely to only receive 20-30, tops, in either direction, with the average being close to +/- 20-25 (excluding outliers and eyeballing it).

Oh, by the posts, I thought it sounded like they were all the same. But still that stinks if most were the same. Unless of course the servers wanted to be the same, which sounds like T1 NA do so they have some hope.

Fingers crossed for the SoS CD and EB matchup that we earned glicko wise. Its been 2 months of this same CDvsSoSvsSBI battle. If this new random gives us the old matchup i think some are going to go insane.

Yeah, I’m on SBI and I would prefer SBI-BP-AR than another week of the same too. But if they do get the change in for NA, who knows, we could still be together.

If the players would learn how to play to minimize the lopsidedness of the matches then things would be much better.

I am hoping that this new system causes people to stop “playing for second” to avoid going down a tier. Because essentially tiers no longer exist. Your next match is not soley determined by your rating.

So there is no reason for S2 to focus S3 to avoid dropping and vice versa. They can both do what they should – focus S1.

Personally I do not mind the zergs nearly as much as I mind that the game seems to have set the skill cap one notch above ‘dreadfully easy’ and seem content to leave it there.

Some commanders yea they are using skill and tactics, no question. Some of the siege placement guru’s, yea they are using tactics as well. The map PPT strategists, I appreciate their skill. So if you have all those on a map at the same time that is what 5-10 people using skill and strategy while the rest follow them around like sheep spamming their tagging skill of choice?

This game is designed to be played on auto pilot while you watch TV. I cannot think of a game that has as low skill cap as this one, granted I haven’t played hello kitty island adventure.

Its so unlike DAOC…for example, once we had 7 in group and asked some lowbie cabalist to join. At MMG, our sorc casted perfect mezz on about 20 mids, and while we were preparing to pick and kill them 1 by 1 as usual, trigger happy cabalist casted his weak AOE dot on everyone and basically gave mids free purge.
That guy had his pvp career finished at that moment, except for pugs…here, noone even notices if you do dumbest of dumb things

Not sure what the point you were trying to make Niim but you have hit on the reason things are the way they are in GW2.

Anet did not make WvW only for the serious hardcore people who like to fight PvP and destroy their opponents and loot their body and make them run halfway across the world naked like that one game – and if you aren’t good enough you are excluded. The entire philosophy is for the casual to be able to participate in WvW. They didn’t want someone to “have their pvp career finished” for a mistake or error.

And that’s why its good. Everyone can find something to do in it.

Regular AC’s are not op. They can still barely do damage to an army and don’t do much to slow down an attack. Unless of course you have 12 of them like what certain people were complaining about. However, I have never seen 12 ac’s set up in my tier.

There is definitely a difference between higher and lower tiers opinions on this matter. Just the other day, we had 4 ac’s set up and they did kitten to defend agains a golem rush. May as well have just sat there and not built them. This was in a T3 fortified gate.

They need to make AC’s damage Golems more. Or make Golems damage gates less (which is my preference). The rate at which golems can melt even a fortified gate is rediculous. You may as well have a bunch of Quaggans stacked up in the archway.

If it’s numerous golems than yeah of course they’re gonna rush through a gate. I don’t really see the problem. Golems cost a boatload of supply to build but they really aren’t that difficult to take down., more requires persistence and focus on the golems. But if there are a lot of them rushing you than I think it’d be pretty difficult to overcome them by design.

Except that you can build them at a supply camp, waypoint them, and then port them right to the gate.

Funny I was about to say they need to re-buff the nerfs to the buffs to the nerfs to the original AC’s from beta.

AC’s are worthless again. With the speed Golems can take down even T3 gates, AC damage to Golems needs to be re-buffed.

Fanboy!!!. Any normal mmo when they find a problem like this (Siege is basic for wvw) they just tunr off the area, map, etc… till they fix it, and normally they fix it in a few hour no a few days. This is just the lack of respect that anet has toward the wvw community.

And funnily enough I would actually think that people would whine even more if they turned off WvW. WvW is still very much playable, it just focuses more on open fighting than taking towers.

Different games have different code-structure, and also different issues and therefore takes different kind of time to fix. Quite logical.
Personally I have seen quite a few other MMOs where issues that made certain content in the game completely unplayable have been left into the game until the next big update.

Seriously, you must be trolling Nuvo. Did you see the epic crying and whining that ensued when the made a change to a single piece of siege?

Imagine what would happen if they shut down WvW totally. The crying would flood the entire internet with enough tears to crash the entire modern world communication grid.

I kinda like this idea. Now of course the people who don’t even like structures or siege won’t like it. And there will be epic QQing if this ever did happen. Maybe only on the lower tiers.

One thing PvE is missing is missions. This is kinda like missions. It could give a smaller guild something to do in WvW. And help out the server at the same time. And split up the zerg.

Having said that, I do favor a manual matchmaking system. Yes, it would cause all sorts of QQing because there would be a human to blame instead of saying, Oh well, its just random.

But a human can better make the matchups that would be more balanced and interesting than any math or computer can. That’s why Anet should secretly make the matchups manually. But don’t tell us.

No longer can you use the excuse of fighting for second to avoid going down a tier – because it doesn’t matter any more. That is not what will determine your next match.

If SoR is matched up with FA and DB, then FA and DB should gang up on SoR. If they fail to do that and get blown out, its their own fault. It would be bad strategy to not gang up on SoR.

Now if its two T1 servers vs. a T3 server, then hopefully, the T1 servers choose to fight each other rather than both stomping the T3 server. I mean people complain all the time about not being able to find a fight. Well find the fight instead of picking on the weaker server.

Even if both FA and DB pushed SoR, they would still lose the match just from off hours coverage. Time zone WvW population inequity is the root of why matches have not been consistently competitive.

I realize that. And that cannot be helped.

What is important is to maintain good competition while players are on the field. And if you can turn T3 keeps to T1 and help out your low coverage times even better. And teaming up will assist that endevor.

Why would you complain about this?!?! This is great! Some matchups will be roflstomps, fine. That’s better than facing the same two servers for 3 months. Especially when that 3 month matchup has the exact same outcome every week! I’d love to get my kitten kicked by someone.

Locked tiers were terrible, we need the variation to get some true ratings. They can fine tune the variation as we go along, but this is an excellent way to start. Two HUGE thumbs up from myself, and judging by the reaction on our server forum that goes for all of EBay’s WvW community too. I’m fairly sure AR and BP share our sentiments as well.

Yup. Went thru one of those 3 month match ups over the holidays and new years time period. Completely killed any desire to do it anymore. Had suggested this wayyy back then. Pretty much to late for me. Tried to dip my toes back into WvW a few times since the March update. Just don’t care anymore. Maybe one day, but only went in 3 times since March, when I used to be in almost nightly. Even sadder since GoM been doing good. Just can’t get into it…

Do you play the same toon all the time? Have you tried starting a new toon and taking them right into WvW. That makes it much more interesting. I alternate toons all the time. When I get bored with one, I jump on another. The different playstyles make WvW seem like a different game.

Human element will ruin this system.

2 T1 servers get placed against a T2 or heaven forbid a T3 server, that T2/T3 server is done and packing it in within the first 24 hours. Without constant representation the system will give erratic ratings, a server like Maguuma may lose by 300k to an SoR/JQ and comeback the following week to crush HoD by 300k.

It’s balance vs variety, I prefer balance but I am up for giving variety a chance. It will be nice to not lag for a change.

This may be a good social experiment.

If our base animal instinct is dominant in determining what happens yes, what you imply might happen. If we use ony our lizard brain then the weak may be devoured.

However if the higher human elements can rise and the logical mind take control and determine the strategy, then we may find some very good matches.

I’m always the optimist so I’m looking forward to this change.

I don’t understand the latest conversation. Why would moving a fairly large NA guild to SoS (an Oceanic server) be a bad idea? That is exactly what SoS needs – NA people. Its a good move for the guild and a good move for the server.

SoS is leading because CD and SBI cannot keep up with the Oceanic times. Sure they may be leading even more with more NA presence. But to compete well in T3, they are goning to need that NA presence.

(I’m on SBI and would welcome more people moving here to my server of course but I’m not going to criticize someone for moving to a server that makes sense for their guild. I say welcome and I hope to get to meet them in battle.)

The Charr have already WW-I tanks in GW2, why should we get outdated artillery in WvW?

Yeah, I’ve been thinking that they should just scrap the yaks and make the supply be carried by mechanized cart (or tank). And you’d actually have to kill the guards driving the thing to stop it.

That would be much more fun and interesting.

Looks like Cd isn’t the only one to get a guild transfer yesterday. ORL from BP has began the process of transferring members to SoS just last night, although we don’t have the 300+ that KWBH has, we should be looking at 150+ coming in the next few days. We look forward to fighting KWBH and the other servers during NA primetime. Once again thanks to the SoS community for being so welcoming, we also enjoy the 3 servers unique play styles! You all have definitely brought our interest back into WvW as it was getting dreadful in tier 5. Best wishes to all servers involved in this tier gl and have fun!

Sweet! A good three way battle is shaping up here. Just don’t everyone attack the weaker side please, that makes it so boring.

Zergs are always guna happen, they are just loot bags for decent guild groups and good PvP’ers. Ive not said a word on the arrow cart buff since the buff as i wanted to give it a while and see how it really affected the game.

Well 90% of people are right, what the kitten are you thinking Anet? Like seriously i lead a guild of serious WvW players in almost every evening. Most pug zergs now run away from us in open field and only other serious guild groups engage us. This never used to be a problem as when they ran into a tower or keep through skill and determination we would get the door down and bask in some well deserved loot.

Well since this buff any bunch of idiots can jump on a bunch of arrow carts and push us away. Sure towers arent so bad but spending 4 hours hitting hills inner which is solely defended with arrow carts and mortars is impossible.
Why bother becoming a good player at this game when a noob can jump on a arrow cart and be pro. Ive heard of 6 very serious WvW guilds leave this game since your stupid patch and im sure many more will follow.

If they couldn’t deal with arrow carts without quitting then they weren’t very skilled or serious. When the going got tough, they quit.

On a more important note. Cd just received a big guild via transfer, for their NA time zone. Welcome KWBH. Large NA prime time Zerg, with EU coverage according to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/large-guild-looking-to-move/first

Is that why the battles have seemed better and fiercer very recently? I’m having a great time fighting CD, we (SBI) seem to be pretty evenly matched NA prime time. Y’all might even have the advantage.

But if KWBH is not even moved there yet, SBI we better prepare ourselves, ’cause its going to get tough out there!

Handily so.

Servers are locked in the same matchups right now because those are frankly the closest matches to “fair” that can be achieved with how different server coverage’s are.

If DB were to fall to tier 3 next week, and the tier 4 winner were to move up to tier 3.
I can tell you we would almost certainly win by a margin of 100,000 points or more.

I think it depends on the Tier and the server though. For example T4, CD and SbI may not be much better (or heck any better) than T5 EB, BP and AR. We just don’t know because we’ve never gotten to play them.

Hopefully, the way they form matchups will give people incentive to start to play WvW the way it was intended. If people do find themselves in a match where one server is clearly dominant, the two weaker servers will join forces against that stronger server. Because hopefully they way they do it the loser doesn’t have to worry about getting kicked out of their tier and going to a lower tier necessarily and being stuck there for who knows how long.
