Asuras Jumping Powers.

JohnLShannonhouse.1820

How far a creature can jump depends on its structure, not its size. Two creatures of the exact same proportions will be able to jump the same distance. You can prove this by a sraightforward physics calculation:

The distance jumped will be proportional to the energy of motion divided by the mass of the creature.

The energy of motion will equal the force of its muscles used for jump times the distance over which the force was applied.

Muscle strength is propotional to the cross-sectional area of the muscle.

The distance jumped is proportional to the contraction length of the relevant muscles.
Assume 2 creatures of equal proportions. One creature is twice the length, width and depth of the other.

The larger creature will have muscles 4 times as strong (twice the width, thus 4 times the cross-sectional area). It will impart this force over a distance twice as long as the smaller creature (it is twice the height). Therefore, it has 8 times the energy motion.

However, since all the dimensions of the larger creature (height, width, depth) are doubled, it will have 8 times the mass.

Therefore, the distance jumped will be the same even though one creature is twice the height of the other.

If they can communicate concepts and ideas and plans in a subsonic level and speed, why are they even talking to each other like we do, with words of the common tongue?

You are assuming that they can communicate the same concepts in both modes of speech. Furthermore, animals that communicate by sound do so extremely frequently when in contact with one another. This may be a form of social grooming (human equivalent is remaining friends or on good terms with neighbors and family). It could be that the ultra-fast communication is not good for social grooming, or is a different kind of social grooming.

Imagine an alien asking, “If humans can rapidly communicate their emotional state to other humans by facial cues and posture cues, why do they ever bother talking about how they feel?”

There is a skritt NPC that sais asura thoughts are too “linear”. That backs up the multiple view theory.

To be fair, that skritt’s argument was that chaos refuse that turns skritt inside out is a good thing to have. That doesn’t strike me as one of the outstanding examples of the skritt race’s potential intelligence.

You are making at least 2 assumptions that may be false:
1. What is the risk:reward ratio? In animal populations where males keep harems, alpha males often have short, brutish lives before being killed or staving defending their territory. This makes them “stupid” in a way. Males attempting to become alpha males often die trying, making them “stupid.” However, from a population standpoint, the highest mean fitness are those who attempt to become an alpha male because, for the often short period they are alpha males, they have so many offspring.

What are the skritt expecting to get? What are the chances one will die?

2. You are assuming a skritt cares more about its life than what they are attempting to gain. Certainly, the norn and asura races care a lot less about personal safety than they do about their own accomplishments and reputation. If the skritt are content to risk death so long as they gain knowledge/resources/etc., then they are acting intelligently.

For a human example, think of all the charge leaders in battle across human history. Leading a charge in a battle is one of the “stupidest” ideas ever. However, this assumes that the person’s top priority is staying alive. Genghis Khan implemented pension plans, death benefits and sharing spoils with soldier’s families rather than soldiers in order to make them braver. This apparently worked. This suggests that even humans don’t necessarily consider their own lives important compared to social considerations. What was holding them back is what would happen to their families if they died, not their own fears of death.

I’m not opposed to the character so much as the fact that she popped up out of nowhere, and she’s ridiculously overpowered. I mean come on, graduated ALL of the asura colleges? That’s a bs backstory if I ever saw one.

She did not graduate any of the colleges, actually. Some of the Living Story developers gave an interview where they clarified that Scarlet never completed any course of study anywhere. She would go, learn what she wanted and leave. This made her regard herself as a genius, but many she worked with regarded her as a talented hack who only acquired superficial knowledge and thought she had everything figured out. You can get this from “What Scarlet Saw” if you already know it, but the authors did not make it clear.

The problem is not how we get karma. The problem is that your intended goal is to get a new legendary fast. If you want something that requires lots of a specific resource, you need to farm and it gets grindy.

I am sorry there are no high-yield methods of karma acquisition you enjoy. There are certainly a lot of methods to get it fast: low level fractals, renown hearts, dynamic event chains, assorted activities, world bosses and probably others.

For the old method of daily 4500 karma jugs, karma had become a joke. I thought nothing of spending 100k karma. Now karma means something. You need to think about spending it.

How is one tower with some strange magic populated by a faction of krait and a faction of the Nightmare Court a larger threat than an entire human kingdom with a professional army? The centaurs were already afraid that they would be destroyed because of the human-charr cease fire and peace treaty would allow the humans to turn more force towards the centaurs. Scarlet seems the be the personal nemesis they are talking about, but to our knowledge she is not involved in many of the Living World episodes:

Flame and Frost – deeply involved
Secret of Southsun – no evidence of involvement
Dragon Bash – involved
Cutthroat Politics – almost no evidence of involvement (one fight with Aetherblades doing ordinary pirate work)
Queen’s Jubilee – deeply involved
Tequatl Rising – no evidence of involvement
Super Adventure Box – no evidence of involvement
Halloween – predates Scarlet’s shenanigans, so not a fair comparison

Krait and Nightmare Court

in Lore

Posted by: JohnLShannonhouse.1820

JohnLShannonhouse.1820

Okay, there are several possibilities:

The Krait are using Nightmare Court slaves. The NC slaves might have arranged their own capture for NC ends.

Scarlet or someone else in the NC offered the krait something they really, really wanted. For example, the Krait Orb.

An outside force manipulated the krait Obelisks and told them to work with the NC. Alternatively, the Obelisks told them to work with the NC.

The lore page states the krait feel superior because they are undefeated. The Pact came and beat the unbeatable Zhaitan, and now the krait feel threatened. They were driven out of the deeps by Bubbles, and they think they can take from the land races something that will allow them to kill Bubbles like the Pact killed Zhaitan.

Nothing above is inconsistent with krait lore. Maybe ANet will not go that route, but it is perfectly possible to arrange cooperation without defying lore.

Some kinds of creatures never appeared as risen, as well: nearby moas and fireflies (although corpse flies were sort of risen, or maybe just risen-fed flies). I never saw risen dredge or risen skritt or risen trolls or risen ogres (but there are branded ogres). How was Zhaitan’s corruption blocked? Do different elder dragons corrupt different things?

2. The Seers and the Mursaat and their relationship with Abbadon. GW-Prophecies suggested the Mursaat were enemies of Abbadon, yet there was a Mursaat statue on the Vizier’s Tower.

3. What happened to the Forgotten? They seemed to worship the human gods, too. They used human magic. Are they still in the Crystal Desert? What about the former Realm of Torment?

I rarely use charr because my mains do not happen to be charr. I find the running on fours legs in jumping to be annoying because I cannot see when their feet reach the edge (this is a problem with many light and medium armors, as well). However, I play all races.

Engineers are interesting. I don’t play them as much for the same reasons I don’t play warriors, elemetnalists, thieves or necromancers much. My three mains are my guardian, ranger and elementalist. I only log so much play time.

I dont understand why there are so many (permanent) titles for playing PvP/WvW and so few for PvE. I mean why cant we have titles in PvE for playing our profession or killing different types of enemies or participating in different events.

There are a lot more titles in PvE than any kind of PvP. Maxing out PvE titles is usually easier, as well. The slayer tab alone is about as many as sPvP or WvW, only a few types of PvE enemies even exist in WvW and as far as I know none in sPvP. Add to this the explorer tab, the dungeons tab, the jumping puzzles tab, the bosses tab, etc. Not to mention how much faster it is to get something like weapon master in PvE compared to PvP.

I always found that a curious statement given that a quarter of Charr society apparently allows Shamans to rule them. Of course, I suspect any good Charr would resort to the No True Scotsman fallacy to answer that. Or maybe they think the average Charr in Flame territory is waiting for a Glorious March to Havana to liberate them.

Anyway, I think it is great for the story the Charr so despise those to whom they can thank for everything they have, call the ones they betrayed traitors and cannot suffer any Charr so ignorant they do not agree with the 3 legions.

You can turn that question on its head:

All the Charr territory we see was reconquered by the Flame Legion. Until they aided the defeat of Zhaitan, all the great victories of Charr society were by the Flame Legion. About all the other legions had to show for anything was the construction of the Black Citadel.

A legitimate question is would the Iron, Ash and Blood legions be allowed to rejoin the society they left?

No, we negative commenters find what she did as portrayed in the short story – as well as her lack-of-depth characteristics – to be rubbish to lore. Those things are canon; they actually happened. Which is where the problem lies.

Iakdav (his later posts), Seven Star Stalker, Evans, Thalador (whose second post was directly alluded to in my post) and Eluveitie seem to accept Scarlet’s version of reality as ANets. This was evident from more posters than Mary Sue accusations*

Something I am getting from a lot of these comments: negative commenters seem to assume whatever Scarlet says in canon and she is right about everything. In Scarlet’s view the Arcane Council are fools for calling her thesis “unsubstantiated rubbish” and the commenters assume Scarlet is right and then wonder why she could figure out what the finest Asuran minds never could. What they fail to consider is that maybe the Arcane Council is right, maybe the finest minds of the Asuran colleges who worked for decades in these fields understand them and Scarlet is too arrogant or too in love with her thesis to see its flaws.

Just because a character is talented or intelligent doesn’t mean the character is correct.

According to her, she saw the fate of all Sylvari, which was what ticked her of. But that’s impossible because we now know that Sylvari extend beyond the Pale Tree and have other origins.

This means Scarlet does not actually understand what she thinks she understands. That is not a contradiction in lore. That is arrogance on the part on a character that has arrogance in spades.

I was, however, unaware of any non-Asurans in the colleges. I will dismiss being wrong about the Asuran part for the same reason I would be wrong about a priest of Dwayna being Human or a leader of the Nightmare Court being Sylvari.

As I said “I am still trying to figure out which Synergeticist it is, though, but I think I am right.”

This is not true. I have rarely been unable to find a group within 15 minutes for any dungeon I have wanted to do. There are popular paths that can be done extremely quickly with high rewards, but all paths are done.

Oh, and sometimes those paths that I was unable to find groups for are popular. Just Saturday I was unable to find a group for Fractals 12, 14, 16 or 18. Me, I personally cannot stand her, from what I have played in the story so far. She is never wrong, always right, never doubts herself and doesn’t have any flaws or notable personality past her job as a hard-working Lionguard. She even blew up a ship (granted, no people were harmed, but still, a ship) and it was okay. Even her prominent trait, being very dedicated to her job, isn’t played out in any negative way at all – it would be very interesting if she actually collapsed from exhaustion or something from working long hours and not getting enough rest. But I digress.

We only see her at her job. A lot of people look pretty close to flawless at their jobs in real life (IRL) and don’t seem to have much personality at their jobs IRL. Most on-duty police officers I have talked to have practically no personality which I am sure does not reflect what they are like off-duty.

As far as blowing up the ship goes, she waited an awful long time to do it while riots were happening everywhere and she was not alone in that plot (someone else destroyed the other contracts). I look at this as akin to what Roosevelt threatened to do in the coal strike of 1902 (he forced an agreement so the nation would have coal for the winter by threatening to take everything from both workers and owners if they did not come to an agreement). Sometimes in a crisis, the rules are broken to avert things getting much worse.

I would not like it if Kiel were being given responsibilities despite showing incompetence or was constantly yammering about her personal problems while on the job (looking at you, Destiny’s Edge). She has definitely NOT shown herself to be a savvy negotiator compared to Evon, if that makes you feel better.

I have no reason to dislike Kiel.

That Ash Legion Charr lady is standing at the north gate alone.

What causes it to get stuck when this happens? How do I fix it? Note, I have usually just liberated Sapper’s Delve and/or Bloodgorge when this happens. It is not that the event chain finished and is waiting to reset.

This “meta” is most useful on a few paths of a few dungeons. Some paths are difficult to make work that way. There is plenty of room for all of what you mention elsewhere. Also, what Nike said.

Now, what people mean by “efficiency” is the key question. I can say that 3 guardians and a wells + condition damage necromancer stacking up running support and drawing enemies to corners are nigh invincible in most situations. Invincibility is pretty efficient in that your encounters have 100% success. It is not as FAST as all-out DPS. However, if you want speed, then you must either skip content and/or go all out DPS because DPS causes enemies to drop faster.

DPS run perfectly will always result in faster runs in any game because high rate of damage = enemies drop faster = shorter battles. That does not make other strategies inviable or useless. If something goes really wrong on an encounter for an all-out DPS party, it is unlikely to survive like a heavy support and condition damage party will survive things going wrong.

[quote=2480476;Algreg.3629:in no way relevant as long as you cannot bring up a convincing argument why PvE players SHOULD have easy access to everything.[/quote]

Straw man.

PvE players are not asking for access to everything any more than WvW players are. PvE players are not asking for WvW achievements, sPVP or tPVP achievements or more ways to earn Glory. A large portion (maybe a majority) of PvE players want a hard split between PvE and PvP.

I would say a many if not a majority of sPvP, tPvP and WvW players want the same thing. When I was running in WvW to get my 500 badges for the Gift of Battle, Commanders talking on the Blackgate Teamspeak made no bones about not wanting people coming into WvW maps to do PvE and creating queues for people who wanted to WvW (however, I cannot help but wonder how many of their avid WvW players came from PvE’ers who would never have tried WvW without the mapping and Gift of Battle requirements).

ANet, I think, is slowly being dragged in this direction. It used to be impossible to do monthlies without WvW, and quite difficult to do dailies if you only WvW’ed. That is changing. Now I did not have to go into WvW to get my badges (I resent all the time I spent running in WvW for badges now). It was the same with Faction in GW1 and early GW1 PvP.

It is a tie for 2 issues for me:
1. An enemy runs past your cursor and the screen and you re-target to them. Extra annoyance point because often I clock on an opponent and as many as five skill #1 attacks go off before I re-target to the one I actually selected.

2. Skills the queue dodge after skill completion. Let dodge interrupt anything else I am doing!

Other annoyances happen, but none happen as often as the two mentioned above and both of the ones above can easily result in your defeat.

Adnul Irongut UNBEATABLE

The norn and the human can only be beaten if they choose to let you have a chance. Depending on how often they use their signature move, it can be mathematically impossible to win.

However, with Irongut, if you have learned his pattern, he becomes mathematically possible to beat every 6-8 games. You only know in the last half if he will allow you to even have a chance.

My explanation of playing against Irongut: you play a game of skill and 50% of the way through, a die is rolled. If the result is anything other than a 6, you lost the game and don’t know until the end.

It took me a little over an hour to beat him. I was making almost no mistakes in the last 30 minutes.

Human thief PS problem (spoiler)

If you are still looking to solve this problem:
First, I found thief to have the steepest learning curve to survivability of all professions. That does not mean it is not survivable, but it is more difficult than most.

Some people can dagger/dagger and dance around their enemies all day without getting hit much. I cannot, but I learned how to deal with the enemies. At lower levels before you have access to many utilities, there are 2 basic, easier approaches to fighting: ranged kiting and blinding.

Range kiting: either go shortbow (best choice) or pistol/something (pistol/pistol is probably better than pistol/dagger for this). Run around, dodge and shoot. If you use shortbow, use skill number 3 to evade backwards and cripple your foe when they get too close. Use only skills 1 and 3 with shortbow so you don’t run out of initiative. More practice and you can pull this off with pistols, but it is not easy.

Blinding: Go sword/pistol (recommended) or dagger/pistol. You objective is to get adjacent to your enemy and keep them blinded with skill #5. Do not activate skill 5 a second time until your smoke field expires and the enemy blindness drops. Use only skills 1 and 5 until you get good at initiative management.

Another recommendation is use Signet of Malice as you healing skill. It will allow you to recover from occasional hits.

Hope this helps.
