Necro wells can be traited for ground targeting, same as ranger traps.

And various additional effects like health stealing can be put on necro skills.

Targetable wells is what I figured all the traits would be like. VERY noticeable changes that allow you to play differently. Too bad most of them are VERY minor stat improvements that don’t change anything unless you’re staring at the combat log. Many don’t even work at all, no matter what the description says. Some you don’t even want or can’t use unless you play a VERY specific way. Bad synergy.

Most of my exp is with the Necro, which has FUBAR trees.

Down leveling working as intended?

The only reason to go to zones you missed is the “fun” of doing them or a 100% map completion. Steamrolling a lower level zone for crappy rewards isn’t fun for me. Rewards or challenge do not exist at all. Considering many people run alts and probably purposely level up in different zones, going back AGAIN, seems rather pointless. Again, if that achievement means all that much to you=)

Down scaling works, but if this is whats intended, they never shouldn’t bothered at all. Seems like a big waste of code.

So its meaningless…great. Traits should be EASY to notice. You shouldn’t even have to run calculations. You should be able to trait up and see significant differences in your damage/defense/ect compared to not having the trait. The only ones that are apparent are recharge times. THAT I can easily feel without breaking out a spreadsheet and calculator, which is the way its supposed to be. All this 2% damage of 10% total this or that is TERRIBLE design.

Well, you asked what was GW2 “endgame” content. Lande pointed a few options you could do after reaching 80 / finishing main story / getting full exotic gear (and there are more, like crafting, JP, titles / achievements, activities). Just because you dont like the content, doesnt mean its not there.

PvP isn’t end game content. Most PvE’ers don’t want to PvP. Other than that, I don’t think “playing the tp,” “farming,” “achievements” and “activities (?)” are content that people would bother doing. They definitely wouldn’t keep me entertained for over an hour.

As for exploring after 100% world completion, I assume you’re trolling?

Again: “Just because you dont like the content, doesnt mean its not there.”

Achievements and farming dont keep you entertained? Really? Coming from a person with a “Double GWAMM. GW1 Veteran. Been There. Done That.” sign thats pretty shocking.

GW1 had me entertained for over 8000 hours. I stopped actively playing GW2 after 100% world completion (I was bored while doing it, but whatever, I wanted to give the game a chance) Don’t compare GW2 to GW1. They’re not even the slightest bit similar.

GW2’s “achievements” and “farming” don’t come close to how fun and rewarding GW1 was.

Unless you can give me some fun examples of achievements or farming in GW2? I would love to hear it.

You still dont get what Im trying to say. All I said is that theres a lot of content in the game, as an answer to the fallacy being spread out that “theres nothing to do after reaching 80 and get geared up”.

Whether this content is good or bad, fun or boring, its not the point of what I said. And its a complete different topic that Im not willing to discuss, since its totally subjective and Im not here to convince anyone that what I like is the right thing. How can I possibly know what is interesting to you?

So, you can say that you dont like the content in the game, for whatever reasons you may have. But saying that theres no content is a lie, plain and simple.

I assumed content should be fun, my bad. So there is content but it is boring. You win.

To each his own. I like dungeons, I like doing DE’s, I like jumping puzzles and mini dungeons. Someone mentioned that the only issue are the rewards, and I’ll second that.

I’d like jumping puzzles too if the camera wasn’t a train wreck and the platforming was actually precise, which it isn’t. You slide off of edges, the camera goes haywire. It makes what should be fun, kind of frustrating. And DEs are fun, while leveling. At 80, its just a mindless grind. NOT fun anymore. Without decent rewards everything in a MMO becomes a tedious question of “why am I doing this?”. A dungeon is no longer hard once you know thew few nuances, and the bosses certainly aren’t tough. They just have too many Hps. Then you’re just farming. I’ve farmed in other MMOs, but at least I was getting gear that actually improved my stats in a significant way, so that I wanted them and needed them. Here, its just for looks, which isn’t so exciting, since you can see yourself in the preview window all dressed up.

I’m sensing a trend. LESS and less fixes. More and more fluff, useless, temporary content that doesn’t matter a day or 2 after its over. If the content people and bug fixers are separate team, I just have to say ANET is is playing the minor leagues compared to other AAA MMOs, finishing what they started.

Other MMOs have more intuitive and fun specialization trees. GW2 should’ve kept what they did in GW if they wanted to be different. Just let players choose from a big list and be whatever they want to be. Basically if you’re not going to do the trees right, don’t bother doing it.

Most of my experience is with the Necro, which was obviously thrown together by blind monkey’s, since they barely make any sense or have any real synergy. But reading through other classes, its not much more “fun”.

Besides the back piece you get at the end, who uses any rewards from the story after 80? I can’t remember a single piece of decent gear I ever received, much of it, under the level the actual quest chain was even at. Anythng you got should’ve been quickly replaced from the TP or self crafting as soon as you hit 80. The reward system in the game is mostly deplorable and makes no sense at all compared to other MMOs.

The End Game Debate

Josher.9612

GW2 is more a single player game with a multiplayer layer on it if you choose to play it. You lvl to 80 and if you want, try the dungeons. Since the incentive to do the dungeons is only a skin, its not exactly awe inspiring especially since from the few I’ve seen, they’re no better looking than most of the outside world except for mobs with lots of HPs and a select few specialized encounters that actually take any sort of real strategy. I expect something special from a dungeon. GW2 doesn’t deliver here…yet. Coming from other MMOs, GW2 doesn’t deliver dungeons.

I don’t consider WvW viable at all until I can see EVERY SINGLE PLAYER in my FOV. If any are invisible, the game is completely broken. Sorry. And for the moment it is. And I get to pay repair bills for what is essentially something completely out of my control. No thanks.

PvP is mostly a side dish. 1 play mode=a couple of nights worth of messing around. Nothing to really strive for. So I won a game. Big whoop. What do I get for it? A pat on the back? A new skin eventually? Who cares. No thanks.

RPGs are about progression and GW2’s progression is only skin deep once you hit 80. Actually all your real progression stops once you get the elites you want, which is probably around 60-65.

10-15 minute long fights where the Champion just has a couple of attacks, 1 massive DPS insta-kill shot and your typical AOE, avoid the red circle attack….leads to BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIING combat. The bosses in GW2 are pathetically outdated mechanics-wise compared to other MMOs out there. The fact that you get to use a dodge skill instead of just running out of the way, doesn’t cover up this obvious fault. Obvious to those who played other MMOs besides GW that is=) To those who are astounded by the ability to roll out of the way in a MMO…you must be easily amused.

I’ll admit I use all my skills when playing my Necro, because I HAVE TO. Sure I can use something other than Scepter/Dagger/Staff if I want to, but its technically not better. I could probably use 3 or 4 and kite all over the place, but that’s tedious….and sort of impossible in Orr=)

Compared with my Guardian…I can get by with 3 or 4, just fine most of the time and barely have to think….in PvE. If my main was a Guardian , I might not have even reached 80 due to the ease of everything. Glad I started with my Necro and all the pain and aggravation that goes with it.

The OP has a point and only die hard fanboys can’t see it. There should be a lot more abilities and skills and faster more intuitive ways to swap everything out. For example, just like we can swap weapons, we should be able to swap our utility skills with a click of a button. NO, not manually doing it the way we have to now. We should be able to swap all 5 at once. That right there opens up, some nice variety.

PET UI

in Necromancer

Posted by: Josher.9612

I agree with Josher. A UI isn’t necessary if the pets just behave intelligently. I only ever use them underwater anymore, but they seem better about attacking my target lately. Sometimes i’ll even stand back with a spear and send them to attack by swinging at out of range targets.

I think from a design standpoint, they don’t want to clutter our UI with tools and bars and boxes for every little thing. One of the (many) reasons WoW is so ugly is the skill bars

Thanks. By the way, the WOW UI is only as ugly and cluttered as you want it to be. GW2’s UI is pretty but has NOTHING on the functionality of WOW’s, due to mods. Not even close.

Is there a /who command so we can easily see how many people are playing which class at any time? Its possible that with so few people playing Necros, fixing us just isn’t worth the trouble until they get around to it, which could be a year from now, which reinforces my belief that they truly don’t care. Oh how surprising a learn how to play comment…coming from Certain other MMos the targeting system is wonky here. Sorry. It should target closest ONLY in your FOV. BAD code kiddo. If that’s by design, then ANET should play its competitors MMOs and learn what’s intuitive.

I can play just fine, but if tab doesn’t target the closest enemy EVERY time, it’s not good. Its about consistency.

If its out of range it shouldnt fire. The entire skill should be red also, instead of a thin line. Due to lousy tab targeting system…YES even pick closest enemy does NOT choose the correct one. It will target enemies completely out of your FOV which is messed up. I’ll fire off a skill assuming the game will target properly and sometimes it doesnt. No its not me…I’ve played other MMOs where I NEVER had this issue. In those if you target is out of range you don’t waste it due to bad coding.

A slower leveling speed so you don’t max out in a month.

True group roles. No true healing, agro or CC. Yes, it was never supposed to have it:). Still missing though.

Bosses that require strategy.

Gear that isn’t just cosmetic.

Emotes. There really aren’t any, besides dance, wave….very basic.

Actual quests. The story could be considered the big quest though.

Varried pvp modes.

Optimization in WvW.

Descent trait lines for Necros, pet AI, ect.

More available skills. 10 is so limiting, but it’s by design. Either that or allow skill templates so you can quickly switch OOC, instead of manually switching them all.

Better TP search functions.

Better friends/guild notifications.

Better combat logs and chat interface.

Decent camera. It doesn’t zoom out far enough and is a cluster near walls for jumping puzzles. Edges are also not accurate. You slide off of ledges that appear to be fine. Plenty of missed jumps due to no fault of my own.

1. There is certainly a grind. It just changed from better stats to different skins.
2. Yes, the game is certainly fun for a time….while leveling up.
3. The dodge system is a nice change…not new, but nice. I find the whole skill system rather limiting actually. Some weapons are truly useless compared to others. Some utilities are VERY situational, so if you don’t have them equipped, you’re SOL. Having to sacrifice something good just to have have 1 skill equipped for the perfect time is NOT fun. Again, some classes have it FAR better than others. Skills & traits for some make sense. Traits for others are a cluster^%&*. I appreciate the effort of trying to be different but it all comes off as restrictive.

Fun game, but short lived. Then again, maybe that was the whole point. No monthly fee, so no reason to play constantly. With that goes any sort of community. Good by social aspects.

Someone motivate me to level in this game.

That sums it up for a lot of people. Many of us at least got to 80 to see the sudden wall of “what just happened??” for ourselves. Although I didn’t go in expecting much of anything. I expected another disappointment, so when the game was actually fun, it was a relief. The fun was just so short-lived for a MMO.

But then again, this game just isn’t meant to be absorbed like other MMOs. I think your’e supposed to just stop playing then start playing, then stop playing, ect. Then again, when you do that the social aspect basically goes out the window. Hard to connect with people that are on again off again. I’ve long outgrown simple chit chat in a video game so if I’m not really playing, I’m logging. I won’t spend hours doing “stuff” in a MMO when I have lots of other games that don’t have you doing just “stuff”. There’s actual game to play, not grinding for a nicer skin that wears off right after you get it. “ooooh, coool”. Then, “OK, what do I do with this nice armor”? I can’t WvW when I can’t see 1/2 the people I’m fighting=(

The “nothing to look forward to”, rears its ugly head when you think about rolling an alt, because you already know whats going to happen, so you think “Why am I doing this again?” Whats the incentive? Fun?? But I already know its not going to be fun once I hit Orr. Sigh…

Great game. Just no longevity.

Nice addition for a MMO. I stress MMO, since they’re terrible by any other standard. If not for the bugged out camera(chaar problem), they would be much easier, some of them. Its a nice change of pace, like the vistas. Breaks up the kill, kill, kill monotony that can creep into the game over longer play sessions.

Regarding their difficulty, when the camera completely flips out mid jump, that IS ANET’S problem, not the player. Can’t judge a jump when every direction goes reverse and the camera is whippping in and out 20X a sec. Highly annoying.

“Now, now now” with meaningless bugs and tweaks is pushing it. Non working traits or fubar trait lines, or weapon skills that don’t do what they claim, SHOULD BE now, now, now….if ANET cared.

If only caring translated into manpower, the world would be a much better place.

Don’t make a MMO if you don’t have the manpower to fix essentially simple bugs within 2 months. They spent all their time lately on Halloween, which is essentially temporary content. You think people will care in December about what happened in Oct? But if I’m still looking at the same trait tree that seemed like it was put together by throwing darts at a board blindfolded, that’s incompetence, not a lack of manpower. Axe is mostly a useless weapon. How hard would it be to add X% of damage to make it more viable? A few lines of code to change a %.

It also doesn’t take much manpower to acknowledge the bugs as actual bugs or tell us we’re all crazy. It certainly took them NO TIME to say, “learn how to DS”, because apparently that solves everything=)

They know because it is a confirmed bug in the bug report thread sticky’d at the top of the forum, that mods and devs go through. That is how most bugs are widely known.

Whaaaaaat? Because a group of people NOT related to the development or design of the game decide something is a bug, it’s automatically a bug??

Bugs are added to that thread by us, the players. They are also confirmed by us, the players. Mods and devs read the thread, so what? That does not imply that they approve of everything that is in it, or that they agree that everything in it is a bug.

We as players can report on issues or behaviors we feel are bugs. We do not have the final say as to whether or not these things are actually bugs. That’s a decision for the game designers. The bug list stickied in this forums has no more worth than an internet petition.

EDIT: Just to head anyone off who would jump to conclusions about this post…yes, many of the items in that list are legitimate bugs. That does not imply that every item on that list is automatically a bug just because it is on the list.

If I made the game or designed the class, I could go through our bug list and say, “Bug” or “Intended” in about 10 minutes. If something everyone thinks is a bug, is actually intended, it would take no time at all to confirm it and instantly explain exactly where they stand. Almost everything on that list has been there for a while. “We’re working on it” is a non answer. Being a project manager for many years, this is all cake to take care of. Basic customer service and business IMHO. If 1/2 the things we thought were bugs were clarified as working as intended, then that would clear up a whole lot.

GW2 is a great MMO. I had a lot of fun. But people will go to such lengths to ignore bugs and missing “basics”, making excuses. Its obviously ignorance to whats already out there. Like being amazed that a new car has power windows, even though they’ve been around for quite a while. Some people will claim, I don’t WANT power windows, this car is “different”. Sorry, its just excuses or low expectations.

Whats basic that I noticed within a short time of playing…

A decent search engine for the TP is a basic feature thats missing. Can’t search by armor type.

An inspect feature so you know what someone is wearing is also a basic feature.

A decent camera that doesn’t bug out and zoom in and out 30X a sec when you’re near a wall and a decent FOV. At least give us a slider.

Quest rewards(story), that are tied to your class and not some random vendor trash that is often under your level and worthless. Should apply to all chests as well. If you don’t want it, you can still sell it, but at least its something you “might” want.

A slightly customizable interface. Small and large is cute though;)

Being able to see at least 1/2 of the players in front of you, instead of them slowly appearing or not at all. I know, too much to ask for=) Its NOT my PC.

More thought into gear design so clipping is less of an issue. A staff shouldn’t be inside the armor, sorry.

Decent group tools and its UI. I know, when grouping its not all that important to keep track of what your group mates are doing(compared to other MMOs), but yeesh. This is really streamlined.

More thought into magic effects and what happens when 10+ people are shooting them off at once. They really didn’t think very hard on that one.

Working traits and trees that were planned out with some forethought. Necro is a disaster compared to how well other classes. A little balance issues are OK, but things not working at all or doing things they’re not supposed to do….cmon. 1/2 our abilities don’t work underwater. HELLO?

Too many loading screens. Maybe not that basic, but its certainly glaringly annoying when other games manage to avoid them.

Trains?? Really?

Messed up spawn rates. Never played a MMO where the mob you just killed spawns instantly in the same spot as soon as it dies….let alone 3 mobs spawning at the same time around you.

By the way, this isn’t the WOW-way, even though they have set a precedence that is hard to compete with. I haven’t played WOW for a while, but I’m not blind or fanboyish enough to ignore the many great things its brought to the genre. Ignoring them makes you foolish. Different is good. Different by ignoring the basics is NOT good. Also, discounting an opinion because someone mentions WOW, shows your age. Just saying.

I honestly wish people would just take a step back and look at the big picture. This game is less than 2 months old, for crying out loud, and you’re comparing it to a game that has gone through SCORES of changes, re-writes, and 4 expansions over YEARS.

But many basic feature people have come to expect were in other games at release or soon afterwards, where we are now. Instead we get fluff for Halloween, which will be long forgotten in a few weeks, instead of features that shoudl’ve already been implemented.

“Haha. “Srsly guys all classes are bugged! My friend rolled an elementalist…” I stopped reading there. Probably a thief player.”

Yeah, sure…don’t you love stereotypes >_> No, she doesn’t play a thief, she brought an elementalist to 80 and then started a necro, whom she is enjoying immensely.
And yes, ALL professions ARE bugged and their players are whining about it, and it is not just the necromancer who apparently has only 1 or 2 viable builds – heck, the lacking build variety in rangers was just confirmed by a dev. So stop playing “oh dear me everyone hates us etc.” rollseyes

By the way – yes, I did play Minion master until about level 60. Even despite the buggy minion AI, it was laughably easy. And I still feel that there are classes which make PvE way more difficult to solo than necro. And before we start arguing which profession has the most bugs…well, I want some statistic with that.

With the amount of QQing going on, you’d think the necromancer was unplayble at the moment – which it simply isn’t.

Just read the bug list thread. Like others, staying ignorant to the problems makes the game more enjoyable. I wish I never came here, since I wouldn’t have even realized how broken things actually are. Ignorance is bliss. Of course the class is playable, but when you play others, then come back, you realize just how broken it is. I can faceroll mobs in 3 hits with my Guardian. I can stand around as a Ranger and pew, pew, pew away. Barely have to think. Not so with a Necro. Before I rerolled other classes I thought WOW, this MMO is “slightly” difficult, then I realized its just the Necro. GW2 is just as easy as every other MMO is you play a “working” class.

“Now, now now” with meaningless bugs and tweaks is pushing it. Non working traits or fubar trait lines, or weapon skills that don’t do what they claim, SHOULD BE now, now, now….if ANET cared.

Remove the auto-bleed, bump up their Hps a lot and push it to a higher tier and problem solved, since ANET thought they were too strong where they are. So they just made them die before they could really do anything, making them mostly useless.

I would’ve preferred a fixed class than anything I’ve seen for Halloween. Work so hard to put out fluff that’s going to be gone in a few weeks or permanently fix a class? Hhhmmm tough choice. Anything to get people to buy gems, right ANET=)

If you can’t fix it or don’t care, just turn a bug into a feature. Brilliant! Is this a MMO first?? What a perfect way for a developer to claim a class has few bugs…just call everything working as intended. ANET did say they want to be different=)
