I forget, were people this whiny about costumes in GW1? Because outfits are literally the exact same thing.

They sold costumes and I don’t recall ever seeing a single complaint about them. I don’t even know why people condemn outfits and demand gem store armor anyway. Why aren’t they praising outfits in the gem store and asking for armor in game?

In the past, when ANet did sell gem store armor, there were numerous complaints about the fact they were in the gem store. Recently ANet has started putting armor in game behind a token system (and there was a long thread asking for that very thing, I think it was the thread about RNG). For whatever reason, some people still want gem store armor instead of praising ANet for putting outfits there and the last armor sets in game.

No matter what ANet does. People complain.

To lose, wouldn’t they have to have less players logging in daily because of the expansion? How likely is that? Expansions traditionally bring in lots of people, including those who used to play but stopped.

It’s a bit early to suggest it will be a failure when it hasn’t even had a beta feedback from players to support a negative argument and all you have is your opinion.

high AP but don't know game

Just a flesh wound.3589

Most people doing dungeons expect you to know what to do. It’s even worse if you have a high AP. They somehow think that means you do dungeons enough to know what to do without being told.

How is that an unreasonable expectation, especially if you don’t say anything at the beginning of the run?

I’ve never pugged a dungeon so I don’t know what people say or don’t say. I’ve only read posts like the OP who are upset about people not being a dungeon expert or other posts where people say they got kicked or flamed for not knowing a dungeon completely. I sort of know what to do, but not well. If I did pug I would volunteer my lack of knowledge at the beginning but it’s the attitude I’ve seen on the forums that makes me wary of even joining a LFG.

I also point out that OP said that he believed that if you had a high AP and didn’t know your dungeons then his conclusion was that you were an account buyer. It’s that sort of attitude that there is something wrong with you (a person who breaks TOS in this case) that would make a person hesitant to volunteer that they aren’t a dungeon expert, especially if they do have high AP.

OP’s post is actually one of the reasons I don’t do dungeons with strangers. Most people doing dungeons expect you to know what to do. It’s even worse if you have a high AP. They somehow think that means you do dungeons enough to know what to do without being told. That’s why, on the rare occasions I do one, it’s with my guild. I can follow along and do what they do and they don’t expect me to be anything but clueless.

AP is not a bad measurement. It’s a meaningless measurement. People get most of their AP from doing dailies and living story as well as other activities like jumping puzzles. There are no activities that give AP (outside doing the dungeon paths once) that teach dungeon mechanics and where to stack.

Knowing a dungeon path != knowing the game.

Dungeons is major part of the game knowledge.

Not everyone does dungeons frequently and knows the mechanics. Not knowing the mechanics of a dungeon is not equal to buying the game from an account seller as you said in your first post.

I’ve done a handful of dungeons and I might do one once every month, or two, or three.

They don’t know their skills, they don’t know small details about the game? Can’t PvP without dying? What?

Behave like first time in dungeon.

A person can have high ap and never set foot in a dungeon or rarely go in one. I rarely go in a dungeon, the last time was a couple of months back. When I’m in one that I haven’t been in a few months, it’s very likely I won’t remember it well enough to know what to do.

The video WoodenPotatoes put out for Pax had him make a brand new character on an trial like account, no access to anything in his old account. He was an immediate level 80 with max armor and had all available skills and at least one weapon.

Since they want to test the level 80 zone and a brand new profession, it’s quite possible that each tester will also be given a testing account and will not be using their old account.

Usually a person is doing one of two things wrong. The first, is trying to use their display name instead of the email. The second is that they are making a typo.

To double check on the typo, presumably on the password, you can type the password on a clipboard and then copy and paste it and see if the game starts. (And then erase the password on the clipboard).

ANet, like any company, wants to sell what sells well. It’s quite possible, judging by how many people are wearing an outfit the day it’s first available, that outfits sell much more than armor. A light armor, for example, will only be bought by those who have a light armor char and who like that armor enough to commit to changing their char’s look (essentially) permanently. An outfit can be bought by any that it appeals to and the new look is not a commitment but a whim.

If outfits far outstrip armor in what sells in the gemstore then ANet would be foolish to make a lesser selling product (the armor).

Is there any way I can get refunded 75% money

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

OP, if you do get a refund and then get a new account, do not attempt to attach the key for your new account to your old refunded account. The site will let you do so but since your old account will be deactivated, it will lock up your new account and you won’t be able to access it without contacting support, which can take several days.

Getting a refund will also cause them to refuse the method of payment you used so you will need to have a different credit/debit/paypal to buy the new account.

If you buy a new account before you get a refund on your old account and use the same card, the refund will cause both accounts to be deactivated (as well as that method of payment with ANet).

If you do not care for PvP and/or your server never holds all parts of the WvWvW needed for the POI’s, vista’s and skill up’s, then how do you finish the Map Completion? Changing servers is risky as you may not get back to your home server if it is full. ANet should remove the WvWvW from the Map Completion. What do the rest of you think?

Map COMPLETION means 100%, so cut the QQ and get into WvW..

Is there a set time for the Temple fights

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

No. The temples start on different times on different maps shards and the time varies depending on if people do the starting events or if they stop the events from proceeding by not letting a certain event fail.

Your best bet is to check the map by going there. If the temple is closed you can attempt to get on another shard by guesting to another server and seeing if that shard has an open temple. If a friend gets on a shard different from you with an open temple you can party up with him and go there. He can also guest to try to get on a different shard.

You can increase the chances of landing on different shards if you are
1) from different servers
2) not in the same guild
3) not friending each other
4) not in the same party

disable whispers from who blocked you

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

I agree with the OP. If you have someone blocked then you should not be able to whisper them. They’ll continue to see what you say in /say, /map, etkittenil they block you but whispers should be automatic.

I just want to add to it because there is a small work around. It would be possible to whisper first then block. My suggestion is if you whisper someone and then block, the block doesn’t take affect until 30sec after the whisper.

Why?

Well, the whole point of the problem is people with whisper knowing full well that you can’t say anything back to them. They feel empowered by it. You remove this protection and they will think twice about doing it in the first place.

Possibly, but there is also the likelihood of people getting caught up in responding to each other to the point they report each other and both get a suspension. The immediate block stops this escalation before it can start so that only one can be reported.

That saying, I think also if you block you shouldn’t be able to whisper. If you then drop the block to whisper and reblock then any suspension should be longer.

Guild Wars Sale - Multiple Accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

The emphasis on account bound items really limits the storage but there is one big plus to getting a cheap alt account. The laurels. You can get 55 per month. That, converted to T6 mats is a lot and converted to gold can pay for the account itself over time.

Other than that. Personal guild security. If you have your alt guild as guild leader also and accidentally leave the guild or if you are hacked and the hacker drops the guild, your alt account can reinvite you. More guilds is a plus if you are a big trader and need lots of storage. Ability to play incognito is something to consider for those who want to sometimes play quietly without hurting friend’s feelings. The ability to mail back and forth is occasionally useful. 165 extra T6 mats every 28 days is also a consideration for those making a Legendary.

I doubt keeping people who block from whispering will do that much. If they are that determined to do so, they could type message, remove block, send message, reblock. A bit more effort for them but gets around a block limitation.

In fact I could see it as a type of game for some. Sit snug behind your block wall. Get a message ready, drop shield and take a potshot. Put up walls before the other person can respond.

The game makes shards of the maps as needed for the number of people who are playing in it. If enough people who are in a shard leave and it drops below the population minimum to keep it going, the game will try to close it down. It will first ask people to switch. If people don’t leave it gives them some more time then it will close and force them to switch to another shard.

Vanilla GW2 is Dead when HoT releases:

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

It was confirmed by Colin in an interview that all Living Story segments, events, and updates will be gated behind the expansion. Nothing like the attack on Lion’s Arch, the Toxic Alliance, or the Silverwastes/Drytop will be coming out for vanilla players to interact with.

If you enjoy PvE but can’t get the expansion for a while you may as well quit or start playing WvW or PvP since neither of those are apparently being gated.

How do you guys feel about this? Is it justified that from this point on everything will be happening in Maguuma? It’s pretty much guaranteed to isolate the community between HoT and not so how will that affect PvE in general? If there’s a new hub in the jungles it’s likely that a majority of players will simply leave ‘Pact Tyria’ in the dust like ANet is doing.

I hope you enjoy doing the exact same content you’ve been doing already, because without HoT you get nothing from this point onwards.

Discuss.

Could someone please clarify this for me? I have barely played in the last 6 months to a year… if I get the expansion…what does this mean for me?

Edit: I just re-read…and yeah I agree with everyone else. This is how most other games handle their expansions. If you didn’t pay for the expansion, you still expect to zone into Maguuma?

However… the one issue I will have with this is the idea behind living story and thus gating future content updates behind the expansion.

Living world… living breathing world. If you don’t buy the expansion, your living world ceases to be living. And no to mention, the world is bigger than one zone. So the sound of the phrase ‘living world’ is funny, when all that is changing is one zone when the expansion comes out.

But again…bills must be paid and this is a traditional thing to do with expansions.

I might be wrong about this but the real living world is different from a virtual living world in that the real one doesn’t require paying hundreds of people to make content. The real living world also doesn’t need to have a single smoothly flowing story line that is coherent, doesn’t divide the player base and doesn’t confuse people with multiple ongoing story lines.

(Imo, most people in the real living world are confused enough about multiple ongoing story lines around them and don’t need it in game also),
