No, he was complaining about his display name that got changed. His original display name, the one he chose when creating his account was “Seamus McPlatofart”. He self reported it and Anet changed it to “Formulates Cat Maps”. When Anet changes an inappropriate display name they make it an anagram. He was unhappy about this but since he self reported Anet made an exception and let him change it to his current display name , “Gern”. He never stated he had an issue with a character name.

If you wanted a specific name, you could have it by paying $10 in gems. If you wanted an awesome name provided by Customer Support, then I suppose you went about it the right way.

The OP’s issue was with their display name, not a character name. Display names are only changed if they are deemed inappropriate or give away personal info such as using their real name or email. Since the OP self-reported their own inappropriate display name it was changed and the OP was eventually allowed to select their own, a rare exception.

Name change contracts only work for character names.

I’d stand in Lion’s Arch dancing in my underwear and spamming my mad skills. I already do that it real life so the transition would be an easy one to make.

You cannot link GW2 accounts togeather. You can only link a GW2 account with a GW1 account.

And yes using the report function for the mail is all you need to do.

If you reported the mail by clicking the exclamation mark icon on the mail that is all you need to do. These mails are usually coming from stolen accounts. Anet will take care of it from there.

The download does resume where you left off. It just doesn’t look that way because the progress bar resets when you resume downloading and the percentage will show zero again. However if you look, you will notice the number of files remaining will be where you stopped downloading before.

Yes if you are the same race you start in the same racial area. However that is not required. Once you complete the intro mission you can go to your race’s home city, take the port to Lion’s Arch and then go to the main city and starter area of any other race.

Not really. The only difference with race is the first part of the personal story, appearance and racial elite skills. The general consensus is that racial elite skills are mostly worthless anyway so mostly it is all about how you want to look and the first part of the personal story. Some advice, Norn and Charr appear to run slower due to size even though the speed is exactly the same as other races. It is just a visual effect that can make them seem slower. Also they can be more difficult to deal with in jumping puzzles due to size and some camera angles. Lastly, Charr armor seems to clip a lot, that is a common complaint.

I don’t think you will run into any problems with numbers of players playing the same profession, Ranger or Thief. Warrior is the profession you will see the most of. If you want to be more unique there is Mesmer. Mesmer has okay range with greatsword and fairly good melee. You do depend a lot on illusions and phantasms which you might determine as magic. I main a Mesmer and love it. It is a very fun class with a lot of tricks for almost any situation. Some say it is difficult to level up though because they are rather dependent on traits which are harder to come by these days.

Before someone else steps in and says this there is no hunter in GW2 it is Ranger. Not trying to be snarky but someone was going to say it eventually.

As to your request it sounds like your friend might like Guardian for support and you Thief or Ranger. There is no trinity in this game so every profession can do a bit of everything depending on your build.

There are no wrongs to make right. The OP and others are talking about why they prefer GW2 over ESO. This is the GW2 forum so it is fair game to say why you like their game over others on their game forums. And no, many of those threads went on for some time. They may have been closed eventually but not swiftly by any means.

For those of you that didn’t get an invite, it is only for a few hours anyway as a stress test. They did say there will be other tests later with a growing pool of players. So don’t fret.

I didn’t get an invite either but of course I never signed up.

I tired ESO for a week. I felt like some of the color had been zapped out of my monitor. The world was so bland looking. The game play was slow, boring and stale. I got a full refund.

I have to say this is probably the most funny, “But my name is innocent,” post I have seen in a long time.

I definitely consider myself one of the most active and loyal Guild Wars 2 player and I signed up for the newsletter in the first hour that it was available. I’m the only one from among my active guildmates who did not get an invite, that’s why I think there may have been an error or not all emails were sent out.

The way I read the message is that it was a lottery/drawing selected by active players that also subscribe to the newsletter. So somewhat RNG my friend.

Congrats. It seems the Beta was a drawing of sorts from what I read. Despite that I hope they at least invited some Mac customers to test it as well. Sure the Mac beta is a cider port but there have been past updates that busted it that I think could have been avoided if they had used Mac testers.

I’m sure they will. Support works very hard and they deal with thousands of support requests. However, posting here won’t change the place in the queue as support requests are addressed in the order they are received.

Most of those very long requests are related to GW1 account issues not GW2. They have been working to further support GW1 issues but it seems they are still falling behind.

Since she got the auto response she will have to wait to hear from support. If she does not get a response within 7 days she can post her ticket number in this thread:

Keep in mind, do not submit a second ticket while waiting as this will slow response time.

While this is being worked out she can still play with you and your guild in PvE by joining a party aside from WvW.

Is it possible that your account was hacked or compromised and someone else changed the server?

Have you noticed anything else wrong with the account? Missing items, gold, etc?

Regardless, the person with the problem will have to wait for a support response. I hope they can figure it out for you.

The person with the issue will have to wait to hear from support. Only they can interact with support regarding this issue.

Also are you sure that the person with the issue didn’t accidentally guest to another server?

Home servers don’t just change on their own, unless there was some sort of bug. I’ve not heard of such a bug myself. Are you sure you didn’t guest to the other server? If you are certain that you were on the original server and did not initiate a server change you will need to contact support. Follow the support link at the top of the page then the submit a request link located on the top right of that page.

Well it was much better than his original display name.

I think the crux of the OP’s post had to do with his display name issue as referenced in the support forum. The other stuff I think was just added to accentuate his point as he was angry at the time.

OP, if you look at your thread in account support you will see you have been granted a very rare exception to the display name change policy because you self reported your own inappropriate name. You should be happy. I’ve never once seen this happen and I’m guessing it is only because you self reported. Select your new name wisely.

It takes time once they do a display name change for it to complete from what I understand and is why you are probably seeing your old one in game. It will catch up eventually.

Hmm. I’ve never noticed the serial key being a required field. Have you made sure to select the required “specific issue” drop down field? If so what issue are you selecting.

This type of thread shows up every time a new weapon skin is added only available with tickets via BLCs. The general consensus is you are best off to wait a while for the key farmers to do their thing and list the skins on the TP then buy them for gold. It’s not as quick as it used to be since key farming got nerfed but it is still the safest bet.

Hmm… I bet all those people that were throwing gold and other items at him when he started to play might feel kind of bad now if he did indeed quit already.

Of course when submitting a ticket it is always a good idea to include as much pertinent information as possible even if the fields are optional.

Just one, the “Specific Issue” drop down and I noticed they have recently put a red border around it to make it more visible.
