The fact is they aren’t using this tragedy for this reason, people who were effected by the tragedy have spoken out about it and are upset, so it has actually offended people.
I’d be willing to bet all my gold and tradable items that if the tragedy had occurred via Kenya airlines this would never have even been brought up.
If anything Mods should start merging all these threads. That would make more sense.
take a break from the forums for a day.
I probably will because the forums have been trashed by a bunch of people trying to make something out of nothing. It’s too bad because I usually like it around here. But you are right, I could use a day off.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
All these threads complaining about the 1 day April Fools joke are flooding the forum for no good reason aside from the fact that people just like to complain. It is rather sad that such people use real world tragedies to try to make their distaste for the April Fools graphics more valid. If you won’t lock the forum down then please start merging the topics.
Take the day off then. See you tomorrow.
yeah because we need more threads on this topic.
The flickering effect they are using to mimmick old movies was well known for causing headaches when it was common, decades ago. Learning a bit of History is a good thing, especially when trying to mock other people’s opinions.
What flickering effect? I didn’t see it when I was in game. I spent a good 20 minutes running around and the only thing I noticed was my character’s arms were out and made airplane noises. Also I’d like to see you provide sources from peer reviewed journals that prove what you are saying.
Just to point out, there definitely is a flickering effect, combined with a sepia tone, to give it an old-time movie effect. However, it can be eliminated by turning off post processing in the options.
Odd I never saw it. Maybe because I was playing on a Mac. When I went in game all I saw was my character with arms stretched out. There was no flicker. I suppose this is one very rare case where playing on Mac was a benefit.
You’ll be back. People like you say this stuff all the time. You will even buy the expansion. I’d bet all my gold on it.
I’m going to quote this guy because what he said is true:
Exactly this. People drawing comparison to real life tragedy as a means of justifying their annoyance. Far, FAR more despicable as far as I’m concerned.
I just want to quote this guy because what he said is very true:
Exactly this. People drawing comparison to real life tragedy as a means of justifying their annoyance. Far, FAR more despicable as far as I’m concerned.
You can take a break. Come back a day later and still enjoy the game you paid for. It is one day out of an entire year. Maybe a day off will do you some good.
This came up last year with the bobble heads. Crying about it didn’t change a thing. Take a day, go to a book store, go for some walks, make some new real life friends, practice a new craft. Heck if you do all that you may not even want to come back to GW2 for a few days. And if a one day issue affects you that much, that is a good thing. There is an entire explorable world out there that offers many more adventures than GW2 can ever provide. :)
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I can’t play but I can get into my account, Where you can download the client on the web site… What do I do ?
I get the same error
I am running out of options hear !
Plus the hacker might of change my character’s as well , Boy I am in a pickle . "Face-Pomes "
Scan your computer for virus/malware/key loggers
Then change the password for the email account associated with your GW2 Account
Then change your GW2 password
Then contact support and tell them your account may have been compromised.
lol theres unlimted amount of things they could have done that wouldnt have connected to mass dissasters that has happened recently, that is one stupid argument imo.
Like I said, I am willing to bet the current April Fools effect was in development well before the Germanwings tragedy. It isn’t like Anet can just click a button and it creates the current visuals. Trust me, what happened with Germanwings is very sad. I hate when things like that happen. I feel sad for all the family members this affected and those that lost their lives. However I think you are reading way too much into it.
If you think Anet made this April Fools joke based on the tragedy you are most likely very very wrong. It would make no sense and would be a horrible PR move.
I bet if the unfortunate airline crash had been from say a Kenya airline you would not have a complaint about the April Fools joke.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
doesnt matter what intent was, a lot of people are having sad thoughts, that is bad, do you understand?
Well to be honest there are a lot of things in game that can invoke sad thoughts if you apply them to real life. Is it cool to kill someone in PvP and watch them die? That might invoke sad thoughts. People have been killed recently by being stabbed with sharp weapons and it makes the news. So that could invoke sad thoughts. If woman is stabbed to death and it makes the new does that mean Anet should disable the ability to use sharp weapons against female characters?
well as i said, i find you blind and unempathetic,
That’s fine but you are wrong. A good deal of my free time is dedicated to helping those in need. I simply don’t go looking for things to be offended about, especially when such things were unintended.
Then leave the forum dude.
No thanks.
wow if you dont see the obvious connection between this and jesus on the cross or that a lot of people laughed and then had sad thoughts about dead people on crashed airplanes, because of recent events, i find you blind and unempathetic.
No, I don’t see the obvious connection. For one this April Fools prank has probably been in development well before the Germanwings tragedy. I seriously doubt Anet would plan such a thing to make light of such an unfortunate event. It makes no sense. They are smarter than that. If you choose to make the connection between characters pretending to fly and a current event, well that’s on you.
Also I don’t see an obvious connection with Jesus. Running around with arms out is in no way symbolic of Jesus on the cross. When I was a kid I used to run around like that. You know pretending to fly.
As I have said many times in this thread, some people don’t like the visuals this prank presents. So, instead of just letting it go they are using terms like, “offended”, ’"insulted", “gives me headaches” to try to make their point.
For reference this thread mirrors the bobble head thread from last year:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/April-Fools-Bobble-Heads/
To sum it up, it is a one day thing. Some people didn’t like it but it was not changed due to some outrage. In fact they even sell the bobble head laboratory in the gem store. I drop it often in newbie zones just to see people trip out.
If you can’t stand a one day prank then take the day off. It is that simple. It might even be of some benefit to step away from an online game if such things are troubling.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Its Trogdor and Lordkrall, they do this each time someone posts a thread where someone complains about something ANET has done. Its not a surprise.
False. I rarely get involved in complaint threads on the side of Anet. When I do it is often because people are blowing things out of proportion. Check my post history, all 89 pages. You will see I have posted my fair share of complaints as well.
That said, this is a one day joke and people are acting like it has destroyed the game forever. I won’t ever support that stance because it is, well, silly.

Bought the game last night and played for 15 minutes… This company really knows how to make a first impression on a new customer. Glad I spend more time troubleshooting my PC/Software for a random bug than playing the game before I found this post.
kittening bravo to the idiot that approved this as a forced global setting in their software.
It is a one day joke. Go to bed, do some stuff for a day. Come back and it will be the game you were looking for. Well maybe not if you get so bent out of shape over a one day transformation. You didn’t even describe how this affected your game play.
Or you could spend more time camping this thread telling people how and when to enjoy their game, if we’re on the topic of ‘gainful activities.’
So are you camping this thread too? Good grief. It is a 24 hour thing, If people want to rage then let them. I’m still going to call them out for it. This thread is almost a duplicate of the bobble head prank last year. People talking about how this ruined the game, they will never buy gems again, they are physically sick and all the other hyperbole that went with it.
It get’s old.

Honestly. If you people can’t chill out and a take a break from your regular MMO activities ONE DAY A YEAR then you seriously need to go outside and find something other than MMOs to do with your life.
RE post he speaks the true
get some perspective on life so sad people are reacting in this way!
This. +1
How dare people want to play a game they bought! Quit being so condescending.
I agree you should do the same.
This is pretty annoying, i logged in and after 2 min decided to log out and make a post here
Please make an option to turn this of as it is pretty annoying after the first couple of minutes.\
People said the same thing last year when the prank was bobble heads. If it bothers you so much just log out. Go for a walk, watch some movies, call some friends, maybe hang out with people in real life. You will survive I promise.
If they do have a medical condition then indeed they should see a doctor. That said I have yet to hear of a condition where viewing an in game character with their arms out making air plane noises causes medical distress. Like I said, hyperbole and the use of such does not help the person’s complaint.
Seriously? Now, if they have a medical condition they know they have it because they have already seen a doctor. And you telling them to go see one is rude and insensitive. Does that make too much sense for you?
Again, I doubt the sincerity of those claiming the current joke causes medical distress. It is simply hyperbole to try to make a point they don’t like it. Label me insensitive all you want. I don’t care because I don’t buy it.
Everyone here that doesn’t like it will get over it. They can threaten to quit the game all they want but at the end of the day they will still log in.

This is a really bad ’event".
Looks bad, especially the combat animations, and the constant sounds my character makes are really irritating.
I had been wondering what I was going to do tonight. It looks like playing game has been taken off the table for me. Hell, if I had know this was coming, I wouldn’t have picked up some gems earlier today…
It isn’t an event and was not intended to be. It is a April Fools for one day. They do this kind of thing every year. You will live trough it I promise.
I submit these two shots..
The first was just funny. I call it, “A night after Taco Bell.” The second is a bobble head with the air plane.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
HAHA enough with they hyperbole and making stuff up. If it gave you a headache after a few minutes you need to see a doctor. Poor customer service? What? Where does this include customer service? Again, if you don’t like it that is fair but don’t get all off the wall to try to make your point.
VERY insensitive of you. Maybe the person actually DOES have a medical condition and you send them to the doctor?

Funny for 5 minutes now please turn it off. Making my game unplayable. Giving me a headache and poor customer service.

This came up last year as well with the bobble heads. It is one day. You will live. Is it a pretty boring joke? Yes
Looks that way.
so what about players who are buying guilds to transfer to their server for WvW purposes? I’ve heard on several occasions that DB and Mag (most likely others too) have put together over 1500 gold as a community to pay for people’s server transfer costs. Then those guilds usually cover off times that the server is lower on population to keep objectives.
Perhaps they could add the ability to gift a transfer as a guild upgrade of sorts. That way, guilds could pool gold toward the upgrade then gift it to the person of their choice. That way the gold withdrawal limit would not be in effect. Just an idea, a good one if I say so myself.
The REAL problem with this limit is that gold sellers and hackers won’t be stopped at all. They will just buy something expensive on the trade post and mail that instead!
It will certainly put a wrench in their works.
Certainly?
In original GW we had ecto-based economy, with prices in z-keys and armbraces as well.
But yea, that will never happen again? lol
Putting a break on 500 gold will not stop hackers and gold sellers. I am sorry, that’s just a fact.
GW1 didn’t have a trading post. So all trades were player to player. With the new system in GW2 this severely limits player to player trades due to the gold limit. So, say player A goes to a gold selling site and buys 1,000 gold worth of what ever item from the gold seller they have 2 choices. Place those items on the TP (if they can afford the 5% listing fee), wait for them to sell, hope they sell for the same value they were trying to pay for gold, lose the 10% exchange fee or do a unsanctioned player to player trade, risk getting ripped off and if not ripped off waiting for 2 weeks to get all their gold.
So yes, the new system makes life much more difficult for gold sellers and buyers. The GW1 economy is very different from the GW2 economy.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
These versions are account bound. I just got one.
I have to say that is pretty lame. Horrible BLC RNG on top of making them account bound so the people that got them and don’t want them can’t sell them and the people that want them can’t buy from sellers on the TP. That’s just sad.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Alert-In-Game-Mail-Scams/
You reported them and that was the right thing to do.

3. This does nothing to prevent the RMTs from doing business as they will just trade in valuable items instead of gold as many have mentioned in this thread.
I disagree. If someone goes to a gold selling site and they see, “Pay us real money and we will send you items that you can sell on the TP for gold” people might think twice. Yes certain items maintain some degree of value, but there is still some market fluctuation. So the actual gold value of those items will vary. Not to mention they would have to factor in the trading post fees as part of the item value. Most people that want to take the gold buying shortcut from those sites just want a quick buy for an absolute gold value to cheat the system. They won’t want to hassle with selling their items bought via RMT on the TP and have to wait for them to sell. Not to mention the gold buyers may not even have enough gold to list those high value items to start with.
If a gold buyer wants 1000g, the RMT seller will likely be expected to give them an amount they can instantly sell on the TP for 1000g after fees. Which means the RMT seller will need to send them 15% more of the item. This adds more layers of work and cost to their business model, and an inconvenience/discouragement to their customers.
Hmm… Maybe something is going on with your web browser that is causing this. I’ve submitted several tickets and never seen what you described. Perhaps try an alternate browser or updating your current one.
Can an you post a screen cap of what you are seeing? If you can make sure you edit out any account information such as your email that might be displayed.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Rest assured if you have been playing since launch or beta and have been smart with your gold, 500g is not a large sum…
Anet’s data has already shown that the 500g rule affects a very minuscule amount of people.
500G may seem like an entirely arbitrary number, but I guarantee it is not. I took a look at our mail data (believe me, you guys really like mail and there is a lot of data) and set the value based on that. At 500G, it is not only functionally effective, but also it will only impact 0.175% of our players during an entire month’s worth of mails (if an account would hit the restriction once per month/30 days).
Please understand I am only playing devil’s advocate here…
I understand you are trying to play devil’s advocate but this just goes to show what I have posted a few times in this thread. Some people are just complaining just to complain even though the new policy is likely to never affect them.
So you just save for the sake of saving then…
Yep, I’m investing in my long term future and the future of my family for when I am no longer able to earn income. My savings do not get touched no matter what I want to buy. Trust me, I’ve been tempted at times when I saw something I really wanted but short term gains rarely pay off.

I am going to log into the game and transfer all the gold in my personal guild bank to my wallet. That is obviously what ArenaNet wants.
Why would you not have done that the day the wallet was added? Or even before that, why was this gold not simply in your account bank?
I’ve not seen anyone give a valid reason as to what purpose this serves and why it should continue being supported. This functionality is useful to active guilds, but I don’t see why a personal guild needs to be used as gold storage.
I am curious if anyone on this thread who is arguing against the logic of people putting their gold into a personal guild bank has ever had a savings account in RL…
No one is arguing against the benefit of a personal guild bank to save. However, if you are pulling over 500 gold a week from your personal guild bank you are not really using it as a saving account are you? No, you are using it more like an alternate checking account. I have several savings accounts in real life, and I use it for just that, saving. I never even consider taking funds out because I’m doing just that saving for my future. Your IRL example does not match with in game examples.
This scenario- I am saving for a precursor… I’ve slowly been squirreling gold away into “my savings account” personal guild bank for the EXACT same reason I would use a savings account, big ticket/dream items. Normally it sells for 850 gold so that is my saving target… Suddenly I see one listed for 700g, around 150g less than I ever have before and within my saved up amount. I pop a bankers express or run to a bank to withdraw and claim my prize praising how lucky I am to find such a deal… oh wait… I now have to wait a week… 3 hours later my great deal sells to someone else that isn’t me… sorry but my RL example is VERY applicable…
No your IRL example is not applicable. In real life, there is often a delay between transferring funds from a savings account to a spendable account. Like this new system. If you have funds you want easy access to on a whim to buy things you put those funds in a checking/debit account.
If you think you might want to buy a precursor when a good deal pops up, keep your gold in your account wallet and practice some self control. The new system does not stop you from that.
By the way, if your post is well thought out there is really no need to use all caps for certain words.

I create groups to share my home instance for free and NEVER ask for tips so people don’t feel obliged or awkward at the end like most people try to make them feel when they say right away, “Tips Appreciated”. I spent over a thousand gold and want to share it with people out of my own volition and generosity and then I’m made out to be like someone who’s breaking the rules. Anet claims to be all about the friendly atmosphere and it’s coop community but then makes a rule like this.
If it is that important to you start a guild based on access to home instances and invite people that way. It is a win-win. You start a guild and make lots of long term friends and can allow them access to your home instance.
However, as stated, the LFG tool is not the place to advertise access to portals. Your intentions might be pure, but unfortunately this is a case where others have ruined it for everyone else as people would find ways to use it as a workaround to monetize access.

knip
I think this is the only response you will recieve about your situation. Such things are not allowed and strictly prohibited.
Anet may choose to be lienient, but such things can certainly result in a ban for all participating members.
Good luck!
The article you quote also forbids guild auctions, guild sweeps and several other guild activities that are used by many guilds. So it is a little bit silly to use this argument. Yes, you are right that this will be ArenaNet’s answer. But that does not make it a good answer.
500G may seem like an entirely arbitrary number, but I guarantee it is not. I took a look at our mail data (believe me, you guys really like mail and there is a lot of data) and set the value based on that. Looking more directly at those transactions, a large majority (98.228%) of those mails are being sent by RMT or compromised accounts (after selling off everything of value on an account).
Why are you using % of players and % of mails in above answer? That only confuses most readers. You should have used one or the other. Information that uses this kind of confusing figures are normally a sign of fraud. Coming from someone responsible for security this strikes me as odd.
I am going to log into the game and transfer all the gold in my personal guild bank to my wallet. That is obviously what ArenaNet wants.
That’s a little far fetched conclusion. Percentages are great indicators.
I would like to point out that all accounts are not active. How many accounts are either banned, unused or otherwise not sending mail? I am going to guess at least 50% of global “accounts” are basically inactive either permanently or at least for a long period of time.
This will make the number of affected players seem substantially lower, as a percentage of the player base, than it actually is.
I’d be willing to bet they factored this in their data collection. It would not be hard to exclude inactive accounts as a factor. They would simply have to review transactions over time spent in game and negate all accounts that have not been active over X amount of time for their study. It would only make sense to do so when making a decision such as this.

Someone’s gonna get mad. XD
Nah, those sets were already leaked on the forum a few hours ago and that was probably the catalyst of this thread. It seems the post leaking them got removed.

Exactly. And as I mentioned above (you caught me pre-edit), a RMT gold buyer may not even have enough gold to list those high value items due to TP fees. If they did, they probably would not be trying to buy gold via RMT.

I had to create an account to write, cause i’m ultra dissapointed to this change.
Why did you have to create an account just to post? If you have a valid GW2 account you already have forum access. That is unless you had another account that has been banned from the forum for some reason.
If they go towards outfits in gem store and armor in game I think that would be the best way for the game to go.
Personally I think a mix of all 3 would make a nice balance. Outfits, occasional gem store armor (the flame kissed set was very popular), and in game acquisition. Yes, it would indeed be more work. However, I don’t like outfits because they become generic with no mix and match option, some armors in game I don’t enjoy doing the tasks to acquire, but if an occasional armor set pops up in the gem store I like I will certainly buy it.
It seems after the wardrobe system Anet started to step away from gem store armors. Probably because people were no longer required to buy multiple sets for alts. That and it takes much more work to develop gems store armor sets for all weight classes as opposed to outfits. A nice rotation between the 3 options, outfit, gem store armor skins, and in game skins I would welcome.
