I don’t think it is fair that players can spend in game gold to buy gems. I am a very casual player and don’t generally spend the time to make much gold. I had to do real work for real money to buy gems. NOT FAIR!!!!

Of course I’m being sarcastic. I don’t care how people get gems as long as it is within ToS.

Now if I am competing with someone within the TP to sell mats and they used 12 players at one time to get them in significantly less time than it took me I would think that sucked but I’d live with it.

Okay this is getting silly with talking about the fairness of buying gems. A couple of points.

An easy example of how this could be exploited. Player A spends say 2 minutes to go to a resource node and one click gets 4 mats and can’t get anymore from that node. Player B with his 12 accounts uses 1 key to navigate 12 players to the same resource node, one click to have them all hit the resource node and gets 48 mats. That person then mails them to his “main” giving in essence 1 player 48 mats for the same effort it would take 1 person to get 4.

I’m rather skeptical why one person would want to play 12 accounts anyway but that is allowed so whatever.

Final line is that the developers put this rule in place for a reason. I don’t think they were just throwing darts one day and said, “Hey lets make it harder for multiboxers because I think it is silly.”

There are rules in GW2 that I don’t necessarily care for but that’s fine. I agreed to the ToS so I can either live with it, break the rules and get banned or stop playing.

I play 12 Guild Wars 2 accounts …

All the lack of follow function and rule in place to stop sending one key press to many accounts does is stops the game from making more sales.

But you have 12 accounts so obviously they have gotten some sales from you.

One thing you have not done to reinforce your argument is to explain exactly why you want to use this function. How do you plan to benefit from it and enhance your game experience? Do you want to just be able to run maps with yourself? Do you want to farm resource nodes with your accounts at the same place at the same time to get multiple drops then transfer them to your main? Why are you so adamant about being able to do this? Please tell us how keybinding your now 12 accounts will make your game more fun and enhance the gaming experience with your fellow gamers?

Very good point, just like having no macros, no follow system and when the game was released until today, no reporting system had to be put into place while ArenaNet didn’t have to form a support team to stop the rule breakers. Yea the layer of protection worked well…. NOT!

Breath… I didn’t say it was fool prof but it could help reduce the instances of false bot reports. Since there is no /follow function people may see this and think it is a bot.

At this link https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post1532762

There is reference to this in the Multi-boxing section:

you may not program your keyboard to perform functions on more than one account at a time.
a. For example, if you press W on your keyboard to move forward, a single character on a single account should move forward. The keystroke or mouse click should not perform functions on more than one account.

So the question is, why does this rule for Guild Wars 2 which doesn’t exist in any other Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) is here?

Because the same technology that would make an honest multi-boxing player’s life easier can also be used for more nefarious reasons. If you are looking to stop large scale farming operations then the unfortunate side effect is stopping the guy who simply wants to “solo” a dungeon.

That was kind of my guess as well. I think it may have something to do as an extra layer of protection to help Anet differentiate between bots and players multi boxing. Having a rule against a tactic that may look like a bot to some people helps reduce the number of reports about bots and the number of times they have to task an employee to review it.

There is a reason the sims sold something like 150 million copies, just saying :P

That’s not a valid argument because you are comparing two different target audiences. I bet there are not many, if any, people playing the sims posting messages that they want to have swords and run around maps slaying monsters and doing dungeons as well as build their cities. Then at the end of a day go into a WvW and start fighting players from other servers.

At the end of they day this game works in a manner to accommodate as many play styles as possible but can never accommodate everyone.

I see a guild hall as something that would be a good place for RP guilds and to allow guild members to duel. I can understand the argument that guild halls might reduce the amount of players in the “outside” part of the world but I doubt every guild member would spend all of their playing time inside a guild hall. Also what is the point of having every player in the game hanging out LA when most people are just running past each other anyway? If anything it would reduce lag for some people.

Guild Wars 2 - How I see the game.

I always thought video games were for fun and that’s what I use them for. I do understand there are gamers that take it much more seriously and want 18 hours a day of game play mixed with Mt. Dew and nachos ( I tease).

I like the idea that I don’t feel obligated to play every day and part of that is not having a monthly subscription. I can go a whole month without playing if I want and I’m not really losing anything.

Some people like to race to level cap as fast as they can and then hit PvP/WvW and I don’t see a problem with people doing that either if that is their style of play. Some people want to get as, in game, wealthy as possible and have all the coolest gear. I don’t have a problem with that either aside from when people complain about it being too hard to gain wealth. Part of the process of gaining wealth is playing the game.

The only thing I have found but is trivial to me is the claim that anyone can play WvW no matter their level. While technically true that a level 2 can jump into WvW if they want, with the green arrow and lack of skill slots/traits etc. they are not going to last long. I think this is one of those things that encourage players to race to 80 as fast as they can and skip over a lot of game content. I don’t really see a way to fix this aside from tiered WvW servers and that doesn’t seem realistic.

My over all impression as a newb (playing 2 weeks) is the game does offer a lot for every type of player. Plus sometimes I think it is good for games to encourage people to take a break from time to time and experience the outside world.

Is there a 'cadence' to jumping into WvW?

in Players Helping Players

I don’t see how your wanting to enter WvW and try to learn the aspects of it should be a problem. I understand your not wanting to kind of undermine some unwritten rule and have people disappointed with you. However you have every right to enter WvW, PvP as everyone else.

There are already people taking up spots in WvW by setting up dueling areas where there isn’t really an attempt to play the actual WvW. It just happens to be the only place in the game right now where people can organize dueling. Although this is usually done in a rather benign area of the map, those engaged in the dueling even are taking traditional WvW spots. It is somewhat controversial and you can read more about it here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Unofficial-Dueling-Area-in-WvW-Look/first

So I think if other players feel they have the right to do this then you have the right to jump in and participate any time you want. I am on the fence on the dueling issue myself but I don’t do much WvW.

Can I buy a mini for a friend somehow?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I’m not suggesting we should be able to trade gems as an in-game currency.

I was thinking of it more as a ‘gift’ option on the gem store. Where you can currently click to buy gems and have them added to your account you could instead pick to gift gems and pick a name from your friends list to give them to. Then you pay as normal and the gems appear on their account as if they’d bought them.

I suppose someone could demand that people have to “gift” them gems in return for in-game items (especially if they’re controlling the supply) but if they really wanted to do that they could already do the same thing with Paypal – demand that someone pays them in real-money and then they send the item by mail.

Which I’m pretty sure is against the EULA (and possibly also illegal since all items in this game are Anet’s intellectual property and you can’t sell things you don’t own) and would get you banned. Which would be even more likely if the real-money transfer was done through an in-game option to gift gems because Anet would be able to track it.

I suppose I misunderstood your post, sorry. I think the best way to handle this would be to simply allow players to buy things like minipets, skins, transmutation stones etc.. and give them as gifts to their friends. You could add a little more fun to their game. For example, guilds could give a member a surprise gift for their birthday, or for contributions to the guild, or just for the heck of it.

This would be more fun than just giving a guild member gold to buy gems then buy something. It’s kind of like it is more fun to try to find a gift for someone that fits their personality or something they have talked about wanting instead of giving gold and saying, “Go buy yourself something nice.” Of course that would be an option as well if someone wanted to do that.

It is rather unfortunate that people will always try to find ways to abuse the system as it causes problems for honest players.

Another thing to solve this is if you TAKE things from Guild Stash, you won’t be able to leave the guild for 1 week.

That wouldn’t necessarily stop what happened to the OP. So the guy loots the bank, turns off guild chat or representation, joins another guild since you can be in more than one at a time or whatever and goes about his business.

at least you can remember his gamer tag and deal with him using his tag accordingly.

don’t underestimate the power of social media.

I would like to think that if you let them into the guild to start with and allow access to the guild bank then you should have already made note of his gamer tag.

And as for the social media thing I have seen mentioned a few times related to this topic, that is opening a whole other can of worms and is somewhat hypocritical. I mean if you allow someone into your guild with an open bank and they take the items and you start cyber stalking/bullying them you may be setting yourself up for your own problems. Plus so many people in this thread keep talking about how important it is to be nice to each other and be a good member of society. Doesn’t that include two wrongs don’t make a right?

but allowing him not to leave as soon as he takes everything from the stash makes a room for diplomacy. You can still talk to him by noting his tag and his whereabouts. this also prevents from making a mistake pinpointing who took what say if another member decides to leave for whatever reason the guild the same time that the looting and leaving happened.

the shaming is just a deterrent. a warning. that if you misbehave, there will be consequences.

So what happens if you join a guild and take an item they offered then the guild starts giving you a hard time, within ToS, and you want to leave? You are stuck.

just return the item that you took? it’s that easy.

and you won’t be stuck. you only need to wait 1 week.

and no one won’t be an kitten to you if you didn’t do anything wrong to them.

I’m sorry but in my opinion if Anet has to incorporate some new rule every time someone got their feelings hurt because someone did something they didn’t like then there would be so many rules all you could do is walk around the map at some point. I feel like with some of the name issues and other things I have read that it is already a bit too strict.

They incorporate a lot of banned words in names and such to help avoid people from getting their feelings hurt or to avoid controversial issues such as religion. What about alcoholics that play the game and the in game alcohol? What if they drink some in game alcohol and then that triggers them to get loaded in real life. Should they remove alcohol from the game?

What about people that love bunnies. Maybe their feelings get hurt when they see another player kill a helpless rabbit. Let’s remove rabbits from the game too. The list could go on forever.

I am certain that when the guild bank system was developed it was apparent that someone could indeed join a guild and loot it if it was a wide open bank. Obviously they don’t see it as a problem or they would have done something to eliminate that risk to start with.

These are all the rules we have to follow:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-user-agreement/

I couldn’t see anything about draining a bank dry

Don ‘t quote me LOL. I’ve been on the “it’s not technically” a violation side of the debate all along. I don’t agree with all the people with their pitchforks screaming “Get him! Report him!”

Anyway this whole topic is getting a bit strung out since the OP pretty much said that although it sucked he learned a lesson and will move on. The only thing left for this thread to accomplish is to educate other guilds that might have an open door bank policy as well.

Hmm. They have to sell something in the gem store. Stuff like emotes, town clothes, backpack skins seems OK to me. I’d rather they didn’t sell things like, oh, quick slots for utility skills, or other stuff that is more central to game play.

Businesses have the right to set up their business plans however they wish. Consumers can vote with their wallets. Saying something like, “I want this feature but don’t want to pay for it.” seems like more of an entitlement issue than a legitimate complaint.

^^^This

Personally I’d load up the gem store with every non-essential in game item I could think of no matter how small the audience for it may be. If I thought enough people were willing to buy it to cover the cost of development plus earn money it would be in the gem store.

There would be no real way to verify what the person in question did since chat logs, screen caps and so forth can be faked easily.

This website or group could employ the photoshop experts to screen and detect fakery.

I had to pause for a second before I responded so as to not come off as a kitten. Who’s going to pay for these people? It would take more than one if the site was the least bit popular. Secondly it would have to be a really good expert. So okay let’s hire some photoshop experts and increase the price of gems to pay for the extra cost. Is that something you are willing to see happen because someone wasn’t nice to their guild?

If it is a 3rd party website are you willing to pay to view the site and be active on it to pay for your photoshop expert?

Of course a guild could do the reverse and say require the guild member to donate two items of a lower level to get a higher spec item and then kick them after the donation and not give them the item they wanted. The same thing would happen to the guild at some point and people would learn not to join them.

I don’t know, I guess I don’t like the idea of rule upon rule added just because someone took advantage of a guild that was a bit too open with their guild bank. There are already a ton that in my opinion are a little too strict.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

You could send him the money through paypal and then he could use his paypal account to buy the mini.

It would be good if Anet let us gift gems without having to buy a gem card (which isn’t always available). It might be a relatively niche service but I imagine it would also be relatively simple to implement. (If they did I’d recommend NOT allowing people to type the recipients name in though. Enough people get it wrong with in-game mail, I don’t envy Anet’s support if people are able to screw up spending real money too.)

That would be a slippery slope and open up a whole possible can of worms that could mess with the games economy. People could easily abuse it.

Imagine a group buys up all of a specific high demand item available in TP and then tells people if they want it they have to pay in gems. Suddenly you have gems as another form of currency in game which could be a problem and could then increase the need for players to spend RW money for actual game play gear the want to have for the meat and potatoes of game play. I’m not talking about having a miniature and items like that. I mean armor and weapons and such.

I imagine there is a good reason that they don’t allow gems to enter the game as a trade item.

The game's economy

I read this article on the economy the other day and found it interesting. It’s a very long article covering pretty much all aspects of the economy so I won’t try to summarize it all here but here is one thing I found interesting:

With the exception of craft materials, the pre-endgame item economy is broken. As an example, I can buy a L39 coat of green (good, better than blue) quality level for 112 copper coins on the auction house. This is not a rare low sell. As I look at the auction house there are over 1000 items of this type selling at this price. I can sell the same item to a vendor for 111 copper coins. Over 1000 players took the time to sell this item on the auction house at a premium of 1 copper coin over what any npc vendor would pay them. Given that the auction house charges 5%, these players are actually losing at least 4% of the value of their goods by joining the economy. Goods are so badly flooded that it is much cheaper to just sell your equipment and buy new equipment instead of repairing it when it gets damaged.

alcopaul makes a very good point. In this day and age of online persona proliferation, it’s usually extremely easy for someone to track down who you really are via Facebook, Twitter or other social media. From there, they can then make your life hell.

What’s more, countries like South Korea have already passed laws governing online behaviour, making it quite possible to be charged and arrested for things you do online. It’s a safe bet that other countries will soon follow suit.

In short, don’t be a Bad Kitten online, because it could very well return to bite you in the rear one day.

Ummm… No, no one is going to get arrested for looting a guild bank in GW2 that they were given access to. If that starts happening then it’s time for me to grab my bug out bag and hit the woods because the world would have certainly gone to hell at that point.

Actually the laws you are talking about are more related to cyber stalking and cyber bullying and are more likely to target things like FB griefing you mentioned.

But yes I agree that it’s not a good idea to act like a total kitten online and in game and I agree that the person that did the looting was not playing very nice.

I agree what happened wasn’t cool of the “offender” to do. However, I see a couple of problems on the other end. It seems like the member screening process wasn’t done well enough. I know a lot of guilds will take just about anyone that asks just to have numbers. However this is when guilds get in trouble and end up with a lot of bad personalities in the guild. One of the things I look for in a guild is how well they “interview” me because this is usually an indicator that they run a pretty tight guild that is well organized.

Secondly, as stated don’t give just anyone the keys to your house and then act shocked when you come home and all your stuff is gone.

I don’t get all the people saying report!! report!! This isn’t Happy Tree Friends MMO there are going to be some, well a lot, of people that just are not very nice. It seems like every time someone mentions someone else doing anything even slightly unfriendly the report! flags start going up.

Just red flag the guy and try to spread the word among other guilds that the guy is trouble and to stay away from him. Of course you might need to be careful with this too because he could always say you are trying to grief him by trying to trash his name. Report!!

Not enough emotes & I don't like them being sold

I don’t get it either. If I go to an amusement park where the gate fee allows me to ride all the rides as many times as I want I don’t expect the concessions and souvenirs to be free too. I don’t need a t-shirt to enjoy the rides but hey if I like it then I’ll fork out some money.

Many of the things you can pay RW money for cost less than if GW2 had a monthly subscription around the same price as other pay to play MMOs. It is part of the business model in place of a monthly fee to sell in game perks. If you have ever played some free game apps on iPhone or such it works the same way. You can still play but if you want to enhance the experience or get better “boosts” you buy coins or what not.

How to get refund on laurels

If they started doing refunds for misfires on in game purchases they would have to hire 200 people just to deal with all the requests. I know it sucks but I would wager that everyone has made at least one huge mistake on a purchase. I do it constantly because I get in a hurry and don’t pay attention. That’s my fault, not the games.

I went to the wrong waypoints 16 times today can I get my travel money back?

If the guy that jacked the bank was playing a Thief then he could claim role-playing.

I don’t think reporting it will get very far when it probably went something like this:

“Hey welcome to our guild. Here is our guild bank if you need something.”

“Thanks! Hey, I just noticed I need all of it because I need more money. Appreciate it guys. Oh and I decided I don’t like your guild anymore. You don’t have enough in your guild bank. Later.”

Still sucks but I suppose the guild has learned something new about game play. Heck, I rip myself off all the time buying the wrong stuff, way pointing to the wrong place and the list goes on. Each time I learn something new about what not to do.

Terminology

You should have played 1st Edition AD&D. like eight or so different classes, Fighter, Ranger, Paladin, Thief, Assassin, Cleric, Druid, Magic-User (yes, not a mage, a magic-user), Illusionist, Monk, and if you wanted to be a Bard you had to be a Fighter first, then a Thief, then go to a Bard college… and every class had a different title each level until 11 or so… Magic-user titles went something like Apprentice, Wizard, Thaumaturgist, Sorcerer, Conjurer…

And then there were class levels, spell levels, dungeon levels… So your 5th level cleric cast a 2nd level spell on the 3rd level of the dungeon…

It wasn’t until something like 10 years after it was released that they started to standardize things with 2nd Edition. They dropped some classes like monk and assassin and gathered everything under the class groups Warrior, Rogue, Priest and Wizard. Then they added kits to the classes and started making a mess of everything again.

Fun times.

+1 Man I feel old now. Many many late nights rolling die on a table. Back then I could have never imagined MMO but man I would have loved it probably more then than I do now.

I think it would be a fun experiment to get a bunch of people that have only ever played MMO and put them at a table with a DM, a bunch of multi sided die, and some grid paper to see how they react.

Gem Store purchases increase Magic Find

They also watch your posts on their forum. If you post negatively towards ANet they lower your MF %. If you post positively towards them they increase the %.

:P

GW2 best game ever! Ever! The programers that tweak the magic finds are the best most super brilliant programers ever. GW2 should immediately be put into the video game hall of fame. I have never seen a so perfectly scripted MMO in all my years gaming. Pure perfection. I have no idea how they pulled it off.

P.S. I’m still low level so I could use some kick kitten gear. I’ll be grinding in a few hours. Just saying..

A few things I learned that I should have known from the start. I thought most mail was story spam so never checked/read it and the mails usually include coin.

I don’t really get the economy, at least for low levels since I’m still under level 30, and found that there is really no need to buy gear that often. Most of what I need drops often, unless your really really think spending 45 copper on a chest piece to gain an extra 3 points is important.

Carry harvesting tools from the start. They drop in slots on the hero page and don’t take up room that way. Mats actually seem to have value in the game so it is worth it to harvest them every time you run across a node.

Don’t worry about filling your bags up with mats. You can right click on them in your inventory and send them to your bank from where ever you are without actually having to go to the bank.

The crafting stations actually work as a bank too so you don’t have to run all over the map to get to a bank.

You can use salvage kits to break down worthless items for mats. I generally break down about half of what I don’t need and put the rest on TP for a few extra coin depending on the item. Once again I don’t get the economy and it seem the TP isn’t going to get you much unless you are flipping items. Too many blues drop in my opinion, toss in a 5% magic find bonus and you will never be short on blues.

Visit all the points of interest and vistas as you go near them for XP.

Strafing and dodging is an important tactic in the game instead of just standing in place mashing skill keys.

That’s just a few off the top of my head. Welcome and have fun!

About that "unofficial dueling"

in WvW

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

If players are “creating their own content” by having fight clubs that you and others don’t like, why not “create your own content” and form groups to go bust up the fight clubs. It’s WvW so why not? While you would not make friends you would accomplish your goal and your custom “content” would be fight club busters. Problem solved. People get to spar and you get your own form of content playing WvW police.

I don’t condone this because I don’t see a problem with sparing. I just thought I would toss that bone out there.

Trading Post Problems? Hanging/Crashing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Has anyone else noticed a problem with the TP recently? A few times a day it will either hang on me or crash completely. It just started this recently.

The first time it stuck on the TP screen, no loading circle, just froze and I could not close it or even exit the game. I had to reboot my iMac using the power button.

Other times the TP loading circle just spins indefinitely but I can close the TP window walk away or what not but on return it does the same thing until I exit the game completely and reload it.

Once today it crashed the whole game and I got a 500 fatal error.

Just wondering if anyone else has been having this problem?

I don't know where to train

Just to chime in… I’m a newb myself but I play a human and started crafting with leather. It seems like the mats drop a lot early on from killing mobs, salvaging items I didn’t need that don’t sell for much. Once I got started I leveled pretty quick. It seemed to be the easiest craft to start with.

If you don’t have one you can get salvage kits from vendors and then double click it then click on the items you want to salvage. Some drops will say they are salvage items and you can salvage non soul bound weapons and such. For example if you get a leather boot drop and don’t need it or it isn’t worth selling you can salvage it for leather. In my opinion the experience value from crafting is often more valuable than selling it for say 25 copper at the TP or less to a vendor.

Discovery took me a bit to figure out but then I learned if I made both parts for say, gloves and then made insignias for the buff then dropped all three into the discovery panel I could make the buffed gloves and so forth.

You can find craft trainers in Claypool in Queensland map. I’m sure there are others near by but that was the easiest to find for me and you should be able to get there at level 7 okay.

Well that’s all I know for now, just wanted to share my thoughts.

New to GW2 and New Guardian Virtues?

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to explain that for me. I am L18 right now and was wondering because I never seemed to need to use them aside from having them passive. It seems like they are best suited for groups and in kind of emergency situations or when my party needs a quick boost in a fight.

I have not done much in groups so far. I tried WvW once and got killed pretty quick. I’ll play around with them when I’m in a group again to figure out the timing for them and such.

Once again thanks. Oh and Komayo your English is very good.

New to GW2 and New Guardian Virtues?

in Guardian

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Hi,

I just started the game last week. I have decided my guardian is going to be my main. I have a quick question about the virtues, the F keys.

I noticed they put a boon at the right and stay there all the time after I press the f keys. I get the feeling I’m suppose to do something more with them though but I don’t usually press the F keys in combat because of the slow cool down rate.

What am I missing here or not doing and what are the best ways to use virtues and when?

Thanks and happy guarding.

Leveling

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Well they kind of go together in a way because the hearts are spread across the map. Here is how I started.

I started doing the first closest hearts to the starting area. Then I spent some time grinding mobs about my same level to level up one more and practice with my weapon skills. I also had some extra money so I bought other weapons available for my class and experimented to find the weapon skills I liked. Then I started to explore the areas closest to the hearts I completed, specifically the waypoints so I could travel easier. Then I just started working across the map from there.

You are right, the game is about the way you want to play it. I’m at L15 now and have only done a few parts of the living story because I get bored of listening to all the talk and running back and forth (but that’s just me). So I decided I’d just complete the Queensland map first. So I started doing hearts that were close to my level, vistas, bonus skill points and so forth and have had a lot of fun doing it. I always jump in on dynamic events I run across. I started crafting which gives good XP too.

I found it best just to head out and start looking for things to do to see what aspects of the game I enjoy the most. There is really no huge risk at low level because if you die you don’t lose anything aside from maybe some armor damage which is fairly cheap to repair at low level.

So if you explore you will probably end up doing hearts along the way and if you do hearts you will end up exploring as you head to them.
