Phishing Emails Increasing?

As a precaution (probably too late) I would not use the same email address to register for 3rd party sites related to GW2, message boards and such. Usually these types of sites are where the emails are harvested (stolen) from so they know where to send the phising emails. They are not just sending emails related to GW2 to random email addresses they ran across. I have never used the email that I registered GW2 with for any other related sites and have never received a phising mail to that address.

I think they accidentally left something out of the May 28 patch notes. I believe it should have read something like this:

Mac OS X Customers

  • It is rumored that customers have purchased and are using the Guild Wars 2 Mac OS X client. We are unable to verify this at this time. However, we believe that there may even be a Mac Tech Support Forum hidden some place inside our Guild Wars 2 Forums.
  • As we cannot locate the ‘mysterious’ Mac Tech Support Forum there will not be any information disclosed regarding progress, lack of progress, known bugs specific to the Mac OS X client, or our total lack of intrest in the Guild Wars 2 Mac OS X client.
  • However, those rumored to have purchased the Mac OS X client will still be able to purchase gems with real world money. If these customers do indeed exist we highly encourage such behavior.

Now I need to login so I can buy that new harvesting tool to add to my collection.

I’m not even going to quote all that and simply say, “Your sources?” Okay, mystery sources are generally the roots of most conspiracy theories like the one you are trying to fester. You dug up an 8 day old thread just to type a bunch of stuff you can’t back up with facts yourself. Part of GW2’s business model is to sell gems for real money. How would suspending people who curse in chat make them more money? The less people in game the less people to buy gems.

I’m going to leave my response at that.

I’ll try to approach some of your questions but due to my own inexperience I can’t answer all.

There are no mounts. There are waypoints that once you have visited them you can open your map and click them to travel around faster. This does require a little bit of coin, aside from in main cities where it is free.

‘Quests’ are on your map as hearts. If you find an NPC on the map, the symbol looks like binoculars, they will show you more in your area. Also there are dynamic events that will show on the map with a big read circle. Usually these show up when you are close and they usually pop up around the hearts.

The other quest style is your personal story and the upper right of your screen should tell you where to go and what to do. On the map the location will show up as a yellow star.

As far as picking a profession in my opinion warrior or guardian are not bad to start with as you kind of start to find your way around. It really depends on what style of play you like. I like to mix it up so I have 5 alts.

Crafting is a good way to earn xp. You can switch between the different trades without losing progress in the previous ones. This is nice as it allows you to test them out. From my experience crafted items don’t sell for much on the TP. To craft you either need to harvest the mats or buy them from the TP. Crafting takes a little getting used to because you can discover different ‘recipes’ by dropping the crafted mats and things like sigils into the interface to see what turns up.

While we are on crafting you can send all of your harvested and found mats directly to your bank without going to the bank by clicking the cog wheel in your inventory interface. You can access your bank from the usual banks in town and also from any crafting station even if you don’t do that craft.

You will also have daily and monthly tasks to do which will get you some karma and laurels. You will probably spend those later as you start to level.

I have noticed that the human starter map, Queensdale, seems to be a bit more populated. I find this area an easier start spot so that may be why.

I hope this helped and welcome to the GW2 community!

Please conduct more surveys

in Suggestions

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Voluntary feedback is most often provided by individuals that are either very happy or very unhappy, more so the later. The individuals that are in the middle, say content, often don’t take the time to complete surveys and this is usually the majority of the population. This is why you often see surveys that offer a chance to win ‘X’ if you compete them. They are trying to get a better sample of all customers. A good example of this is Best Buy which often offers a chance at a reward to complete their survey.

Think about all the times you have purchased a product or service such as a hotel and there are survey cards. Most people don’t bother with them unless they were very unhappy or loved it. I feel that a lot of people that don’t have much to say about GW2 would just shrug it off.

This forum is sort of like a living survey created by the players. If you look most threads are complaints but the population of people posting is small compared to the overall population of players. Most people that stand in the middle simply don’t feel the need to take the time to participate.

Best starting area to level up?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I feel Queensdale is a good start area. I start all my alts there as the area seems easier to navigate and find your way around. There are a lot of events that show up and usually a good group working on them. Once I complete that map I start working the others and level up pretty fast.

I guest on TC all the time. In fact my guild’s host world is there. I only do PvE though. If I ever decide I get tired of clicking guest on each log in I suppose I’ll pay to move if it opens up.

It seems the difficult thing is when a server becomes popular due to certain aspects everyone wants on it and then the other servers get less attention from players. I’m fairly new myself but I’ve been talking to a few players on my server trying to get a little more RP oriented.

Strange new spawns in formally neutral areas?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

The centaur itself isn’t new. There is also an event that involves centaurs attacking that place. The event itself seems fairly rare I’ve only seen it around 3 times from beta until now despite spending a lot of time in that area.

Thanks I thought it seemed odd. Just this one centaur spawning inside over and over again. I’ve seen the single one outside attack the outside guards often but I don’t recall seeing it go inside unless a player pulled it. I’ve seen the centaur group attacks and cleared it out. I just didn’t see anything while I travled there that hinted at anything and there was no event showing up. It was just me two other players at the TP and the usual NPCs. Of course for some reason after the centaur killed all the NPCs it agroed me and not the others so I had to stop what I was doing.

Thanks for the info. I’ll see if it happens again tomorrow.

Strange new spawns in formally neutral areas?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like I am seeing some weird new spawn spots. The one that comes to mind I noticed today is in the TP north east of Alter Brook Vale in Queensdale. Since I’m an alt-aholic that has been my central area for TP transactions for awhile. I was there today and about every 2 minutes this centaur kept spawning inside and killing all the NPCs until I killed it. It was more of a pain in the rear because I kept having to pause what I was doing to kill it.

I have seen them around the outside but haven’t seen them inside unless someone pulled it in. It just kept spawning over and over right inside the fort. I don’t think an event chain had anything to do with it as I have spent so much time there in the past. Mostly it was just getting on my nerves because I was doing some serious shopping and had to keep remembering what I was doing.

It also seem like some areas the respawn rate has been in over drive as well. I mentioned something about this a while back with bandits, but I’m seeing it with other mobs as well in areas I have spent a lot of time in before.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed similar things.

Happy gaming!

Staff Models :(

JustTrogdor.7892

The major problem is the size.

I see a guy with a Greatsword with fire from hell and I look my boring pistols. =/

Some of that I think has to do with the race/size of the character. I have a human female thief with p/p Glyphics and I think they certainly stand out. I have some screen shots from side view while letting loose with unload and I think it looks pretty tough. I don’t think they could make the pistols look much bigger before they would appear a bit awkward.

A great sword is suppose to look big because it is suppose to be a large weapon with an intimidating look. To me a lot of the looks are dependent on the weapon type due to the base style of the weapon. In my opinion I wouldn’t want wield daggers the size of greatswords.

But I think I get what you are saying. When compared to a flaming greatsword they just don’t stand out as much. I don’t care for the look of a focus for the same reason and some of them just look stupid in my opinion.

Be happy man, pistol models are worse.

I think many of the pistols look pretty awesome. I just took a look at the gallery because I have not seen many of them yet and I like a lot of them. One of my favorites is the basic Glyphic pistol and I transmute the look to other pistols often.

However, like in the OP’s situation this is one of those things were many people will have different ideas what look good. Unfortunately it would be very hard to come up with a massive amount of models to suit everyone’s taste.

No, I play different professions all the time. It enhances my game experience to be able to change up so much. It seems odd to me that there is some indecision when it comes to playing another profession. This may seem rude but it isn’t like a real life career move. It’s easy to play for a bit and say, “Okay ‘X’ profession isn’t for me.” then try something else. I often find that when I switch back to an alt I took a break from I find more interesting ways to play it.

WTH didn’t we pay the full price of the product? And we paid to have a couple or reps FAMILIAR with macs? Sorry that answer is nothing to be to happy about

While it is some what nice that we at least got some response, thank you Kyllaa, I still wonder what is or isn’t going on. I get some impression that they put together the Mac client just to attract Mac users and then switched to a “We will work on it more if and when we have time.” train of thought. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy that there is a mostly functioning Mac client. I would not be playing GW2 at all if there wasn’t as my only PC has been stored away since 2009

It would however be nice to at least send somebody to this forum just to post a brief message regarding the current status of the Mac client. Even if they stopped in and said that no further development is going on at this time it would at least give us an idea.

Why do most players not respond to whispers?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

As some of the others stated, I simply do not like guild invites from random players I have never talked to in game. If I am working on, for example, a heart and get a whisper something like, “We are recruiting and would like you to join our guild. Most awesome cool, best ever, most fun ever guild. Really our guild is awesome. Did I mention that before? So please join our guild, it’s a pretty awesome and cool guild with lots of awesome and cool members.” I ignore it for a few reasons. I might be busy working on the task at hand. Or I don’t know you and never talked to you. I’m busy talking to someone I already know. I don’t have whisper on. I have whisper on but in the same window as /map and it got buried from all the other guild messages and I just didn’t see it. And many more reasons.

I’ve had many cases where I did decide to be polite and responded with something like, “Thanks for asking but I’m not interested at this time” and the individual keeps whispering me with things like, “Why not?” “You’ll like our guild” “Really you should join” “Please don’t ignore me I want to talk to you about it more.” I have found that not responding discourages this type of behavior. I’m probably not alone in this.

There is a forum here that might improve you chances of recruiting good guild members:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds

If you want to recruit and have quality members I feel there are ways to go about it aside from randomly whispering people. Post a detailed message in the guild forum and make sure you discuss what your guild is about and what the benefits are. When working with another player/players that are not in a guild at the end of your time together mention your guild and ask if they are interested. Spend some time helping someone not in a guild like a new player and then discuss your guild.

And while we are on this topic, if I see a /map guild request I also ignore it, especially if they are posting it several times in a short time span. Lastly, nothing bothers me more than getting guild spammed. I’ve had cases where the same person sent me guild requests over and over in a few minutes. No thank you.

Huge Mac Issue

I mean at idle my rMBP runs at about 110-125 F. And all of the drivers should be up to date because I only purchased the computer about a week and a half ago. I did just copy the .dat for GW2 and everything else from my computer via a drive but I will try the repair trick and everything else just to see.

Trog, I’m not sure if it shows the different temperatures. I will check that out and get back to you. What app are you running to show the temperature?

EDIT: I also looked for possible software updates and so far everything is up to date. Attempting to move on to steps 2 and 3.

iStat pro you can run it in the dashboard for quick access. It shows many stats regarding system performance. I’d check the GPU temp and see what’s going on there.

Huge Mac Issue

JustTrogdor.7892

That is a great idea. Right now I use SMC Fan Control which allows me to regulate how many RPMs my fans go and shows me the current temp of my computer in either C or F. I always feel that when I crash the computer is reaching about 180-190 F. I will start to keep a log like you said. When playing last night from a relatively low temp, after about an hour of playing I had a crash. I noticed the temp was at about that range but then quickly cooled off to about 160 and next time tried providing a little extra ventilation by propping up my laptop and had no other crash issues. More testing will follow with keeping the log.

Does your app show temps for various areas of your computer like hard drive temp, GPU temp (that’s probably an important one you want to monitor), ambient temp etc..? Those are helpful to know as well. From my experience 180-190 is running a bit hotter than you would like. 160 at idle is still pretty hot but not too bad. Of course I’m going off iMac numbers. I don’t use my Macbook for anything heavy duty so I’ve never looked at it.

Make sure you specify in each ticket that you are using OSX. Given my recent experience with a support ticket I recommend mentioning you are running the Mac client under OSX at least three times in your ticket.
