1. Not everyone can “work/grind hard enough”. We have the real life work/grind to put food on the table. Not enough time in the day.

I agree not everyone can “grind hard enough” due to real life obligations. I’m one of those people and I am highly in favor of people not using all their free time to play video games.

However, I don’t see any messages from Anet saying you only have ‘x’ amount of days to earn enough gold for gems. Everyone wants immediate gain but for most people that isn’t likely so they have to work, save and wait.

I want to reach level cap and have the best gear I can so I actually have a better chance of competing in WvW (the green arrow makes you an immediate target most of the time). Unfortunately it will take me a very long time because I have very limited free time. So is it unfair to me because some people can do it in a few days?

Cosmetic items such as skins/mini pets have no value as far as improving stats/game performance. They are account bound so you can’t sell them/trade them. The only value they have is the subjective value the individual places on them.

I don’t get the argument that Anet is greedy. Technically everything after the initial purchase of the game is free. It depends on the value of these items the individual puts on them. You never have to spend real money on gems. Personally I think that is pretty fair considering there is no subscription. If players feel that this ‘greed’ is out of hand they can vote against it by keeping your wallet closed.

I’d actually prefer a monthly subscription with some of these items dropping a bit more in game. But wait! That isn’t fair to the person that has less time to play because others play more and can get these items faster.

You might buy a weapon or armor skin with the hopes it will make you a special little snowflake, but – and you may find this hard to believe – some people buy skins solely because they like the way they look. Not everyone thinks like you.

Not everyone thinks like you either. I imagine that there are many players that want skins that are different than most others. I know that if I got a drop off an RNG and then it was suddenly in the gem store at cost I would be a bit disappointed.

But we’re not being milked. You don’t have to use the shop to play. I don’t see how that makes me an “unemployed PR” – I actually enjoy GW2, I don’t post just to “make my purchase seem worthwhile”.

If you’re paying a sub that’s being milked. We pay for exactly as much or as little as we want to. If you don’t like the price of x you don’t have to pay for x.

That said I’d love it if everything was token based instead of specific drops though (Also like in firefall, where everything is crafted and items degrade). There’s so much on loot tables, when I get a rare drop its a 1/100 chance of it being useful :p.

Also caring about being a “SPECIAL UNIQUE SNOWFLAKE” and feeling bad when you’re not is so immature. Grow up.

Not to mention that one doesn’t have to spend cash to buy gems because you can buy gems with in game gold. To me that seems like an extra perk because if you work/grind hard enough you never have to pay a dime for the items other people are paying for. So after the initial purchase of the game, everyone has the same access to all aspects of the game free or at cost should you elect to pay cash.

I think there is a hidden message in some of this debate related to wanting everything for free because “NCsoft is greedy because they are trying to make money.” As mentioned by others simple solution, don’t spend money if you don’t want to. Supply and demand will dictate what is sold for real money.

For all of you that want to buy all these skins direct consider this scenario.. They are all on the gem store buy direct. You can’t wait to get your elite new skin. You buy gems with money or (gold that you can earn in game at no cost other than time) get your skin and put it on. You head to LA and look around, everyone is wearing the same skin you have. Suddenly it doesn’t seem so special does it?

Interesting topic and I fall into a pure economic view on it. If people do not support it, then it would fail.

If you are so dead set against the moral failings of RNG, or gambling as some have called it (I’m still not convinced it’s gambling…you always recieve something in the boxes…it might not be what you want, but you recieve something), why not call for a gamewide boycott of gem purchases for a x week period? The decrease in monthly income will show them! (probably not, but hey…what can you say…you tried!)

Or request a refund immediately upon finding out this ‘immoral activity’ was in place? Personally, I haven’t bought a single RNG item…nor will I pay for the privilege to do so. I know it’s a suckers game, even bigger and more obvious than a monthly subscription. I will play the game, buy things from the store that are obtainable outside the boxes, and enjoy the skins others wear because they had the luck of the draw to get them.

BTW….Isn’t a truly democratic system wonderful? Everyone that buys 1 key for a chest has the exact same chance as the next guy to get a great drop.

Never.

Now see this makes more sense. He doesn’t like the RNG chests so he has decided not to buy them. That seems like the best way to deal with it in my mind. After all money does talk and if people stop buying the chests because they are unhappy with the model then the company will probably respond with a change. Imagine, supply and demand in action.

I doubt most shareholders care. They’re concerned about the size of the numbers on the checks they cash and how long those checks keep coming.

Well of course. That is the purpose of investing. I’d hate to invest in a company that wasn’t trying to make money. Since Korea is a large part of the NCsoft market I am willing to wager that there are many investors playing as we speak.

It’s simple. Anet uses RNG on everything because it makes money. I think it was Vayne that said above, MMO’s are now big business. Big business is there to do one thing, and that’s make money. Lots of it! Yes, they must support the development, pay the employees, ect., but the primary focus is to put cash in the shareholders pockets. From what I’ve seen over the past six months of GW2’s evolution, figuring out how to do that is job 1…..period. I call it plain old fashioned greed. That’s just my 2 cents.

If you were a shareholder you wouldn’t think that. At least I hope not. Although they are on the Korean exchange so unless you live there it is hard to buy shares. I looked in to it.

Oh and I just looked the NCsoft shares took a pretty big leap the last few days.

Power v Crit v Toughness v Vitality

JustTrogdor.7892

You’re following the right mentality when it comes to approaching vitality vs. toughness. Since I’m rather nubbish with my thief, I’d suggest you keep experimenting.

Follow my train of thought here: My Guardian runs less toughness than most guides recommend simply because I’m comfortable with my setup and can use him effectively. My elementalist on the other hand is more tanky than most non D/D builds out there since I’m still training my hands to dance on the keyboard and have less room for error. Generally the balance between offense/defense should fall where you feel comfortable, not strictly what some guides (or peoples’ opinions) state.

Guides are a good baseline to begin experimenting and even though most are for 80s you can roughly approximate their play-styles for lower levels as you work your way up. Thieves tend to be more of a full out damage machine (power/crit/critdmg) in what I’ve seen where you use stealth to flee or gain some breathing room. Mine’s also specced as such.

The road to 80 is your chance to experiment cheaply, take advantage of the opportunity and do it.

Thank you for your well thought out response to my message. I agree with the vitality over toughness and have gone that route as far as survivability. I still have a few significant +toughness, mostly in upgrade slots. So I am kind of wondering if I might shift a small portion of that to power to get the best out of my high crti percentage.

I suppose since I’m so new that I have not gotten it in my mind that this is the time to experiment. I keep forgetting that, unlike other MMOs I have played, most good items my level are relatively inexpensive and highly available.

I’ll play around with a lot of things including traits and skills. I also keep forgetting at my level it isn’t much to retrait. Who knows? With a lot of tinkering and patience maybe I’ll develop the first viable p/p/sb build

I agree with the toggle option. As far as feeling it isn’t necessary at all because an email was sent there could be problems with that as far as getting all players in the know.

Many people, like me have a separate email adress they use for registrations. These are often rarely viewed with the exception of password retrieval and such. I do this because many sites, even if you select not to receive emails will still mail you. Additionally some sites will sell your email even if they claim they don’t. I’ve have tested this many times with a new clean email address and registering with a few sites and it wasn’t more than 24 hours that I started getting mails from junk I never heard of.

Also some email clients are more sensitive to spam and will dump just about anything in the junk folder that isn’t whitelisted by the user or isn’t in someones contacts. This issue is also common when emails are being sent out in bulk. You have probably noticed when registering for an honest, well known site they often hint to check your spam folder and whitelist their address.

So my guess is this redundancy is to ensure that as many players as possible have received the news.

But yes a toggle feature would be nice. I also wish they would add a way have a toggle option to show frame rate on the mini map by the clock.

I think the mail being referred to is not an email but an in game mail.

Ahhh… My bad. I’ve been using the Internet for so long when he said email automatically triggers real world E-mail in my mind. From my early dial-up days with AOL I can still hear, “You’ve got mail!” in my head. I have not played GW2 long enough to make that connection.

I posted a similar comment, specifically related to the “It teaches kids to gamble” claim.

Its basically operating conditioning using a variable interval schedule. It is not uncommon at all and is used in marketing by major and small companies all the time. I see nothing wrong with it. I bought a few boxes today myself and only got some stuff I could sell for a few gold.

Other subscription based MMOs do the same thing using varaible reward in an effort to keep people going from month to month. If they dropped all the best stuff at a high percentage then everyone would have the best stuff over a short time and then people would lose interest because everyone was the same.

It’s the same reason some have the misconception that because player A got 2 < whatever > after 400 hours of play and player B played 1000 hours and only got one, that something is not right with the random configuration.

I think the gambling argument is often used in an effort to paint the RNG more ugly as a means to express frustration with system in place.

Unfortunately I don’t agree with the “Some people abuse it, so no one can do it” attitude – ironic when I live in the UK. All third-party programs are going to give an advantage in some way over someone who doesn’t also use it. If it was such a problem there wouldn’t be a grey area about it of ‘maybe this is ok to use, but then again maybe not’.

There was a similar discussion the other day from a player that wanted to use a single key command while multi boxing to control all his characters. He swore that he wouldn’t use it as an unfair advantage. Even if he was being sincere the problem is that other people would. In your situation the same applies. While your intentions may be to use it honestly, if they opened the gate, others would abuse it.

Unfortunately I doubt that Anet GMs have the time or the manpower to watch everyone using third party software to establish if they are doing it honestly or not. Therefore it is true, those that try to use 3rd party software for an unfair advantage have indeed spoiled it for those that may have honest intentions.

There are tons of examples in real life regarding things people can’t have or can’t do because “Someone messed it up for the rest of us.” Usually it was many more than one though.

Power v Crit v Toughness v Vitality

in Players Helping Players

I’ved been playing this dual pistol thief up to L27 now. I know it is the worst build for a thief but I am having fun with it. However, I’m wondering how to balance my + stats on gear.

Right now the way I have it set up is that I have a lot in crit percent. I think I’m about 73% crit chance without green arrow. I have done this for 2 reasons. One is that one pistol has a 10% chance to cause AOE fire on crit. The other reason is that I am doing mostly medium range with cutting lose with the unload skill. So since I’m trying to avoid close range as much as possible I though a good strategy was to inflict as much damage as possible before they close in. Then use ducking and dodge. For multiple mobs I set a trap first. I am also using signet of shadow for speed so I can run a loop while my initiative reloads.

I’ve also loded a fair amount of + into vitality since I’m pretty soft. I went for this over toughness because it seems I get a lot of conditions thrown on me and I need the health to stay alive while evading/running.

My main question is should I sacrifice more toughness for power so my crits cause more damage? Over all I’m really not sure what the best balance should be. Crits seem important because of the play style and lack of basic thief stealth skills. The 10% fire damage does seem to go off quite a bit especially using unload. It has gotten me out of a bind several times.

For some reason I ignored power because I was looking at it wrong. It seemed kind of odd that I would need power for pistols since I’m not throwing the bullets

So how would you balance the other stats out keeping in mind having crit % as high as possible?

I’m still not sure if I should skimp more on toughness for more power in order to max out damage on incomings.

Right now my traits are
0 – Deadly arts
10 – Critical strikes For pistol mastery
0 – Shadow Arts
0 – Acrobatics
6 or 7 in Trickery so I can get caltrops on dodge

Any thoughts on stat balance are appreciated. Once again I realize my build pretty much defeats the purpose of rolling a thief but I’m having fun with it PvE soloing and have actually gotten rather good at timing and dodging. I’m not planing to take the build into a party, PvP, or WvW.

Thanks!

I just replaced my old 2008 24" iMac with a 27" late 2012 iMac and guildwars2 is much nicer (Aside from the lockbits/dstbits crash in when you have a large population in direct line of sight of each other ..eg. wvw zerg on zerg fight or some large pve boss fight ie. dragon) to avoid the bug for now keep your graphics settings low.. it won’t prevent the bug but it should make it a lot harder for it to be triggered.

Thank you for the heads up. I was planning to dial down the setting when getting into heavy WvW if I ever even do it. I’m old, grew up on atari with one joystick and one button. I can’t keep up with the younger generation of gamers. I do pretty well in PvE though.

Now that I’ve been playing for a while I have found a fun way for me to help others and thanks to no fighting over resources and XP it works. I go to places like Queensdale and look for someone that is struggling. I don’t immediately run up shouting I’m here to save the day. Instead I try to not let them know I’m following them. Since I use ranged weapons I wait until I see them get into a pretty dicey situation with adds and what not and I fly in range guns blazing and then disappear again. I don’t even loot drops or farm resources.
I figure that I’ll let them play and learn things as they want but not let them get beat up doing it. If they ask for more help I do most of the time. Okay I caved in and went ahead and got my new iMac. I was going to order one with custom upgrades but decided that some of those upgrades were not worth the extra money and I could still do the work I needed the new one fro and as the game comes secondary at best I didn’t feel the need to drop an extra $400. Based on hylien’s response to my question I felt the difference between my original build I mentioned and what I ended up buying were not that significant.

So I ended up getting a 2012:

2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M

I do a lot of video rendering, editing, and photoshop work. I often have three high demand applications running at the same time. So when I did my first test run I noticed a huge improvement over my ’09 and feel it well work perfectly for my work needs.

Now the game. The first thing I noticed was the amazing art work and detail. It was like an entirely different game. Beautiful detail and things i didn’t even know were there, like the yellow outlines around characters/mobs when you look at them. Just the the amazing 27" screen itself is a big change and all of these together actually allowed me to play better.

This is what I’m running on and I’m getting about 40-45fps in moderate areas 30-40fps in some more crowded areas. I have not done a WvW test but I did do a group champion event and it stayed within the 30 fps range.

Advanced Settings:
Animation: Medium
Anti Aliasing: FXAA
Environment: High
LOD Distance: Medium
Reflections: Terrain & Sky
Textures: Medium
Render Sampling: Native
Shadows: Low
Shaders: Medium
Post Processing: High

Yes, Figlilly, one of the things I love about Mac is they don’t make it a 45 hour process of setting up a new computer with your old files, applications, user settings and so forth. Simply plug in new computer to power, plugin USB backup drive, open migration assistant. Click two buttons. Go for a short walk. Come home, new computer has all your files on it and is set up. Done.

I agree the title of this forum ‘Mac Beta Client Tech Support’ is a bit misleading. Perhaps they should just name it ‘Mac Client Users Trying To Help Users’ and they should remove it from the page you linked to. They should also make a sticky in this forum stating that this forum is no longer reviewed by the development team and to submit support tickets for any issues.

Like I said in another thread I can’t complain much because for the most part I am able to enjoy the game aside from what I consider minor issues (TP hanging). I have not tried WvW yet though so I’m not sure if I will encounter the other problem people have experienced.

Mostly I feel somewhat let down that I was offered a product that was classified as beta but appears that no development toward the Mac beta client has been occurring from what I have read in this forum. Perhaps they are doing some stuff in the background we don’t know about.

Long story short, I just wish they would tell us what is going on as far as support, development or lack there of.

Hmmm… When I purchased the game a few weeks ago I was aware that the Mac version was in beta as they make it clear right by the download button. What I wasn’t aware of was that they seem to have stopped/or never provided support. I don’t recall reading anything that said, “Download Mac Beta. BTW it isn’t being supported and it may never come out of beta.” Maybe I overlooked it though. I understand that beta means that it may be buggy but if they have completely given up on it I wish they would at least tell us.

This is a bit disheartening but for $60 dollars I have about 110 hours of enjoyable game play, for the most part. So I feel I have at least gotten my moneys worth. After all what other forms of commercial entertainment can you enjoy a 110 hours for $60? Although I may have to put the throttle on real money gem purchases.

It must be so cool to Level Cap huh? By the way, whats level cap?”

Gamers will go “Meh~”

I’m not going to argue with you because the OP simply asked for names and said he liked reading articles about it. I provided both. Sorry I’m not some elite gamer like you because I play casually and don’t bash my head against my monitor because I didn’t get the armor I wanted on a certain day.. I didn’t say, “Wow I’m mind blown by it.” I did say doing so in a short amount of time seems pretty amazing to me.

Personally I think you are just feeling picked on from your bug fix thread so you have decided to take it out on me in this thread. Go for it I’m good at selective reading.

Meh~ i don’t consider being the 1st to lvl cap to 80 to be of any great achievement,
it just tells me he has loads of time and plays the game way too efficiently.

Personally for me, good celebrities are the ones who actually contribute to the community in a good way, like Mr Prometheus did for guiding mesmers, and of
course Dulfy for her invaluable GW2 guide.

I remembered if not because of Dulfy’s guide, NO ONE really knew how
to do the first Halloween event at all. Anet didn’t even bother to give any
guides for those who needed it. Thats how important her guides were.

Well he/she holds the record so many would argue that makes he/she famous. He /she made NBC news after all so some must consider it something including Mike O’Brien who commented in the article. I think it is kind of pointless myself, especially to blast through the game. None the less, no one else can claim to be the first to cap.

The OP didn’t necessarily ask for the best players in GW2.

if only i could help low lvl ppl doing their harts, i would be happy… i dnt even need any reward.

You can. Help them kill the mobs in the hearts by attacking the same one they are. Helps them do it fast and in some cases stay alive if they pull some adds. You could also show them where to go if they are not sure and what to do.

I didn’t see Surfeuze mentioned. First GW2 player to cap at 80. Surfeuze did this in 32 hours by PvE to 60 then crafting to 80 using mats his guild gave him. Even though it sounds like the content was mostly skipped over to me that seems like an insane amount of time to cap that fast.

I wonder if Surfeuze even plays anymore or posts here complaining about having nothing to do

Rage Quit Fun

Internet greifing / trolling has been going on since Usenet launched in the early 80’s and probably earlier. It is part of the misconception that it is acceptable to act however you want on the Internet due to a feeling of anonymity.

Unfortunately feeling anonymus leads to many expressing themselves in ways they would not in public. Some people do it out of bordom, some do it out of frustration, some do it because they think it makes them look bad kitten, many do it out of jealousy.

This has spilled out into online gaming the second interactive online gaming launched. However this type of behavior isn’t new to society as a whole. Think prank phone calls (yes caller I.D. didn’t always exist ), cave man creates first fire and his buddy pours water on it, the list is endless.

On final note I bet all of use have done at least a minor form of ‘greifing’ in online games at one point or another.

Trading Post Problems? Hanging/Crashing

in Account & Technical Support

JustTrogdor.7892

You guys do know that they aren’t reading the Mac forums, right!? Many peeps do experience the hanging tp. For me when it just hangs, sometimes changing maps resolves it, other times, I need to restart the client… And on occasion, I just have to wait a long time until it decides it wants o work again, keep opening until it does. I’ve never had a crash associated with it though.

Oddly enough, those of you experiencing crashes with it are a minority and since they aren’t reading these and you can’t resolve the issue with the lengthy amount of steps I posted above, the only way they will know is with a ticket. If they help you fix it, come back here and post the solution.

(everyone, even pc, occasionally has issues where the tp will hang from time to time, but the crashes are the real issue)

After some reading here I am aware that they are not reading the forums and that is rather unfortunate in itself. Especially when they specifically mention it here:
https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9231

I’m not trying to come off as snippy I just couldn’t think of a better way to say that in my reply. Mostly I just wanted to see if I was the only one with this issue. It has only happened once in the last 3 days with a can’t connect error. That was corrected by logging to the character select and then back in. It’s not a /rage quit issue for me, just a minor inconvenience. Everything else has worked fine so far and I am enjoying the game. Maybe we should start a Mac guild

I’m a big fan of taking a break. I used to game a ton in my younger years. Looking back I missed out on a lot of things. I’m not saying gaming is bad, after all I do it, but once I stepped back for a while I found out how much more fun gaming is for me when I don’t do it so often. GW2 works great for that for many reasons including no subscription fee.

Getting new iMac will it improve things much.

in Account & Technical Support

JustTrogdor.7892

Time to put my old 2009 iMac on ice. Actually given its specks I’m surprised I can even play the game in a mildy crowded area (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB). I am not going back to PC because as my work computer is my number 1 priority and my high mileage iMac has been great. You know what they say about once you go mac. So I’m going to buy a late 2012 with these specks:

-Third-generation quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with 3.2GHz processing speed
-8GB DDR3 SoDIMM memory (which I will upgrade to 32)
-1TB hard drive (7200 rpm) (I wish they offered SSD)
-NVIDIA GTX 675MX graphics with 1GB GDDR5 memory

I did some looking around, primarily about the NVIDIA card and got mixed messages. Some say it won’t work at GW2 max settings and some do. Oddly none of them seemed to be mac people

Obviously it will be an improvement. I am wondering if anyone has an iMac with similar specs and if it will be a significant improvement over what I have now as far as workable graphics settings and FPS. Can you run close to max settings with specs similar to this? I don’t necessarily need the absolute best graphics. FPS is more important to me, but I’d like to be able to use significantly better than the lowest possible settings which I have to use now.

Best regards,
JustTrogdor

Maybe it would help if you bind weapon swap to another key

I put it on an extra mouse button and I can roll with it pretty well as long as I keep an eye on the swap meter.

I don’t get this community, where did they come from because everyone seems to be really helpful. How can WoW (my previous MMO) have such a nasty toxic community and yet this one is so much better?

My theory? Unless WoW has changed since I tried it out, XP and Treasure Drops can be ganked by other players tagging your kills – this happened a lot in EQ2 as well. That doesn’t make for an environment where people want to help each other, but instead where everyone is competing with everyone else. Same goes with gear; since gear is such a big deal in those games and everyone wants to get the best gear faster than you, it doesn’t do them any favors to help someone out in a jam.

The way GW2 play is designed you are encouraged and even rewarded for helping others, so it creates a sense of community in the game. Usually people got help when they were low level and they want to pass in on and so, and so, and so …

Reminds me alot of the good years of Star Wars Galaxies, when the community was really good and the low levels were so hard and such a grind that high level players would stop to help out the newbies with money, gear, etc. all the time … and remembering that, the newbies would do the same when they got high level. I know it happened for me and I went on and did it for others.

That’s what an in game community in an MMO should feel like.

Yep, that’s what I refernced in my OP and I agree. I played a lot more today than usual I think I hit every champion in Queensdale at least 3 times just to be part of it. Well that and I enjoy the show and like trying different moves. I ran in on Oak rambo style once with pistols blazing. That didn’t work out very well at least someone was there to rez me so I could get my share of the loot. From my experience when I played WoW I’d probably still be laying there dead lol.

I ran across it yesterday while working on LA map completion. I would have ignored it but it had a big star on the map. Great for me because I can hit it and waypoint to a good xp area to grind some xp out faster and maybe get some good magic drops.

Oh and you can rebuff once it wears off so once an hour. At least that is how it worked when I tried it.

My main right now is a Thief with a build that no one would usually roll. I have fun with it though but I won’t be using it if I ever want to join a party for serious stuff where rolling the best build is important for the teams sake.

My other is a Guardian great sword and I am taking a break from it because the combat seems to repetitive (5,5,4,3,2).

The key tip to making sure you are able to enjoy the game LONG after you have multiple 80s is to play slowly, stopping to “smell the roses” and reading random text on everything, or even standing there listening to NPCs. That will fill you with the lore, and enable a lot of things that happen to start making sense. Once that happens you’ll start to “fall in love” with the setting, and that will enable you to get a lot more long term enjoyment out of the game.

I agree and that is why I’m not racing to do everything. By the time I hit 80 there will probably be a lot of new content for me. In my 106 hours of play I have only leveled 25 and a level 17. I read some place that the first person to hit 80 did it in 32 hours. I think he got to 60 and then crafted to 80 with mats his guild gave him. I wonder if he still plays now.

Also I have not done any screen shots yet because most of the stuff I have done so far has been seen 1,000 times over by others. I did have a situation yesterday when I was playing my p/p/sb Thief (yes I know terrible build but fun for me) and while strafing with guns blasting I somehow ran along the side of a wall like the Matrix. I wish I had caught that on video.

just one comment you mentioned about low graphics. i thought it was my video card bottlenecking my fps find out it was when i changed cpu after i upgraded my video card i saw a huge fps difference and after it iwas able to run my game on high setting. when i upgraded my video card i was still running on low settings it was cpu change that made a huge difference. i didnt realize that was my trouble same everything else.im glad you love the game. my biggest thing is i can go and come back when i want. i got discouraged a bit when they introduced ascended but it made me step back but im back and still going strong

Thanks for the info on fps improvements. I’m a mac user (insert macs are kitten comments) here. I’m running a 2009 base iMac (9NVIDIA GTX 675MX so it as wonder I can even play in crowded areas). I mostly use it for work and it does a very good job with that. I never purchased it for gaming. I got it because it handles a lot of work related functions very well and has been insanely stable, even when maxing out my RAM and a lot of page outs. I don’t want to get into that argument though. The unfortunate aspects of iMac are limited upgrade options, pretty much RAM. I’m due for an upgrade and I have been rewarded with a significant discount for future purchase. So after payday I will be picking this up, which I think should handle it well:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B+-+27%22+iMac%26%23174%3B+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/4840607.p?id=1218548288365&skuId=4840607

Work comes first and it should handle my video editing and such just fine. Games come second so even if I’m not running top specs thats fine with me.

How do you define casual?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JustTrogdor.7892

Okay my new goal for the game which includes discussing topics with others in the forums has changed. I’m ending my involvement with ‘casual’ threads (I think there are at least 3 running right now) after this post.

Your opinion related to how I should spend my time enjoying a game is your right and you can spend all day talking about it if you want. However if it isn’t something I agree with or doesn’t match my style for enjoying the game I’ll simply chose not to accept the goals you think are required for me to enjoy the game.

Given that, I better jump in game now. All I have done so far today was a little crafting. I guess my enjoyment of the game will be ruined if I don’t at least do my daily, finish my monthly, finish a map, level up 5 times, get the best gear possible for my new level, and make 10 gold today.

Speaking of monthly though, I think there is a very good reason they give players a month to do it. /points at self

What do I do if I get banned for no reason?

in Account & Technical Support

I do see what you’re saying, and you’re right, it’s my fault for cursing. Let’s be logical here though, when I say kitten…what happens here? Why can’t they just do that in game chat? If you don’t want somebody to shoot someone, why would you put the gun in his hand? By this I mean, why don’t they just remove cursing all together? Boom, every problem has just been solved. Kind of silly if you ask me.

Nobody put a gun in your hand because you decided to curse. You loaded and fired it yourself. Just because I’m wearing a bullet proof vest doesn’t give you the right to shoot at me.

It isn’t the fault of Anet that you didn’t read the ToS and Code of Conduct. However by logging in and playing you had to click the agree to terms button therefore you agreed not to use adult language in game, language filter or not.

Looks like you got a temp ban so just ride it out and consider it a lesson learned. Don’t curse in chat, you will have no more problems with being banned for cursing. Seems pretty simple to me.

How do you define casual?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Not again… Why is everyone so obsessed with how others chose to play the game? Why is everyone obsessed with deciding what the goals should be for other players? Why should others decide that every player need to be obsessed with getting a legendary when some people, like me, are not worried about that at this time? I’ve played a total of 106 hours and my highest level character is 25. My goal of this game since I decided to buy it was to have fun. I’ve had a 106 hours of fun and even if I never played again I feel have gotten my moneys worth already. That includes a few trips to the gem store because I could buy skins to make my characters look more interesting to me, and a mini.

Show me another form of commercial entertainment where you can get 106 hours for $60. It certainly isn’t movies. A 2 hour movie at a standard theater costs around $10. You would have to watch 53 movies to achieve 106 hours of entertainment. So that would be $530 bucks. That is a roughly 1 movie a week for a year (52.17 weeks in a year). If your goal is to watch 53 movies in half a year go at it. Just because that is your goal it doesn’t have to be mine. I wouldn’t even try to watch 53 movies in 7 years and to my advantage by the time I even watched 20 movies, new movies/content will be out to make that experience more pleasurable.
