Well Kid,

All I know is that you and I are having the exact same problem. I am trying some different things to see if it is an overheating problem and if I can figure that out I will let you know so that you could begin testing on your side.

Do you have anything installed that shows your temps? I use iStat pro. You can check your internal temps, fan speeds, cpu usage, and memory usage by opening dashboard. The measurements are in Celsius. So if you get a crash you can open it right after and see what temps you are running at the time of the crash.

Perhaps if you keep a log using these stats when you get a crash you can see if there there is something in common. Maybe check stats before game play, during moderate game play, and after crash.

I use the customized soundtrack feature so I don’t have just one theme song. I have a theme playlist that suits all of my characters and the appropriate song almost always seems to kick in at just the right time.

Lol odd place to put that, but nope, I have never seen that… Just random teleporting people. Next time try a screenie? Maybe it was a ranger with a hawk? ;p

I took a screen but Adobe decided they didn’t like the fact that I purchased a new iMac and locked Photoshop. So I can’t do much with the giant screen cap until their ‘customer support’ decides to unlock the product I purchased years ago for me. It was the only program that didn’t work after migrate. I’m waiting for them to tell me to install the Photoshop .exe

I don’t want to upload a giant file.

Is toughness causing my agro?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I know me again with another question about another alt. I’m playing a Mesmer right now. gs/s/s set. I carry a lot of toughness and vitality because I mostly do solo PvE.

I usually open up on a mob with Phantasmal Berserker then Mirror Blade to start popping clones on my target. I don’t know what it is but I take agro almost every time in every situation and through the who battle. I know the clones are not the most threatening target but I thought part of that was for them to confuse the target so the mob might target them.

I’ve had situations, which I tested on purpose, where another player attacked a target while I just stand there and I pulled agro doing nothing. I do use a signit that gives me random boons ever few seconds. Could that cause mobs to target me?

There have been a lot of situations, like small groups on champions where I held off for a second to see what happened and sure enough it was all up in my face LOL Groups of 3 on a veteran, them, at least 3 clones, and sure enough I’m the one running circles.

Is toughness a primary factor? I thought it would be more DPS but no matter what I try skills wise I can’t seem to shake it. Maybe they just hate me because I’m ugly

I know this isn’t Mesmer forums but it is a question about agro in general. How can I shake this curse without losing the buffs I need to survive on my own.

Also like any language some players have carried over different abbreviations from different games which kind of translates into dialects. SO it would be kind of difficult to make a list here unless you give us a few examples. Also you may try the players helping players forum and you might get even more answers between the two.

Yeah unfortunately there are people that like to troll map chat or they think it’s funny when someone has not been playing 50 hours a week.

Some stuff translates easily given the situation/topic. So a few examples would be helpful.

Usually they are abbreviations for weapon sets. For example p/p pistol/pistol sb short bow. The sb would be on weapon swap. I messed it up though because sometimes you se it:

p/p/sb

Oh and don’t ever roll a Thief p/p/sb unless you like to run a lot.

Oh and I’ve been playing about a month and it took me a few weeks to figure out too. I f you have any questions shoot me a PM. I’ll try to help if I can.

I bought the game at launch and played for a few days. I am in the military and left for active duty. I came home this week and was very pumped up to begin playing. I try to log in and it says my account is banned I submitted a ticket yesterday but heard nothing. Against my better judgement, I bought a new CD key digital download this morning. I registered the new CD key to my old account email and it still says I am banned. Is this a bug or did I really just spend another 59$ just to look at a banned screen? ugh.

Thanks for the thanks. I’m pretty new around here so I try to help when I can. I do the same thing in game. I don’t have any characters over L30, 4 around that level, I like trying different professions a lot. Plus I get distracted. I spent probably 3 hours today running some new player around Quenssdale. I found him dead in the swamp and he said he was trying to get to Lions Arch. Obviously he was lost hehe.

Anyway I wanted to chime in because today I saw something really odd. I was outside a fort and there was a player a bit further away that looked like he had a rope tethered from the fort to him. Has anyone else seen this before? It didn’t go away until he ran out of sight.

Question about 1 through 5 slots

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I don’t completely understand it but I think it would mess up weapon swapping and things like engineer kits.

In GW1 you could freely rearrange all your skills. You could also rearrange special skill bars given by using certain items or in mini games like Costume Brawl and Roller Beetle Racing. But if you did it’d change your normal skills as well. Say for example I decided I wanted to swap the 1st and 5th Costume Brawl skills. I could do it, but when I came out of CB my normal 1st and 5th skills would also have swapped and I’d have to move them back.

I think all your potential skill bars are saved somewhere in the games code and it’s done in a way which ties each skill to it’s particular slot. So if you move a skill you have to move every skill that uses that slot together.

Which is part of why each weapon has to have one specific skill set, otherwise it’d get messed up when you swapped weapons. (In GW1 you could swap weapons, but it didn’t change your skills.) The other part being to prevent some of the gimmicky an OP builds that sometimes caused issues in GW1.

I’m not sure if it’s something they could change, as I said I don’t completely understand how it works. This is just my guess based on what I’ve seen happen in both games and an assumption that they built on their existing system rather than re-inventing it from scratch. But I think if they did want to change it it’d be a lot of work because the code probably affects all kinds of things.

Still, it’d be good if they could.

I see, that seems to make sense now that you pointed it out. I didn’t think about it that way. For a second I thought about the idea of having a second key map set that would automatically swap custom key map settings on weapon swap. Say key map setting one you use mouse 3 for attack 4. On weapon swap it switches to custom key map settings 2 and you use mouse 3 for skill 2. It would also help in cases of jump puzzles where sometimes people want to change movement controls just for the puzzle. Then I thought about it more and it seems like that could cause a lot of problems, glitches and so forth, not to mention probably a coding nightmare.

Oh well I suppose part of the game is learning how to use the keys faster. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Actually I love my magic mouse.. but I guess each their own.

Some people do. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to appear rude. I was trying to describe the simplified version of the mouse that Apple has been using since they created their first mouse. One thing with Apple is they seem dedicated to certain concepts that root back to their beginning. For the most part this have been a big part of their success. Instead of trying to reinvent everything as their technology moved forward they work to improve upon what they have.

Second computer I owned a very long time ago. Apple II, iMac in it’s infancy Note the one button mouse.

All this blaming is simply what Sigmund Freud called “displacement”. Someone knowingly made a bad choice, but took the chance anyways. Due to the failure of the choice, a person experiencing humiliation and shame is directing it elsewhere in order to cope. He then lashes out at others offering help, further protecting the ego from damage.

At least, that’s what I learned in my college psychology classes.

Imagine how this thread would have gone if the OP used “reaction formation”

Question about 1 through 5 slots

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Hello,

Sorry if this is an old topic. I’m wondering why the skills in the 1-5 slots can’t be shuffled. I know I can change key binds but the problem occurs when I do weapon swap or change to a different profession. For example I use mouse 3 in most cases for my preferred none auto attack skill. This often changes when I weapon swap. I may want skill 3 on initial weapon attack swap weapons and want mouse 3 to use skill 4.

The same goes when I play a different character of another profession and with that I have to remember to go in an change my key binds to suite that character. If I could order 1 – 5 the way I want then this would not be an issue. It seems odd because aside from the heal skill you can order 7 through 9 skills however you want.

Heck, I’d buy some more gems if you could purchase something to unlock 1 -5

I know it isn’t a huge issue, more just makes it a bit more tricky for someone like myself that struggles with switching keys like crazy. I am guessing it will stay like that so if anyone has types on how I could make it easier on myself I’d appreciate it.

Happy gaming.

HAHA look at what I just got in my eMail:

You recently requested help from our Guild Wars 2 Support Team, and we would really like to know how we did. Please help us improve our service by telling us how great – or not so great – we did, by taking a minute to click the link below and filling out our quick survey.

I am attaching a screen cap of the start of the survey for a chuckle. Here is what I wrote in the comment:

I submitted a problem and stated I am using the Mac client on my iMac. The answer I received told me to download a Microsoft .exe update file and install Game Advisor wich is also .exe

.exe files don’t run under OSX.

Over all the GW2 Mac customers have been abandoned. The GW2 website has a FAQ for Mac users that includes a link to the Mac Beta Client Tech support forum which is ignored. No staff member ever posts there. Myself and other kind members have been taking our time to answer questions for your other Mac CUSTOMERS the best we can.

It is rather disappointing that you don’t treat your Mac customers as CUSTOMERS. I realize it is a Beta client but we never get any information on updates, any posts announcing known bugs, any information on what is being worked on with the Mac beta client. Nothing.

If you have abandoned the Mac client all together please let Mac users know in the “Mac Beta Client Tech SUPPORT Forum” or change the name to “Mac Users Trying To Support Mac Users Without the Support of NCSoft / Arenanet”.

I understand that most of your business comes from PC users but Mac users are your PAYING CUSTOMERS too. Mac users support your product beyond box sales by buying gems just like PC users do.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please send someone to the “Mac Beta Client Tech Support Forum” to a least tell us what is going on with the product we purchased.

Best regards.

Hopefully my account still works tomorrow. If you don’t here from me again it was nice chatting with you all

Magic Mouse

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

If I were you I’d ditch the mouse. It is probably the only thing I hate about iMac.
Get a good Logitech rechargeable wireless. I have one very similar to the one in this link. I’ve had mine about 4 years and I love it (used to use it on my old PC when I played WoW). It has some buttons down by your thumb you can use as a keybind for what ever skill / action you want:

http://compare.ebay.com/like/110962918207?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

Oh and when you have the map up you can click the + / – ont the right of the map. I find it kind of jumpy with my scroll wheel. Also I don’t use the scroll wheel to zoom in or out on my character because it is kind of jumpy too so I use the page up / page down keys. And you won’t have those keys unless you have the full width keyboard with the number pad on the right.

Once again Logtiech seems to make better Mac accessories than Apple I would recommend this (solar power) keyboard if you need a full keyboard:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005L38VRU/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B005L38VRU&linkCode=as2&tag=vintagelure-20

The dumbed down version of a mouse is something that they started in the beginning. Actually they went with one button at the beginning because they felt two buttons would be too complicated for new users. Their stance hasn’t changed much with what I call the pseudo two button mouse we see now.

Happy gaming and I’m sure you will love your new iMac very a very long time. I sure have loved mine (plural) I bought a second one last week.

Casual is not 1-2 hours a day

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

People respond to problems in different ways.

Some people are challenged by problems and motivated to find a solution. These are extremely valuable traits that you can bring with you in the real world.

Or you can run away from problems and give up. That’s the biggest difference between a casual and a hardcore. A casual gamer just wants to relax in the sun. No strategy development and thought process required.

I’m just going to sit down on this chair, press this button and get tickled.

Really you dug up a 7 day old thread to try to insult me? You have no idea how I respond to problems in the real world. If you knew enough about my life, my accomplishments, and the significant problems I’ve had to overcome then you would have probably not bumped this thread to judge others. But really it isn’t any of your business how I live my real world life and how I play a video game.

There is big difference between dealing with problems in a video game and dealing with problems in real life. I hate to tell you that. Also I could probably argue that people who spend long amounts of times playing video games are probably hiding from a fair share of their own real world problems. There is a reason people like fantasy.

So go ahead and continue to try to speculate how I live my real life. Start your own thread about it if you want and let everyone chime in on how I live my real life. It might make for a fun read.

I’d probably buy some well above my level and use transmute stones. My problem is using the TP it is hard to tell what they look like worn since it only shows a button image.

I did that for my pistol just taking a guess and I got lucky that I liked the one I got.

What an absolute load of garbage. Try looking at it from a point that matters … yourself.

$15 per month is approximately 0.48 cents per day. If you are playing and enjoying an MMO you may spend 3+ hours per day playing it, although many people here would play an MMO a lot more than that. Even at 3 hours per day for a form of entertainment, which is exactly what a game is, it equates to around 0.16 per hour. I’d love to see your thoughts on an entertainment activity that is even remotely comparable in terms of value for your money.

I have mentioned something similar to this too. I played 106 hours when I mentioned it. I payed $60 for GW2 and have not been forced to pay a penny more. My play time is probably extremely low so others numbers would work out even better for expense verses entertainment time for others.

53 two hour movies at a theater would be 106 hours of movie entertainment. Most theaters run about $10 a movie. 53 movies X $10 = 530 dollars. One could argue watching 106 hours of two hour dollar rentals would be $53, but if you wanted to watch more than 106 hours you will have to continue to pay for the rentals.

Just because you have seen them doesn’t mean they have or haven’t been reported or that the GMs have seen it themselves. I doubt they have the manpower to watch everyone in game all the time. That is why they encourage players to report violations so they can review the situation and make a ruling whether it is a violation or not.

Is the name an offense? Well that depends on what Anet thinks. They make the rules.

Mac saves screen shots to the desktop by default so that is probably the reason that GW2 does the same as you are actually initiating the same command as if you were taking any other type of screen shot. I did run across this while looking for a way to assist you.

I have not tried it myself or with GW2 but it may be worth a shot, pun intended. Also While the command they suggest seems fairly benign I feel it is a good idea to use caution when executing Terminal commands. Best bet double check the instructions provided in the link before running the command.

Hope you get it to work and if you do please come back and share so us other Mac users can benefit from your knowledge.

Would I get suspended for this name?

While people can argue over what is and isn’t a reference to religion, I maintain my original stance on this topic as seen in my first reply. If a peson has to stop and think whether the name could possibly be a reference to religion the best bet is to think of a different name. If a person prefers not to do so they should contact support before electing to use the name in question.

This is one of those situations where challenging your own idea for a name should be practiced. It is better to eliminate the possibility of being suspended yourself before finding out later that the name chosen is a violation.

@JustTrogdor

A mesmer sets up a portal (Use skill)
A portal appears on the ground
The mesmer runs to location B and sets a second portal on the ground (Use skill again)
Anyone (Limited to 20 ports per portal) can now use the portal either way as many times they want, although the portal itself only stays active for some seconds before disappearing.

In the case of jumping puzzle the idea is often that the Mesmer simply falls down to the lower ground and portal people up from there.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there a range limit on how far the Mesmer can run and set the exit?

You can also spot a non 80 right away from their mismatched colors and armor.

That makes it even worse. Standard armor + green arrow = instant target.

Help us to continue to love this game and prevent us from running into game breaking issues!

I’m probably on the high end of real money gem purchases compared to many players. Like I said in another thread I am thinking of throttling that down if at all. I and probably many Mac users are supporting them through purchases beyond box price. It would be nice if they would reciprocate by at least publicly stating where the Mac client stands, patch notes and such.

Actually I tried to buy some gems yesterday and everything in the TP would load but the gem store. Today I tried again and the front page gem store promotions would load but nothing else. I want to buy some of those RNG chests that some people are so upset about. They are featured on the front page but everything else seemed glitched so I decided not to go forward with my purchase incase purchases were glitched too. I have been waiting it out because I thought it might have something to do with yesterday’s crash. Then again, maybe it is a sign.

I find replying to abusive behavior online with what I like to call “cheerful unconcern” is the best strategy. Either I act like I don’t have any idea what they’re talking about, or I just agree with them. “wow ur so ugly” “Okay.” Eventually they get so frustrated with the lack of response that they cross a reportable line, or they give up and look for a more easily-provoked target.

A guy on WoW once harassed me after I refused to give him gold. After about 5 minutes of me replying with “Okey-dokey!” and smiley faces, he got so angry that he ended up blocking me.

Don’t give them what they want. Report behavior that crosses the line and note if it’s repeated harassment by the same person. Because letting them provoke you into an unwise reply is exactly what they want.

I find the best way is to not respond at all. Eventually they either get out of control and enter ‘reportable’ mode or more frequently just give up. If most people just ignored trolling all together it would take the troll’s fun away.

Sorry to go off topic a bit I’m not sure how the portal works. I’m fairly new and have yet to see one in action. I gather that it allows one to enter one point and exit at another. What is the range of a portal? Once someone exits at the other end of the portal can they go back in to return to their original location? Can the Mesmer also enter the portal they created?

Just curious because I can see where this would be a lot of help with jump puzzles which I am terrible at. Actually I have yet to complete one. I have tried the one in Queensdale several time but usually end up getting killed when I think I have gotten close to the solution, veterans with adds and such usually get me. Given the limited range of movement I have a hard time with dodging etc.

I know I could have posted this in the PhP forum but thought I would ask here given the topic.
