My guess is they sell a decent amount of them to make it worth their effort.

We do not take character or display or guild names away from valid accounts. Someone may step away and return to the game later, so the names must stay in place.
We have temporarily removed the Champion of Tyria Package from the Gem Store while we address an issue with it. We will make it available again as soon as possible.
Please add your feedback, everyone!

Pre-purchasing does not give you the 4000 gems by default. You have to buy the Ultimate version to receive the 4000 gems. With those gems you can buy anything in the gem store you want and can afford with them. If PoF is like HoT the Ultimate edition will still be available after pre-purchase ends and PoF launches.
For clarity this is what you get as a pre-purchase bonus for any version of PoF you purchase. From the sales page:
Pre-purchase before launch and receive one Sunspear Weapon Skin of your choice, a Miniature Balthazar, and the title of Elonian Envoy.
Doesn’t bother me at all.
I’ve included links in this post to relevant wiki articles to make it more clear and provide more information.
Crafting materials can be quickly deposited in your material storage bank. Click the cog located at the upper right of your inventory window and select the option to deposit all materials. Material storage is part of your bank and will hold up to 250 of each mat by default and can be expanded through the gem store. These materials are of course used for crafting but can also be sold on the trading post (aside from some that are account bound). You can access your material storage at any bank or crafting station. As a side note, all crafting stations also allow access to your normal bank.

Transmutation charges are used to change the appearance of your weapons, armor and back item using skins you have unlocked in your wardrobe.

As far as dropped weapons and armor you can either salvage them for more mats and essences of luck to increase your magic find, sell them to a vendor (usually the least profitable), sell them on the trading post to other players or even combine items of the same rarity in the mystic forge for a chance at receiving a better item (pretty much gambling and often not worth it.).

That is the simple version. I’m sure I forgot some things and intentionally left out more complex things. The links I provided contain a lot more detailed information.
I suggest bookmarking the GW2 wiki as it is a wealth of information.

For the past 2 years I have been logging in 6/7 days per week and I have never received a key. Can anyone say for certain that they received a key from one of these chests?
I have received 2 keys from the Chest of Black Lion Goods over the years.
HoT was never able to be purchased for gems, just the upgrade from standard to deluxe. I can’t imagine that Anet will offer PoF for gems but the upgrade from PoF standard to deluxe is available for gems just like HoT and core.
As stated on the sales page gem delivery for the Ultimate package may take up to 72 hours after purchase.
If you bought it from the web store did you add the key to your account via the “My Account” page? Also if you are talking about the 4000 gems included with Ultimate they are are delayed up to 72 hours as stated on the sales page.
Couldn’t test them in PvE maps against PoF mobs. I spammed elite skills for most professions against target golems, got bored and didn’t go back. I understand the need for feedback for competitive play. Still I didn’t see enough to provide feedback from a mostly PvE player.
If it is a name you really want and are afraid someone else might take it you should probably check every day so as not to let the 24 hour reservation expire.
When the first PoF demo ended the name I used was not available again until 4 days later. I checked every day. Normally names are reserved for the account holder for 24 hours after character deletion. Under normal circumstances if you delete a character that name is immediately available to you to use again and secured to your account for 24 hours. You don’t have to wait any amount of time to use the name again. My guess based on what happened last week is Anet has not completely deleted those demo characters yet which would allow the account holder to use the name again.
A thread from after last week’s demo with similar concerns and updates form players showing the names eventually became available:

Ao.. PoF and still no HoT weapon release?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892
Apparently they lost them somehow.
Ok, so it looks like those weapon skins were originally created to be paired up with some of the armors for skill videos and the Beta experience. Then they apparently got lost in the mists between teams and never got hooked up, or were hooked up incorrectly so players never saw them again… Or at least until my team gets their hands on them!
I guess the team hasn’t gotten their hands on them yet.

You can upgrade to deluxe via the gem store. Do note there are several deluxe upgrades available in the gem store, one for core, one for HoT and one for PoF. So make sure you select the proper one.
Also of note, it is not possible to upgrade from standard or deluxe to ultimate (the version with the 4000 gems).
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Glad to help. I’m willing to bet your wife will appreciate what ever you do for her.
I don’t think so as it contains account upgrades that are not normally able to be gifted like character slots and bag slots. If it isn’t an option in the gem store using the gift icon then it isn’t able to be gifted.
Edit: Just checked in game and it doesn’t show the gift icon so it appears it cannot be gifted as I expected.
While maybe not as good of a surprise, I suppose you could get her a gem card to use toward it if they are available where you live. Maybe you could get creative and wrap the gem card in something with a PoF theme.

I certainly have not been sold. I already provided some feedback after the first week in the the main thread so I’ll try to keep this short.
- I liked the mob density from what I saw of the new map was not over done.
- Didn’t want mounts but neutral at this point. Curious if some if the reasons I didn’t want mounts have a larger impact after launch. They certainly are not a selling point for me.
- Didn’t like unidentified gear as it was shown in the demo.
- Didn’t like mastery point behind a timed mini game.
- I mostly play Mesmer and the new elite spec didn’t do much to sell me on the expansion. I would have liked to test elites in PvE PoF maps against PoF mobs.
Mostly I think there is a lot to be revealed, I sure hope so. I’ll have to wait until after launch to find out if there is much included in the expac that will interest me. I’ll wait until then to get a good feel of player feedback before deciding to buy.
I didn’t like HoT at all and I feel like I’ve pretty much done everything I wanted in core so my interest there is fading as well. If I don’t find PoF of interest I’ll probably shelf GW2 for a while. As people often tell others here, maybe the game just isn’t for me (anymore) and if so I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t have much time for gaming these days anyway so maybe that’s a good thing.

I doubt they will ever offer on demand display name changes but who knows maybe they will. Anet sometimes surprises us. It has been brought up several times over the years. Here is a collection of Anet staff responses that probably go into more detail than what support may have provided you. These posts also explain other reasons they do not provide display name changes beyond the technical limitations.

Our plan is to keep releasing legendary weapons alongside episodes, with the weapons not requiring the new expansion.
Mo
I think many if not most people that have been in the workforce for a while have had to work on weekends/scheduled days off from time to time. I know I certainly have. So I guess I don’t see this as some great sacrifice on behalf of Anet employees. Maybe the employees scheduled for weekend coverage will be given a few days off before or after the weekend to compensate? Either way I’m sure Anet staff will be just fine and their customers that get to enjoy their product over the launch weekend will appreciate their work.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I’m not even asking that they give us the full value of it. Hell, I’d take 5-10 gold or something. Anything I can actually use.
You can use it on a L80 and you will at least get something. Along with the L80 gear that comes with the boost you will also get the boost package which contains 2 gold, and some other stuff that may or may not be useful to you.

In short.
There is an option to buy PoF with HoT as a package deal that allows you to add HoT to your purchase of PoF for $20 more.
It is not mandatory to have HoT before PoF.

Perhaps if the Anet staff members do not care for the release schedule it is something they could take up with their employer. Of course any changes at this point would probably result in a huge backlash from the players. Something tells me the release date was decided on by many Anet staff members so maybe they are fine with launch happening just before the weekend.

Mo
Given what MO said, they won’t require doing anything in the next expansion’s maps or anything else that requires having the next expansion. If they make them so they can be earned either in HoT and or PoF I guess remains to be seen as things could be interpreted in different ways I suppose. Based on what he said at that time they will only require HoT.

At this point I’ve pretty much given up reading all the recent arguments for and against. It seems things are going in circles with a lot of the same rehashed arguments. There are a lot of good arguments for and against. I think Anet at this point should be aware/hope they are aware that this is an interesting and maybe important subject given the amount of forum feedback and views. I’ll look forward to seeing how this issue continues once PoF launches or if there is another unannounced/unscheduled demo event before launch that may reveal more. Until then I’m holding off on any further comments and opinion. Let’s see how Anet handles it I guess.
Edit: Please keep speaking for and against. That is important for Anet. I just don’t feel I have anything else to say or read at this point until I see more. I’m not even sure why I posted this aside from I have been drinking a few unidentified beers.

Update I was able to reuse the name today
Same here and just just checked. Was trying to use my demo name since the demo ended on a regular character but got the name is used error. I’ve tried it every day since the demo ended and finally it works. Thanks for the heads up.
You can upgrade from standard to deluxe in the gem store with gems. Just make sure you purchase the proper version as there are deluxe upgrades for core, HoT and PoF available.
You cannot upgrade from standard to ultimate, only to deluxe.
https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010688287-Guild-Wars-2-Path-of-Fire-FAQ
Q: If I purchased the Standard Edition of Path of Fire, can I upgrade to Deluxe or Ultimate?
A: You can purchase a digital Deluxe Edition upgrade through the Black Lion Trading Company in-game store. The Ultimate Edition of Path of Fire must be purchased as a complete edition, and the Standard and Deluxe Editions can’t be upgraded to Ultimate.
The likely reason for this weekend’s affair is to get some preliminary feedback on how the new specs work out in competitive play. The mobs don’t care if the new specs are unbalancing or not, but players will.
I feel most certain that is the reason. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that and I’m sure it will give Anet valuable feedback as far as competitive play is concerned.
Customer support seems to be running behind due to increased demand from what I have seen posted on the forums. I think up to 7 days by some reports. So give it some more time and don’t submit more tickets if you were considering that as that will slow things down even more.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I’ve done enough WvW to get a few Gifts of Battle under the new reward track system. The issue I have is that WvW mobs are not very similar to the mobs in the new PoF maps (you know those maps I’ll probably want to spend a lot of time in if I buy the expansion) and more similar to core map mobs. So even if I go slap around WvW mobs with the new elite specs I don’t think I’ll really get a feel for how they perform in PoF PvE. Toss in always having to look over my shoulder for enemy players looking to gank “PvE scrubs”, I still think another beta to test elite specs in PvE PoF maps would be useful. Anyway that’s just my opinion.
I think the feedback next weekend will be interesting to say the least.

August 20: 30% off Crystal Savant Outfit and Exemplar Attire, 20% off Golden Feather Wings Glider Combo
From the GW2 sales page
Pre-purchase before launch and receive one Sunspear Weapon Skin of your choice, a Miniature Balthazar, and the title of Elonian Envoy.
You cannot apply the 2 expansions to different accounts via the bundle. The bundle for PoF + HoT is one key and can’t be used separately. That said the only time the key is automatically added to an account is if you buy it through the in game store. If purchased in the web store (other authorized retailers) the key is emailed to you and you have to add it to your account via the “My Account” page.
To gift buy it from the GW2 web store or other authorized retailer (when available) and once you get the game key provide it to your friend. Just don’t register it and don’t buy it through the in game store as the in game store automatically adds it to your account if you don’t have it already. Of course if you already have PoF on your account the in game store won’t be an option anyway.
Do not log into their account to do so. That is a very bad idea for many reasons.
Lastly, welcome to the forum and your first post. It can be a bit weird here at times but don’t be a stranger.

Having no real interest in mounts as the expac’s big seller, I also found not being able to test the new elites in the PvE demo unfavorable. Not being a big mount fan and only viewing a limited map during demo, the new elites were one of my main points of interest. Not being able to test them in PvE doesn’t increase my desire to buy PoF.
The lack of trying the new elites in PvE is something I have seen mentioned many times via feedback on the forums. Perhaps given current feedback Anet will throw in another demo/beta weekend to allow people to try them in PvE before launch. At least I hope so. As they say, I guess I can wish in one hand and censored in the other and see which gets filled up first. Time will tell.
As it stands now and from what I have seen during the demo (including things I liked and didn’t) I’m most certainly going to wait until after PoF goes live for player feedback before I consider buying.

NOW you get stacking unidentified gear that I assume stack to 250 and now you have:
1. Option to salvage
2. Option to have discover the gear then salvage.Of course it meets those things but you also forgot if you want to identify your loot you have to pay for it and go out of your way to visit a heart vendor, which is a heart you will have to do each day because they reset, if you want to identify your loot as it exits now. I think this is the major complaint from most people. Who wants to do a boring heart for the 100th day in a row to identify their loot and pay a tax on top of that? Maybe some people but not me. Like stated earlier I’m sure if Anet insists on this there will be an identify-o-matic in the gem store. That doesn’t make this better though.
I think paying for identification is fine. It creates a relatively small gold sink.
However, I can understand the ‘have to redo the heart for the 100th’ time complaint. Perhaps they should add identification to normal merchants on the map after meeting a certain requirement (such as completing all the hearts once maybe?). I can understand that they want us to replay the content, and I can understand that some people just dont enjoy redoing hearts, but there should be some means of getting to a happy medium,.
Yeah I’m mostly okay with the gold sink but as it stands now I think the current cost is a bit high. My guess after the feedback given is the cost will go down a bit if this mechanic is kept in place. I’m also guessing given feedback there will be a vendor to identify that doesn’t require the heart. Maybe an NPC in one of the gem store passes though.
Just my thoughts.
I also hope if they continue with this there is a happy medium. Hopefully Anet has gathered a lot of good feedback so far and will find a way to do so.

I think if unidentified gear was separated by rarity, had a reduced cost to identify (maybe increased cost based on rarity of unidentified gear) and didn’t require completing a reset heart every day you want to identify it, most would be content with that. At least that is what I get so far from the feedback I have seen.

Like map not over dense with annoying mobs like HoT, don’t have to feel like I’m in constant combat or running for my life. Mounts, didn’t want but neutral for now, they seem to look good at least. First mastery point I find on the start map a timed mini game – do not like. Unidentified loot mechanic no thanks as I understand it now. Didn’t like I could not test new elites in PvE. 100 words or fewer.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
PoF standard does not come with a character slot. The HoT standard character slot was only for pre-purchases as a bonus and due to complaints at the time. So if you buy Deluxe PoF or Ultimate you will only get 1 character slot and none for PoF standard.
I use gw2efficiency.com for crafting big ticket items like ascended and legendary. Once you set it up with your API key it will show you what you have already, what you need and so forth. It will show current cost to craft based on what you need to buy. As you complete certain steps it will keep track of your progress.
^ You might want to post that in one of the PoF feedback threads. This thread is for feedback on the last LS3 episode.
This seems to be the main PoF feedback thread.

You will have to submit a support ticket and ask. The support link is located at the top of the page. Sometimes that link can be buggy when accessing it from the forum and provide an error page. If it use use the support link from the GW2 main web page. Do not do a charge back, if you were considering that, as that will get your entire account shut down.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
You can not split them up between accounts.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I would suggest you play the core game for a bit before you decide on buying expansions since it has been 5 years since you played. Servers only matter for WvW now as PvE uses mega servers where players from all servers in the same region NA or EU play together.
Yeah the ascended “unique” confusion has popped up many times for as long as I have been following the forums. It isn’t something “unique” to you.
So don’t feel bad and the good news is customer support has shown they can easily resolve the issue.
It probably would be an overly complicated process for Anet to do, maybe not even possible, but perhaps they should make the unidentified loot system a mastery or just a settings option so those that like it could use it and those that don’t get regular loot. Much like being able to choose between using auto loot or not.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
You can name it anything you want. Just keep it in your mind what you named your mount. It can be personal to you. I already named mine “Unnecessary Screen Clutter”. Do we really need more name tags on the screen aside from character names and their pets if playing ranger? How many more names do we need all over the screen before it becomes annoying? Of course if was included as an option to turn mount names off I don’t see a problem.
