HoT Standard Edition for old core accounts
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892
The free character slot with HoT was indeed only for pre-purchse. That has not changed and I doubt it will.
L80 boost is one time per account. You can’t upgrade to the expansion more than one time on the same account anyway. So you can’t do that to get another L80 boost on the same account. If you buy the expansion again and create a new account or apply it to an account that doesn’t have HoT you would get the L80 boost on that separate account.

You’re welcome. I hope your friends and family enjoy GW2 should they decide to give it a try.
Free to play covers pretty much all core content with some restrictions. Here is a list of restrictions for free to play accounts:
https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/230165307-Account-types-Free-Core-HoT
You’re welcome. I hope you enjoy HoT.
In your hero panel there is a section for your story journal. Select to start the HoT story “Rally to Maguuma” and it will direct you were to go. You will start in the Silverwastes and continue on to the starting HoT map.
As you stated above report them and let Anet sort it out. Here is a post from Anet about this issue since you asked:
I’ll pitch in on this thread, as there seems to be some confusion about this situation.
The auto-cast feature was never intended to be used as an AFK farming mechanism, and usage of the auto-cast feature while AFK is fine as long as it is not used to facilitate unattended gameplay.
Mastery auto-loot also stopping players from being flagged afk seems like a bug instead of a feature, and I’ll be sure to bring it up today while we have a chat about this internally.
1) Using skill (1 or more) while AFK
2) AFKing in a place where it is beneficial for your character to be at
3) Unresponsive to interaction with GMsIf all 3 of these apply to what you are doing, you may get actioned for it.
There are several other Anet staff posts in the thread I linked. I’m just to lazy to quote them all.

The help page indicates that is still locked to the shared slot until consumed.
https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/222385027-Level-80-Boost
Can I save the boost in my bank to use later?
No. To prevent accidental deletion or loss, the boost is bound to the free shared inventory slot that it comes with. It must be consumed to free up the bonus shared inventory space.
The only version of HoT you can upgrade to from standard HoT is the HoT Deluxe version which is available in the gem store.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns%E2%80%94Digital_Deluxe_Upgrade
The Ultimate Edition is not an available upgrade. Do note that there is a core game Deluxe upgrade in the gem store as well so if you decide to upgrade your standard HoT to Deluxe make sure you select the right one.
You can also move the boost item out of that slot, into a bag or bank, any time you want. Don’t have to keep it hanging out there.
Was that a change they made? It was always locked into that slot until consumed as far as I know.
To be fair though, often the problem is the character limit for thread titles. This leads to some thread titles that would be more descriptive having to be cut off. Of course the person posting the thread could abbreviate and such but I can see where it can cause a problem. I’ve run into it in the past at times trying to figure out how much I can abbreviate or cut off to get under the character limit for the thread title to make sense.

^^ I think that was part of the OP’s point.
I’m a highly competitive person in real life both professionally and the real world sports I play. When I play GW2 during my limited time for computer games it is a nice break from that so I don’t bother with PvP or WvW really.
You could try reporting yourself for violating the terms of service for letting your friend play your account. Of course it may be easier to just change your game password, email password and not let your friend know what those passwords are. You could even have support change the email address associated with your account to one your friend does not have access to.
I hope your friend does not have access yo your bank account info. It seems to me you really need to work on securing your information from your friend.

As stated above, you will need to submit a support ticket for assistance.
You will have to submit a support ticket and ask. The support link is located at the top of the page.
GW2 uses what they call mega servers. This means that players from all servers in the same region, either NA or EU, play together on merged PvE maps. The only thing that really matters for server aside from region is WvW where players are locked into playing on the server they selected for their account (although you can pay for a sever transfer later if you don’t like the server you are on for WvW). You can view a list of servers and where they rank in WvW following the leaderboard link under the “Community” link at the top of the page. Please note that many of the top severs in WvW are often full but if you are interested in playing WvW this might help you make a decision.
For more information you may find this article on the GW2 wiki helpful.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World
The wiki is very helpful overall for most things GW2 related as it is a great resource for new and experienced players.
Welcome to GW2.

The link provided above has instructions. Should you need additional help I would suggest submitting a support ticket as I am sure Anet support will be happy to guide you through it.
You can use an authentication app that does not go through your cell phone and it is free. More information here:
https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/230673087-Help-with-the-Authenticator-App
Thank you for the post Mike. It is good to see communication like this and I’m guessing many appreciate being kept in the loop.
You don’t have to do the core personal story to access HoT content and unlock the gliding mastery. In your hero panel there is a section for your story journal. Select to start the HoT story “Rally to Maguuma” and it will direct you were to go. You will start in the Silverwastes and continue on to the starting HoT map.
Perhaps this?

Also if you are interested you can find many GW2 songs on Anet’s SoundCloud page:

Anet has stated they are working on a 2nd expansion. I don’t think you will have to worry about a GW 3 for a very long time if ever.
Oh i didnt even know you can find gw2 from retailers.
GW2 authorized retailers by country. You can select retail or digital options.
You caught me before the edit. It seems the instructions are a bit dated. The link to link accounts can be found at the bottom of the “Game Content” page once you login to your account page.
Note: The directions say to follow the “link accounts” found on the left hand side. I just looked and noticed the link is found under the “Game Content” link of the account page.

Here is the chart that covers the different types of accounts.
https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/230165307-Account-types-Free-Core-HoT
The only way to remove the free to play restrictions is to buy the game.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
There is a 72 hour hold. This was put in place due to cases of fraud in the past.
On a side note since you mentioned “wasting an extractor” I hope you are not using the gem store upgrade extractor to remove your infusions. In case you are, there is an infusion extractor you can buy from the fractal merchant for 24 silver.
You will still be able to play core personal story.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Since you just came back, if you do not have HoT or have not tried it yet give it a go. The mobs there and the mob density are probably what you are looking for. There are loads of veteran mobs, mobs all over the place in groups, and more mobs with different dynamics like break bars. What you suggested for more difficulty pretty much describes one of the big things some people have been critical of when it comes to HoT maps.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
No, you can’t reset them.
I think we should be able to make a salvage-o-matic mini out of them!
I agree. It would be nice to be able to mystic forge or turn them into the black lion trader for a mini salvage-o-matic. However, not if the mini walks around constantly spitting out the same dialog it does when salvaging. That would be annoying.
Another idea would be to be able to convert them into some kind of guild hall decoration.

Make sure you don’t have your status set to invisible. That is the usual issue that causes the not in a guild message.
Yes, you can buy dyes on the trading post for in game coin that are colors you want. I never buy those gem store RNG dye packs due to the odds of getting some low value dye I don’t need or want. You can also craft unidentified dyes of various colors with Chef. However as an unidentified dye the final result may not be what you want and the mats are often more valuable than the dye.
The wiki has lists of dyes if you are not sure what their names are on the TP:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dye#Colors
Also while shopping the TP for dyes you can use the preview function to get an idea of what they look like before buying.

The only time you have to buy living story with gems is if you did not at least log in once while each episode is active. If you log in when they are active you get them for free. So if you did indeed miss all or parts of LS2 and parts of LS3 by not logging in you can by them with gems to play them. However, you can party with someone that has them if you just want to do it for the story. You won’t earn any of the achievements that way though. It is worth noting that completing achievements with LS2 and 3 award mastery points which you may very much want to earn to advance your various mastery unlocks.
As for good items to by with gems here is a thread on the topic from just the other day. Sorry, I’m feeling too lazy to list a bunch because I agree with most suggested in the other thread.

Yes it should go with you guild membership is no longer locked to regions or servers.
Here are are some posts where others have said it works fine.

If you want to be extra safe you can make a free account and promote to guild leader as well. That account won’t be able to access the guild vault but should anything go wrong with your main account you will have a leader on the free account to invite your main back. I have a second account I use for that very reason so I always have a backup leader in case I do something weird to my main account.

To access the HoT content make sure you have the HoT story activated in your hero panel to start the first part of the story. This will lead you to the Silverwastes and start the part of the story to get into the HoT maps.
About the mastery system:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery
Elite specilzation info:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Specialization#Elite_specializations
You will need more hero points to fully unlock your elite specialization. The ones in HoT award 10 point each. You can also earn one point each in core maps if you have not already earned them. However you will end up having to earn at least a few of the HoT hero challenges to fully unlock the elite. Lastly, in WvW you can earn proofs of heroics which you can spend to unlock/earn hero points: 10 proofs for one random HoT hero point or one proof for a core hero point.

You can try guesting to another server to see if it shows your unaffected stats. According to the wiki article I linked the WvW buff does affect a player guesting.
You are not losing any health based on you character’s build because of WvW. You will only gain more health based on your server’s WvW performance. Then after reset the buff goes back to zero until your server scores points again.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
The WvW buff is independent of what you do. You can’t control it. The link above will explain more.
Probably the WvW buff. Depending on how your server is doing you will often see your health go up a bit or down a bit especially right after reset.

To convert soulbound infinite tools to account bound put them in your inventory, not equipped, and visit the blacklion weapon trader.
The unbreakable set includes one of each, not one of each for every character. They are also account bound and can be swapped between characters.
If you have shared inventory slots available you can use them to switch the tools between characters faster and without having to use a bank. If you keep a set of basic tools you can move the infinite tools between characters fairly fast by using the right click “equip” option. This will put the basic tools in the shared slot and equip the infinite tools. Then when you are ready to switch characters do the same, right click equip the basic tools in the shared slot and the infinite ones will go into the shared slot.

Anet’s target for support tickets is 72 hours or less. If after 72 hours with no response you can post your ticket number for review in the sticky thread at the top of this forum. If you did not at least receive the auto reply email when you submitted your ticket there is a sticky thread above you can review to make sure emails from Anet are not being blocked by your email provider.
Why do i never get a reply from Cust Service?

In game reports are for reporting in game bugs and such. You will not receive a response to those. If you have an issue that support needs to handle you have to submit a support ticket through the web page. You can find the link to submit a support ticket at the top of the page.

Also, I never played GW1 but I thought if your GW1 account is linked with your GW2 account then the login becomes the same as what you use for GW2.

You can buy bags with more slots on the trading post. If you have unused character slots you can make a character to use as a mule. Later on when you have the funds to buy gems either with real money or gold you can buy extra bag slots as you noted as well as extra bank space.
As far as managing your limited space, if you find your bags filling up with materials you can click the cog in the upper right of the inventory panel and select “deposit all materials”. This will automatically deposit your mats into your bank material storage and free up some space.
At any vendor in the sell tab you can select “sell junk” and this will quickly sell all your junk items at one time. Also you can access your bank not only from bank NPCs but also from any crafting station if you need it.
Finally, you can place items for sale/buy items on the TP from anywhere. This also helps free up space. You just have to open the TP panel and select sell. This will remove the item from your inventory and put it on the TP (note there is a 5% listing fee up front and another 10% tax once sold. So don’t try to use the TP to store items. ) You will have to actually go to a TP to pick up any items bought or coin from sales though.
To help you out a bit I just mailed you a 12 slot bag.

Can ArenaNet approve of the link given above and ensure me I would not lose/get my account banned if I decide to buy the game from that source?
You can verify it yourself by looking at Anet’s list of authorized retailers here. If it isn’t listed you are taking a risk.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers/
For example DL Gamer shows as an authorized retailer under the list for the UK, US and several other countries.
