I don’t think Anet is going to take the time to go through 5 years of forum threads to try to identify which threads are no longer relevant.

Night mode for forums

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Not via your forum settings. Anet has stated several times they have no means to update/fix the forum as it is now, see broken search function, page error after 50 posts, and the buggy support link in the header. So a night mode is doubtful. Maybe some day they will acquire new forum software that works with more options and something they have the ability to modify if needed. Given how long the current forum has been broken and how long it has been since they said they were possibly looking into a better solution, I would not count on the forums having anything more available than what they currently offer.

Reference December 8, 2014 (I included in bold where they said they were looking into other options):

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Forum-s-search-feature-doesn-t-work-A-tip/first#post4612877

The problem is deep within the technology behind the forum structure itself. Yes, we had a search engine in the beginning, but it was broken by our forum contractor in the course of working on other things. We no longer have a relationship with that contractor or his company, and someone else is not able to step into the system and fix the search engine because (1) our programmers are tasked with other essential work, (2) the forums run on a web framework with which most of our programmers are not familiar and (3) we’re investigating other options for forums and it would not be prudent to pour money into hiring someone to fix this as a short-term solution.

My team agrees that it would be great to share the system that is outlined in the OP, and we’re going to figure out a way to do that. It won’t be as simple as “plumbing” the current search window to go to Google — each of us still will need to input the search manually, but it’s better than the current “poke and prod” to find a particular post!

Insert rant: I can’t speak for Anet, but personally I find the limited and broken forum an embarrassment for their product. When I am shopping around for new games to play one thing I always do is go to the game’s forum and search for topics I’m interested in, to learn what people are saying on topics related to the game that interest me. That isn’t an option for the GW2 forum because it is broken. If I were a person looking outside as a potential new customer interested in GW2 and saw they can’t even manage to have a working search function on their forum I’d probably wonder how the actual game was managed.

I understand that they probably go screwed over by the company that provided the current forum. I’m not sure what limitations contractually that involves and what they are limited to changing. However, in my opinion if Anet wants to keep things going and procure new customers a working web presence (see recent problems with purchase page)/forum will make them look better as a company.

If not for GW2 Reddit, which has a lot more dev interaction as it is, I wonder if Anet would have solved their forum problem by now.

PoF versus HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Personally I hope the maps are more like core and a lot less like HoT. I’d prefer maps that are not dense in annoying trash mobs (at least Anet toned that down a bit in the HoT revamp, but pocket raptors, blah), and are not in my opinion, map wide jump puzzles. However, they mentioned the word puzzle several times during the announcement especially when discussing the use of mounts so I’m a bit concerned that full map exploration will be more like HoT. Many people stated they really like the Hot style maps. So maybe PoF maps will be a bit of a compromise and a hybrid of HoT and core. I’ll wait until the open beta to have a look before I consider purchasing.

Skepticism about XP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I’m at least waiting for the open beta events to try it before I even entertain the idea of pre-purchasing it. Even then I’ll most likely wait until after launch for player reviews, videos and such before buying it if I do at all. The pre-purchase bonus items are not appealing to me so I’m in no rush.

I know some people like the HoT style maps but if PoF has similar maps that are, in my opinion, like massive jump puzzles I’m going to pass on the expansion. I’m a bit concerned because they kept mentioning the word “puzzle” during the announcement stream.

80-boost questions

in Players Helping Players

JustTrogdor.7892

About the L80 boost:

https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/222385027-Level-80-Boost

You can always use it on a current L80 if you just want the stuff that comes with it.

What if all my characters are already level 80?

You can choose to either create a new character or to consume the boost with one of your existing level 80 characters. Using the boost on a level 80 character will deliver the package of rewards that is normally delivered when making the boost permanent. However, there is no trial for an existing level 80 character, so the item will be permanently consumed if it is used by a level 80 character. You will need to confirm twice before the item is consumed if you want to use it on an existing level 80

Stuff you get with the L80 boost:

Does the new expansion include HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

^ If you do not have HoT on an account and buy PoF, HoT is an add on available during purchase for $20. HoT is not included with PoF standard $29.99, or with the base price of PoF Deluxe/Ultimate. As stated it is an additional purchase for accounts without HoT. So $49.99 total for PoF + HoT standard, which is what most people paid for standard HoT when it was released.

Does the new expansion include HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Q: Is Heart of Thorns included for free when I buy Path of Fire?

A: No. As we said when we announced Heart of Thorns, we always want to give you the option to purchase both expansions for a single price. With the purchase of any edition of Path of Fire, you can add in Heart of Thorns during checkout and purchase both expansions together for less than the combined prices of the expansions. If you already own Heart of Thorns or only want to play Path of Fire, you can purchase Path of Fire separately.

I checked FAQ and didn’t find that, could you provide a link?

I still haven’t bought HoF, so I’m not sure if buying PoF will include HoF expac.

Still getting this error via Firefox. When I open it in a private window to block cookies and such I get a busted up page see attached image below, turned off ad blocker same thing. I think Anet management really needs to have a serious meeting with their web developers. This is not a good thing for such a big day that should be generating easy sales. Lily of the Elon Permanent Pass?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

What do the newer areas have that the Royal Terrace doesn’t? I haven’t got any of them but I was under the impression they all had the same services and it was only the appearance of the area and the location on the world map that was different.

I know some people are adamant that one is better but it’s usually for highly personal reasons like the tailoring station is nearer the TP and they buy more materials when crafting light armour than anything else so that makes it better for them.

Examples: The Mistlock Sanctuary Pass has an entrance to Fractals. The Captain’s Airship Pass has access to the activity NPC as well as Lava Lounge. Lava Lounge, Noble’s Folly, and Captains also have access to black lion weapons merchant that RT does not.

i thoink all those items are available only during pre-oreder of deluxe/ultimate edition, or after with normal sale on same deals.
Same with revenant finisher(example) at HoT etc

Those items, if like other upgraded packages, will still be available after pre-purchase. From the sales page these are the items limited to pre-purchase:

Pre-purchase: Receive a Miniature Balthazar, the “Elonian Envoy” title, and a Sunspear Weapon Skin of your choice.

And the pre-purchase bonuses I listed above apply to Standard as well.

Lily of the Elon Permanent Pass?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Minor correction – the other permanent passes have cost 1000 gems each.

But yeah, if it’s literally the only thing in the Deluxe Edition you want then you’re better off buying the normal edition and getting either this pass or another one from the gem store.

Again I wonder if the new pass will remain exclusive to those with Deluxe/Ultimate or if they will sell it a separate item later. I have the Royal Terrace pass but it seems the newer passes have been adding more features to them so my poor old RT pass has been falling behind in features. So if it is exclusive to the upgrade packages it will be more interesting to me. I like less crowed “special” places.

I’m with you, the other upgrade items don’t do much for me but if I decide to buy the expansion the pass and gems is probably what will get me to buy the Ultimate package. Path of fire anouncment - Feedback

JustTrogdor.7892

Didn’t really see enough to give much feedback. Mounts… blah. My concern from watching the announcement program is that the maps look like they may be more multi tiered massive jumping puzzles similar to dry top and HoT maps which I hate. I hope that’s not the case. I’ll wait till I participate in the open beta weekend to see if I’ll pre-purchase or not.

Well… That’s a shame.

Personally I loved what HoT did with the maps. I hope for more from the new ones, and that seems to be what I am getting.

I think the mounts look fun. I wonder if we’re getting to use them in previous maps. So what if we have waypoints? We get more fun ways to travel and explore. GW2 has always done the travelling animations very well, they feel floaty and heavy, yet agile and bouncy, and that’s all animation work. If they can put the same amount of effort into the mounts, I’m game.

I’m glad you enjoy those style of maps as others have stated they do as well. In my case I wouldn’t really describe it as a shame though if that is what we are getting. As I stated I’ll wait to see what is going on during the open beta. If they are HoT style maps again I’ll simply pass on buying the expansion. I’ll be slightly disappointed that Anet’s newest product doesn’t appeal to me but no big deal really. I’m just one customer so I’m sure Anet will be fine financially if I don’t buy it.

3 elite specialization weapons missing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I’ll copy and paste each elite spec blurb from the page for those that have trouble viewing it:

Engineer:

By harnessing the power of the sun, holosmiths can create semisolid constructs of light. They wield swords in battle and gain access to powerful light weapons in their volatile Photon Forge mode.

Guardian:

These zealous lorekeepers are skilled in conjuring magical fire, and they use axes and mantras in close combat. Their virtues are replaced by conjured tomes, which act as weapons to rebuke enemies and protect allies..

Thief:

Mercenaries for hire, deadeyes stalk and mark their targets and generate malice toward them, increasing damage and harassing them with harmful effects. They use rifles for precise kills.

Warrior:

The broken weapons of the Sunspears have become daggers in the hands of their descendants, which they use to strike at the very fabric of magic and strip it from their foes. They meditate to see past their enemies’ defenses, and they use their adrenaline to counter attacks

Mesmer:

Mirages move through battle like shifting sand, cloaking themselves rather than dodging attacks. Their graceful, swirling axes and prismatic mirrors are as deceptively beautiful as they are deadly.

Necromancer:

Scourges channel their life force into the desert sands to summon biddable shades that damage enemies and create shields for their allies. They use punishment skills to torment their enemies, and they wield torches to light the path to their destruction.

Elementalist:

Weavers can attune to two different elements simultaneously, deftly cycling them from hand to hand and combining them to powerful effect. They favor swords in battle, and they channel the strength of the elements using their stance skills.

Ranger:

The bond between a soulbeast and their pet is so strong that they can become one in spirit. By channeling their pet, they become a single entity, attacking with fanglike dagger strikes and using the abilities of their companion and its archetype.

Revenant:

The legendary charr revolutionary, Kalla Scorchrazor, lends the power of her warband to revenants who summon her from the Mists. Renegades fight with a short bow, firing conjured arrows through Mist portals to blindside their enemies.

Single-make legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I agree with the OP. HoT legendary items are account bound and can’t be sold on the TP. With the work that Anet has put into creating them it makes sense to allow players to craft more than one for their alts if they don’t want to juggle them via the bank/shared slots. I don’t really see a down side to allowing players to craft multiple account bound legendary items if they so choose. It may even encourage players to map complete on alts in the HoT maps, thus possibly increasing map population as GW2 moves on to expac 3. If players want to spend a massive amount of time, gold, and mats to craft a duplicate account bound legendary I don’t see a problem with that.

Thanks for 9 new core mastery points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

^^^ I hope it isn’t because they are planning to add more core masteries. If so, I wasted those 9 points if a new mastery is something I really want.

My guess is that with all the new HoT/S3 maps it has been increasingly more difficult for newer players to earn core mastery points. Not to mention a lot of core mastery points have been very difficult to achieve from the start. Where as there seems to be a large and ever increasing amount of mastery points in HoT/S3 that are fairly easy to obtain. So maybe they wanted to balance it out a bit.

My other thought on this is maybe Anet noticed not many players have maxed out the legendary crafting mastery. With the work they have put in on the new legendary weapons maybe they hope people that have been short of points will pursue it. With expac 3 coming up perhaps they want people to want to work toward HoT legendary weapons and continue in the HoT maps for map completion to do so.

I know that applies to me. I was lacking maxing legendary crafting so didn’t give a hoot about HoT map completion. Now I’m actually going to give it a go since the new points allowed me to complete the legendary crafting mastery. If there is a new core mastery in expac 3 I guess I screwed myself by using those points.

AdBlocker software.

… is what’s causing it.

Works fine for me in Firefox using uBlock.

I’ve been needing those for some time for core Tyria. Thanks for adding them.

For those that may not know about them someone posted a helpful guide to finding them on Reddit.
