Wrong. A very important part of the demo/beta experience is for customers to provide feedback. If there is something they see in the demo they like or do not like they very much should state it well before launch. This will give Anet a chance to evaluate the feedback and see if they should consider making any changes before launch day.
How valuable can feedback be if we as a player base cannot fully comprehend the extent of a feature we’re criticising? Coming across a feature and then “freaking out about it” without fully understanding it, isn’t good feedback.
All I’m saying is, people should be more cautious and keep in mind that there might be more to it than what we’ve seen so far in the demo.
Because it let’s Anet know what people do and do not like about the feature as it is seen and comprehended by what is made available in the demo. That is valuable feedback. I don’t see much “freaking out” in this thread. I see a discussion on why some people like the feature as presented in the demo and some people do not. A discussion of the perceived benefits as well as the perceived negatives. It really isn’t a hard system to comprehend as is exits in the demo, you either salvage your unidentified loot or go to a heart vendor and pay to see what your loot is. People are simply stating what they like or do not like about the current presentation. There have even been some good suggestions on how to improve it without getting rid of it entirely like marking unidentified loot by rarity so players can better decide if they should salvage or pay to open it. If people held their feedback off until after launch day as you suggested we might see another HoT fiasco which I think is something Anet is really trying to avoid this time.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Another thing to remember is that this is just a demo and a lot of things can change. We don’t know everything there is to know about this feature, so we shouldn’t be too quick to judge. Save your outcries of frustration and despair for after September 22nd ;3

^ Pretty much everything new is designed to generate gem sales as that is crucial to their business model. So I can’t say I blame them.
It’s bad because rare and exotic items can hide in the “unidentified” label. If you just salvage, you’ll never know. If you ID, you have to go to a heart vendor (and I assume you have to have done the heart) then pay to ID them — by each, then pay to salvage.
IMO, it’s a lot of run around and extra fuss to save a bit of inventory space.
Don’t worry, I’m sure the 800-1000 gems item that will let you identify them outside of the heart vendor is already completed and hitting the gem store shortly after launch.
Then I suppose you could try to repair the client and if that doesn’t help a support ticket is probably the way to go.
So with this unidentified gear it not only costs coin to identify it but you also have to go to a heart vendor to do it? Seems like an annoying system just to save some bag space.
Are you actually at the TP? You have to be at an actual TP to withdraw gold and purchases.
I didn’t like it either. My first impression was, “Cool an easy mastery point in the starting area to give me a start on my new mastery.” Then , “Darn a timed mini game similar to HoT adventures.” I thought some of the feedback from HoT was that people didn’t care for such things, maybe I am wrong. At least it isn’t locked behind a certain time on the map. Not my cup of tea as I find it not really challenging in a good way and more just annoying, but I suppose some people like things like that. An activity players will only complete once and never do again, maybe thankfully, because mastery points are account wide.

I can open the world map no problem while mounted by simply pressing my map key.
I have not seen anything in the demo that will convince me to per-purchase PoF. So far all I have seen is shiny mount jump around gizmo and a significant FPS loss which forced me to dial my graphic settings down. I wish I could have tested the new elite specs in PvE. As a mostly PvE player that might have given me a better idea what I am getting in the expansion aside from mounts which I could do without if only they were not required.
The only thing I saw that I cared for was the demo map is not packed dense with annoying mobs that are not necessarily challenging but just obnoxious like HoT maps. I didn’t feel like I had to choose between running for my life or being in a constant state of combat as I explored.
I’m glad the pre-purchase bonuses don’t appeal to me. I can wait until after launch for those that have jumped on the grenade played the expansion awhile and given feedback to decide.

The number one pro mount argument was, “If you don’t like mounts don’t use them”. Well it appears mounts are required to explore the new maps, do the story and so forth even if you don’t like them or they make you sick. I’m sorry to see that mounts are making people sick and I hope Anet has a fix for it. Required game mechanics should not make people feel motion sick and I think Anet will find a solution.

Mounts need to be disabled within a certain range of important NPCs, TP, bank, crafting stations etc. As it is now mounts are only disabled when a player interacts with the NPC. This does not stop trolls from stacking on top of NPCs with their mounts to annoy others.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
This has been an issue for a long long time as well. There needs to be a zone around NPC’s that prevent use of mounts, boxes of fun, aviators boxes, and so on.
Agree 100%
Nice, I can’t wait to see more of this around important NPCs. Especially with super sparkle gems store mounts. /s I edited names, chat and such to protect the innocent.
First mastery point I go to in the new map, cool it’s close in the new city and will help me get an easy start on the new mastery. Dang, it’s a darned timed annoying mini game similar to HoT adventures. I’d rather fight champions , solve a small JP, solve a riddle, or eat my own face than doing time based mini games, just my opinion. I don’t like them, but I suppose many do.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
It also keeps the childish trolls from intentionally swarming key vendors and/or NPCs with their mounts with the intention of making them difficult to interact with.
No it doesn’t. Trolls can still stack on NPCs with their mounts as long as they don’t interact with the NPC. What they need to do is make a range around NPCs where it automatically dismounts, maybe something simple like 300 range. It doesn’t really make it harder to interact because you can always just use your interact key to access the NPC (some exceptions could be in areas like the Royal Terrace crafting areas where NPC and crafting benches are close together) but it certainly has the potential to be visually annoying if that is the goal of trolls.

Significant FPS drop doesn’t do much for me. I lost around 15-20 FPS in the PoF maps even when not around anything in particular. First picture is in DR around several other players, their pets, mini’s etc. Second picture is in PoF with two players unmounted in field of view (blocked by the settings window). It gets even worse when you get out in the PoF open world and around slightly more activity and basic mobs.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
As per the text on the loading screen states, you do not keep any progress or anything else.
It doesn’t really solve the issue of standing on NPCs with mounts because it doesn’t auto dismount within a certain range of an NPC, only when you interact with it. So people can still troll by stacking mounts around NPCs. Of course they could already do that with regular player characters but this could make it even more annoying.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Significant drop in FPS… I was afraid of that.
Is that a number of people thing do you think or the upped specs?
I don’t think it is is the number of people. I noticed it in the starting instance and in open world where I was not around other players. They did increase their minimum requirements when PoF opened for pre-purchase.
Significant drop in FPS… I was afraid of that.
You can upgrade from Standard to Deluxe via the gem store.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Path_of_Fire%E2%80%94Digital_Deluxe_Upgrade
You cannot upgrade from Standard or Deluxe to Ultimate.
From the PoF FAQ:
https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010688287-Guild-Wars-2-Path-of-Fire-FAQ
Q: If I purchased the Standard Edition of Path of Fire, can I upgrade to Deluxe or Ultimate?
A: You can purchase a digital Deluxe Edition upgrade through the Black Lion Trading Company in-game store. The Ultimate Edition of Path of Fire must be purchased as a complete edition, and the Standard and Deluxe Editions can’t be upgraded to Ultimate.

^ Yep it will be emailed to you and you can then send it to your friend.
To gift buy it from the GW2 web store or other authorized retailer (when available) and once you get the game key provide it to your friend. Just don’t register it and don’t buy it through the in game store as the in game store automatically adds it to your account if you don’t have it already. Of course if you already have PoF on your account the in game store won’t be an option anyway.
Do not log into their account to do so. That is a very bad idea for many reasons.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I didn’t think it was included either but glad that was cleared up and the wiki corrected for others who may visit the wiki for information in the upgrade.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
^ Out of curiosity what does the gem store state is included with the
PoF deluxe upgrade? Perhaps you could include a screen shot and the wiki can be updated if the information is incorrect, which it may be.

I’m aware of what the wiki is and who can edit it and I’m not saying you are incorrect. I’m stating that I can see where it could be a point of confusion since the wiki states that upgrading from PoF standard to deluxe includes a L80 boost, “In-game description”. Have you upgraded from standard to verify that it does not include another L80 boost? I think as far as the OP’s question is concerned maybe someone that has upgraded could provide a solid answer and perhaps update the wiki if it is incorrect.
I have not purchased PoF yet, waiting for the beta and later to decide, so I can’t verify what it says in the gem store for the PoF deluxe upgrade. I’d be interested to see what the gem store itself states is included with the upgrade for those that have PoF standard. Maybe that would provide further evidence.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
No. You get one per expansion.
I’m not sure if it does but I can see where there is some confusion. According to the wiki the gem store upgrade to PoF Deluxe comes with a Max-Level Boost.

Now tons of people are rushing to that POI to get the chests which are disabled. It would be hilarious if Anet put some kind of prank item in them once fixed. Maybe once opened you get 1 hour of bobble head you can’t turn off or it turns your character into the generic character model. Or maybe they give you 50 minor sigils or runes, a total troll for people that complain about getting them all the time. A late April fools prank of sorts.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I have seen adverts for mobile developers from time to time in Anet’s job listings so it would not surprise me. Mobile games are huge cash machines for a lot of developers. For some reason people love buying stuff while they are on the toilet.

To unlock gliding open your story journal in the hero panel and select the first Heart of Thorns personal story. This will take you to first story in the HoT maps where you can unlock the mastery and earn the mastery points to enable gliding.
To unlock HoT elite specializations you will need enough hero points to do so. There are not enough hero points in core maps to fully unlock the elite specialization, so you will have to either get the rest in HoT maps or you can use proof of heroics from WvW to buy them.
Of course this requires having HoT. I noticed you mentioned you bought PoF but didn’t state if you already own HoT so I thought I would mention that.

Revenant is not useless, it’s my 3rd most played profession. It just plays a lot different from other professions. I’d suggest playing through easier maps on it to get used to it and work your way up from there.

Q: Is Heart of Thorns included for free when I buy Path of Fire?
A: No. As we said when we announced Heart of Thorns, we always want to give you the option to purchase both expansions for a single price. With the purchase of any edition of Path of Fire, you can add in Heart of Thorns during checkout and purchase both expansions together for less than the combined prices of the expansions. If you already own Heart of Thorns or only want to play Path of Fire, you can purchase Path of Fire separately.
the answer would be no
Why would the answer be no? HoT Ultimate was available after release. I see no reason why PoF would be any different and there is nothing in the PoF FAQ that indicates it is pre-purchase only. The only restrictions with Ultimate I know of is you can’t upgrade to it from Standard or Deluxe.
Once you buy it from there you will receive the game key via email that you can then provide to your friend to apply to her account.
To gift buy it from the web store or other authorized retailer (when available) and once you get the game key provide it to your friend. You might consider joining a guild for the hearing impaired (if that exists) or forming one of your own to do end game content with. Perhaps there are a lot of other players looking for something similar. I bet there are, as well as a lot of players that may not have hearing problems but are just uncomfortable using voice chat that may also be interested in a text only guild. I’m not trying to be inconsiderate but that is an option.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Yes. Like gliding every player using mounts in the core maps is a giant advertisement for core/HoT/free players that don’t own the expansion.
Core/HoT/free player, “Look at that Norn on his massive glittering laser Raptor! I want that.” Buys expansion.

^ So I wonder if there will be legendary mounts that offer the same thing?? Oh gosh now I’m feeling a bit dizzy, legendary mounts…..uggghhhh…….!!!!!! Be still my screen exploding with even more particle effects.
Inb4 the first thread asking for legendary mounts.
Don’t rush your spending. Those gems are not going anywhere. That said the things I have spent gems on that I found most useful were the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, permanent gathering tools, shared inventory slots, material storage expander, and the Royal Terrace Pass. Of course since you bought Ultimate you get the new Lily of the Elon Permanent Pass that you can use after launch, so no need to buy any of the existing passes that may be for sale at this time.
Given that there are most likely going to be new mount skins sold after launch you may want to save some gems if that interests you.
Again my advice is to hang on to the gems until you see something you really want that you feel will improve your gaming experience. Gems don’t expire so no reason to go on a crazy spending spree.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
^ I was embellishing a bit for the sake of humor.
I feel fairly certain one of the reasons they went through all the work to introduce mounts is for gem store sales. Look forward to every few weeks of something like, “Buy your sparkle fire blazing chicken mount in the gem store for a limited time.” I doubt you will see something in the game release notes like, “Complete this story collection to earn a special electro mega firework exploding rhinoceros mount.”
I can’t say I blame them. It makes good business sense. One thing I think they were smart in doing is that it appears that each mount has different abilities. So unlike gliders they are unique based on their skills. Skins that only apply to Springer mounts, skins only for Raptor mounts, etc. So they can sell skins that only apply to each of them. Pretty smart and $$.

I know, it was an endless discussion and your reasoning is flawless Was just wondering why this change was not mentioned by Anet.
Here is what they said.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pre-purchase-community-address/
In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.
I’m not trying to white knight here but that statement could be left to some degree of interpretation. For example they could have put on the sales page, “PoF + Hot and core game included buy now for $50. For PoF only buy for $30.” That, in my mind would fulfill the single price point statement as PoF, HoT and core are offered under a single price. I think it is the bundle add on part that is throwing some people off.
Here are some of Gaile’s comments on the topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/PoF-Purchase-Clarification/first#post6663746
Yes, and that’s what we’re doing. At no time did we say “everything preceding the XP is included, or free, or part of the cost of the XP.” We said that core GW2, HoT, and PoF would be offered for a single purchase, and that’s what’s happening.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/PoF-Purchase-Clarification/first#post6663765
As I said above, there was no you get a free game, and you get a free game, and you… As you will note with today’s announcement, there is an option to purchase a “bundle” for a reduced cost over the individual purchases, but the two expansion packs are not inter-dependent, and are separate purchases.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/PoF-Purchase-Clarification/first#post6663777
Folks, you really need to read the previous statement, not with what you thought it said, or hoped it said, or inferred it said, but read it for the value of what it actually said.
“In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.” We are offering the core game and the two expansion packs for a single purchase price. We are not offering the previous expansion pack for free, nor did we say we would.
I’ll end by stating I do wish that had included LS2 and LS3 in the PoF + HoT bundle for those that don’t have it. I think that would have been a great bonus to encourage first time customers to buy the game.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I seem to be missing something: When HoT came out, Anet announced that every new expansion would include ALL earlier content… For free! It was mentioned somewhere in the discussion about why new players got the core game for free when buying HoT, and those allready owning the core game got nothing extra. I don’t see this promise being honored now, since those who don’t have HoT are offered to buy it in a bundle with PoF… confused
PoF alone is sold at a lower price point than HoT was. The PoF plus HoT bundle costs $50, the same as HoT standard was sold at release. So if you look at it that way you are getting PoF + HoT at the same price as most people paid for HoT alone 2 years ago. They could have sold PoF for $50 and included HoT for those that don’t have it (and dealt with all the complaints of “veterans” feeling ripped off because they “are paying twice for something they already have”, see old threads in HoT forum) or gone with the current model.
Basically it all comes out in the wash and I prefer the current model which allows those without HoT and new customers to buy PoF at the lower price point if they are not interested in HoT. It also allows those of us that already have HoT to pay less for PoF without feeling like,“we are paying twice for something we already bought,” as some have stated in the past. Not me personally but there is a mega thread devoted to that very topic.
Even if they sold PoF including HoT at the current $30 price there would most likely be yet another mega thread of people complaining, “Why do new customers get HoT with PoF for $30 when I had to pay $50 for HoT alone 2 years ago?” So what it comes down to is would you rather have PoF cost $50 and include HoT for free even if you already have HoT or would you rather pay $30 for PoF and have HoT an optional $20 add on (which is $10 less than if you currently buy HoT alone via the GW2 web store)?

A mount that makes mine as well as all other player’s mounts invisible to me. In other words they all look like normal characters without mounts while in use. Given that it looks like mounts will be required to fully explore PoF and I don’t like the visual noise of mounts I’d pay 800 gems for that.

I’ve always had the best experience with bootcamp. I made the switch maybe about 1 and a half years ago. The 64 bit client is still very much in development mode and I’ve not had close to the same performance as I do with with bootcamp Windows. There are also still a lot of limitations with the Mac native client. I do look forward to the continued improvement of the Mac native client as I sometimes play on 2 other Macs that I have not installed bootcamp Windows on. Also I look forward to the day that I don’t have to boot into Windows to play on my main Mac. So for now based on my experience if you have the ability to run bootcamp Windows that is the best bet.

Like others I hope they have adventures for people that like them with some achievements points tied to them and maybe some tokens as a reward that can be used to buy a skin, mini, etc. related to them like SAB. Hopefully they are truly side content like the daily activity, keg brawl and such. I hope they do not gate any mastery points, collections or anything else related to advancing though PoF behind them. They mentioned something in the reveal stream about racing on mounts. I wonder if that will be an adventure, an activity like Sanctum Sprint, or perhaps a guild mission. Mostly if they do have new adventures I hope they are fun and something people want to do because they enjoy it and not just some exercise in frustration to gain a mastery point or as some part of a significant collection.
Along with a number of things I disliked about HoT adventures are another reason I’m most likely going to hold my purchase until PoF launches. Unless the beta weekends really impress me as limited as they will be I’ll wait to see player feedback and reviews before I decide if I’ll buy it.
