The forum log-in is the same as the ‘My Account’ log-in.

I’m sure most people don’t get an error using the ‘Support’ link, either. Lol.

The credentials are the same but it doesn’t automatically log you into My Account when you log into the forum. It is a separate login as Healix stated here.

I have tested it. You can log into the forum but still have to log in again if you go to the MY Account link. The same thing with the leaderboard. You have to log into each separately, they don’t carry over. Lol.

Pretty sure I’m logged in to post.

But, I, like others, have the ‘redirect to Support’ bug, as well. No biggie.

You have to log in to the My Account page not just the forum. Then if you follow the link Healix provided it provides a bunch of code and in that it says the last time you changed your password. As noted I think Anet forced a password change for accounts using passwords prior to password blacklisting a few years ago so it may not be an accurate measure of account age created before that.

I get annoyed enough by Charr wings blocking my view of things, the last thing I want is someone’s sparkle pony butt in my face when I am trying to use the bank. Or see the bad guy… or see anything for that matter.

That really is the worst reason not to have mounts. Crap will always be blocking your banker either way.

Personally I think it is a good reason as mounts add unnecessary screen clutter. See my post earlier in this thread. Not to mention the resources it would take to render all those players on mounts. Much like minis that can’t be shown on busy maps, I imagine players all over the place on mounts would cause an even bigger problem. Again, as I mentioned earlier.

No thank you. The game already can’t handle busy maps with everyone’s minis and hides them for that reason. Just imagine the extra strain everyone riding around on mounts might cause. Not to mention I would not care for all the extra screen clutter of mounts, but that’s my opinion.

Personally I think they should just get rid of the AP leaderboards like some others suggested. It isn’t a fair measure because people that have not been playing pretty much from day one can never catch up as also noted by others. It really only exists at this point as bragging material for the top 5 or so and little else for everyone else. If friends want to compare their AP that is easily done without the leaderboard.

If you didn’t recieve the auto response email when you submitted your ticket you may also want to check to make sure you are able to receive emails from Anet. You can read more on that in threads listed here.

Also, it would probably be a good idea to check up on the security of the email address associated with your account. If you feel it may have been comprised it might be a good idea to request a change to a more secure address. If you do request an email change it is best to do so using the alternate email address you trust is secure.

World Transfer Costs

Well here’s my problem…I don’t mind the charge…what I do mind tho is that the people you have met on other worlds and want to switch to that world to enhance your gameplay…but the server is full…yet you have countless accnts that are in active that have chosen said world as their home world and just taking up world pop space…screwing everyone else

Server population as far as full servers is now calculated based on WvW activity. So inactive accounts would not affect the server population.

Flagging for open world pvp with outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Yep, it was def a thing with BWE 2 I believe. So the tech for it to be possible is in the system.
They also did the same thing with number 3 when they devided players up into 3 teams in a Hunger games type match in an “outfit” and certain skills to survive. Somewhat like southsun survival(which I’m pretty sure is what inspired that, minus teams)

Said “PvP” event: http://youtu.be/-YzTlDbYUhY

I think most people would be fine with temporary weekend long events where certain maps have a PvP style game. There are enough non-starter maps out there for ANet to have it active every weekend if they rotated which map was used.

But I don’t think most people want all maps to have it 24/7.

I would not care for that at all. Oh, hey I feel like farming this map this weekend or doing events there or map completion or whatever. Oh wait, it’s tagged for PvP, guess I’ll have to wait until the weekend is over or next week if I only have time to play on weekends. No thanks. Maybe if it was a copy of the map and players could choose to enter the PvE or PvP version. In that case I wouldn’t mind. Oh and make it a gem store item required to access the PVP version. That way Anet could recoup some of the development costs spent on such a feature.

Two out of three game modes are set up for PvP already and there are also guild hall arenas. Let’s let PvE players have the PvE maps PvP free thanks.

Another thing that makes the game hard to get back into is the empty maps. My server population has fallen from full to medium since the last time I played. The most fun I ever had in this game was when the game first released. Every area was full of people running events. It was a blast. I wished they could combine players from all server, like in Aion, so that no map is ever empty.

PvE maps are merged with players from all servers in the same region (NA or EU). They made that change a long time ago.

Gold sellers: New tactics?

I don’t see why the gold seller don’t just stop with the spam. I mean we already have an in house gold seller. Not certain if this is actually against ANETS policy but you only need to buy gems and convert them into gold. It very expensive considering but its the only legal (err Illegal?) way to do it?

Because people buy gold from them. As long as people continue to do so they will continue the spam. From what I have seen Anet has been working to remove the gold people buy from gold sellers and hopefully that teaches the buyers a lesson. Unfortunately they can’t catch everyone.

Can we please get a working Mac Client [Merged]

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

^^^ Unfortunately it appears the current Mac beta for almost 4 years now client is not something Anet can fix. The company that provided the cider port was acquired by NVIDIA. So, sort of like this forum that also can’t be fixed because Anet no longer works with the company that made the forum, the Mac beta for almost 4 years is in the same boat. Transgaming, the company that made the cider port was taken over by NVIDIA.

The good news, at least on the surface, is that Anet is working on a native Mac client. Updates on the progress are few and far between but there is at least some hope that they will complete it.

Maybe Anet needs to be more careful in the future who they partner with given the company that made the broken forums they can’t work with and the company that made the broken Mac beta cider client they can no longer work with. Of course I don’t think Anet could have predicted the NVIDIA takeover. That said it was a poorly supported client from day one. The only quick fixes to the Mac beta client I ever saw over the years was when Mac beta customers could not access the gem store. Anet sorted that out within a few days. But to be fair that was still when it was with Transgaming.

While waiting for the native Mac client I’d suggest bootcamp Windows if you can. I finally gave in and it is like night and day as far as performance. I only use it to play GW2.

HoT certainly didn’t kill my interest in GW2. I still play but I don’t play the HoT maps. After multiple attempts to enjoy HoT itself, even after the rework, I just don’t. So I don’t play it. I have not even messed with the new LS stuff. I do enjoy other things that HoT brought with it like gliding in core maps, auto-loot, elite specializations, and Revenant. So at least I got something out of it.

I hope the next expansion moves away from the HoT style maps and more toward core style maps, but maybe that’s just me.

What does "server" mean?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Go to character selection screen, in your bottom left corner it will tell you what server you are on.

When the game came out we did not have Megaservers, so picking a server meant the only players you would see would be from your server.

Now the only meaning servers have is in relation to WvW, your home world, who you fight for. Although through linkings again servers have lost server identity, it’s just categorizing you to your home world and which side you will fight for in WvW.

Otherwise, it means nothing like the “guest” option.

So if im in one server, and i join a guild from another server (just a hypothetical situation) I can play with them no problems at all, just not in WvW?

Also, do all the servers from one region pertain to that whole region?

You do have to be in the same region NA or EU to play with others in your guild. As long as you are in the same region it only affects WvW.

HoT upgrade free server transfer

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Only players that upgrade from F2P to HoT get a free transfer. As you upgraded from a core account you bought at release you are not eligible for the free transfer. You have two options.

1. Delete all your characters that will allow you to transfer for free.
2. Buy gems to pay for a transfer.

One note, even if you choose one of the above options if the server is full you still won’t be able to transfer until space becomes available.

Finally, you can still play with your friend aside from WvW as long as you are in the same region, EU or NA. Mega servers allow players to join friends on different servers in every game mode but WvW as long as they are in the same region.

Can Support change my Account Name

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Here is a collection of posts from Anet about display names and why it is not likely to be changed unless it meets strict criteria.

Anet usually only offers display name changes in the event the display name compromises your privacy, (example using real name or email address), or if the name violates the GW2 naming policy. The links below go to posts from Anet staff regarding this issue.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Name-Questions-Please-read-merged/first#post2087181

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Name-Questions-Please-read-merged/page/4#post5498462

From the last link above that explains that display name changes can cause problems.

Long story short is that display names weren’t designed in a way that allows them to be changed without causing a potential (and significant) batch of problems on the account so we (support) only do them when we reeeeally need to.

Ya it’s true that it was mostly open world but it would be cool if there was a way for them to instance it because it’d be fun to get to see that stuff again. Even if it was a more simplified version of the events because I know it’d be hard to show it on the same scale as it was when it was rolled out.

I understand it’d be a lot of work to make it happen but I hope they do it eventually.

Unfortunately it appears that Anet is struggling to produce new content while they are also working on the next expansion. They can’t even deliver on everything they sold with HoT (legendary weapons). Heck they even said it takes 9 months to make armor sets. So I wouldn’t get hopes up for them to repackage LW1 as something that can be replayed.

From what I have seen it appears to me that Anet is suffering significant resource management problems. I’d offer my services as resource management is my specialty but I doubt they could match my salary and make it worth it to me to move.

GuildWars 1 Character Names in GuildWars 2?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

GW1 names were only reserved for a short period if time. So you will need to choose a different name.

Further reading from the GW2 blog post dated July 23, 2012:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reserve-your-guild-wars-character-name-for-guild-wars-2-by-july-31/

If you’re a Guild Wars player who wants to use your character names in Guild Wars 2, now’s the time to reserve your character name. It’s easy—all you have to do is log in to your Guild Wars account to reserve all your character names. But don’t delay—the deadline for name reservation is July 31.

We’re building our Guild Wars 2 name reservation list on July 31. We’re only reserving character names from active Guild Wars accounts, which is why you’ll need to log in at least once before we build the list in order to be considered an active Guild Wars player.

However, as we mentioned in a previous blog post, your Guild Wars character names will not be reserved indefinitely. You must create a Guild Wars 2 character with the same name as your Guild Wars character during the Headstart Access period or on launch day. Shortly after launch, we’ll free up all the unclaimed names for new Guild Wars 2 players to use.

So don’t delay! Log in to your original Guild Wars account and reserve your character names today!

Sorry but you are over 4 years too late.

Spam Chat Problems....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JustTrogdor.7892

Most gold sellers got links in their whispers or map chats? Can you implement a filter like on youtube for the comments under videos with links or certain phrases like “selling gold” “cheap price” etc. Also let people add links posted ingame to that filter. If lets say like 100 people added that link to the filter, the person that postet that link will get automatically checked and banned by the support. All future links posted by people on that “black list” (the links) will be banned or checked automatically. Also small variants like “l i d g s a w s.gold.com” with just spaces, will automatically be reported by the system as well. With some weeks passing by, major gold selling sites wont be able to sell their gold anymore and future sites will be shut down, cause if their link is once in the system, people sending it will get banned and the posting of that link isnt possible as well. It just some sort of “swearword filter”. Or better, why dont use that system and if you want to write a website name or things like “buy gold” etc. you just cant send that message.

They would learn to get around such a filter unfortunately. Instead of things like the filtered word “buy gold at scamsite.com” they would just change it to something like “b*u*y* g@ld at goldsellsite name” So it would be an endless process to keep filtering out those words and phrases.

"I'd really like this..." [Gifting Strangers]

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

A word of caution for people considering sending gifts. I have been fairly active in sending gifts when I could because I enjoy it and someone else helped me out for my one request. That said, I’m guessing here, but maybe 1/4 of the people I have sent gifts to updated their post to note they received what they asked for. The rest never even bothered to update their request post stating they have received some or all of what they asked for. On top of that I have seen many people post several requests and when they do they delete their previous request post to take advantage of generous people.

So if you decide to gift someone use caution because unfortunately there are people that are taking advantage of this thread. Also be very cautious of people that are asking for mats or gold as I’m fairly certain that some people are using alt accounts to make those types of requests. I think I can tell because their post style is almost identical to posts they have made from other alts.

Hopefully honest players can still benefit from this thread. Sadly I’m not going to gift anymore though because many requests are in my opinion shady. It’s too bad some people take advantage of such a nice thing and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so.

Suggestions like a client side chat filter or a friend only whisper option only tackle the surface of the problem as players would have to enable those options. By doing so, they would become less social with the rest of the community and that’s not what GW2 is about..

I have to disagree with this. It should be my choice on how social I want to be. If I don’t want whispers from people that are not my mutual friends it should be my choice. It isn’t like I’m going to suddenly be more social with players outside my friends list just because I don’t have that option. I just ignore the whispers and if they get annoying I end up blocking them anyway.

It’s like the good old days when people still used phone books. A person could choose to have their phone number unlisted. This in no way has an affect on those that don’t care if their number is public and who calls them. It is a benefit to those that don’t want people they don’t know calling them.

Allowing players to decide how they want to interact with the rest of the community is a bonus. Like I said in earlier posts the option should be turned off by default. That way everyone from the start is in your more social world. Those that want a bit more privacy can turn it on.

The topics discussed here are not just about gold sellers but also about more privacy options.

The key word once again is option. Not required for everyone to turn off whispers from people that are not friends but an option. Options are good. Very good.

The keyword is “unintended consequences”. There are other ramifications to offering the option to shutting down unsolicited chat and we can’t predict how that will play out. As I said, there have been all sorts of other things we’ve asked for — and received — and not all have been universally successful.

But what are those ramifications? Player A decides to opt out of whispers from everyone aside from those they are friends with. Why? Because they are not interested in talking to others off their friends list. How does that affect other players because Player A would choose to ignore unsolicited whispers anyway. I’m not sure what you are on about with things people asked for not being successful. Of course that happens. IMO more options are always successful. No one is forcing anyone to use it as it would be an option.

Spam Chat Problems....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

I dont think its worth it to turn whispers to friends only for a few gold spammers. More hassle than gain.

It’s called an option. On/Off. Win/Win for everyone that either does not mind whispers for random people and gold spammers and on for people that only want whispers from friends.

It’s probably not “win-win” as much as people think. Changes like this have repercussions beyond that of dealing with spam. It affects the ability of new players to meet veterans and of veterans to engage each other. It’s not necessarily “bad”, it’s just not “neutral” in how the community grows and evolves.

There are all sorts of examples of people asking (sometimes demanding) changes from ANet, only to find that many people are annoyed with the results afterward, sometimes even the same people.

I think it’s hard to predict the value of something like this.

Well if those veterans don’t want to be bothered by whispers from new players or other veterans it probably does not matter much if they can or can’t receive those whispers as they probably won’t answer anyway.

Again, I think it should be a player driven option. Want to receive whispers from anyone then select that option. If not then select that option. I don’t see how this would harm anyone as players that choose to only receive whispers from friends most likely would not respond to whispers from random people anyway. So yes the option is a win for people that don ‘t want whispers from people they are not mutual friends with and a win for those that don’t care who whispers them.

Having more chat control options benefits everyone from the people that don’t care who whispers them to the people that want to control who whispers them. So yes an on/off option in my opinion would be a benefit to all players so they could choose what they prefer.

Again as another example, LA and The Heart of the Mists are well known places for gold sell spam. Hey, maybe I don’t mind whispers from real players but in LA or The Heart of the Mists if the spam is out of hand I can turn off whispers from people that are not my friends. Then turn it back on as I go to other maps. Hey OPTIONS. How awesome would that be to let players decide who they want whispers from?

The key word once again is option. Not required for everyone to turn off whispers from people that are not friends but an option. Options are good. Very good.

I do like the idea of not receiving whispers from people who aren’t mutual friends. That is a worthy suggestion, in and of itself, regardless of the gold selling scum.

Meh. I find that when asking for help in a map with a very active map chat, several players will choose to whisper you with help/guidance because it stands out more instead of being the same color. There are definitely advantages to not needing to be a mutual friend to whisper someone

Again it could be an on/off option. That way players that don’t mind whispers from any and everyone including gold spammers have the that option. For those of us that don’t care for random whispers we can turn it on. It could be set to off by default and then players that don’t want whisper spam from non-friends can turn it on.

I would be strongly against this idea. In fact, it would have prevented me to have a lot of people in my friend list.

What if it was an option to turn it on or off? Would you be cool with that? For example when you are in LA or the PvP Heart of the Mists where it is well known gold sellers hit players with whispers the worst you could choose only whispers from mutual friends and turn it off when you leave those areas. Or leave it off all the time if you have no problem with random whispers. It seems like an on/off option is a win for everyone.

But I wanted to ask a question: How would you build a friend list without whispers? Or maybe I’m more wondering how would you discuss adding someone, mutually, without whispers? Open chat?

/say or /party or /squad or /guild, etc. “Hey player (name here) I enjoyed hanging out with you in game doing X. Want to be friends?” Then sends friend request. Player (name here) can then accept or decline. I don’t think I have ever been a mutual friend with someone that randomly whispered me. I’ve had a fair amount of players follow me and whisper me when I’m online that I never spent much time in game with with such things as ,“What are you up to today? Why don’t you respond? Hey, you there?”

At the very least I should be able to remove people from my follower list. I’d like some control over that. Also I have noticed when trying to gift things to my friends from the gem store people on my followers list that I am not mutual friends with show up and that clutters things up trying to find the person I meant to gift.

Anyway it would be an awesome QOL upgrade option. “Accept all whispers” or “Accept whispers from only mutual friends.” Let the players decide how they want to handle it.

Just Trogdor, I suppose you are right about the wording…. Though I am not advertising anything that these sites are doing… I just had a lot of questions. Maybe it is hard for them to “shut it down” and may they will “just make new ones”, I suppose I am so super annoyed by all of these whispers…and no way of making it stop. I should not have to play “offline” to not receive these annoying whispers.

Maybe Anet could develop a system similar to the way free accounts work… where if you are not friends with that person you simply can not whisper them? This way you would then only get whispers from people on your friends list.

By posting their name on this forum and the picture of the text you were sent, you are indeed advertising them to forum viewers even if you don’t mean to. “Hey here is a website that sells gold even though I hate it.” I guarantee if you don’t edit the name of the site out of every part of your post this thread will end up deleted and you might get a forum infraction. I’ve seen it happen many times.

I do agree on your last point though. I would like an option that would only allow people on my friends list to whisper me. Not people that followed me but only people I am mutual friends with. I also think there should be an option that allows players to accept or deny followers.

Advertising, even when not meaning to, a gold selling site will probably get you in a bit of trouble here. Best to edit that stuff out and alter the subject of your post.

Also there probably isn’t much Anet can do to shut sites like that down. Many of them most likely run overseas in countries that don’t give a darn about such things and that is just a legal nightmare to even approach it. Even if shut down they will just start another one.
