If it is written in OpenGL wouldn’t it be “fairly easy” make a Linux version? I think it ANet could make a lot of money if they chose to provide people with a Linux version. What with people unhappy (me being one of them) with what Microsoft is doing.

The current Mac version is a cider port made through Transgaming now owned by NVIDIA. So it is not written in OpenGL. However, Anet has been working on a native Mac client. I’m not sure what they are using to do it though.

That set does come back from time to time during sales. The last time I saw it mentioned on sale was about 3 months ago.

It’s extremely hard to alter the engine so backpacks are dyeable. As far as the engine is considered, backpacks are considered items (like weapons) and gliders are considered effects. The engine needs to be fundamentally altered from the ground up to allow for item dye channels. It’s not impossible, but not easy. To add to this, the Shining Blade glider was designed on its own and after it was modeled one of the artists saw that it could be turned into a backpack for the players to enjoy. I think lazy is an inappropriate term for this situation when someone went the extra mile. However, I do understand your frustration with not knowing it couldn’t be dyed. That should be more clear.

My guess is it will be a glider. Anet seems to be very invested in gliders as they are HoT owners specific. For sure it would tick off the core game only players but at the same time might influence some to upgrade to HoT to use it. Much like they rushed core map gliding out after HoT sales appeared to under perform. If that is the case there may even be an anniversary sale for HoT like when LS3 was released.

I certainly hope Anet will get away from this vertical, overrun with massive trash mobs map in the next expansion.

After I don’t know how many attempts to try to find a way to enjoy the HoT maps I just can’t get into it. I guess that style of map just isn’t for me. I really don’t enjoy HoT for the most part. So I just don’t go there anymore as my vote against that type of map design. I don’t want to add to their metrics no matter the rewards. I too hope future maps are more like the core maps and not multi level.

My guess is the 4th birthday will be a special glider. Of course that would tick off the core only players or maybe help encourage them to buy HoT so they can use it.

How long ago did you submit your support ticket? If it has been over 3 days you can post your ticket number in the sticky thread at the top of this forum for review. Also, during major updates and such sometimes support can run a little bit slower than 3 days due to a high amount of traffic. I submitted a ticket 2 days ago and am still waiting. Anyway, like I said if it have been over 3 days still post your ticket in the thread mentioned.

As many have stated, the addition of new ways to get Mastery Points is a good thing! It’s sort of like adding new dishes to a buffet: you can make a choice from an expending menu of options.

I am not maxed on MPs for either HoT or CT. Hey, I’ve been busy! As a daily player, I warmly welcome more ways for me to get those points.

I hope Anet decides to add some of those new dishes to CT. I’d like more options there too.

I played a fair bit of Guild Wars 2 about a year ago when I bought it and I levelled my Norn Ranger to 64 before leaving for a long time. I just bought Heart of Thorns on sale so I’m back to finish all my stuff off but I had some questions.

With Heart of Thorns, you get one free Lvl 80 character, and obviously it would be a waste to use it on my Norn (She’s already up to 71 from today alone). I always wanted to have a Charr Guardian or Revenant, Sylvari Elementalist and a Human or Asuran Thief. But now I’m not sure which of these I should use the 80 boost on? I’m really not sure which would be the most useful/best for me.

What is the process with the boost? The character obviously goes to Lvl 80 instantly but you don’t acquire any of the gear you otherwise would by doing the process yourself? And you don’t get the map completion for your starter area either?

I can’t really tell you which profession to boost. That is too much of a personal choice. However you can test any profession at L80 using the boost and if you don’t like it you just don’t accept the boost when you are done. Here is Anet’s tutorial on using the L80 boost you may find very helpful.

That amulet is ascended. You can’t put jewels in ascended and as of the Tuesday patch the only thing you can put in ascended amulets is enrichments.

Not if you remove the infusion first. You can do so by buying an infusion extractor device for 24 silver.

Crafting an attuned ring will destroy all upgrades (including Infusions) in the original ring. The Infusions can be safely removed prior to Attunement by using an Infusion Extraction Device; and these Infusions can then be reapplied.

I have I think 14 amulets that I received WvW infusions back for most of my rings and accessories already have WvW infusions in them. Thats 70 laurels which is not insignificant.

Basically if you attune and infuse all your rings then you can stick those extra infusions into them. Yea, it means playing some Fractals. Some won’t do it.

To be fair you can attune a ring if you have mastery Fractal Attunement tier 2 unlocked without having to actually do fractals. It requires Agony Channeler to purchase the Agonized Essence to do it. But if you want to infuse as well for the third slot you will have to do fractals.

I know it isn’t the best answer but at least you have a chance for one extra slot without doing fractals if you can spare the mastery points. Also make sure you take any infusions out before doing so.

You have PARTIAL access to core. You are limited in trading options, can’t receive cash, etc. But, all of the “content” that is core is available in free-to-play.

If the OP is posting here they are not F2P. F2P accounts do not have access to the forums. Thus they are at least a core game owner and have full access to the TP as well as sending or receiving gold and what not from other players.

As the OP asked if they buy HoT they will remain a core game owner without the restrictions you mention. They will have full access to the core game and HoT. Should they chose to buy HoT for a second account they will still have full access to the core game as well as the expansion. As I already said the exception to this, a new account will not have full access to LS2 (being able to earn the achievments and such) unless they buy it for gems.

If you are posting here you already have full access to the core game. Buying HoT will give you access to the expansion and you will still have access to the core game. If you are talking about buying HoT for a second account doing so will also give access to the core game as well as the expansion. The only exception is LS2. If you didn’t log in during that season or have a new account you will have to buy it from the gem store.

People have brought up the same argument for other languages currently not supported by Anet. The consensus is that the cost verses the payoff is probably not worth it. It costs a lot of money to hire voice actors to translate into a new language and more cost for others to translate the text. Not that it is an impossible idea, but in order for Anet to do so I imagine they would have to see enough interest and potential increase in income to engage in such a project.

The fact that they have not done a Portuguese translation after almost 4 years tells me that there are maybe not enough Portuguese speaking players to make it worth the cost and effort.

I want this for sPvP too. Seriously, when my team is down 200+ points it’s over and yet tryhards still insist on yelling at me for not trying to cap points anymore. In over 1k games (not that much by some standards, but still) I have never seen any team overcome more than a 150pt deficit. At that point I’m rooting for the other team if only to save time…

I don’t PvP much but there have certainly been cases where it was a lost cause and I’m running around thinking, “Just let it end already.” However, I think in the case of PvP it would have to require a vote much like the kick system in dungeons and fractals. In some cases even though it may seem all is lost some players may want to continue on either for practice or for kills or what ever.

Maybe something like, “Surrender has been suggested by a team member. Do you want to surrender to the opposing team? yes/no.” I would also suggest in that case a team member can only suggest surrender once per match to keep people from troll spamming it.

There was a case during one of the esport events where a team or team member rage quit early in a match due to a certain loss. I don’t recall all the details. If they had the opportunity to surrender instead maybe it would have presented better.

Perhaps you could switch to a desktop authenticator app if the computer you will be using overseas allows for it and you feel safe enough to do so. In other words if it is a shared computer that might not be a good idea. Other than that yes, you would need to remove SMS from your account and rely on email authentication until you get back.

The /surrender that works in raids also work in all PvE. I would enjoy doing this when I am downed in PvE with no hope of surviving and watching my finisher expedite my death.

Please allow this to be used in all PvE as well. As I understand the patch notes it currently only works in raids. There have been many times I have been downed with no hope of pulling through and just sit drinking my beer or whatever waiting for the mobs to finish me off. It would be really cool to be able to shorten my ultimate demise and have my finisher complete the task. It might even be something the RP comunity would enjoy.

I just submitted a ticket asking Anet to allow me to at least exchange 2 of my returned infusions that cost 5 laurels for 1 enrichment since they cost 10. So that way I’d at least get something out of them to put in the vacant amulet slot without having to spend even more laurels. I thought it was worth a shot as they stated they will not give a laurel refund out of concerns for the economy. I’ll post back when I get an answer.

Yeah, but to get a ring attuned, it only costs money, a +1 agony infusion (which you can buy for a dime on the TP), and 1/10 of a spirit shard. (Just don’t forget to remove the infusions before you make one.)

If I read the wiki correctly that method also requires having unlocked fractal mastery tier 2 to acquire the Agonized Essence. I’m currently in mastery point limbo and since I don’t often do fractals I have not spent any points in the fractal track. I know that’s my personal problem but it still means I’ll have to re-earn the privilege of using my infusions. I still think the best way for Anet to solve this issue is to allow players to return the removed infusions to the vendor for a laurel refund. That way players that want to go about attuning their rings can and those that don’t can get their laurels back. People that choose the laurel refund could use the laurels toward the enrichment that now sits vacant in the amulet slot or keep them for whatever. It seems like a fair solution to me at least.

I don’t think I would go so far as to say that Anet is intentionally trying to make people mad. I think it was just a poorly thought out plan. At least I got to use my infusions for some time before they became an item that will just sit in my mailbox. I feel worse for the players that recently spent laurels on those infusions to find out maybe just a day or so later that they have wasted their laurels.

I noticed this thread has a lot of views in short time with not many posts compared to views. I’d like to invite you lurkers to not be shy and post your opinion on the matter as well.

If enough people express their frustrations at it, then there’s a chance things will be modified so you can get your laurels back. Save ‘em for a little while just in case. Ya’ never know.

Yes you can swap them between characters. When the infinite tools first came out they were soul bound. People complained so Anet raised the price a bit and made them account bound.

New player here, and I cant quite figure out the runes. I figured as much I’d have to acquire some corresponding runes to the matching armor in order to get the upgrades, but I guess I figured wrong. I bought three (3) Major Runes of Lyssa for the three (3) slots in the gloves, and a Minor Rune of Mercy for the legs.

But when I try to add those runes to said items, they become red. When I try to add the runes to the opposite items, it warns me that the previous upgrade will be destroyed.

So, uhhhh… Help plz?

Each armor piece has one slot for runes (upgrades). Major runes offer 4 bonuses if one of the same rune is applied to 4 different pieces of armor. If you want all 4 bonuses from the Major Rune of Lyssa you have to apply one to 4 different armor pieces. For example placing one in chest, one in gloves, one in leggings and one in boots. The same will apply when you progress to using Superior runes later on. You will need to have one the same rune in all 6 pieces of armor to get the full 6 bonuses.

Major runes require a minimum armor level of 39 to apply and Superior runes require a minimum armor level of 60.

When you apply a rune to an armor piece with an existing rune it will be overwritten or in other words destroyed hence the warning you received.

It sounds like your idea of fun is comparing your performance to others in PvE. If that is the case this probably isn’t the game for you. Aside from the achievement point leaderboards (more a measurement of who started playing before others and spends the most time) there is not likely to ever be a public display of performance when it comes to PvE.

Me I could not care less who does what damage, who heals more and so forth. If I play a dungeon, fractal, world boss and have fun I don’t really care if I did 10X more damage than some other player. It isn’t really important.

If you are really interested in a GW2 measuring contest go play ranked PvP and not the “let win” PvP daily you mentioned in the OP. Ranked PvP is overflowing with players that compare their performance to others and are eager to let people know when they are being carried. There you can see your score as measured among your peers.

If you are already using the SMS via your phone there isn’t really a need to install an app unless you don’t want to use the SMS version for some reason. I’m pretty sure you can not use them both at the same time.

Other than that the best thing you can do is make sure the email address associated with your account is also secure, make sure you use a strong unique password for your account, be very cautious of any emails or in game message you may receive asking for account information (phishing) as Anet will never send a message out of no where asking you to provide account information, and never allow anyone else (even friends or family) to access your account. Concerning the later, if you live in a home with others that may be tempted to jump on your account make sure you always log out when leaving your computer unattended. I have seen many posts around here about the “evil little brother” that deleted someone’s characters and stuff.

Maybe some others here have more tips on maximizing account security but what I posted is the advice I know of.

What I did was copy paste it in the guild message on my personal guild. When I rep my personal guild, the message is put in chat and the waypoints are clickable to go to them directly.

Ahh that’s an old trick. People have been doing that for some time. It isn’t often brought up here though. Mostly on reddit where some of these farming routes in various forums were posted. It is definitely a helpful tool.

Dredgehaunt Cliffs is a really good map for seasoned wood logs.
